Hi all,
I got a notification on my G2 D802 to update to 5.0 lollipop a while ago but wondering if its safe to do so. I goggled it and found out that some people had some major issues with battery drain and bad wifi performance. Anyway I proceeded to download the LG PC suite to still give it a try however I got this message on startup. " Android 5.0 Lollipop guide
Date : 2014.11.27
For phone or tablet with Android 5.0 Lollipop or later,
phone or tablet will not back up or restore properly due to security on Android.
Refrain from use.
"
Now I am really thinking twice lol.. Can anyone shed some light on this? Is it safe to update? Can anyone did it before can advice me?
Updated without problems. I even didn't need to do factory reset after update, zero problems. On the other hand, I didn't find any new worthy functionality that I couldn't live without. I like new design of quick switches because I'm partly colorblind and those on KitKat were hard to read for me. And if you need to make selfies in dark there is great function to use white screen as lamp.
Thanks for your reply. If for some reason i dont like it can i roll back through pc suite?

Software Update

What is the difference between OTA and the update.zip that is on the ZTE's website?
Which is a safer method so I don't brick my phone?
the rom on ZTE website is the full image, if it's the same build as the one OTA, there is no difference. Not all roms available on ZTE website until now have been pushed to OTA. Both methods are supposedly safe, but if you have one available through OTA, go for it...
By the way why don't you give more details.............? like your device model and your current build version. The roms on ZTE website are meant for the G version and not for A2017 or A2017U models. What build did your system update receive?
An OTA is a smaller file that updates you from one specific version to another. (for example, B27 to B29). The files are typically less than 1GB.
If the update.zip is more than 1GB, then that sounds like a complete system image, which will install that version no matter what version you're coming from. It can be used to restore a device to factory default, downgrade to an earlier version, etc, as it overwrites all of the old system files.
I have the 2017U version with B29 software.
Does this phone have the floating menu like samsung phones? It was a little icon that floated in the screen and when I tap on it, it had menus from volume rocker to tap to lock.etc
Also, is there a screen timeout setting? I can't find it anywhere in settings

The floating menu is MiPop. It can be turned off in the notifications shade, and you can configure it in the Settings menu.
iirc the screen timeout settings are in Settings > Display

Is there a way to increase the bitrate of my videos? It is being recorded in 8 mbps with 98kbps stereo audio which is way worse than my note 4 I switched from that recorded in 17 mbps with 256kbps stereo audio? Can this be fixed with a software update?
My Axon A2017 B07 could jump its version directly to B13 or should do it version by version
B07 B09 B10 B11 B13../ thanks in advance from italy
Sent from my ZTE A2017 using XDA Labs

See if your build version has the full firmware installer. Take a look at your B07 to B13 update packages and download the one with at least 2.1GB of data. If you don't feel safe, you can do it version by version

I changed the bitrate on other phones using the build.prop but that requires either a rooted device or custom recovery which I haven't done since I repurchased this phone 1 week ago.
Here are the tweaks if you want to attempt it.
# Increase camera's photo and video recording quality
ro.media.dec.jpeg.memcap=8000000
ro.media.enc.hprof.vid.bps=8000000
ro.media.enc.hprof.vid.fps=65
# Better Flashlight intensity and camera-flash quality
ro.media.capture.flash=led
ro.media.capture.flashMinV=3300000
ro.media.capture.torchIntensity=40
ro.media.capture.flashIntensity=70
ro.media.capture.maxres=8m
ro.media.capture.fast.fps=4
ro.media.capture.slow.fps=120
ro.media.panorama.defres=3264x1840
ro.media.panorama.frameres=1280x720
ro.camcorder.videoModes=true

Should I

I'm currently on stock ROM 339 rooted with magisk
It's was not the best update but it's working ok.
Should I update to 340 ?
Some says charging current decreased after update
Also a little low volume of headphones as compared to earlier

Issue in new Official IT FWR

Just update to latest firmware, but ringing and notify audio are not louder than before... someone has same issue ?
