Amazon will release new Fire HD 8 Tablets models, next week? - Fire HD 8 and HD 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've seen some leaked information that Amazon is preparing, and that they will release new Fire Tablets and also a New FireTV-Stick, next week!
I have also noticed that several weeks ago, some colors of the FireHD8 sometimes are unavailable, in very short supply or are also offered Used-Like-New/Used-Very-Good, what could be a sign that Amazon is preparing to launch some new models with some enhanced features.
Does anyone know if this information is true and what we can expect in these new Fire HD 8 tablet (2015) models?

The new Fire HD 8 is here! What's new?
All-new Fire HD 8, now with up to 12 hours of battery life, 2X the storage, and 50% more RAM for faster performance - made for all day entertainment.
Last year's model had 8 hours of battery life, now 12 hours; 8 GB and 16 GB choices vs now 16 & 32 GB; 1 GB RAM now 1.5 GB same processor speed; microSD card storage old model 128Gb now 200GB; price is lower then old model 16Gb $90 32GB $120 same colors: black, magenta, blue, and tangerine. The big deal for this tablet is the addition of Alexa, but the same goes for the old model but you will need to update your software to get it.

I would like to add, that after checking the product description at Amazon.com, I have noticed that this newer model is also much thicker than the previous 2015 models, because this newer model now has 0.4 inches thick.
All-new Fire HD 8 (2016):
Product Dimensions: 8.4 x 5 x 0.4 inches
Shipping Weight: 1 pounds
Old Fire HD 8 (2015):
Product Dimensions: 8.4 x 5 x 0.3 inches
Shipping Weight: 1.4 pounds
This could perhaps be because this new model now comes with a higher capacity battery, which is larger and heavier.
I do not know if this information is correct, but if it is true, the new FireHD8 (2016) Model will be thicker (0.4" instead of 0.3" of the Old 2015 model), but it will be also heavier !
The Bad news is that Amazon just to keep lower the product cost and the final sale price, decided to stuck with almost the same processor instead of raise it speed a little bit, so that this NEW fire tablet could work with less lagging and more efficiently...
The good news is that Amazon finally decided to add 50% more RAM and also doubled (2X) the storage Memory !
The Best thing is that now the price is much lower, which makes these new Fire Tablets more affordable and appealing than other tablets brands !!
I already have an HD8 Fire (2015), but unfortunately due to a weaker CPU, the poorest Camera and Slower WiFi, compared with the last year model... I do not think I'll change my FireHD8 (2015) by this new 2016, because aside from memory and battery, I really can not find such big differences or improvements...

I totally agree on your comments about the processor, but what I meant was that Amazon must've taken advantage of this new hardware upgrade, to upgrade also the processor with a higher-speed, to help a little with the performance and operation of the NEW FireHD8 Tablet...
I already know that for watching or streaming videos, is not necessary to have a very fast processor, because all the newest tablets now bring hardware decoders and others separate components to help and accelerate these functions...
I am very happy with the new lower price, with the bigger Battery (12 hours), and with the addition of more RAM and Storage Memory, but I am very disappointed and don't understand why Amazon decided to lower the Front/Rear Cameras to 2MP/VGA, that was 5MP/720P on the previous 2016 model.
Another thing I do not understand is, why if most cheap Chinese tablets have GPS, none of the new Amazon Fire Tablets comes with GPS ?
Maybe this GPS function is not so necessary to some users, but it would be a very important addition !
However I think, as Elias already has mentioned on his excellent review in*www.aftvnews.com, that Amazon seems to now focus on selling best low-end tablets, at the lowest possible price:
"Amazon’s tablet strategy of Less is More"
"Amazon just announced their new Fire HD 8 tablet and in doing so, have dove deeper into their tablet strategy of: less is more. Amazon’s Fire Phone failure marks a turning point where the company stopped trying to go after the upper-end flagship hardware market, and started dominating the lower-end of the hardware spectrum. Last year’sline of new tablets reduced hardware specs across the board and cut prices by more than half. In doing so, they became Amazon’s best selling tablets to date, and include Amazon’s single best-selling device ever, the $49.99 Fire 7″ tablet, which incidentaly took the title of best-selling device from Amazon’s other budget device, the Fire TV Stick. This year’s new Fire HD 8 continues the trend of less is more."

