Which color to choose for nexus 6P? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys I'm really confused between GRAPHITE AND ALUMINUM. I love both the colors but ive heard some people saying that on graphite its much easier to see the scratches and fingerprints all over it. In aluminum people say it'll hide the scratches and fingerprints...... But then the chamfered edges on aluminum is shiny similar to what iPhone 5 series had and after sometime those edges start to look ugly and scratches can be seen easily on those edges, as I have already used iPhone 5 white variant.
Now I'm all confused whether which color should i choose...
What you guys think, pls share your opinions and mention the reasons as well.

get graphite.

Aluminum is my least favorite in picture but super sexy in person.

I got the Aluminum, looks the best. Black shows fingerprints and is an old look, everyone has had a black phone before.

But what about the edges in silver variant which might turn ugly due to scratches after some use?

Pick the color you really want and don't worry about it. You are better off spending time worrying about the phone bending than having scratches.

I am waiting to have the Silver version delivered... I think that it's a matter of whether you would like to see the rear "visor" or not. If it's a feature you like, get the alu, otherwise the black one tends to hide it, but makes the phone a bit less unique.
Owning a black HTC One M7, its anodized aluminum surface has now small chips and scratches which are very visible due to the color contrast with the body. By the way, the chamfered edges look like they are the element least prone to scratches

If you want premium go for gold
I have that one and damn this thing feels looks premium also that black visor on gold looks dope!
Cheers ?

I got graphite because who doesn't want a jet black phone?

Graphite here. Using a case anyway, rhino bumper. Not a single scratch, bending is an issue if you sit on your phone or charge it to the point it's going to explode.
Colour choice is 6 of one and half a dozen of the other, its soley down to the end user.

Do you see fingerprints on its back on daily basis? Does it look oily? How often do you have to rub the back to make it look clean?

So just by overcharging there are chances of it getting bent?

Batteries swell when they're overcharged. I've seen a mechanics diagnostic kit actually break the device, the device split almost in half as the battery had more than tripled in size.
I know it's not supposed to happen but believe me it can.

This is an iPhone

You should the need titanium orange color.

Is there any way to change the back from Silver to graphite just like how we did on Google Nexus 6 ?

I know to use the skin.. My question is whether we can change the back if aluminum or silver or graphite get damage ? Just like how we use to do in Nexus 6.

I got the aluminum version mainly because my brother has the graphite. I like it because you can see the Nexus name better. I got my wife the gold one and i think that one looks more elegant. I don't like gold colored things but its the best looking.

Black HTC One doesn't stand up well to everyday day use naked

This is how my friends Black htc one looks after throwing it in and out of her purse (with keys and other obvious hazards in a separate area) after 5 days.

Why? All hazards like loose change and keys are kept in a separate side compartment.
There's not much in the purse pocket it goes into besides leather wallet, and some lipstick which has a plastic exterior
My black One is still in great condition only two very very little marks at the top edge, barely noticeable and easily covered by using a black marker. I don't baby my phone anymore as I did in the first few days, but I don't deliberately risk scratching it by sharing the same pocket with other hard object either.
I know it will stand my daily use well without needing a case.

sometimes i really wonder about the intelligence level of some XDA users
Actually there are some reviews of early iPhone 5s in black where apparently the surface was so fragile you could write your name in the black surface on the back using a fingernail! I think the One doesn't suffer quite at that level, but it will chip. Still, any phone thrown in a bag with all sorts of bits and pieces is asking for trouble if you are expecting to remove it still in pristine condition!
The One S had similar issues with the ARC finish if I recall correctly.
Those are chips. So throwing a phone in a bag/purse cannot cause that. Has to hit the ground or she dropped it and didn't know or something.

The htc One does not have MAO coating as seen on htc one s, it's only anodized silver. So it does not have the same chipping issue but because silver is soft, hitting on hard object will still leave a mark.

Yes, agree, my wife is like the op lady who doesn't really look after her phone well, she drops it, throws it, forgets where she left it all the time, they are just normal people using their phone. We all know putting One with coins, keys will damage it, and I think that will be all.
However, like I did to my wife's phone, I would suggest simply getting a good tpu case, then you are good to abuse the phone.

I think you'll find it's made of an anodised aluminium alloy, not silver, and is harder than silver.
I think there is little doubt at this point that the black finish isn't as well suited to standing up to the rigours of daily as the silver version. Paul Obrien's black one got scuffed up without being dropped on hard surfaces quite quickly, and lord knows I will trust his experience more than most of the forumers here.

Well, I wouldn't just conclude on that, because as a black One owner, my One is holding up quite well, and as I said, I don't baby my phone anymore, but will still take good care of it.
I think it's in the end down to personal preference, one thing we cannot argue is that aluminum is soft and it will get marks if you don't look after it, see iPhone 5 as a living example, so when it gets scratched, the underlying silver colour will be more noticeable on black phone than on a silver phone, so black owners naturally take the risk. However, a simple permanent black marker will do a perfect job of covering those marks.
Both silver and black share the same coating, anodized aluminum, so in terms of vulnerability of scratching, they are the same, only difference is noticeability (is it a word? Well you get my point.)

