Battery life, Screen on Time always = 3 hrs - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I have got my Oneplus Two ever since last September. It is a great phone overall. However, one thing that's bugging me is the battery life. I admit I am a relatively heavy user, but I can only squeeze out about 3 hours of screen on time out of it.
I thought earlier, maybe it is the problem of Oxygen OS (it overheats like hell as well). Then I switched to CM13 roms. CM13 does not overheat at all and is smooth all the time. But the battery performance is still not ideal. I would say it's probably just 10% better than OOS..
Any ideas on this? I don't care about warranty and I am an engineer .. should I maybe try to replace the battery? I suspect the battery is dodgy after lots of overheating in the OOS..
Thanks for advice!! Cheers.

3 hours heavy use is pretty standard for the phone. The phone doesn't let the battery get to dangerous temps so I don't think that's the thing. Android has always had kinda poor battery life at least when it comes to standby times. I'm on Seraphs CM13 and it seems to have a decent power consumption, maybe give it a try?

Thanks! I will try it out!

As Kirahvi said 3hrs are, more or less, normal for OOS 2.2.1 stock.. Now I'm using stock rom with boeffla (which allow underclock), Amplify and greenify.. and my SoT is about 5.30hrs!

3 hours is also the max I've ever gotten, though its usually a little less than that for me. I am a heavy user of my smartphones while I'm commuting on the train, because I have music on + constant screen on while surfing the web/facebook/twitter. And while I'm at work I have bluetooth connection to my Huawei watch to receive notifications throughout the day. Nowhere near the folks who managed to squeeze 4hrs - 6hrs SOT daily but overall still reasonable.
Battery life for me is the same on OOS and CM13. Standby time on marshmallow is a little better with the introduction of Doze, though it only works if your device is left stationary for a period of time.
I'd also like to point out that battery life is the same for me with or without the Facebook/FB Messenger app. Thats why I left them installed.

I got 4 hours if I tweaked the heck out of thing, reduced brightness and just managed power ad much as possible, but more often then not I was at 3.5 or less. I am using the Hydrogen beta and I get 4.5 without any effort and have even hit 5. You might try that too, I have tried ALL the CM13 ROMs it feels like, in fact I keep a backup of Seraphs nightlys as I like it so much better than hydrogen, but by far hydrogen gets the best battery life...and its not close.

More than 4 hours is just because people read a lot on their phone, 6+ hours I think you can easily reach that lowering the brightness, under clocking, never turn off screen and just let phone idle don't even touch screen never

Guys, what lot of people not really undarstanding,SOT its not really show you how is the battery, lot of else is playing in the background which is affecting your battery.
for example:
-celluar coverage(if you got less the perfect conennection its gonna drain your bettery, and no its doesnt matter how big city you living, more people, more house ,less coverage
-wifi (same as above, how good and stable your connection,as less the drain)
-kind of apps(which is more frequently sync, and connecting with gps ,those use more battery)
-How long is the phone without the charger(yes if you pull off the charger and living on the table always screen on ,using a bit and after 4h you uploding the stat,is it the same?? NO!)
Im living in central London with bad coverage, bad wifi connection all around, and from 9am till 1am I got around 3h SOT,which I think not bad with these condition.
So guys dont compare each other SOT ,couse every connections and condition is different.