I think we can say with certainty that the camera is a cost issue. Last years model was a lot more money. GPS though in addition to cost may be that because it doesn't have a cellular version, so having GPS is useless on the go. You you could tether with a phone, but that device always has GPS anyway, so it becomes pointless to have it on the Fire.

Very unusual, except the first gen (2011)

Keep in mind there is going to be an update soon after release to enable Alexa, which may update much more.

I have the new device here and looking forward to install google services/play store.
It's my first device with Fire Os so I am wondering if the tutorials for the 2015 model will apply for the new generation?

Got mine yesterday and was able to install the Play store using the method. I'm not yet able to posts links on here, but there's a good tutorial on YouTube called "Amazon Fire Tablet - Google Play Store without root (Fast & Easy)".
I hadn't thought I would want to install the Play Store, but the Amazon "Appstore" is missing one of the two apps I need to be able to run for work. (It used to be on Amazon, but is no longer supported.)
General impressions of the tablet: It's light enough, feels solid (but a little cheap), and has a display that is completely adequate for the price. I'm a teacher and I'm using it at school with my students and it's great for that. Good screen size.

I got the new Fire HD 8 6th Gen and in the developer options it has the OEM Unlocking option to unlock the bootloader.
Edit: I was able to turn it on and it stayed on, but after the update and going through setting up the tablet up, now its disabled and I cant turn it back on.

Interestingly, the Mediatek chip supports FM radio, does anybody know if Amazon uses it? There's nothing in the specs...
Another thing I noticed on my German language version Fire HD8 is that I kept searching for the Blutooth sttings, which are hidden under "WLAN". Is this also true for the English language versions?

New kindle fire HDX

So Amazon announced the new Kindle HDX.
http://www.engadget.com/2013/09/25/amazon-debuts-kindle-fire-hdx-7-and-8-9-inch-tablets-we-go-han/
Also available for pre-order already.
http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Fire-HDX-Display-Wi-Fi/dp/B00BHJRYYS
Comes with a new JB based OS. Some articles suggesting its likely we'll get an update to the new OS. Especially likely given that they are retooling the 2012 HD and continuing to sell it.
They looks like beasts of a machine though. s800 quad, ardrino 330 gpu. Wouldn't mind the upgrade....
I hope we find out more details as to how exploitable it will be considering I don't like their stock os, and we would have to assume someone like hashcode would be willing to make a ROM for it if it was even exploitable, I don't know anything about snapdragon processors so I don't know if they have any similar security implementations like the m-shield. On another note, it has no minihdmi plug, I find that annoying because as the article says you need something like a smart TV or a ps3/ps4 to use the method it uses to play things on your TV, which not all people have... Sorry if this sounds pessimistic, I would totally buy it though if it gets exploited to a point we can flash custom roms.

is android 4.2.2. fire os 3.0 is based in android 4.2.2 and the old kindle is receiving the update
Eh... The fact that they only went from 1 to 2GB of RAM from HD8.9 to HDX8.9 is kind of silly.
This is 2013 and RAM is easy to come by and more useful than ever. 2GB of ram doesn't even fit the minimum requirements of some applications these days. Not to mention that when you're using a quad core processor more than 2GB of ram will come in very handy....
Maybe if they cut the price in half it'd be worth buying... They should have thought this through a little more....
I agree ram is cheap but let's not throw ram and speed at what a programmer can do with less. my wife's infuse runs jelly bean on a single core and 512 megs and it runs most apps just fine or at least as well as my moto m
Sent from my XT907 using xda app-developers app
Personally I'm glad it at least doubled the ram, my kindle running cm 10.1 at idle with nothing running is usually using about 62% of my ram, and when i launch a web browser it really lags and my ram usage is usually anywhere around 85-90%. I find it funny now days 2gb of ram isn't considered much, back when I was younger it was considered a lot to have half a GB, heck my current PC only has 2gb of ram.

