Virgin SM-G900P.. Can it be unlocked to use on another carrier? Or Flashed? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My girlfriends S5 is done with since i bought her a S7.. Can the phone be unlocked at all to be used on other carriers or is it stuck on Virgin?

Well the sm g900p model number is the same as the sprint variant. Which can be used on a few other carriers such as t-mobile and att (3g only on att if i remember correctly). Not sure what baseband your phone has though.

T-Mobile and AT&T versions

I'm thinking of getting a 'fully unlocked' S5 from an auction site. The seller has AT&T (SMG-900A) and T-Mobile (SMG-900T) versions available. Which is best? How do they differ from the international version apart from the printed logo and some carrier specific apps? Can they both be rooted?
The T-Mobile version has more bands of LTE support in the US. I am on ATT, and I bought a T-Mobile S5 a few days ago. I am loving the phone so far, and plan on getting it fully rooted and unlocked shortly. The international version that is sold doesn't have LTE band support. Both the ATT and T-Mobile versions can be rooted.
After using the G900A with AT&T (twice lol) I decided to pick up T-Mobile's S5 last Friday. Already running a custom rom and kernel. Love it. Only wish LTE reception was better optimized for AT&T's band 17.

That's incorrect. the ATT version cannot be rooted as of right now and has a locked bootloader. Definitely go with the Tmobile version if you want rooting and flashing ROMS

[Q] ROMs that can be flashed from other carriers to Verizon Note 3?

I would like to ask if there are any ROMs in other Note 3 carrier sections (T-Mobile, AT&T, International) that can be flashed on Verizon Note 3 safely? I'm not using Verizon service. I only need the GSM service to use it internationally.

Essentially NO, because the bootloader in the Verizon N3 is locked, you can only flash Verizon based ROMs.
BUT the Verizon N3 also does GSM via Global Mode; although, you'll need a SIM from a local carrier.

My phone is working fine here in my country on the GSM/UMTS mode. I am only looking for more ROMs to flash. I don't care about CDMA or LTE. So its a no go, right?

The only ROMs you can flash are the few here in the development section. Unlike many of the other Note 3 versions, the Verizon version has a locked bootloader and to-date, no one seems to be able to unlock it.

Flashing T Mobile firmware on ATT

So I have seen multiple people here on the forum claiming to do it or wanting to do it and I am a bit confused. I have an s7 edge on contract from ATT. Can I do this? If I flash T Mobile's firmware on this does this make my phone usable with a T Mobile sim?
Thank you

Can you advise the procedure? I'm currently permanently locked to AT&T network and would like to use a carrier (SK Telecom - Korea).
Wouldn't you still need to SIM unlock your AT&T phone to use on T-mobile network? I don't think just flashing another carriers ROM will allow you to use their network. Am I Wrong in thinking this way?

I had the same question and that's why I haven't done anything on my phone so far. Also it does not help that I am a noob with all these things and dont want to mess up my phone since this is my daily driver.

Go to http://www.cellunlocker.net/ and get an unlock code for your phone. I unlocked my tmobile S7 edge this way right out of the gate worked just fine.

I am confused. Can I not flash the phone with t mob firmware without unlocking? I thought this was just a software restriction and would have been removed by flashing a new firmware.

Flashing the phones firmware will not carrier unlock the device. That is tied to the IMEI. It will boot up the Tmobile software, but it still will only work on AT&T network.
Also in order to unlock the device from AT&T they will most likely bill you for the remaining value of the device as soon as you request an unlock code. You cannot take a phone from one carrier to another unless it is fully paid off.
I have an Unlocked AT&T S7 and I can put in a T-Mobile sim and it works. So why Flash T-Mobile onto an AT&T phone if its Unlocked??? My AT&T S7 is Paid for in Full.
My question is, if you do flash T-Mobile firmware on AT&T phone will you get OTA updates off of T-Mobile, like when Nougat comes out????? Also would you still have wifi calling and get all the LTE bands of a T-Mobile phone????

Yes. All the edge models have identical hardware. Their only differentiating factor is the firmware they run. I flashed the unlocked firmware onto my AT&T model and now get updates directly from Samsung. If you flash the T-mobile firmware on the AT&T device, all features will work and updates will come from T-Mobile. Same would work if you flash the AT&T firmware onto a T-Mobile variant. Or Verizon to Sprint, Sprint to AT&T, etc.

So you are saying this about S7 Edge, does this work the same for the AT&T S7 SM-G930A? Mine is not the Factory Unlocked model but I got the unlock code from AT&T. I thought the firmware came from the carrier and not Samsung on updates on a carrier branded phone???
So if I flash T-Mobile into my AT&T S7, I can also flash it back to AT&T firmware should I go back to AT&T???
Think you are talking about flashing firmware on your that is original for the Factory Unlocked version, think its SM-G930F

Well people on the S7 edge have flashed the tmo firmware on their AT&T models. Updates come from carrier on branded phones. So if you have an AT&T phone and flash another carriers firmware, it would only be branded by the physical logo on the back. It's like buying a Windows PC and installing Linux. The updates would come from Linux, not Windows, and vice versa. You could always go back to the AT&T firmware, just make sure that both firmwares you flash are on the same bootloader version.

But I have always read that OTA updates come from Carrier not from Samsung. Thanks for the info. Maybe AT&T will be out with Nougat by Spring after S8 are out for sale.

Updates do come from the carrier. However, if you flash a different carriers firmware you will start getting updates from the new carrier.

What is the model number for the domestic ATT version? I have Samfirm looking for model SM-N986U, region ATT, and it's not finding anything.
That is because At&t doesn't post U firmware

And you just need to use one of the other carriers, like Tmobile. I just figured this out for myself, I've been bopping between this and another phone and got confused. Thanks!