Help me out in HTC DHD

i am planning to buy HTC DHD in a day or two......
all my friends say the battery is poor and blah... blah..
but i like the design, features, etc...
is the Battery really very poor and is there any other trouble in that mobile!!
There are roms that could help you out. They can increase your DHD's battery life If you are willing to root your phone...
I most admit... With normal ROM, the battery really suck.
I haven't tried to root and put a custom ROM on yet, but only heard good things about it!
hey dude the battery usage depends on how u use ur phone
btw, i m also buying DHD on 17th very excited for my first Android
The battery is no worse than any other HTC, infact the battery is slightly better on my DHD than my classic desire.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I've got a standard DHD, not rooted and no custom roms and I have no problem with the battery. I can get more than 24 hours out of a single charge and that is with what I would consider heavy use.
Echoing what has already been said, yes the battery life can be quite poor. My phone will last for a "day" out of the house, by which i mean ~8am-6pm, but will be at ~20% when i get home, so will need charging.
That said, the rest of the features more than make up for that in my opinion
If you manage your data and what you actually use your phone for then you can get lots of time out of your dhd, if you slam your phone by downloading loads and streaming all kinds of videos to it and using gps on maps constantly then yea it'll go, but for the size of the battery and what the phone can do i'm amazed it lasts as long as it does.
Right now I'm at 11h and 39m with 56% left. This is with 3g on. Facebook and twitter every 30 min but its set to automatically update. Surfing, Texting, and a few calls were made as well.
Replace the stock ROM with one of the ROMs available here. I personally use LeeDroid 2.3.4 Beta 4 with an updated Radio. And I am very happy with it. It has given me a better battery life as well as removal of those useless HTC apps is a bonus. I still use sense which adds a lot of frills to stock android. Also look into the battery threads where there are ideas on what to do to optimize battery usage.
If you are getting your first smartphone you'll probably be disappointed in terms of battery. They are like little laptops and you know how much their batteries drain out. It's not that bad, but it's completly different than a normal phone.
You can drain the battery in 4 hours with very heavy usage, with semi-heavy it'll last for ~8 hours. With my use I get about 24 hours. I get up in the morning (15mins Wifi), go to school 15mins Angry Birds, 20 mins or more wifi, come home and wifi + play for 20 mins. Calls 5mins. Go to sleep phone on standby. Next day the same and after school I'll charge and it'll be at 5%. This is very light use.
I'm using Android Revolution, but I'm getting worse battery than with stock because I flashed a bad radio for Finland.
Other faults, I've only found one.
First: The speaker, it's pretty bad. Sometimes if you are in a noisy place you might even miss a call because of the silent speaker. Want to listen to music or watch youtube videos using the phone's speaker? That'll be hard...
I had the same problem with the ROM Cyanogen CM7.
Consumption of the battery far too high.
You should know that the HTC rom with sense use a proprietary driver and less greedy.
For other's rom's hacking in the kernel.
I returned on a rom with sense, Leedroid 2.3.4, I' have never eaten my battery so little.
For Rom's nosense, I wait that problems are solved

I'll second that. Mine is the same too.
Given the Pros of the device I will not mind the battery life. Its ok-ish.
I am on stock ROM and I kinda have better battery then when I was on Revolution HD. It gets better after a week usage and after a simple calibration. I get between 24 and 36 hours of medium usage and 3g and autosync aways on. I think its pretty great for this beast!

why is battery drain so different

hi
this is not question, just more a thought
now i have read on several post on different forum, about the battery drain on the galaxy s 2.
and my big "concern" is why is there sooooo big different on the battery drain. some people can last for 2-3 days and some only 5-8-10 hours. from what they are telling they are using the phone almost equally..
for an example this first post here, he still have 50 % left, although he saw video, playing , surfing and call http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055164
mine last for about 10-12 hour with moderate use.. and i have killed all unused apps/task/services, wifi ,only 3g, low brightness, wipe batt state.. and installed villainrom
it sounds to me that some people get a really good phone/battery and some not.
Everyone's idea of light, moderate and heavy use varies. It really only comes down to a few major things. How long the screen is on, how often the device is awake, and how intensively the device was operating while awake.
If people know what to do (search the bloody forums for a start)they can achieve good battery life, too many fools are too quick to come on here and complain about poor battery life without even searching the forum, also anyone who gets 2-3 days clearly isn't using the phone that much, i usually get a full day out of medium/heavy usage and you cant complain about that, this is a smartphone and if people are that obsessed with battery life i suggest they use an old Nokia

Very true. I can easily get 2-3 days if I just used it for calls and text.
Heck, I can get it to last 1-2 weeks. Just put it in flight mode and don't touch it except every couple of days to check %.
Why people don't just buy spare batteries is beyond me. I bought 3 spares + a wall charger off eBay for around $10. When I'm low I just pop the used one in the charger and replace with a full one. From 0% to 100% in 30 seconds. I even leave one in the car in case. Did the same thing with the S1.
BTW, to the OP why leave it on 3G? I'm assuming you switched off H. For me I use the 2g-3g widget and select GSM only. When I need 3g/H for data I turn it on.