Great specs and price for the Wi-Fi 16/32GB ones. I might get HDX over the Nexus 7 2013. No built-in GPS is the biggest turn-off for me, though.

i talked to amazon support, they said me that they are updating the kindle fire hd to the fire os. future kinology in android 4.2.2 ?
Fire OS 3.0 is not coming to 2012 devices(look at usuable space on devices)
amazon support isnt an exactly reliable source especially when amazon pushes mystery updates and support cant tell you what it is
2013 7" kfhd does not have a camera, mic, hdmi, and wifi is single antenna(not MIMO)
as impressive the hdx's specs are nice but the bootloaders gonna be locked(unlocking will most likely break some feature or most likely brick it)
if you noticed all the 2013 16 gigs only have 10.9 gigs of usuable space. they upped the bloat from 2012 models have 12.6 gigs
amazon included a charger but jacked the price up for the device
second screen is crap even if you had a streaming device(IE roku) you would rather just use the devices remote or the Google play app of said device which you know wont be in amazon's app system and doesn't make up for lack of video output.
just beware Qualcomm and Amazon just doesn't sound good for users of this forum
Keep in mind that the kindle fire 1 and two are two totally different OS's but the same look

Oh. Bummer
Please know that the new devices (including the 2013 HD 7"!) will all need new exploits before they can be effectively unlocked for advanced development such as kernels and AOSP.
Just setting the expectation in advance.
While the specs are certainly very good, they will come at a price (exploit needed before custom ROM development).

Highly likely this device one day will be able to, but at this point there is no promises. Probably for play store we will just need root which most devices get within a few months. As for exploits for unlocked boot loaders for custom Roms it probably will happen someday but keep in mind we may have been still waiting on the kfhd if it wasn't for hashcode.

It is very likely that Amazon has learned from their mistakes, and the next generation of KFs won't be as "easy" to crack. The Original KF forums are still just as active as they were before the 2nd gen devices came out, so I don't think there will be any shortage of development for either any time soon.

Yeah, but probably Amazon might be open development now. Most OEMs are now having Unlockable BLs. Hopefully, this is the same case for amazon. But that might not be a good strategy if they want to make money through the HDX. But let's accept it, things like the Amazon Appstore suck.

I have my doubts that they are open to development mainly because of the article posted in the HD 7” general forums, it said amazon was roughly breaking even on their kindle sales with appstore purchases and such. I hate to be pessimistic, but one can hope, personally I am hoping, think I'm going to see what I can find out about that processor.
Edit: hmmm well I looked it up online here, I don't see any mentions of security implementations, and as usual amazon seems to have slightly underclocked the processor, probably to give more battery lifetime or something. I find it interesting how this processor has the WiFi and Bluetooth and even the lte stuff all in one chip, and there is more than one model of the chip, they make models without lte, some with CDMA, and some with no support, so I'm guessing we might be seeing slightly different models across the devices for the lte versions. If this stuff is common, please excuse my ignorance, I'm more familiar with a PC processor than a phone processor. Interesting that this processor says it handles USB 3.0... Anyone find an article with some kinda security function that this processor might have? I couldn't find any on a basic Google search.

LOL.... XD
Nope, I am not flashing anything, but why shoudn't the devs try to port Fire OS 3.0?? I hope they can do it...... It is not much difference in the hardware too.

Probably, but it's a too difficult, and really the KF doesn't have the hardware you need for Fire OS. Its like trying to say a 1998 PC(No Upgrades) will be able to run Windows 8. Devs could port of but its too much work and not really worth it.