I am correcting myself here, in terms of the back of the phone, both black and silver have anodized aluminum but the chambered edge does not. It may just be painted in black on black One and exposed natural silver on silver One. So yes, the chambered edge if scratched on black One may look nasty. But again, only if you don't take good care of your phone.

Don't put your phone in a purse. Simple as that. God knows what's in there. There could be a whole sandy beach at the bottom.
Is it just me or does that look like a black HTC One dummy unit and not a real phone? The black dummy units don't have actual holes cut for the speaker grills, just little faded paint dots, which is what that looks like. I would think the speaker holes would look a lot darker in the pictures if they were actually holes. The dummy units have way crappier build quality so that would totally invalidate the findings.

Black One issues

Hello all, I just wanted to share this with everyone. I'm loving my black one, it's absolutely perfect! At least, that's what I thought until 30 minutes ago. As you can see in the title I've been having some problems with my black one. I know there already is a thread "black one not suitable for daily use", or something similar, but a lot of posts in that thread are being treated as trolls and this is a bIt different (no dents or chipping in the corners like the others, but on the back itself)
First of all, it attracts fingerprints VERY easily. Though this is a known problem and I knew this before actually receiving it (and it isn't such a big issue for me), it is worth mentioning (again) for people who still can't decide between silver and black. For me personally, this issue is completely worth it as black is BEAUTIFUL.
Second, a bigger issue, the black is coming off. I've had it for two days (just two!!!) and I can see silver. These are just dots, and they look just like dust. At first I even thought it was dust, but that was until I tried to clean it (first with my shirt, that didn't help so then I grabbed a moist cloth, which didn't work either so I then made the already moist cloth a bit wetter. No difference! hell, I even tried soap that's how desperate I am ). I will attach a photo, but it isn't very good quality because I made it using my One and a dirty mirror. Everything I didn't circle is dust, so you can see how much it looks like dust.
Now you're probably wondering what the hell I did with it, and the answer is completely nothing abnormal. I kept it in the official case when it was going in my pocket or when I was outside, and it got out of the case in it's full glory when at home and at work during breaks. I didn't drop it, it was in my pocket with nothing else (well, just the case), and I have been extremely careful with it, I didn't even let others hold it for more than a minute. What I'm gonna do now is look if it really really really isn't just dust with some more cleaning, then I'll look if a permanent marker hides it and either way I'll buy a skin for it (not a case, I already have one, and my pouch is still on its way, but a skin like a screen protector but for the back too) any suggestions for a good one?
Anyway, this is a warning for anyone considering/owning the back wish me luck with hiding the silver!

Yea I read that too, but my concern is that it will be another color (slightly darker/lighter) and still be noticeable. Ah well, still better than silver dots on black but it still shouldn't happen IMO. I'm starting to think the case is the cause, because it now has 2 more of those dots after taking it out of the case again

Totally agree that it shouldn't happen, especially just taking it out of a case. I have decided not to have a case for the first time ever, if I get scratches then so be it, adds character to the phone

Wow! Ok I'll be honest at first I thought the issue is only happening on the speaker grill but seeing this. If anyone other than you posted some more issues like this then I am gonna be quite dissappointed on the anodization process of HTC now. Production issue is a good reason for having thin anodized layers but this thin is already way too bad.
I will still be giving HTC a benefit of the doubt here considering that you're the 1st one to post this. It could be a factory defect or there must be some specs of hard object in the case/pocket big enough to damage the back.
Do you have the double dip case? If so, the case's hard plastic inner section can scratch the phone when going on or coming off. Or, as the other user suggests, ensure you don't have dust ir sand particles in your case.
Currently interchangeably using HTC One, BBZ10 and Note 2
The double dip case is awful it gets sand and grit in it very easily. I have managed to scratch my silver version (couldn't wait for the black) on the front around the top of the speaker and several places on the back and side. I actually bought the case before I even had my phone that's how eager I was to protect it. Nothing makes your heart sink more than when you slide the case from your phone and you feel it grind on some grit. I now have it in an otterbox defender (this also has its own issues )
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
Now I know for sure that the official case was the problem. I haven't put it on anymore and there are no more of those silver dots appearing. I really advise not to buy that case!

