Came here to ask the same. I'm afraid of it ruining FoxFi tethering. Can anyone that's taken the update confirm it works still?

I took it, FoxFi still works :good: Odd thing is that the security patch is dated Feb 1...I thought this was going to get us March
Maybe someone can post their "about" screens and we can compare...may have gotten a new kernel or something.

Thanks! Yeah just looked at mine (pre-update) and the security patch says February 1st as well. Well good thing they locked our bootloader to keep us safe /s.

FoxFi continues to work fine after latest update: VZW GS7E

Anybody know exactly what it did?

This is what the Verizon page says...very useful, not.
I'm very conflicted emotionally about this, on the one hand I'm frustrated that I don't know what this update did and on the other hand I'm overjoyed that after a week I already have an update to a Verizon Samsung phone....meanwhile my galaxy S6 hasn't received an update since November LOL.

It seems like it is just a security patch

Hoping the same. Battery drain has been driving me crazy.

I'd like a damn fix for downloading pdfs on chrome from my school's page, moodle. Samsung rep said he had no idea why it doesn't work, even after a factory reset. I'll try this now, knowing it probably isn't the fix I'm looking for.

Any chance of someone injecting root into the update, or is it to early?
Trying to decide whether to push it off or just grab it. I got the update notification on my s7 edge my wife has had nothing on her s7.

Security update without the most recent security patch even though Verizon says "The current software update gives you the most up to date Android™ security patch on your device.". Lame. They probably found a root exploit and closed it.

What browser? I have no problem downloading PDFs with Chrome.

Android System usage seems to be way less after this update. As of typing this its 12%, instead of mid 20's to mid 30's.

I'm using chrome. I was at bestbuy and my phone wouldn't download the PDFs, we did a factory reset and it worked. The next day it did not.
I went back in and the Samsung rep said sorry I don't know what's wrong. We downloaded different apps to open PDF, but chrome defaulted to its file viewer and said can not open PDF. But it works fine on opera. I'm going to go in tomorrow, and if it doesn't work in going to keep swapping phones until they figure it out. It's annoying and it seems to be a chrome issue with Adobe and chrome pulling plugs, but idk. I don't think the rep should back away from the issue.

No such luck for me, if anything it seems higher.
I had never seen 30% but that's what I'm looking at now.

Mine was up around that before the update, then a couple hours after it dropped to 10 to 12. Stayed there the rest of the day. Will be keeping an eye on it tomorrow to see how it is off a full charge.

I noticed that my phone goes into doze mode better. When I would take the phone if the charger at 100% and let it sit I would not enter doze mode. The battery would lose some percentage points instead of staying at 100%. This morning I took the phone if the charging pad at 7am and checked the phone at 8:15 am and it was still at 100%.

AT&T Note 8 Question

I currently have the wi-fi Note 8.0 and love it. I would like to get the AT&T model but is it rooted yet and does the multi-window option work? Finally is the AT&T note stuff here or is there another area to look for? Hopefully these questions don't sound to dumb.

Rooted Yet - No
MultiWindow - Yes
This is it for AT&T Note 8 LTE SGH-I467
I'm sure that it will be rooted soon. (I Hope). I got one a week ago and love it. I only want root so I can install Titanium Backup. Custom Roms are nice, but I just want to be able to debloat and have a good backup
since this is a question, you should have posted it in Q&A....

I agree, I should have caught that.
The AT&T model is not rooted yet. The multiwindow feature works great. There is no specific forum for the AT&T model so we discuss it here. I highly recommend picking it up if you can. I'm absolutely in love with mine. It'll be even more awesome once they get it upgraded to Android 4.2.
I too purchased the AT&T Note 8. On the morning it became available actually. I too love the Note 8 and highly recommend it. Especially so with the bundle deal that brings the price down to $199.
That said I have found a few issues that are in need of fixing. Firstly, of course, is the ability to root so one can use Titanium Backup to debloat. But also many have found that the screen freezes momentarily randomly. If you want to use it to play games you will be disappointed. Also, every time you power up (boot up) the current version of the software resets all factory defaults so that 3rd. party keyboards for example are deselected and you have to manually select them as default. I personally have also found that the Samsung calendar as well as google calendar doesn't automatically sync with your Samsung and/or your Google accounts, you have to do this manually as well.
these are all reasons that I bought the wifi version; we already have root, there are custom roms/kernels, custom recovery, and since there is wifi almost everywhere, and where there isn't, I can tether to my Note2, I didnt see any reason to give ATT another dime of my $$$$
hope you guys get root/custom recovery soon, because a tweaked, debloated,OC'd Note 8.0 is nothing but fun!

I hear you. However, some of us who were buying new phones anyway the AT&T bundle deal pricing of $199 for the Note 8 as opposed to the $499 retail made sense. Yes, I would liked to have root already but I will live with the wait in light of the initial cost savings. Now when can I get a Note 3????
not sure where you heard the wifi was 499; I got mine for 350 at Best buy, and I think there are places selling at 325...
but yeah, 199 is a nice price....
Note 3 is a ways away, i think!
I'm sure you'll have root soon; maybe send a pm to Chainfire, and see if he is working on it yet...

I also find that Chrome has problems. I don't know if it's a Chrome issue or a ROM issue but Chrome seems to not get click placement right when tapping on the screen, especially when using the pen. You have to tap below a link to get it to actually fire. Very annoying. Even with the brand new Chrome 28 release a day ago, it still does this. I'm using the stock browser until this gets resolved.