I've seen decent hints that it's world wide, but couldn't get it confirmed so I didn't mention it in the article.
Any infos about the hardware specification?

Not in UK or EU stores yet.
I wish they would have held off a bit longer and based the OS on Android M for the external storage improvements. Maybe an update or a future model? All in all, looks like a nice upgrade. 4k video, faster cpu and Alexa voice control. Honestly though, if they release an upgrade for the original FireTV that has Alexa then that's all I really care about.
Well now I am glad I don't feel any pressure on my wallet to upgrade!
Nothing that grabs me in the new list as "must buy".
I ordered the gamer model, should be a decent upgrade from the stick. Plus the stick with tvaddons might pay half of I sell it right

The real specs... (no GPU clock speed, dammit)
Processor: MediaTek Quad-core up to 2 Ghz Dual-core @ 2.0 GHz + Dual-core @ 1.6 GHz
GPU: Power VR GX6250
Could this run Dolphin emulator,or Yabause (OpenGL ES 3.x plugin),or not crash with Reicast?
What will the results be in Mupen64Plus AE's latest alpha build and GLideN64,I wonder.
Damn... disappointing upgrade specs for sure. I understand budget constraints, but i really was craving more umph. The 6250 is already an older chip, matching the Adreno 330 from 2013.
Before you jump on me, i know it is an upgrade from the OG FTV, but that doesn't mean they couldn't do better than that.
REally considering upgrading to an Nvidia box in the future now.. bummer...
Did anyone find a side by side comparison of first and second generation tvs? I can check the status myself, but thought it might have been done before.

No Thank you, I decide go for Nivdia Shield Pro (Android TV), They are most powerful, available TWRP recovery, and unlocked boot-loader and already have custom ROM available. Only difference is Price cheaper in Amazon Fire TV compare to Nivdia Shield Pro but HEY the Nivdia Shield Pro is a worth to have it!
http://shield.nvidia.com/android-tv/shield-androidtv-vs-appletv-vs-roku-vs-firetv
I am getting tired of Amazon locked down boot-loader, and recovery. I still have my original Fire TV with unlocked boot-loader, and rooted, and It still lackluster development except @rbox pre-rooted ROM.

awesome! So 4k, New cpu, New gpu, sd card and better Wi-Fi.
Still not worth the upgrade...

USB:
FTV 2: USB 2.0 Type A (Accessories only)
FTV Stick: Micro USB 2.0 (Power only)
FTV (1st gen): USB 2.0 Type A (Accessories and storage)
So ... no connecting external HDs on the new one then since it doesn't mention storage?
So what is the chance of the new fire tv accepting exfat sdcards or usb sticks? The 4gb limit of fat32 is bollocks.
And what about the original firetv by software update with the fireOs5?
It can play TV episodes and movies in 4K Ultra HD on Amazon Video.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00U3FPN4U?gwSec=1&ref_=ods_gw_d_LG9_JL_SMP_AFTV4K
But can it play titles in 4K Ultra HD with HDR on Amazon Video?
http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=11652987011
It should have HDMI 2.0a for playing HDR titles.

Could been better at this price
Nice specs but could been better at this price. Spidotech Sleek W1 tablet offers the same features and the price is far less than the Fire tablet. It even comes with an HDMI support and external 3G dongle support.
found this
NOT a review
just a manufacture's feature demo

still looking for more detail on the specs
and maybe a review
ok found their website here

it's not cheaper here in USA
35.99 British Pound equals
54.62 US Dollar
then add shipping
a slower cpu
less storage (only32 gigs sd card support)
i think this is not a good deal
i could find more faults but for USA people Fire 7 is better
Peace

sorry, this is really stupid... I've never heard of spidotech, everyone has heard of Amazon. 50 bucks is a great price for a device like this
I would be very interested in this tablet if it had GPS. It would have a permanent place in my truck. But without GPS it's worthless to me.

