Cannot install anything from Oculus - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi, I get the following error message when trying to install aything from Oculus Store
I am using G935F, Stock UK ROM, Un Rooted
Can anybody help. Thanks

Did you disable any Facebook apps starting with com.facebook.etc.? I believe these are needed for VR stuff, Oculus belongs to Facebook. There should be 2 of them.

Yap that fixed it, Thanks so much.

I just received my oculus. I have the GS7 edge. When I connect my phone to the oculus for initial setup, then remove it as instructed, I get a network error. I've taken both to AT&T and have spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone with various people. No one could help. Anyone have any ideas?

Hello!
After the most recent Gear VR update, we noticed that you may be having issues upgrading to the latest version of the Oculus software. This also may affect your ability to download and install content for your Gear VR. This may be due to having some critical Oculus services blocked or disabled. Below are some steps to help enable those services to allow this update and future updates to reach your Samsung device for Gear VR usage.
If you continue to have problems after following the instructions below, please reach out to Oculus Support via https://support.oculus.com and we will work with you to resolve your issue.
Why aren't Gear VR apps installing or updating on my mobile phone?
If Gear VR apps aren't installing on your mobile phone, the most likely reason is that the App Manager and Installer aren't enabled.
What does the App Manager and Installer do?
The App Manager and Installer allow Gear VR apps to be installed on your mobile phone. It also makes sure that the latest versions of Oculus apps are on your mobile phone.
How do I turn on App Manager and Installer ?
To turn on the App Manager and Installer, tap on the "Settings" application, then "Applications" and finally "Application Manager". Make sure you have chosen the "All" category and find the following applications:
com.facebook.appmanager (App Manager)
com.facebook.system (Installer)
Tap into each and make sure they are enabled.
Unable to find com.facebook.system
If you are on Android OS 6.0 (Marshmallow), com.facebook.system may not be visible. Please try the following steps:
1. Navigate to Settings
2. Tap on Application Manager
3. Locate the More menu in the upper right corner
4. Tap Show System Apps
5. This will make com.facebook.system visible and allow you to enable it
The App Manager and the Installer must be enabled before Gear VR apps can be installed and updated on your mobile phone.

This worked great.... Does having the Facebook stuff enabled waste any battery? And can I disable again after installing? Been trying to figure out why nothing would install for days

You nailed it. I had a notification that said com.facebook needs to install. Once I completed the install i could install groove and other apps from the Oculus app store.

This fixed my issue, thank you!

Hi,
Currently working with the Samsung Gear VR on a S6 Edge. Recently, I factory reset my phone due to lack of storage space. When I went to reinstall Oculus everything went through fine but when I try to install apps from the Oculus store it goes through the download process, then when it begins installation it stops and says, "Could not install (app name)." Facebook app manager and Facebook app installer are both enabled and I still get the error. Please help, can't seem to find a solution.

Have you found a solution? We have exactly the same issue with the same equipment.

Guys, Here is the solution, may be the only solution in the internet for this issue.
My device is Samsung S6 edge and Device is Gear VR and Hopefully the solution applies to all the devices with the same issue.
1. Need to install Facebook app and sign in
2. Login to oculus using facebook account
Important part is, it seems some of the service doesn't have the storage permission, what I did was allow storage permission to all the "Oculus" Applications and "Facebook" application which are in direct apps as well as systems apps.
Works fine for me !! Thank you

[Q] Help->How to install non-marketplace app

I have a brand new AT&T Tab and need assistance. I am able to install non-marketplace apps using Sideload Wonder Machine however I have an interesting problem. I have an app (Lotus Notes Installer) that itself downloads another app and tries to install it but I get the dreaded "For security, your phone is set to block installation of applications not obtained from Android Market" message.
I have installed and run z4root and did a temporary root and also installed Superuser and Busybox and I still get the block message.
I am an Android newbie and don't know exactly how to proceed.
Thanks,
Richard
Hey Richard,
I had the same type of problem you did with my AT&T SGT. I also used the Sideload Wonder Machine. Here is link for my situation. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914697
Lotus Note Installer app downloading and installing another app? I have not hit that kind of hurdle. Can you get your hands on the apk that Lotus Note Installer is trying to download and install? Maybe you can istall that through sideload wonder machine?

This may be a stupid question, but have you set your Tab to allow installing of non-market apps? It's in Settings - Applications - check 'Unknown sources'
I do not see an option in my settings for "allow unknown sources", here's what I have:
Settings>Application
Manage Applications
- this doesn't appear to have any options for unknown sources settings
Running Services
- this is only for stopping running services
Development
- only options here are USB debugging, stay awake, allow mock locations
Am I missing something? or did AT&T remove the option from recently shipping tabs? (got mine yesterday)
I was able to sideload the Notes Installer, but once on the Tab, that application connects to the corporate server and attemtps to install another application on the Tab and that is where I get stuck.
Use SuperOneClick. This tool not only allow rooting but has option for allowing install of non-market apps. Simply select that option and it will update your systems settings to allow installs from other than market - sd card, web, etc. I am also using AT&T tab and this worked for me. Note it does not add the menu option of "allow apps from unknown sources" but trust me it works.
Sent from my SGH-I987 using XDA App
I installed the new firmware that allows me to make phone calls using the great instructions provided in theis forum and that resolved my issue and now i can install the Lotus Notes app with no problem. I am really liking the new O/S, it seems a little snappier than the the AT&T one.

