T-mobile S7 software update - Samsung Galaxy S7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Just got a notification to update my S7. Should I take it? Anyone know what it's for specifically?

Baseband, build number and kernel have different numbers than before... I screen shot about device before and after to compare.

Generic_HK R2BA024 whats different in it and what improvements are there?

hey there guys, i upgraded from Telenor WWE_R2BA02 to Generic_HK R2BA024, just wondering what the differences are, ive noticed there is now a dedicated app installation application, system seems more responsive. Has anybody else flashed this firmware and what are your thoughts on it, Thanks people
^I just realised your from Birmingham too... lol.!! Neighbour!!
Anyhow.. i just flashed the baseband from 24 to my rooted 23 and to be honest, ive not noticed much difference.. but that could be me as im always tampering with the phone one way or another so ive never really gave it a chance to show any differences.
wow cool lol, i havent gone and rooted mine yet, but 23 bought slight improvements nyway so i think il just with what ive got. Thanks for your help mate
I've asked about this in the themes and apps section, but I'll just ask again here since no one was able to help. Could anyone share the Youku app that is bundled with the new HK firmware? I uninstalled it by mistake. An apk would be much appreciated!

Android Central hmzzz don't believe everything they are saying.
They also said you loose image quality /features in the camera if you unlock the bootloader which isn't true.
Notice any differences in how it operates? No notice of any available update on my device as of yet...

Some users on their forum also says that. ATT got it 2 days before and we are getting it to.
I hope they move dual window back to back button. Thats all i need.
I have a H815. So i don't think I will receive an update then

Pretty sure its true, but ATT's was only like 25mb
What I don't understand as an EU G4 user.
Why does T-mobile provide an update? Is it an update on their software? Or is LG involved?
Are there specific T-mobile apps on it?
I got the update this morning. To answer a couple of questions: No, no new apps. Dual window is still in the same place.
I dont notice anything right offhand different, but I havent done much with my phone yet this morning. Heres a capture of my info:

You're kidding - I always thought they knew what they were talking about. Where did they say that?

T-Mobile (as well as most carriers) ship out the updates after they've approved the changes. I would imagine this is to ensure that nothing being updated will affected their carrier's included Spam (I mean added software) or network connectivity. Last thing they want is their stores or customer service lines inundated with "help! The update broke my cellular connection!" claims.

If you do notice anything of real substance, please post it so that we can know. For now, I think I will avoid connecting to WiFi until I know what this update actually does. I've never been a fan of generic changelogs...
But then it's a little bit strange that the international version. Hasn't got the update.
So you could assume it has to do with their spam apps.
Maybe it fixes the touchscreen issue. I haven't gotten an update yet, and I've switched back to my S5 for now.

Could have to do with any number of kernel/lib/framework related items specific to carrier. Could be cellular radio related, WiFi related (wifi calling has been weird on my phone...doesn't want to seem to connect but I have awesome reception where I live, so I don't need it), etc...
Has your version had any updates in last week or two? If so, it might just be that the carriers are just now approving that update and pushing out to the devices.

That is true for certain phones. Like the Sony phones.
Sweet. Pretty quick imo. Look forward to seeing if it fixes some small issues I've been having (touch/tap misses and knock settings). I know knock settings are a longshot, but it would be nice to be able to configure them to each persons liking. I'd love to be able to turn off the "drag one finger down to quick view the clock/status"
I got my update overnight.
Phone updated without any warning or notice when I woke up this morning. CHecked the software version and it was the new one.
I havent noticed any differences as of yet.
Actually I just looked at my phone and already running version h I wonder if from the factory there were two different images

No I haven't got any updates on my version (H815).
Got the update and my phone starting shaking and jumping around on my desk. When the update was complete it turned into a Galaxy S6
Since they are already working on root and unlock I wouldn't take the ota just yet. Ive got a replacement on the way so once I get the update I'll take it on the one I'm returning and see if any changes. Ill also do a system dump on the new version too if necessary.

Why no weather update on the lock screen? I liked how it changed the scenery and according to what the weather was like at the current time.
Settings>Wallpaper>Lock Screen. No live weather to choose after update.
Any CSC can update to this Rom (I have ZTO)?
N915TUVU2CPE3 = official baseband
N915TUVU2DPE3 is what is offered here ....
I plugged in a USB OTG drive and it causes crashes after less than 1 minute. I spoke with a t mobile tech and he stated that the baseband version is unsupported by them. Said something about it belonging mostly to the note 5.
Looking for an official N915TUVU2CPE3 build if anyone can find it please let me know!! By comment or by message
Thanks

My OTA update gave me DPE3.
Thanks man, it's strange they're saying that this baseband has no support (because the T-Mobile page has a typ-o) I tried calling and pointing that out but the tech person seemed confused and didn't really know what to say or do when I told her to escalate it to someone who could figure out what was going on there with the web-page.

