Energy saving mode and non-stock alarms - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hello,
I have activated energy saving mode on my phone and I have also installed Alarm Clock Plus from the play store. I noticed that when the energy saving mode is on the alarm rings whenever it wants to but always after the set time. Sometimes it rings 5 minutes later and some others 20 minutes later. The stock alarm works correctly.
On my Xperia Z2 there was an exception list that you could use to add apps that would be excluded but I dont seem to find it on S7 Edge.
As long as I deactivate the energy saving mode, then the alarm works correctly. Any ideas for a solution? Thanks in advance

There is a setting under Battery. You can choose applications to not be included in energy saving features.
If you don't mind me asking, why don't you just plug your phone in at night and you won't need energy saving mode.
By the way, I've been using Alarm Clock Extreme for 3 years and it's never failed to go off. Plus the option for solving math problems to dismiss is great. It keeps me from turning the alarm off while I'm still half asleep.

Thanks for your answer. Indeed that was the case. I missed that "Information" button a bit lower. I tried it and it now works correctly.
Coming from an exceptional device (battery-wise) as the Z2, I was used to not charge my phone for 2-3 nights so I want to see if I can do something similar on this one as well. Been using ACP since the LG Optimus 3D era back in 2008 so I am used to it. It also offers math problems and thats what I'm using . That said I'm open to suggestions so I might try ACE as well.

Alarms not going off - 8525 WM6/WM5

Hey all,
I have had this problem sometimes in WM5, but now it seems to happen all the time in WM6. If I set an alarm (doesnt matter if all 3 are set, or 1 is set for 1 day..i have tried all the combos - used to work perfectly with all 3 set before.)
so...If i set the alarm...it won't go off until I hit power on the phone, and then 2 seconds later my alarm goes off. That doesnt help me when I have to wake up at 8 AM, and finally wake up at 9 , power on my phone, and get an alarm for 8 AM 1 hour later. Does anyone seem to know what the issue might be or how to correct it?
I have htc plus! installed , htc tweak, and vista dialer. I think the first thing ill try to do would be get rid of plus. Let me know if you have any ideas.
thanks!
Tom
a little update.
Happened again this morning. As soon as i turned the phone on, i went into pocket mechanic and saw that the cpu was at 100%, so maybe thats why its not setting the alarm off. I need to download a program that shows processes and cpu cycles now. but i seem to think its my email...when i do check messages it goes up to 100%....odd right!
just as an update for anyone having a similar issue. It was fixed by removing my SD card. I think my card is bad or my phone doesnt like it. Everything was getting corrupted also.

Alarm when turned off???

Hello all!
I wonder if its possible to have an alarm on the phone when turned of. Ive searched everywhere for some answers.
I want to shut down the phone at nights and I want the phone to start up and wake me up hehe
I just tried it 2 times , and it doesn't seem to work with klaxon.
Sorry mate i think you should keep it on if you don't want to be late tomorow
Its hilarious that a phone this new doesnt support that kind of alarm. All of my other phones works that way....
It's not a phone, it's a smartphone, pretty much a small PC...
So if you poweroff your desktop, usually not much it can do
That's the same, workaround is to use PlaneMode (along WirelessTime freeware in example)
This way, it wont be off at all..
Like for PDA, you usually never power off this kind of system. You put it in standby mode instead (either automatically or manually)
And the alarm works well with the HD is in stanby mode. It will wake up and ring.
Note that the usual phone are in some kind of standby mode, not fully powered off otherwise the alarm wouldn't work either !
you can switch off the phone part in standby mode and it will give you busy signal though reminders and alarms will work.

Why alarm doesn't wake me up if Xperia is off?

Hello! I'm new but I have a big problem. In the enening when I go to bed I often turn off my Experia so I'm not interrupted at night and I can save my baterry. But the problem is that alarm in the morning doesn't want to ring and doesn't want to turn Xperia on back. I found recently the page on the web where somenoe said that it needs to be doen some hidden tweaks so that the WM doesn't try to look how full the baterry is before it sturts up. I can't find that page on the web again so can someone help me with this settings?
Than you.
use flight mode.
x1 cant wake up when off
I don't think any Windows Mobile phone is capable of waking itself up when it's powered down.
you probably use just as much power turning the phone on as you would have used leaving it in stand by..... just sayin'
OK, so I have tried flight mode and it works but anyway does anyone know the hidden settings to change verifiing battery from wm before it turns on again?
Oh, and another problem on my Xperia. I noticed that when I don't use it the screen (backlight) aproximetely every once in 2 minutes turns on again (my power settings are: turn backlight off after 30 sec, standby mode after 1 minute). I think that why battery last only 3 days. Can anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks.