My 2 cents
I will tell you this. For what its worth.
I've had 4 friends get the GS2. 2 of them are white, 2 are black (the phones, not them.)
In all four cases with the stock ROM They came and complained to me how they love the phone but the battery dies before they can get home.
All four cases I've done this update for them via ODIN
- ROM Update: XWKI4 (UK XEU, android 2.3.4 to support google video chat)
- Kernel: XWKJ3 (stock)
- Modem update: XXKG5
Each and everyone has told me they're getting literally exponentially better battery life, snappier response and stable usage.
Take it for what its worth. But i recommend your combo.
I think usage pattern is definitely important but i've experienced idle drain and gone through months of struggling with this. not all roms/kernels have the idle drain issue. The above combo should work well for you. Good luck

Well there are differences in software and usage, but thats it. use a clean up to date rom, good kernel and do not install crappy apps like facebook which drain the battery. Using a modem which suits your provider does make quiete a noticeable difference, especially with hspa activated, idle aswell as using the data connection. Battery life of 12 hours or less is clearly a use or apprelated problem.

What's your battery life?

Guys, please post your battery life screenshots. Mine is fine
Dont have screenies but my SOT is 3 and half hours . Pac rom Lp 5.1 Caf D802 .
There is already a thread about battery life where users posted their screens...anyway your screen in the first post is useless to determine battery life. Dont mean to be rude but it really is useless, because if you barely use the phone, you can reach 120h+ easily. You have to give more information. Even the screen on time is not accurate to determine battery life, because there are some users who use their phone like an e-reader and get massive amounts of screen time that are impossible to reproduce when using the phone on normal conditions. Not everyone uses the phone in the same conditions. A good way to determine it would be the screenshot like you gave, another one with the apps showing consumption, another one with screen time and a screenshot of cpu spy or any other cpu measuring app(because this will make it easy to spot how those e-readers get so much sot, usually their lowest cpu frequency is used a LOT, unlike normal users)
always 6-6.5 hours sot. can hold up to 3 days or more with light usage using Cloudyg2 2.2.
Fyi, cloudy g2 is not the reason you get 6h+ sot... unless you're significantly reducing performance and/or screen brightness. No rom can beat physics(and logic).
I average 5h sot over 2-3 days with wifi/data/sync/auto brightness on. Can easily go a week in standby if check it a few times a day. Running stock sprint lollipop with latest zvi update.
Well that's depressing....I have a battery life of maybe 4 hours with 1 to 1,5 hours of screen on time........I made a post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/help/battery-messed-t3297770.
If anybody has a suggestion I would be more than pleased. Been using the phone for +2 years. And looking at the screenshots of yours, I hadn't had that in a loooongloooong time
At full charge, plugging in earphone and listening to music or videos on youtube , i get like 3 and half and sometimes 4 hours depending on the rom. Screen is set to the lowest. I dont install much app, especially which connects to the internet silently in the backgroud. Disable location services and all too helps. At idle with wifi on and phone radio is 90% or more good signals, it lasts for about 3 or 2 and half days (depends on kernel too) . What rom you using @deereper ??Have you tried reducing google service battery drain via script and all ?
deereper, and anyone else getting under 3h sot, your battery is shot. I had similar battery performance until I replaced it. In my experience custom roms/kernels may make a very minor difference but have much worse performance and stability.
Yeah, I ordered a new battery.
I really don't want to but a new phone just for the battery.
And yes, with those battery stats it doesn't matter if you run stock or aosp
It's D802 btw, auto brightness 0%, wifi data gps always on. SOT 6-6.5hours only with continuous usage, if add in standby SOT average around 4.5-5 hours

Battery life on LG G4 h815

Hi guys
I have just purchased a new LG g4 h815.
I am loving the speed, the looks and everything but I have an issue regarding battery life. I am getting a screen on time of around 2.5 hrs with moderate to heavy use, is it normal for LG g4 though to don't play any games or stuff . Previously I had used a Samsung Note 4 it had an amazing battery life, screen on time was around 3.5 to 4 hrs with moderate to heavy use.
Any suggestions to improve battery life I have turned off location services, auto sync and Bluetooth, screen brightness is @40 % but WIFI is turned on constantly
I have surfed a lots of sites and forums most of them are complaining about the battery life of this phone but still most of them are getting around 3 to 3.5 hrs of screen on time.