Yeah must be some clueless people that answer troubleshooting stuff as opposed to questions like yours.
But yes, I'm not sure what your problem is or why you nned support in the first place (when you have google ) but that baseband is what I got OTA and I am 99% happy with it

[Q] Latest Update Phone freezes

Hi All
I did the latest Samsung update for my S7 edge 3 days ago.
I'm now getting very poor battery life. Full charge down empty before the day is out.
The phone occasionally freezes, at this time it gets warm, and the battery drain increases a huge amount. It does this maybe twice a day.
About ready to conact Samsung about it, but thought id see if anybody has had similar issues.
S7 Edge on Vodephone, Not rooted, running Nova launcher.
As I say it worked fine up till the update
Thanks Steve
What is your current firmware version ? This is the most important thing to post when asking something like this and actually expecting an answer.

I'm feeling a bit like a Noob, after coming from years of HTC and rooting etc.
But where do I find the firmware number. I'm currently looking in to rooting this phone. BUt still learning and reading through stuff
Steve
firmware number

I'm having the same problem
Hi, I'm also having this problem since updating my phone on September 24. The phone freezes on the "always on" display, or the screen just stays black. I never had this problem before and have had this phone for months. I'm posting so you know this is not an isolated problem.
Samsung Galaxy S7, Android version 6.0.1. I don't know what else you need. Thanks.

Question about s8 active

I'm looking to buy an s8 phone. The active seems really nice to me as I hate the regular s8 display and prefer the flat display of the active. My Question is whether or not I can root the active using the regular s8 method. There seems to be very little info about this phone unless I'm just not looking in the right place. I'm not really sure how similar these phones are on the hardware and software side.
Honestly, the S8 active is the first phone I've had that I haven't really felt a NEED to root. Theming is there, (specialized substratum version for Samsung), can be mostly debloated via adb, battery life is amazing out of the box. There is a thread for some small mods to remove things like the carrier label in the status bar add well.
But, like you've said, there isn't a lot of info on it in the regular S8 forums. I've wondered the same things, but haven't found d any definitive answers yet. Hardware wise, I belive they are nearly identical, aside from the display being flat and not curved. No curved screen, so the screen edge specific apps and functions aren't there either. Battery has a higher capacity, 4000mah opposed to 3000mah for regular s8, I get average of 9hr SoT with average use.
The hardware is identical inside unless you count the screen, of which I prefer the Active's screen personally. I got mine a week ago and love it. It's rugged without looking like a tank I've managed to knock it off my work table twice already to a cement floor which is about 3 feet with not a single mark left on it.
The huge battery is great and lasts more than a full day with constant usage(music/reddit/games) which is a big plus.
I would like to see the dev community pick it up but like rjyoung00 said, you almost don't even need to root the thing.
there are plenty of software reasons to root despite the hardware being great. Im in the same boat as OP, I got the S6 active day one expecting a root since the S6 had one but it was released with an update that made it unrootable. Now I don't want to be in the same boat
galaxy s8 active has almost perfect hardware and absolutely awful software, (Samsung stop already put your trashy software from your devs with broken hands, why the f... is it so hard to put AOSP with root at least as an option !! )
I cannot live without unlocked bootloader, root, AOSP, xposed. This is the major reason I am still using my Nexus 6.
Really hope that devs will find the way to get all necessary software otherwise this beautiful phone is dead.
My question is can you flash the unlocked firmware on it like the others. Would love to know if anyone would try. I'd like to use it on vzw.

I'd try if I could get a copy of the original firmware.

I don't think it's possible to brick using odin, and locked bootloader. If it goes wrong, just flash original firmware, to get going again. But don't trust me. Do some research. And best not to try without having original firmware.
Duplicate Post
Broke down and purchased stock G892A firmware so I could mess around in ODIN, couldn't get any of the ulocked or carrier G950U files to flash (firmware, eng boot, combo) using standard or modded ODIN.
Uploaded the stock firmware to my drive and shared in another thread so others could mess around too. [emoji41]

All versions of the g950u and g950u1 firmware are on sammobile. In fact there is an XAA branded firmware which has 0 carrier bloat

If you read the words above my post, you'll see that we were talking about the S8 Active (G892A) which the firmware is not posted for on SamMobile, therefore had to be purchased from GSMFirmwares.
From another thread:

Youre right, I said that the g950u files wouldn't successfully flash on the g892a, which was the original question.
Also, someone else suggested not trying it until the g892a files were available. So I mentioned that I bought those files and made them available.