Change your configuration : Settings / system/ ilumination (check here the items you have enable or disable "enable ilumination".
Well basically, your device is off when you turn turn off the screen.
Not quite. You can always leave a lot of applications running with the screen off.
So what kind of setting to save as much as it can for battery or what kind of app du you recomend?
First, as someone already said, a WM device can not turn itself on when powered down.
To conserve battery... well just make sure no CPU intensive apps are running in the background, wifi, BT, data connection are off and use auto backlight setting.
Most smartphones don't turn themselves on for alarm (WM, UIQ Symbian, S60 Symbians), but i can't tell for all (iPhone does as i've heard, no idea about Android).
PDA is not Mobile Phone.
It has operation system etc.
To run PDA you need about 1 minute for loading all components of OS.
To run Mobile Phone Alarm needs no load components of OS, just display and sound.
In PDA sound can be played with help of driver and so on.
In Mobile Phone just tiny assembler program and clock-chip.
I know my alarm worked before with Touch-It rom. But since I flashed with WM6.5 and my alarm doesn't go off when the screen is off. There's no way around this?
I can't trust the alarm at all, it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Same on stock rom and 6.5. G-alarm is much better though..
Are you talking about turning the phone off completely,or turning off to the standby stage ? If you use the standby stage, it works fine, and hardly uses any power in this mode.

Screensaver that powers off screen but leaves device running?

Hi,
I've searched for several hours now in these forums and on Google, with no success.
I need an app that leaves the device switched on, but powers off the screen.
In settings/power I can dim the screen, but there is no setting to dim it completely or just switch it off.
I've found screensavers that can show a blank screen, but the screen is still actually powered up, just showing a black image presumably.
I've found apps that can switch off the screen. But you have to manually click on them to switch off the screen.
Does anyone know of a screensaver that after a set interval will leave the device running, but power off the screen please?
Suspend is no good, the device must be up and running apps.
Thanks for your help.

What apps are you trying to "keep running"? The only thing that might be an issue when the screen goes into it's normal sleep mode is that audio will stop outputting, and wifi connections will suspend, but there's cabs available here to easily get around both of those (and keep them going even when the screen shuts off).
Well, it's actually to solve another long-running problem that has made me almost lose the will to live....
Alarms don't go off reliably on my TP2.
Sometimes, randomly, the alarm doesn't go off until I press the power button to wake it up. The the alarm instantly goes off. So, if I set an alarm for 6am, sometimes the phone wakes up and the alarm sounds, sometimes not. And if I switch the phone on manually sometime later, at 6:15 say, the 6am alarm sounds then.
It will work fine for a few days, then fail.
It happened on WM6.1 and still continues after upgrading to WM6.5.
I have spent countless hours googling and searching XDA-Dev. I have tried probably ten different alarm apps, with no luck. I have hard-reset various times. I have tried various recommended registry tweaks. I've tried checking the notification queue regularly for any errors. I've tried so many different suggestions, for example, never pressing the power button to turn the phone off, only ever let it hibernate automatically. Warm-resetting it each day. And the list goes on.
So, I'm experimenting with just leaving the phone on forever. But turning the screen off at night to save power / not shorten the life of the screen hardware.
Which leads me to the question about screensavers which actually power off the screen automatically after a set delay. Just like a normal screensaver on a PC.
It's hard to easily convey the frustration I have for the TP2. An excellent phone. But a phone which I can't trust to do the simplest thing: to wake me up in the morning?
It'll end up in the bin at some point very soon now.....
A suggestion
Hi,
In my opinion there must be an application, change or customisation that is leading you to those problems. My suggestion is, to perform a sync towards any computer or server to keep your contacts, then, hard reset and keep the phone with the factory defaults for a while. Then, test the phone's alarms and if all is okay, add one by one your applications and changes, testing the alarms in between. Please do that on the official ROM (whatever 6.5 or 6.1) but official one. You will flash if needed later on.
I know it will be a pain, but you will find the problem.
I am using a TP2 with stock WM6.5 ROM. I have not had yet any issue with the alarms. However, I remember to have had those kind of problems before with WM 5.0 and 6.1. There were always related to freeware applications, customisations, no official ROMs, registry hacks and restored backups done from older builds upon upgrade. The alarm bug in old WM version was also known, but I have not experienced it on newer versions.
There can be some issues with the notification database by times, but as said above, it is almost every time due to customisations.
I am not saying that we should keep our phones without applications, third party software, cooked ROMs, customisation etc. But the goal is to find out what is the reason, and believe me. It is the best if not only way.
If you post the list of applications and hacks that you have in your phone, I can try to see if there is any I could identify like guilty one, based on my own experience.
Complementary, I recommend you to install and use these two applications in attachment. They have worked for me on WM5, 6, 6.1 and 6.5 so far. They are freeware and therefore you can use them without problems.
Good luck!
Thanks for taking the time to reply. All very good advice. I'll have a go when I've got some free time again. In the meantime, has anyone come across a screensaver that actually powers off the screen please?
Thanks again.