The only thing you can do is get back on lollipop. 6h SOT is pretty average score on lollipop

I have basically given up on this phone. Never get any updates (in Norway) and battery is very poor. The worst phone I ever had comparing battery. You should not have to turn off everything and tweak the phone and ask in forums to get good battery time. My father have a samsung brand and don't know **** about android or phones and have he's phone full of crap and never optimized it for anything and he STILL have great battery... Much better than mine. Weird right?
A thing I think, is that this phone struggle with WiFi. I have a lot of wifi disconnects and it gets very hot when it struggles with wifi. Sometimes when im at home I can have 60% left battery and not use it for a while and then suddenly have 40%...

Having just gone though the same hassles, I found the only way to get good battery life is to get the latest version of Lollipop (V10F-TWN-XX for me), root and install Greenify to hibernate hungry apps like facebook etc. I find my battery life is now better than my old G2. I get about 3+ hours SOT and lots of standby time. (Its 10:20 am right now, usage on battery is 3h 35 mins, estimated time remaining is 155 hours, 3 % use in last 3h, 28m screen on time) Previously my battery would have been on 50-60% by mid day, now its in the 90s.
I was almost ready to ditch the phone and find something else, which would have been a shame as I like this phone.
What I tried and found along the way:
- Use the battery charger that came with the phone, the charger that came with my phone had a different plug so I used another brand. This was charging my battery too fast and causing it not to hold as much charge.
- I tried almost every Marshmallow stock rom I could find. Nothing seemed to be that great with the battery.
- I disabled wifi when not in use, location bluetooth etc...went back to almost no apps just to see what was causing poor battery, but determined it wasn't anything other than the system.
Anyway, thats what worked for me. Hope that helps.
Great battery life on Genisys for BL developed by Ignacio R. No root, bloatware blocked, Hibernation Manager on board. It's not heavy used, most browser on wifi/lte, g+, youtube.

Terrible, terrible battery life

Hi,
I recently bought the Moto X Pure Edition. Overall I am very pleased with it however there is one thing that constantly bugs me. The battery life is absolutely terrible. I'd seen no mention of this before I bought the device but having bought it, I'm realizing how terrible it is. I only get around 2-2.5 hours of screen on time. This is even worse than the moto g 2014 I owned before which i could easily get 3 hours with. Are other people having similar experiences and are there any potential solutions?
Also, can you guys suggest some custom ROMs for me with great battery life and very stable? Thanks!
Try TruPureXMM, it has the best battery life among other roms, AFAIK. Well, that's because it is based on stock. Try it out for yourself.

Am on stock and battery life is terrible. Can hardly end with 3h max with a full charge. And am one of those that stops most of the moto actions, low brightness, no wi-fi all time etc but still its worst battery life I've seen on a mobile. I think it has to do with the big screen it has!

check out frankenkernel. I get 5Hrs of SoT
I have a brand-new XT 1572 (on stock) and would not call its battery life terrible. I'm getting 5 hours continuous SoT on WiFi (not sure people are using the term "SoT" consistently - if the phone is on for 24 hours, I'd expect to get less than 5 hours SoT; same when I'm on a 4G connection, particularly a bad one). Not great, but acceptable (and not unexpected in light of XT 157x reviews).
I have a shortcut to Settings - battery on my home screen which I check frequently (while I'm in the process of getting familiar with the phone), I have OS Monitor on my home screen, and I occasionally check "running services" under "Developer Options". I use Nova Launcher which makes it very easy to force-stop an app just by long-tapping it, hitting "App info" and then stopping it.
All of this has caused me to uninstall a few power-hogging apps which I probably did not need in the first place; I also find I need to occasionally force-stop apps such as Neutron.
In an average day, from 6am-10pm of mixed WiFi/LTE usage I get about 3 hours total screen on time, and the majority of the time I have good-excellect signal strength... If I have average to poor signal strength, 2-2.5 hours SOT is normal. On WiFi with continuous usage I get 4+ hours. This is normal.
Sorry, but the battery life of this phone, especially if used in bright light or outdoors, is just not good. The display is gorgeous, but it is an unbelievable battery hog.
I have tried many ROMs and all have worse batter then stock... TruPureXMM is debloated stock but the battery life isn't much different because it's the screen that takes 80-90% of the power, no rom can change that.

