the bootloader void - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've made some sort of mistake. I now have, what seems to be a bricked phone.
Phone was working fine but need to send it in. Want to unroot. FolIowed procedures via fastboot and had good success less the unlocked message.
I got careless but can't remember exactly what I did to get me to the state I'm in.
I can boot to bootloader (but nothing else) but all commands fail. If I perform 'fastboot devices', I get - ZY2235NZNF.
Beyond that, I get failures. first command - "fastboot oem lock begin"
(bootloader) Not supported command in current status!
FAILED (remote failure)
I was indeed able to boot to the phone and was only having the issue of the unlocked message. Now... I have the ~shame~
I have no Android so I cant get USB debugging... SO frustrated.
Thank you.
My goal here is to get my phone unrooted and back to stock rom.
Or, is it dead?
Thank you for reading my post and thank you in advance for any direction you can offer.

flash twrp then try flashing any stock based ROM . once it's starts working...flash firmware using RSD lite. BTW you can't take the bootloader back to original state, you can relock it, in fastboot it'll show "relocked"
after flashing the ROM just use command
fastboot oem lock

None of this works because the bootloader is locked.
Can't flash anything.
I tried everything. i got it to flash stock recovery. not that this did me any good. nothing else flashes. locked bootloader. can't unlock. won't flash anything until it is unlocked.
How do I unlock bootloader? I've tried fastboot method with key, no go. I've tried the motogogo (whatever) tool and no no.

Thank you. But, 'should be' doesn't help me.
What now? What other recommendations?

If our phone is bootloader unlocked, at the fastboot screen it will mention software status as Modified. looking at your fastboot screen, for me it looks more serious and I'm guessing it should be fine to just send the phone to the service center. perhaps a good idea to empty the battery as well so that the technician thinks it is completely dead

OK. I've never seen that error before. And a quick google search doesn't come up with anything either.
You could try restarting the bootloader with
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
and trying again.
The only thing I can think of is you could be trying to flash the wrong bootloader (which i doubt) Just to confirm you are trying to flash bootloader-grouper-3.34.img
Also, to just unroot you don't need to reflash the bootloader. Just boot.img and system.img

So i rebooted the bootloader, and it still gives me the same thing. Whats the command to boot.img and system .img?

Both the boot.img and the system.img are in the image-nakasi-jro03d.zip you must extract them first.
Then run: fastboot devices (to make sure you're connected) if it returns the serial number then proceed.
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
This should maintain your data and unroot your nexus.
However, I am a bit concerned about the invalid state error. I can't find anything about it at all. I'm worried your nand might be corrupted and proceeding with this might lead to an unrecoverable state. Maybe someone else can weigh in on this... I don't want to scare you but I don't want to be responsible if something goes wrong.
hmm... I hope more people would weigh in on this? Cuz im exchanging the nexus 7 due to flickering screens, and im new to the rooting/unrooting stuff so i dont want to brick this device cuz im a n00b.
hmm... I hope someone else weigh in on this to help, cuz I'm going to exchange this nexus 7 for another 1 because of flickering issues...
Restart, carefully check
My nexus had the ghosting issue and I had to unroot my device to ship back today. Heres how I did it.
1. Download stock ROM from Google.
2. Unzip stock ROM from Google. The unzipped file will have 4 files in it. (Boot loader grouper image, flash all.sh, flash base.sh and the image.zip)
3. Unlock your device by clicking the unlock button on nexus root toolkit
4. When your device wakes turns on set it back up. No need to log into Google.
5. turn a dB back on in development
6. Click flash stock + unroot
7. click other/browse
8. For choice click I did this already.
9. Click OK
10. browse to your unzipped file location with the 4 files in it.
11. click OK
12. Done

2. I tried to unlock my phone using Motorolar website but It's say that my phone is not qualify. What can I do ?

Are you booting directly back into recovery after flashing? If you don't, stock recovery will override it. After flashing, immediately power off the phone and boot straight into recovery.

Try it without the "m" (fastboot). "mfastboot" command only works if it's in the directory. If that doesn't do it, do a search for "mfastboot" (Motorola version of "fastboot"), put it in the same folder as "fastboot", and try again.
It took me almost 3 weeks of research and experimentation to find something that worked. Don't know how some people got it done so easily.

Hello Everyone,
If anyone could help me, it would be highly appreciated.

Tried to used RSD LITE, it dos not recognize my mobile, Device status are all " N/A"
Tried to use CMD via Fastboot, some of the commnads work, some of them fails.

They are reported to help in similar case with Nexus phone and they are allowed even when the bootloader is locked. Flashing the original 5.1.1 kernel via fastboot should work too even with locked bootloader. This post describing how to downgrade to Lollipop should help since your troubles started after attempting to upgrade to Marshmallow: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/general/reminder-how-to-downgrade-6-0-to-5-1-1-t3267253. If error messages appear, maybe it's because you're using an older version of fastboot in Windows?

