AT&T removed Whitepages feature - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

Is there anyway to turn on or get back the Whitepages features in the dialer? It seems Sprint is the only one that left it in. See the linked video if you have no idea what I'm talking about.

It's removed from system because they try to push "Caller Name ID" for 3 bucks a month on you. I'd like this functionality from whitepages too if posssible.

Download the Whitepages Caller ID & Block app from the Play Store. It integrates with the dialer to restore the missing functionality.

Any call location software in Market?

There used to be a very good application in market by the name of "Call Location". This app. used to decipher mobile or fixed line numbers to tell you location and service provider of the caller. This was pretty nifty application which now (I guess) is missing from the market. Since then I have been using "OpenAnnie Caller ID" application but looks like this application is temperamental and doesn't work half of the time.
Any other application you guys know of that provide this kind of functionality? Thanks in advance!
Peoples help.
I use an app called "City Caller ID." It only shows the location of where the number is registered. No service provider or land line/mobile line ID. But it was pulled from the market. http://phandroid.com/2010/02/23/lawsuit-city-caller-id-application-pulled-from-market

visual voicemail apk verizon note 3

I recently rooted with kingo and installed safestrap and flashed jellybeans rom for my Verizon note 3. My visual voicemail app is gone and was wondering if anyone has a link for it? I have been searching endlessly and cant find it. this rom is super sweet but I do enjoy my visual voicemail app which was said to not be removed. thanks for any help guys. (no I didn't back up my stock rom so cant get it from there)
if you have any question about the rom I flashed let me know. customization to the max!!!
I don't even have the capibilities to get Visual Voice mail.
Why would that even be possible? I have a smart phone, I want a program to manage my voice mails, not a phone system that's 100 years old.
Is there a way to get free VVM? do i just call in and enable it?
Also, idk if its just me, but I don't get actual notifications.
Facebook doesnt even tell me" You have a new notification" it just has the badge.
For EVEYR OTHER app I have no matter what it is, it just says that: "You have a new Message, Unread email, Notification" but not the content of the notification.
What am I missing here?
I though Android was better than iOS
If your gonna start saying stuff implying that ios is better without first figuring out how to work your phone then gtho and buy an iSheep

I tried it on MJ7 and it didn't function. It did install correctly, though (Hmmm. I didn't have TiBu for this device; crap I can't remember if I was able to DL it from the market or if I grabbed the .apk from a different device)
The pre-installed (Touchwiz?) Voicemail app seems to work exactly the same way - voice messages are locally cached onto your phone. (No evidence of a 3G/4G call in progress when you "listen to a voicemail".)
Hmmm. I think I am being billed by Big Red a couple bux/mo for the "privilege" of using that app. Mebbe I should call them.
beanstown106 SHOULD HAVE PROVISIONED FOR THIS!
Yeah, so now that a service I pay for is now "eliminated from the OS", and there seems to be no .apk that will be available...
what do I do?
All I want is to be able to use my VISUAL VOICEMAIL. I don't need all the other extraneous crap that comes along with Google Voice.

The pre-installed Voicemail app works identically, does it not? (I'm still on MJ7, so ymmv ?)
It looks different (clunkier), but the basic functionality is there.

lol There is no "extraneous crap" that comes along with Google voice... I've literally been using it ONLY for visual voice mail for like 4 years now, and I couldn't live without it (it's very easy to disable using it for calls or sms).
I don't know how Verizon's VVM works (it's probably crap), but the best thing about GV is that it's very neatly integrated into android. When I miss a call and get a VM, I tap on the notification and the VM plays. Easy peasy. It's also accessible directly from the call log.
Not only that, you can set it to have Google email you a transcription of every VM. It's not always 100% accurate, but if I'm in a meeting or busy, I can get the general idea of what the message is about without even putting the phone to my ear. It's indispensable and FREE. Stop being stubborn... do yourself a favor and get it.

New unlocked S7 doesn't have a voicemail app - how to get voicemail?

I just bought one of the newly released unlocked S7's. First let me say it is awesome. No bloat and numerous settings that were blocked by Verizon are available now. I popped in my sim and everything works great. The only one problem is that the voicemail app is not on the phone. When someone leaves me a message, I get some wierd cryptic text message. I can dial my own number and retrieve the messages the old fashioned way. After I delete a message, I get another cryptic text message. I assume these messages are supposed to be telling the voicemail app how many messages there are in my inbox. Does anyone know how I can either get a working Verizon voicemail app on my phone or stop these text messages at least?

That's what I thought. I tried installing a Verizon voicemail app from the Play store but it repeatedly crashes and doesn't work at all. It did not look like the standard voicemail app that is preinstalled on the Verizon branded S7. I would like to get the APK that is preinstalled and give it a try but I haven't been able to find it yet.