You missed nothing - this is just another retarded AT&T carrier customization that they do on all their Android phones (AFAIK!).
Regards,
Dave
Yup, AT&T has removed the "install non-market apps" menu option from their retail Tabs. Very sad that they do that to their customers. I will say the I like their approach to selling the Tab, you pay the retail price and their is no contract to worry about and if you want data you pay on a month-to-month basis, exactly like they do with the Apple iPad. I cannot image getting a subsidized Tab from T-Mobile and getting stuck with a 2 year contract. In this market nobody keeps a phone or tablet for 2 years, it would be a dinosaur by then.

[Q] App stuck "Installing". How to cancel?

I made the mistake of trying to update a custom netflix APK to the latest Netflix out of the Amazon Appstore. Ever since, I've had an "Installing notification" and the app store lists the Netflix app as "Retrieving your app from the cloud."
I've rebooted, uninstalled the custom Netflix APK, reinstalled the custom APK, uninstalled again, and booted without network connectivity. I can't seem to cancel the installation.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
I was unable to find a solution and Amazon's support couldn't help me, so I reformatted the device.
Warning to others: Don't ever click "upgrade" from the Amazon Appstore over a custom APK.
I had the same problem. Not sure how I got into the position but I had 3 apps downloading from the cloud forever.
Support could not come up with a solution so the only solution was to reset the device, I had to wait until the unit had 40% charge to do that. After I reset, it has worked fine since.
I did not try to upgrade anything yet when this happened. I think it might have had something to do with GetJar which I got before it showed the Kindle Fire as a supported device (just used another 2.3 droid device)
Zathbu is right. you're better off not trying to upgrade a sideloaded apk via the app store. one of the reasons being amazon stores its apps (meaning, the ones u get from their store) on the cloud, but sideloaded apks are stored on the device. and besides, i believe the apks from the amazon app store are treated differently. i have both android market and amazon app store on my phone and the apps i get from the app store are not "seen" by the market at all (even if they are present on both places)
I pretty much had the same problem. I had side loaded an APK of an App I had previous on my Droid phone, and then decided to download from the Amazon AppStore instead (better resolution of icon!). It even nicely said that I had an app installed that wasn't registered to my account, and would I like to overwrite it. Obviously, I said "Yes". The app just sat there installing forever, and no amount of reboots would fix it, or allow any subsequent app installs. Mistake....well temporarily.
The fix is this (if I remember correctly!):
1. Click on Settings (Cog)
2. Click on More (+)
3. Click on Applications
4. Ensure Drop Down says "All Applications"
5. Select Appstore
6. Select Clear Data (this won't affect your other installed apps)
7. Reboot
At that point, you should probably uninstall the offending side loaded APK file, using the same method above (Steps 1 thru 4). Instead of selecting Appstore, choose your app, then click Uninstall instead. Then install from the Appstore instead.
Hope this helps someone.
Glad someone found a GUI method of doing this. In case that doesn't work for some people, I also had luck clearing the contents of /mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.amazon.venezia/cache/. You should be able to do that from an adb shell window, or a root-enabled file browser.
EDIT: After a quick brain fart, I realized that since that is technically on the "sdcard" partition of the OS, you should be able to remove those APKs from the cache with the Kindle tethered via the USB cable.
This is what I do, root not needed nor rebooting:
1) I use ES File Explorer to clear /sdcard/Android/data/com.amazon.venezia/cache but any file manager should work.
2a) Use settings-> applications to clear the data and force stop Amazon appstore
2b) Or use any app manager or most app2sd apps to go to the detail page for the appstore and clear data and force stop. The app manager built into ES File Manager will work fine. I only list this as the second alternative since the other way uses the built-in settings vs. this requiring an app.
3) Go to the app section/tab on the launcher then select store to restart the appstore.
Sent from my HTC Flyer P512 using Tapatalk
You can also install a task manager and kill the "AppStore" process. That worked for me.
Worked for me!

The fix is in the Gear VR help section under update issues.
You have to enable the two applications which maybe disabled for some reason.
com.facebook.appmanager (App Manager)
com.facebook.system (Installer)
I located them in applications and viewed the system applications.

MicroG/Tingle Lineage OS installed; no push notifications but the errors for GPS gone

I have the MicroG apps, as well as tingle on my Moto G4 Play.
For apps that require Google Play Services (Protonmail, Nextdoor, etc), the "missing Google Play Services" errors are gone, but I still don't receive push notifications. Nextdoor app simply crashes with the error "Nextdoor has stopped - Open app again or Mute until device restarts"
This thread regarding Unifiedlp is similar to what I see occurring in Microg: https://github.com/ale5000-git/tingle/issues/23
The dev states, "This usually happen when you install the app as user app, on Android 7+ it should be installed as system app" - can any one point me to info on how to do that?
This is my first time installing a new OS to a phone.