The White Nexus 4, naked and vulnerable

Why has there not been a single decent case out for this phone? The protective cases are ugly, the fancy cases don't protect, the legit cases break... This is the gosh darn Google Nexus 4! Are people serious? I happen to be the owner of the White 16gb, and I'm starting to wish I didn't buy this phone because of the fact I can't protect it in any decent way. I'm scared for it whenever I go places with it, my screen already has 2 small scratches. You know that feeling you get when you want to punch an inanimate object in the face and your head just explodes trying to calm down about it? Yeah that happened, It's called discontinued for a reason. Is a nice white bumper so hard to ask for? Sure there's the poetic borderline, in great colors...other than white, or the Ringke Fusion, only available in black. Do they not realize the sought after white look on the Nexus 4 -or any phone for that matter- is very prominent in the community? One that doesn't break, or have some lame chinsy stand on the back of it? How about one that doesn't look like you bought it in a twelve pack at the flea market that you have to scrape the molded excess edge off with a razor blade.
Okay, gripe session over.
Seriously! I'd pay 50 bucks to the next guy who can make a Ringke Fusion in white!
People who own this phone either got lucky on an upgrade, or know their stuff. Where is our golden case? Where is our holy grail?
It's one of those moments where I wish I got into engineering and design so I could make a better version myself.
But wait, who is "they"? It's nobody, and this is just a cellular device, that will have a big brother or sister coming out in time. I look at it as part of history. This is the White Google Nexus 4, discontinued and rare, and I want a nice case for it.
With that being said...Can anybody recommend a decent white case for me? I've read, I've researched, I've bought, I've tried, and I'm bored. I stuck with my Google White Nexus Bumper, and will continue to until a nice case comes out. I'm not here to say I have all the qualifications to complain this much about something I quite frankly am not doing much to try and change. But is there anybody out there who owns the White Nexus 4, and feels this same way?
Furthermore, I sincerely hope Google creates a veteran program in the future with nifty benefits for the OG Nexus 4 Owners...just sayin =)

Go to select colour and choose white. There are a couple more around the web if you research correctly, these are the first few that managed to pop in my head. And a white fusion, sounds good but not happening. White cases are usually rare to find, especially a good one regardless of phone but yes the Nexus 4 doesn't have much accessories compared to the mainstream phones. White cases tend to look amazing but get dirty quick. As for scratches on your [email protected] Protectors.

I would not recommend this case. Picked it up for my white Nexus 4 and it discolored/yellowed pretty quickly... ended up tossing it in the trash. White cases for the N4 are definitely harder to find - really wish there was a Ringke Fusion in white... I may just pick up the Ringke Slim in white though.
Alright thanks everyone, I was hoping somebody would mention that white tpu with the clear back, I heard that it scratches up pretty easy and looks like poop after a while. Looks like I'm with the LG bumper for a little while :\ For anybody that's interested, I'm working on a modification to the silver plastic ring around the stock bumper, My plan to dremel away the part that drops down around the usb port, and glue the corners before the drop so that the part that stretches is the rubber around the port as opposed to...well now it's cracked ... the silver plastic, which is why it cracked in the first place. Will post with pics eventually if anybody is interested in seeing how it looks, it's a minor detail, but the cracked pieces keep getting stuck in my pocket when I take it out.
My white Nexus is paired with a Poetic Atmosphere case. The translucent body goes well with the whites and the grey silicon sort of merges with the blacks on the screen edges.
Pair it with a gadget shield full body guard and you have a winner. At least I do...

N9005 Black vs White Back Cover Difference?

I've read a few posts around the web that the White N9005 Note 3 has a more plastic-texture back cover and the black one feels more like leather.
I also saw a video comparison of both Black vs White and the reviewer said they felt the same.
Is it possible that the Carrier branded White Note 3 have a different texture white cover compared to the black?
I'm planning on buying an unlocked N9005 on eBay and want to get the white one. Can anyone confirm the back cover difference?
Yup it's different. I have both. International Set. Black back cover indeed got the leather look & feel. As for the white, it's just a normal hard plastic case with texture on it.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
I'm pretty sure they only did this cause a soft touch white one would get dirty much easier.. My white one has a rather smooth back it seems like it'd be easier to slip out of my hand than the black one.
I've held both and the black one feels better in your hand, but in my opinion the white one looks better.

No matter how careful you are accidents happen. I think a case is a must with this phone considering the size and cost.
There is a reboot bug OP that causes it to continuously cycle until you pull the battery. Disable wifi scanning to prevent this from happening.

White 6P Back Discoloration

I had to take my skinomi off my phone because it had become so discolored from my jeans. Now I'm wondering if I should get another and have to replace it down the road as well from the same issue or go without. I want to know though if other users of the white model have noticed discoloration? I'd rather end up with blue skins than a blue phone, but if going naked avoids it altogether that'd be cool. Thanks
Have had a white naked for a year+ and looks pristine. No spots, no stains, no discoloration.

The phone looks nice naked but the aluminum body is prone to dents and dings if you aren't careful with the phone. When I was looking at used ones on EBay last summer it was hard to find one without dings, dents or scratches on the body.

I'm not too worried about that since I've been using the phone with nothing but a bumper and skin since it was released and it still looks pristine other than my skin getting discolored. Though I will say the issues you mentioned is one reason I still prefer plastic to metal phones.

Yeah, just to loosen the glue, I don't remember it being too difficult. I used a hair dryer just because I wasn't at work. Also an easy way to get the glass and trim off are to use a razor blade put in at the antenna band and gently pry, must use heat!

Thanks. I was able to take off the back cover no problem. I was just nervous about messing with the NFC chip. It's too bad you can't find replacements.