Are you forwarding the Verizon phone number to the google voice number ? I use Google Voice a little but I didn't think it could handle the voicemail on the carriers system.
I have also notice that the video calling option is not available in the dialer on the unlocked phone. Not a big deal to me but it is one more small sacrifice to have the unlocked phone. I haven't looked for a work-around yet.

Yes, I have it forwarding to Google voice number. You can set it up online at www.google.com/voice Also, I don't believe that Verizon Advanced Calling is available for Unlocked phones.

Thanks. I already have my google voice voicemail set up and working. I was looking for a way to get the Verizon phone number's mailbox working with visual voice mail. I had to call Verizon and have them add the "block visual voice mail" feature to my line so that I would stop getting the cryptic text messages every time I received or deleted a message. To save someone else some grief, if you do this, you must reboot your phone before the blocking system change takes effect.
I'm using the old fashioned voice mail service now on my Verizon number. It is tedious but I don't get many messages so I can live with it. My battery life seems to be slightly better on this phone than my old Verizon branded S7. My wife inherited the old S7 when the unlocked version was released. Well played Samsung.

After doing this, do you get any sort of notification when you have new voice mails?
I didn't mind the cryptic texts (in fact, I was able to determine what much of what it meant), but at least those texts let me know I had a new message. But recently they seem to have stopped, so now I get no notification I have a new voice mail

Yes, I get the typical voicemail icon up in the notification bar. My dialer has the number one key set to long-press speeddial my voicemail and enter my password for me. This way it is not much of an inconvenience not having VVM.

When you setup google voice correctly by forwarding your carrier number to google voice you will get it all in one place. It sounds like you setup Gvoice incorrectly. Don't use the setup from the app, use the setup on the website it will guide you in doing the phone code you have to enter to forward your number.

I'm a little confused here. Are you porting your phone number from Verizon to Google Voice, or just forwarding your voicemail to Google Voice?

The way I was able to get google voicemail to work was go into settings, phone, call forwarding, turn on call forwarding, unanswered calls and then put my google voice number there.
Isn't there some setting that can be used to enable it? I was using Lineage 14.1 on my HTC One m7 right before buying my 930u, and that had visual voicemail built into it that worked out of the box with Verizon.

I was able to pull the APK from my friend's Verzion S7, but when I try to install it fails saying a package already exists with that name. I can't find the package on my phone though. The package name is "com.samsung.vvm" according to pm on the device. I pulled it using these instructions.

HELP - Block private/unknown calls

Hi,
is there a way to Block private/unknown calls on stock rom?? Tryed bunch of apps and not working..
any help?
thanks
Truecaller works pretty well
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.truecaller&hl=en_US
Also Calls Blacklist - Call Blocker works well too.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vladlee.easyblacklist&hl=en_US
Both give you the option to automatically block private/unknown numbers. They also give you the option to block a number series (ex. Block numbers that start with 1877)
@ ogkillergreen,
i have tryed truecaller and calls blacklist but they aren't working prorperly..
TRuecaller never blocked a private call... the call blacklist blocks on the begining but then stops to block..
any ideas or solution?
thanks

Typically (at least for the "calls blacklist" app) the app asks if you want to set up the app as your "default phone" app. If you choose not to do this, then it will not "intercept" any call blocking you have configured. Check to see in your apps, which is the default "phone". If its still your actual "phone" app, then these apps will not be able to block anything.
I actually use Hiya, costs $2.99/month for Android users. (Works on iOS as well). It can do a ton of stuff you are looking for.

In the app i'm using, it initially didn't block either.... coz i missed a few steps (I'm using the app i mentioned in my earlier post, "calls blacklist"). I loaded the app, and turned on the "calls" (I didn't enable sms). Then, i figured out, i had to hit that little "down arrow" on the right, and actually select "private" and "unknown" numbers. Mine has been blocking ever since.
I block unwanted numbers in the dialer itself,,, I have google dialer installed and don't know if OOS dialer has the same options as the google dialer.
This is what i do ,,,,,, Go to dialer settings in settings you see blocked numbers and caller id and spam.
In blocked numbers you can block the spamcaller.
in Caller Id and spam suspected spamcalls.

Samsung S10+ Verizon, how do I get caller ID?

I have an unlocked Samsung s10+ and I am using prepaid verizon. How do I get caller ID on the Samsung S10? It was stated that Samsung has their own version of caller id but I cannot enable it?
I am trying to get some form of caller id because I get many spam calls a day so I would like to filter it out. Prior to this when I was on the Pixel and Oneplus they both have great caller IDS.

Verizon's app uses CallKit framework for it's caller-id and blocking which also powers Hiya. Actually, all the caller id apps from Verizon, AT&T, etc use a form of Hiya.