Here's a zip file containing a working version of fastboot along with the setup file for the Motorola driver: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-OWWP0oC4yLVVRYSGRVcEFOd0U/view?usp=sharing
Got mine working!
I had the same problem, I was stock in the same bootloader screen.
The problem happened after flashing a firmware thru fastboot incorrectly (I was missing the las part of the system partition image #8). After you do this you cannot unlock the bootloader unless you have activated the OEM unlock option in Developer settings. If you didn't there is no way to unlock it.
I got my xt1563 dualsim back on by reflashing a compatible firmware. You can find the firmware here.
Mind the model and origin of your phone to select the correct firmware. If you select a different one fastboot will fail to flash it.
I ordered my moto x play on motorola.com I live in Mexico, because of that they sent a phone with a LATAM (latinamerican) firmware. I found this firmware, which then I flashed
Here is a guide on how to flash firmwares with fastboot.
Hope it Helps

it's some kind of bug i think, it says it's unlocked, but it isn't, try unlocking again. it's only unlocked if you get a warning everytime you boot up the phone

it's not unlocked if it says command not allowed.
try unlocking again, it should work after that
when you flash a stock rom, the bootloader gets locked again, but for some reason it still says unlocked in fastboot mode. it's probably to prevent you from restoring warranty after unlocking your device
Thank you!
You are right, the warning-message isn't there anymore.
I will try to unlock it again tomorrow, I hope that it work without problems.

Bootloader loop - unable to unlock bootloader

Dear All,
I have a Problem with my Moto X play XT 1562. I have brought it a year back.
For some strange reason, My phone stopped working all of a sudden.
when I connect it to a PC via USB I'll get a boot-loader menu which says "StartUp failed Please connect the phone to a software repair assistant on the PC". Though I have figured out the problem I am unable to do anything about it.The problem is simple yet complex at the same time,
Problem: Though I have rooted many android phones previously, I never rooted this one. So My boot-loader is locked. I have got the Unique unlock key from Motorola site But when I get to this commad
HTML:
fastboot oem unkock [MY_UNLOCK_KEY]
I get an error message saying "Check 'Allow unlock OEM' in developer options". But my phone is not booting so far so that I can check that.
The basic problem is, My phone's OS is corrupted and I am unable to boot a new OS to it, As the boot loader is locked, I am unable to unlock the boot loader because I have not checked on 'Allow OEM unlock'. I am unable to check 'Allow OEM Unlock' because I The os is corrupted. - (This looks like a riddle )
1.Is there any way I can either bypass this?
2.Is there any way I can check 'Allow unlock OEM' using fastboot or any other tool?
I have tried the following already,
1.tried to clear user data and cache with fastboot - Still remains the same
2.tried to flash a recovery image even though the boot-loader is locked - No Use.
3.contacted service centre just to realise that I have to change the PCB which will cost me a new phone!
Can anyone of you please help me out with this.
Thanks a Ton in Advance.

You can still flash the firmware that is meant for your model/carrier without unlocking bootloader. run getvar all command in fastboot to determine what firmware exatly do you need if unsure.

Connect your phone in fastboot mode and type this command:
Code:
fastboot getvar all
in output look for this:
Code:
(bootloader) ro.build.fingerprint:
It's the firmware version that you currently have on your phone. Download exactly the same one and you'll be able to flash it with bootloader locked.

You've got instructions in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...de-how-to-flash-factory-image-return-t3261486
Mind that you'll likely have more system.img_sparsechunk files, so make sure you flash all of them (just change commands accordingly).
Guys I had no luck in doing that.
When ever I try to flash the contents of the stock os, I get a error message which says Pre Flash validation failed.
Can any one help me please

Your emmc ship is corrupt. That means your whole storage is broken and not fixable.
But i am able to flash some of the contents of the stock ROM. I get this "Pre flash validation failed" error only when I try to flash some of the files like (system.img_sparsechunk.0-9,recovery.img and gpt.bin). I even tried to reset the emmc_chip, I says that the command was succesfully executed.
Is there any other option left??
I am fighting this battle since a week now.

In my case I had. 52 version of the ROM. I had a locked bootloader boot loop. But I was able to fix it using rsdLite. Are you using the latest version of the firmware and connecting the ports at the back of the pc? Also install proper drivers
You need to use RETASIA DS, the most recent version

Same problem over here... Did you solve it?
Downloading right now the latest rom image for Moto X Play from this site.... //firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto%20X%20Play/Stock/XT1563/
Hey install Fastboot files and download twrp image for Lux and place it in the Fastboot folder.
Then run :- Fastboot reboot recovery.img
It will boot to twrp.
Any update for this? I'm in a similar situation now :-/
Tried RSD, it doesn't see my device (fastboot and adb works fine)