I'm sure you could always buy a GPS attachment rather it be via Bluetooth or another method and it'd still probably come out to be a very cheap tablet with GPS versus other devices available with both.

From all the descriptions I can find online about the MT8127, it does contain a GPS module (see image below). However, the picture also lists the 4-in-1 wireless MT6627 chip. What is the Fire tablet using for its wireless chip?
media.bestofmicro.com/O/Y/449314/original/MT8127.jpg
A potential concern is that Amazon lists MT8127D as the SoC of the new Fire, and I don't know if the "D" has any special architectural significance.
Does somebody already have nice teardown pictures, is it viable to solder a GPS antenna to the chip, if the GPS receiver is already there?

You can find some macro pictures posted here from days ago: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ama...o-photo-amazon-fire-2015-motherboard-t3227808
But I don't think it has GPS still from a quick look but I could easily be wrong, might want to ask in the topic if anyone saw anything specific.
We used the $20 off for the first order on amazon now coupon so for $30 I think this is an amazing lil tab

I agree that Spidotech is a new brand as compared to Amazon but there’s no harm in giving it a try, specially at such a low price. I bought the Sleek W1 for my son and he loves it. The processor works very good and the tablet is perfect for everyday use. It also has a lot of pre-installed educational apps and games.

What's more important for me is the stability. I do not want my table to hang, or crash often.
Hi,
is ANY version of the Cyanogenmod ROM compatible to this Tablet yet ?

So far, the new Fire looks stable to me. No hangups or crashes. The only thing is the RAM is slow, and it takes time to load a huge app like Facebook.
In Japan, it's sold at USD45 including shipping for Prime members, and it's totally worth it for day-to-day use.
I was thinking about purchasing an Amazon Fire for the amazing low price of $50. My main device of use since it was released in 2011 has been the 1st gen Kindle Fire. It was given to me as a gift, otherwise on my own I would've never ventured into the realm of owning an Amazon device because of its initial slave device status. It's nice to see current Android development on the Fire

Fire hd10 9th gen everything but 1 app help

Got a brand new fire hd10 9th gen has the software it shipped with I didn’t do the OTA. Using fire toolbox that I got from xda thanks! I made all the mods I could and got play store set etc. got apps downloaded no big deal.
My problem is specific and strange to me. The app Jurassic world alive is important to the person this gift is for and google play states the app is incompatible with the device.
So I figured ok just side load no big deal I have a good apk of it from a good site and any time I attempt to side load it gets 3/4 through the install bar and abruptly changes to app not installed. No error message or anything else. Any ideas since I can’t root this and change the build prop to download it from the play store.
Thanks.

Hi - I got this device and then found out its only 32bit userspace - so 64bit cpu and kernel but essentially the OS is 32 bit - So some apps wont work - I guess I should have done more research - I wanted to use it for dolphin emulator but that's a no go for this reason - and also not hackable to put a custom rom on yet

Yea I got annoyed with it and found that none of the rootable fires were on sale so I’m returning it and went to buy a Lenovo m8 tablet instead since it was on sale for pretty much the same price and is true android plus I didn’t realize how much I wouldn’t like the 10 inch form factor

Understand - Think I will keep mine - I was also looking at Lenovo and Huawei 8" and 10" formats - Have a Ipega 9083s controller so i could do some retro gaming - PPSSPP works great for PSP games and is fast, also Call of Duty mobile plays fab at medium quality - so is a good fast tablet, just a shame that its not fully 64bit, or hackable (yet
£89 quid isn't a bad price after all for a 10" Octa-core tablet with full HD screen - especially after using Fire toolbox to remove all the amazon stuff - Steam Link/Xbox Game pass etc all work great.
I also have a Linx Windows 10 10" tablet from a few years ago - that i got Android 11 on thanks to the Bliss-OS guys - that was an Atom 64bit processor on a mainboard with a 32 bit bios which meant Windows 32 bit so this mish-mash of tech isn't anything new