do you turn your ringer to silent or vibrate when you go to bed? if so,
go to start/settings/clocks&alarms/more and make sure that the "sound alarms box" is checked. this will make sure that even if your phone ringers/alerts are off, your alarm will ring. also, if you charge your phone while you sleep, go to the backlight settings and uncheck the "turn screen off on ac power" box. if you cant sleep with the phone light on, set it to max dim on ac power and flip it over. i always had this issue when i had the tmobile wing.

S2U2 on this forum.
try g alarm.it worked perfect for me with tilt
I have similar Issues with my TP2;
I notice that it is more to do with HIBERNATING than screen off.
My TP2 has go to the point where allowing it to go to hibernation means Screen of Death.
Overnight I charge it and do not let the screen go off and it seems ok (so far).
Guess I will have to Hard reset and test my freeware.
Cheers
G
I had the exact same problem. When the phone goes to sleep, it is ASLEEP. I didn't use the alarm too much but the phone would never notify me when SMS arrived. I'd hit the power switch to check, and bam, three messages arrive at once, some from hours ago. Immensely frustrating, but the problem went away when I installed Energy rom.

Alarms Broken?

So I have been using Timely for quite a while on my HTC One m7 and Nexus 5, but ever since I started using my Nexus 6P as my daily phone, I have noticed that the alarm is hit or miss. I tried the suggestions from here, but that does not seem to have made much of a difference. I have also tried going to the stock Clock app, it seems to be a bit better, but not by much.
What I have been noticing is that the alarm I have set for 5:30AM it will either go off or it will just not go off at all and I will get a notification that the alarm was missed at 5:30AM. If the alarm does go off, I usually hit snooze and just lay in bed until it goes off again checking email or something on my tablet (so the phone should still be locked). When I realize that I have been awake longer than 10 minutes, I look at my phone and there is a notification that the alarm for 5:30AM was missed... So it realized the alarm should have went off, but didn't.
I also have 2 later alarms (9:35AM and 10:20AM) and both of them are still in Timely and they work just fine, so maybe there is something with the deep sleep in Marshmallow?
I am running the stock image, updated to 6.0.1 via OTA, no root, no custom kernel, nothing that IMO should be affecting the operation of this type of stuff.
Just wondering if anybody else is having similar issues or if somebody can recommend an alarm app that is not suffering from this issue.
It seems that any alarm other than stock has issues. I see the post you referenced mentioned adding exceptions for those apps to prevent battery optimization. Did you try that with no luck? I don't know if there has been much luck other than just using the stock alarm if you really need to depend on it to wake up for work or other important events. I have never had stock alarm not go off, but I don't use any other apps.

I did try turning off optimizations for Timely, that did not seem to help much. The funny thing is that the stock alarm is also having similar issues, so either I am that heavy of a sleeper or maybe I just need to try flashing the factory image back to it, which, like I mentioned, I do not think I did anything to cause this type of issue, but it is an OS after all, so who knows what could anger it.
I did just tonight try setting the auto dismissal time to Never as well as maxing out the volume (it was down by about 10%), so maybe that will wake me up.
I'll see what happens tomorrow morning and will report my findings a little later. In the mean time, if anybody can think of something that I could try, it would be greatly appreciated, although a restore is not the end of the world, I would like it if I didn't have to spend the time restoring the apps and accounts and what not.
Does this apply to you?

Like Red said, you need to have an alarm set first. AND... Any automatic "do no disturb" settings like, "every day from xx : xx to xx : xx" will override the "do not disturb until next alarm". So if you have the phone automatically do not disturb until 8am every day, but you need to wake up at 6am and set the do not disturb to until next alarm before your usual rules kick in... at 6am, do not disturb will not automatically turn off with the alarm. It'll stay on until 8am. Just FYI.

I'm on 6.0.1 stock and I use Timely, have no issues at all...
For what it is worth, after I set it that the Stock Clock Alarm Never gets dismissed and made sure the alarm volume was set to 100%, it has been going off like... umm, clock work. I tried doing Timely last night and made sure I had another alarm setup just in case, I noticed the Stock Clock alarm went off on the other device, but my 6P with Timely, did not go off.
I'm just going to give up on Timely for now, maybe they will release an update and I will give that a shot, but for now, Stock it is.
The new doze mode will impact any alarms apps that are not updated for android M to use GCS etc. that's why your alarms are not firing.
For now you have to use the stock google alarm which correctly works with doze mode.