Is almost certainly a Chrome issue. Chrome 26 works fine. The problem was introduced in Chrome 27. I'm sure it'll get fixed eventually. In the meantime I'm just using the stock browser. I didn't see it as a big enough issue to do something drastic like taking it back.

Last night's update of Chrome Beta (their second patch for this issue) fixed the problem for me. It will likely be a number of weeks before the patch makes it to the stable Chrome release.

Okay, I thought I was either drunk or crazy. I swore Chrome was registering wrong clicks and it would eventually just stop with the input all together. What a terrible bug - I too was forced to use the stock browser. Glad it's fixed in the latest release. Let's hope that makes it into the Play store sooner rather than later.

Gmail app not pushing

Got my new verizon s7 sat. I can't get Gmail to push new emails, it only works if I open the app and manually refresh. I have tried wiping cache and data for the app, ensured that the sync Gmail in settings >accounts is on.... which it seems to get hung up there occasionally, I see the circle but it isn't spinning. I have turned on all the settings in the app too

As far as I have seen, this problem has been around since January sometime. No it has not been fixed though according to this article they know what the issue is. I don't know what they are waiting for to fix this. I have heard Inbox is working better. You can look into that if its urgent enough.

Well it appears to be working again, I cracked my screen already on my phone, so I got a new one through insurance. Anyone take the update from T-mobile on 5/4/2016?

I am hesitate to update the phone, but do not know how to get rid of the notification. How is the post performance after the update? Would this make it harder to Devs to work on unlocking bootloader?
No noticable difference. Seems like the battery is lasting longer, but this is just taking off the charger at 7am this morning to 1130am right now, and with normal email/text and streaming music, with all on push, I am at 91%.
Oddly, it feels a little snappier. not sure on the bootloader tho. Honestly, I am so dependent on SP, that I have not rooted the S7e or the S6e. Love that feature enough to deal with other cons.

Same here. Use SP almost everywhere.
Battery seems worse for me. Couldn't care less about Samsung pay. It did enable FM radio.

No problems so far, battery seems about the same. You have to download a FM radio app of your choice from the play store to get FM and use your wired headphones for the antenna.
Battery was worse and phone started heating up very quickly after the update. Quick clearing of the cache partition in recovery seems to have done the trick though.
Anyone using the adb mod to enable internal storage and accepted an OTA? Does the update revert the mod or mess up an SD card setup as internal storage in any way?

I am able to unlock screen with fingerprint after update. Qurious thing was if I used a screen off app, I would have to enter the pin to unlock. If the screen times out or if I manually lock the screen with the power button, it will accept my fingerprint to unlock. Fingerprint also working with Samsung Pay.
I just updated but dont see the FM radio app. how do you access it?

Never updating
I took it (without root, I've kind of surrendered and decided to see what a mindless conformist feels like :/). I gotta say, it has dramatically improved battery while inactive. I had misplaced it yesterday morning and when I found it in the late afternoon, it has only used 1% of the battery (at 99%). That's the second time I've noticed it.
I have to enter my pin after a reboot, but my print works fine after the initial entry, same as before the update.

Software Version: MMB29M.N910VVRU2CPF3

Not sure what you mean by "safe" but typically you just use Odin to flash full stock 5.1.1, do a factory reset in stock recovery afterwards and you're done.

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews of Google Fi. Which phone are you going to go with? I've thought about replacing my Note 4 DE with the Moto X Pure when they run it on sale again (was $319 a few days ago). But the Droid Z Force also looks nice.

Not really the place to discuss it so I'll keep it brief.
My girlfriend has a Nexus 5X. The phone is amazing, updates are quick and common. It operates perfectly on marshmallow with no noticeable issues. We live in bum**** and she still gets service wifi calling and texting is fine, and no contracts. We pay about 42 a month for hers with insurance.
Well one thing I noticed (not sure if it was this update or the last one) is that when you pick an application to use (like browser) it becomes the default. With the old OS it would ask you to use just once or make it the default. Arrgggg I prefer to pick the application as needed and not make it the actual default.

The MM update made this change to default app handling. I liked the old way too. Now if I want to change the default app I have to remember which app was set as default before I can make the change. Sometimes remembering which app was set as default isn't easy to do.
Deleted. Think was in wrong thread.
Been a long time sense I've posted anything in this forum.
I just went back to the Note 4 and did the MM update and have noticed a heavy draw on the battery compared to LP. Am wondering if letting it did cycle through a few time might correct the battery drain. Was on an iPhone for awhile, but for personal reasons came back android. Has anybody tried that yet. Have been temped to hard reset and start fresh to see if it fixes it.
This update has increased the battery draw on mine and it is running HOT! Need help.

Wonder what's in it besides security fixes?
Its about 353.7mb,but for some reason it wont download. Its downloading, just needed a restart
One thing i can tell you is that the upgrading has changed, instead of the green android showing up when its installing, its now a multi colored circle. When phone restarts from install, the final upgrade look has changed as well

I don't think I have gottin the Amazon crash with the newest update but I well could have I have just came to except it. :/ Before the newest update it seemed to happen most for me right after plugging in the charger. And also I have all the Amazon crap disabled so it's rather odd.
Got update notification, anyone installed yet?
Any released note for it?