I already installed microg & tingle on my device; I can uninstall the microg apps to use this, but how do I uninstall tingle (I don;t see any presence for it)?
Will this installer simply overwrite/ignore anything that already exists?
I think there may simply be a setting I'm overlooking, perhaps.. like, unifiedlp is all unticked in the self-check, but the app shows under settings, so it exists and is installed.
Not sure what else to check

Tingle isn't a thing that can be installed, it simply patch a file on the device.
It is needed for microG so if you use it, I suggest to NOT undo the patch.

Yes, the installer will simply overwrite anything that already exists (except if you have already installed microG on the /system with custom filenames but it is unlikely).
Thanks to the Signal messaging app, I clued in on what I was doing wrong.
If anyone else researching this issue stumbles across this, here's what fixed it:
1) Update the affected app, if updates are available
2) microG Settings -> Google Cloud Messaging: Enable, not sure if I needed Google device registration, but I enabled it, too; as well as Google SafetyNet
Today I received my first notification from one of the apps I was struggling with. Nothing for Protonmail yet, though.

SafetyNet isn't needed for most apps.
If you use Push notifications you must enable Google device registration and Google Cloud Messaging.
Reinstall all the apps installed before microG (it is needed to get the permissions); also in case an app don't have working push notification you must also delete its app data.

[GUIDE] Google Play Store on rooted Fire TV (Systemless / microG)

The instructions below reflect the process I followed to install the Google Play Store on my Fire TV Stick 3 (sheldonp) which I have been using for a month now. To be clear, I am not responsible for anything that happens to your device as a result of following this guide.
If you already have knowledge of the process, then it is simply setting up microG Istaller Revived with the Android TV Google Play Store.
If you are new to this, then the entire process is explained below. It is assumed that the Fire TV is already rooted and has Magisk installed.
Download the following and transfer the files to the Fire TV using adb, file transfer apps or a file manager with LAN/Cloud access.
LSPosed
FakeGApps
Google Play Store (Android TV)
microG Installer Revived
LSPosed is available in two variants as of now, but the Zygisk one is considered to be the way forward. So, in case you are using the Zygisk release, then you need to enable Zygisk from Magisk settings as well.
Go to the Modules section of Magisk and select ‘Install from storage’, following which, choose the LSPosed zip. This step was tricky for me because it opens the DocumentsUI for selection, which doesn’t quite work with the remote. I used a wired mouse with OTG, but that too was quite wonky. Eventually, I managed to enable ‘Show internal storage’ from the right-hand menu and then internal storage from the left-hand menu. The good news is that once you select a folder and module, then the same folder always remains open in DocumentsUI, making future module installations easier. Reboot as required.
It is most likely that you will not see the LSPosed app on your homescreen, so navigate to /data/adb/lspd using a root file manager or adb and install the manager.apk file present in that folder to get the LSPosed app on the homescreen.
Install the FakeGapps apk and enable the module from within the LSPosed app.
Rename the Android TV Play Store downloaded earlier to Phonesky.apk and copy it to /data/adb using a root file manager or adb.
Install the microg Installer Revived module from within Magisk and reboot when prompted.
After reboot, you should see the Google Play Store icon in your app drawer. Open it, choose sign-in, after which it will redirect you to the Google web login process through microG.
That’s it! You should now have a fully functional Play Store on the Fire TV.
Bonus: Some specific apps from the Play Store fail to invoke the Amazon keyboard for input fields. In that case, you can download a keyboard from the Play Store and make it the default one. I did so for Gboard installed from the Play Store and the command to do so was as follows:
Code:
ime list
ime enable com.google.android.inputmethod.latin/com.android.inputmethod.latin.LatinIME
ime set com.google.android.inputmethod.latin/com.android.inputmethod.latin.LatinIME
Hello!
I don't see the Play Store app in the drawer even after placing the Phonesky.apk at /data/adb. I only see the Microg Revived app that I installed via Magisk

If during the microG Installer Revived installation you see "Installing real Play Store", then it means the store was installed properly.
I have been using the FireTV Leanback Launcher since day 1 since I absolutely hate the KFTV launcher interface which also happens to not display all sideloaded apps. Not sure if you are using the default launcher then.
Thank you for the procedure, I can now use application which needs google services.
But I can't use google play store because I can't log in. Every time I enter my login, I become back to begening of login procedure. Is there is something I should do ? Thanks

I ran into the same problem. Every time I entered my email address microG's Login Activity would crash. What fixed this for me was downgrading to an older version of microG. Now I'm using the version packaged with microG Installer Revived v2.4.0, and have had no issues logging in. If you're using v20.4 Magisk Manager then this the version available to download straight from the app.
