currently on OG5 root, possible to get PB1 , root, unlocked bootloader ? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am currently on OG5 and rooted but I want to update to pb1, root and have unlocked bootloader. Is this possible ? Should I just update to the latest OTA and follow the unlock boot loader guide ? As unlocked bootloader implies root correct ? I'm not a super noob but just want to make sure I do it correcrly.
Thanks

As long as you are rooted, you can unlock the bootloader, provided your CID begins with 15. If it begins with 11 you are stuck with what you have. 2 links for ya, 1st is for the PB1 update without losing root (jrkruse has a method for this, just search the thread). 2nd link is for unlocking the bootloader.

[Q] Where to go from here?

Hi,
I have a brand new Sony Ericsson UK Xperia Play on Android 2.3.3, Build: 3.0.1.A.0.145. (Latest T-Mobile OTA Update).
I want to:
Root my phone and Try out Cyanogeon Mod
Am I correct in thinking that to root my phone I need to unlock my bootloader or do i need to downgrade somehow?
Thanks,
XperiaPlayer
If your device is sim locked, you cannot unlock the bootloader, without an unlock bootloader, you must downgrade in order to root, check out the stickies in the android development forum

Right,
So to get it rooted it would be better to downgrade?
Regarding the sim-unlock thing, when I put the IMEI into sony's website it gave me an unlock code? (However Im going to try an orange sim in it)
Also to downgrade is it simple (As in through SEUS) or would one be better off unlocking the bootloader and flashing a rooted kernel?
Thanks,
XperiaPlayer

To root you do not need an unlocked bootloader, but for you to install CM7 you do need an unlocked bootloader.
If you unlock your bootloader you will not get updates from SE (SEUS, OTA or Pc Companion if you try to use any of them after unlocking your bootloader it will brick your phone) you will have to come to this fourm for the updates. Plus it will void your phones warranty but you can now relock the bootloader thanks to blagus so i suppose that doesn't matter really.
You can try unlocking your bootloader (worth a try if you cannot get another sim? it will either fail or succeed), follow the guide here. Or follow the steps on the SE website. If it works you do not need to downgrade since you can install any of the rooted .img's or custom kernels e.t.c which are on 2.3.3 and are rooted.
If you cannot unlock your bootloader you can still root but you will have to downgrade to 2.3.2 using flashtools.
You can only root (with a locked bootloader) on on 2.3.2 since gingerbreak does not work on 2.3.3 (its been patched). So if you want root on 2.3.3 you will have to flash 2.3.2 then root then do the ota update. Follow the guide here to root with a locked bootloader.
Using flashtools to downgrade is the exact same as using SEUS really (both need the phone off and to be connected in flash mode).

[Q] update to official firmware after rooting and unlocking bootloader

hi, every xperia play owners in this forum, my this thread is for a noob question i just wanted to know would i will be able to upgrade to official 2.3.4 firmware without flashing process after i had unlocked my bootloader, rooted and have flashed dooms kernel on it ?? will it brick my phone or i hav to relock bootloader ??
Updating normally will brick the phone with an unlocked bootloader. You would need to re-lock it or flash the ROM manually.

Rooting and unlocking MM

Will the exploit "Working Root Method For 5.0 Lollipop Roms [OE1] [OG5] [OK3] [PB1] [3-3-16]" work on Marshmallow after getting the MM ota (flashed stock G900VBPB1 prior to downloading)
No. Attempting it will most likely softbrick your device, and possibly hardbrick.

Nandr0idC0nsumer is correct, but you still can get root on MM even after having taken the OTA. However you will need to flash back to PB1, root PB1, then unlock the PB1 bootloader; after which you will need to do the MM bootloader Unlock and root method, http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...t/rd-unlocking-galaxys-s5-bootloader-t3337909

G900V from 4.4.4 to most current version with root?

Looked thru the other threads, and didnt see anything that pertained directly perhaps someone can point me in the right direction.
Have my stock S5 from verizon, on 4.4.4 NK2 firmware. Looking to update to whatever is the most current stock firmware with root. I'm coming to this from years of rooting Sprint devices, this is my first Verizon and I've been putting it off forever. Been getting the nag screen everyday now for a software update and I figured it was the time to update this and get myself root.
Thanks in advance for any help in where to look. Please forgive me in advance if this is a duplicate, I searched...I really did, but since its all new to me I wanted to ask.
Looks like the process is to flash 4.4.2, root, check if bootloader can be unlocked, and then proceed 2 different ways if it can be dev bootloader unlocked. If it can, unlock bootloader, flash twrp, and then flash whatever rom you want. If you can't unlock the bootloader, folow the guides to upgrade keeping root with safestrap and use roms that are TW for locked bootloaders. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I just got a 4.4.4 g900v myself in a trade and I'm figuring out how to proceed as well.
Ok, slight difference. You can root & check the bootloader from 4.4.4...

If you can unlock your bootloader (I could), then flash the bootloader of choice from that link above to correspond to the rom you want. I'll be trying out Phoenix with pd4 (installed from above link) from here...

Unlock and relock still possible with A2017U B27?

Hi there folks,
Did anyone on stock b27 non-root, locked bootloader try if the unlock procedure provided by @DrakenFX still works? Also if relock is still working? I mean did the bootloader unlock procedure already got changed as announced from ZTE?
For now I want to stay stock, but don't want to loose possibility to unlock after the update to B27...
Thx!
Or is it at least possible to downgrade to B20 from B27 using tenfar's tool and then unlock bootloader?
Just for the record: it is still possible to unlock on fully stock B27 using this threads method:
