Software update introduced a new battery hog - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

I just noticed this after I did the T-Mobile update this morning. Mind you I fully recharged and reset the phone after the update. This package was never there before and now it's there sitting in the background draining the battery.

It was there before I had it before update

its an app tmobile uses to track data usage and monitor your usage/whatever is on the device. freeze it with package disabler pro if you can!

I just did. I guess it just wasn't using as much power before the update.

for me, this ap has always been a hog - was on my Note 5 and S6 too - Being on ATT I froze ANYTHING to do with TMOBILE and saw a pretty nice improvement to battery - still, I would like better - if only we could root - oh if only -

I don't think it was anything serious. Just a modem update.
Baseband changed from G935TUVU1APB6 to G935TUVU1APB8. That's all I can see.
I snapped screenshots of before the update and after.

Indeed. Sometimes the modem updates come with two files. One for LTE and the other one for the standard modem? I dunno. Unless someone captures the update file (if it haven't happened already) it's hard to tell for sure.

OTA update issues

so i did get the update and dont know what is going on with the update. i get now horrible low download speed, most of the time the phone is on edge after the update before the update i had the H almost all the time on the same location. this is reason why im posting this from my laptop and not my G2 since it takes minutes to load a thread. so the question is what did it do to my device?
i manualy updated my phone and i do get H in my house now and full bars where i only had 2, one thing i did notice is that i know get g or no sign @ all from time to time, doesnt seem to effect my reseption thou. didn't see any diffrence on download speed, didnt get better or worse

well it sounds to me like you got the opposite of what the OTA was supposed to so, it was to improve the reboots bug and radio updates for better cell reception, the only thing I can think of is backup your data and run a factory reset on your phone and see if that brings things back to normal or improves anything, best of luck.

I'm glad I'm not the same.. I do notice some signal getting worst after the OTA before I was getting FULL bars at home and now its jumping from edge to 2 bar on H..
Anyone noticing horrible battery life after the OTA? I used to be able to go an entire day with normal use and still be around 40-50% when I plugged it in at night, It's been un-plugged for ~ 5 hours today and is already at 46%
Hmmm I didnt get the update or any notification of one. Can some1 tell me how I can get it?

Strange, I'm seeing the opposite. Since the update, I'm playing with it more and it seems the battery lasts twice as long.
I haven't even gotten it OTA yet, phone says system is up to date when in fact it isn't. Going to wait a bit longer, if I don't get it I'll install it manually.

Just FYI, I haven't re-rooted since OTA so no overclock or anything. Running bone stock.
Well I downloaded the ota myself, and in terms of reboots, I have had none that I didn't cause myself. I am still running oc @ 1.44 and very smoothly ( I think these phones were meant to run oc'd).
The only issue that I have had is that my screen does not rotate unless I open the keyboard...a bit annoying actually. Oh I also notoced that my location for

MX battery life?

Hi! I got my MX couple of months ago, and I can tell I love it. Anyways the only things I wasnt happy with were the battery life and reception, and so I updated my phone's flyme os yesterday. (from 1.0.3 to 1.1.1)
I assumed the update would fix the issues ( as I think it did for the reception ) but the battery seems to be even more horrible after the update.
It seems that after the update my MX didnt even completely charge up. I put my phone on the charger at around 2:30 and unplugged it at 13:30, so it was on power for about 11 hours, but it didnt even charge itself completely in addition to the fact that it stopped actually charging at around 8 o clock as we can clearly see from the "today" screenshot.
Then comparing it to the "yesterday" screenshot with 1.0.3 we can tell it charged itself up completely.
Ive got the new 2core model with the updated 1700 mah battery (which should have the best battery life of all of the mx models) and this makes me wonder what is the battery like on the other mx's if this is normal. And yes my phone was showing the charging animation on the screen during the time I mentioned earlier in the message.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try this right away. Flyme will backup all data, right?
Except apps. If you have it enabled.
1.0.3 here, quad core model, my battery is fine, gets me over a day with normal use.
However I admit that it could be better.
Its also well known that 1.1.1 contained a bug that ate battery, so stay away from that firmware.
I didn't test 1.1.3 yet.