I don't disagree with you - I call it "acceptable", you call it "just not good". I'd stop (far) short of calling it "terrible, terrible" though - and let's face it, this is why the device sells at the price point it does - which, to me, right now, is (a) close to the limit of what I'm prepared to pay for a smartphone and (b) great value for money. I'd rather be close to a charger or battery pack (in fact, I ordered a slim battery pack when I ordered the phone) with this phone at all times than owning a different phone (in this price range) with better battery life but other challenges/compromises I need to take. This devices's predecessor (for me) was the LG G3 - same thing, except that this device actually works.

I completely agree with the above. Thats main reason I havent used a custom Rom yet and still waiting for Stock 7 realease (hopefully we see it within the next 2 months) before trying a custom rom yet.
But i wanted to ask a question about the screen taking all that ℅ in the battery drain:
I remember i read somewhere in another thread an option that changes the screen resolution to FHD 1080 instead of QHD. You think that really makes the screen battery drain lighter or it doesnt matter !?

My prior phones were an LG G2 and an LG G4 and I was thinking that my 6 month old 2015 MXPE had good battery life. I'm not sure I have ever had a phone that lasted all day. I need to stop buying sub par phones I guess. My Pixel XL (once it gets here) will hopefully fix that.
This is from stock 6.0 - May 2016 Patches - using it on Verizon network
From GSam Battery Monitor, since August 15, 2016:
Averages Per Complete Charge -
Battery Life: 1d 5.3h (8h 29m Active)
Screen On: 3h 56m (5h 11m Max)
I pretty much just charge my phone for 45 - 50 minutes a day at work and do not leave it on the charger any longer than it has to be.

I remember i read somewhere in another thread an option that changes the screen resolution to FHD 1080 instead of QHD. You think that really makes the screen battery drain lighter or it doesnt matter !?

If you read thread I believe that only worked on Lollipop... People who did it on Marshmallow claimed it made no difference.

Yea, I was trying that method on Marshmallow. No positive changes on battery life, but got negative impact on Moto Display, it was to ugly for me to use.

Eh, to each there own... My previous phone was a Moto G 2015, it easily got 5 hours SOT in a day with battery to spare, so to me the battery life on the X is poor, but not terrible... I also carry mini power stick for charging on the go, and a QC adapter.

What about it? Kernels, roms, etc, can't do anything about how much power the display uses, it's like trying to make a 100w light bulb use 40 watts... they can only effect other things like SOC, syncing, etc.

I agree here. A 5.7" screen will require more power just to light up. As far as changing resolution, you are still powering a 5.7" display. You might notice some slight difference in battery (and maybe fps) when playing games, but it is really related to going a little easier on the chips.
I'm still on true pure, not even the most recent build, and I could always get a day and a half of battery use, or at least a full day with moderate use.
Hey folks, just wanted to chime in on this. I had the phone since it's release and got around 5 to 6 hours of SoT with WiFi, GPS enabled (but not while using maps lol) and brightness set to about 50%. Battery life has gotten worse with each update and now I am waiting for Android 7 and I will reset my phone after it's installed.
Btw I disable any build in app that I don't use and uninstall apps that use to much battery in the background.
Am on Telsa 03/02 Build. And the battery life is as good as Stock. 3hrs SOT on LTE with Data ON the whole time and 4hrs SOT on WiFi. All the while keeping GPS ON High Accuracy and Ambient display.
No Greenify or any other battery booster.
The performance is better than Stock and all the features working near perfectly. It's a good choice, you get to use Nougat without really compromising the battery much.

Also I have recently changed the resolution to 1080p. It doesn't increase battery life much but definitely boosts the performance.

All I can say is, despite the battery life being poor, you have TurboPower charger which definitely saves the day. The phone charges from 10% to 100% within half n hour.