My MX arrives this week and I'll be measuring the battery carefully to see if I can't find a replacement. (Yes, I realize it's not supposed to be "user replaceable", but the teardowns confirm that it is if you've got the patience and dedication. Here's hoping there is a higher-capacity battery in the same form factor.) Apps are nice, but more juice is better.

1.1.5 is out, do you think I should try that? Theres no thing mentioned about battery in the changelog but there's some magic in updates sometimes, isn't there?
Hehe that's true. I use 1.1.5 and it feels pretty good.
1.1.5 is nice, however there is a bug in android terminal emulator.
The osk wont work until you change the input type setting to word based.
I also suggest prerooting the image, Ubuntu works nicely on it too.

Yeah I heard about that bug, but that's an easy fix isn't that Also never ran into the need of terminal on my MX.
There was someone on meizume forums telling he could upload a prerooted image of 1.1.5, and as I have 0 experience on how to preroot the file I wish he could do that. You see I'm a newbie - don't just tell me to do things, please tell me HOW to do the things aswell ^^,
Kedros uploaded one already. You can just fetch his.
Battery is 71mm x 35mm x Unknown Depth. If I can find a few batteries matching the length-width, I can start trying to transplant them into my MX quad core.
Please keep us updated on that.
I would love to stick a higher capacity battery in there.

Something in PL6 draining the battery??

PL6 installed on my phone this morning, and ever since I've had a mysterious battery drain. Even when on a Samsung fast charger, it drains faster than it can charge. The last time this happened, it was an Oculus GearVR update that caused it[1]. Anybody know what it is this time?

Also i notice some laggy too . Not just battery drain
Sent from my SM-G935P using XDA Free mobile app
Gets laggy, and bad battery life for me also. Sometimes it gets to the point it is unusable, even after shutdown and clear cache. Seems that if you reboot because of lag, you can't use it right away otherwise the lagginess continues. I have a Ventra app for monthly train ticket on my device and there is some security, and purchased tickets are stored locally. I guess I'll have to wait to do a reset when my monthly ticket expires. I thought this update was for Nougat, otherwise I wouldn't have updated. Anybody hear if this version is rootable? So far it seems not from what I've read.
My battery drain issues continue. I got a new message today though ... phone got so hot that I got the popup saying that only calls and messaging would function because of the temperature. This phone is a POS.

Debating to factory reset due to sub-par battery life after updating to 7.0

I've been debating if I should do a factory reset because since updating to 7.0 the battery life hasn't been as good as it should be. So I'm wondering what the community thinks I should do and getting everything back is a pain in the ass. Battery life hasn't been the best since 6.0 when it was using the february security patch and I can't even go back down to that.
Has anyone had better battery life after factory resetting?

I prefer BK Disabler, the color codes used by PDP for the different types of packages is not as good as the tabbed view used by BK Disabler. At least for me.
Edit: another advantage of BKD is you can disable unnecessary services too.

What software version is everyone on my battery life has gone terrible, should I factory reset to improve it ??

I did a factory reset with wiping all cash twice and it didn't help. The battery life stayed as horrible as it was after the update.
Want to mention that i didn't disable any app when using my phone on Android 6.0.1. I had AOT turned on and my battery could handle up to 1.5 - 2 days. Now it's less than a day :/
Also, I wonder, if Samsung reduced the phone's battery life after the Note 7 problems (I've read couple of articles that they were planning to reduce it from 3600mAh to 3000mAh). Does anyone have any correct information about that ?
Thanks.

What did you restore to your phone after you did a factory reset?
If your battery life was bad, is either because you restore apps from either smartswitch or a backup, or because of the proximity sensor bug. Otherwise battery life should be good, unless you have apps that are draining a lot of battery. I had 10h SoT on my exynos variant and battery was not charged to 100 was at 94%. I will suggest you to look a the battery optimisation guide here, and also the exynos battery life thread.
