Auto Brightness Slider and toggle is wonky.... - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

Anyone else having issues with the brightness bar and Auto brightness toggle box?
At night I usually set my brightness to a low setting but noticed that the Auto brightness stays checked. On my S6, when I adjust the brightness using the bar, the Auto brightness toggle box becomes unchecked automatically.
On the S7 edge, I find that I need to uncheck the box and check it back in order to re-enable Auto Brightness.

For me although I can slide the brightness bar according to my preference, auto brightness kicks in when it senses ambient light change. It works as it should for me.

I don't think it's a bug. Just a different implementation of auto brightness

Mine seems to work like garbage

Guess will need to get used to that. I just felt that the way this was implemented with the S6 made sense.

Yeah I'm really not sure what they tried to do. Don't like it that much.

Lux will solve all you issues.

It's the same way my Tab S2 works, guess it's Samsung's new way.

It's supposed to learn over time how you like the brightness under conditions.. That's why it stays ticked, it's learning just how bright you like the screen

Or so I've been told

It's not a glitch.. The phone is still in auto brightness.. It's just learning what you like under that ligh condition and will use it next time your in that same scenario. It's actually a pretty cool feature.. That way you don't have to disable auto brightness because of the one time it's no to your liking then forget to put it back and waste unnecessary battery

Good to know. Thanks everybody

Does your notification bar

Control your brightness when you slide your fingers across the top of it from left to right?
Mine does and I'm not sure if it did the first few days or even if it is supposed to....
Thanks
It only does it if auto brightness is off.

I was just gonna post I found that out too.. Thanks now I know my device isnt defective...
Holy crap, that's awesome! Finding out new cool **** with this phone everyday!
Cool. Nice find with that one. I just use the power settings widget to switch between the set brightness levels (keeping it on the lowest setting).
This was a thread in the Galaxy S forum and I tested it to make sure it worked on mine a few hours ago
Great find, thanks.
I am getting use to touch wiz. I don't know why people don't like tw. It has some good feature s.

Wow, that's seriously awesome. Now I have no need for the automatic brightness, which always seems to keep the screen darker than I'd like.
This is pure awesomeness now that I know about this! I had just added the Power Control Widget so I could turn brightness up/down whenever I needed to. This is much, much easier and what I wanted since I can control everything else from the notifications already and faster.
My screen has randomly brightened or dimmed and I didn't know why. This explains a lot.

Same here. All of a sudden it would be to the lowest brightness level then it'd be the highest and I'd be so confused on why it kept changing.
@sl8125: People didn't like TouchWiz because the previous version of TouchWiz was awful.

Brightness adjust

On my 200 year old Samsung Epic and apparently up until the S2, you were able to adjust the brightness manually (if automatic brightness was off) by sliding your finger along the status bar (without dropping it down).
It seems that for some unknown reason, they removed it on the S3 (WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY). I was wondering if they re-enabled it on the Note 2??
I'm not sure I understand because you can adjust the brightness in the notification bar .

That is what I meant. Sorry for calling it the wrong term. Long night.
Wonder why they disabled that on the S3.
It still doesn't work, but it has been added to the notification pull down. Also, you can now adjust the level of auto brightness by leaving Auto checked and moving the brightness slider as desired. There's also apps in the Play Store that allow the functionality you are looking for. Display brightness is one that works well.
I know what you mean. In the s2 you could slide your hand on the notification bar without pulling down the shade. Now it's gone.

yeh good feature but like i remember it was removed even from s2 with ICS updates.
Cyanogenmod has this feature.

Screen brightness

I have issues with the brightness constantly changing. It is extremely annoying. I believe I have all the settings to where it shouldn't change. Its on full brightness, dynamic and unchecked where it will adapt. It is extremely noticeable on light pages like the web or Tapatalk. This is my 3rd Samsung never had issues before. Thanks for reading

Turn off auto adjust screen tone in settings>display?
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda premium
Already did thanks. There are 3 settings that affect the screen I think. Its driving me crazy
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, it's a phone wide thing that isn't affected by settings. Happen to me when I switch over to Chrome from a different white display. The whites change, even if every other setting is constant.
Basically, it's a known issue with no way to change it at the moment. Not sure if it continues in AOSP.

[Q] Auto-Brightness Confusion

Can someone please explain how the auto-brightness works on this phone it seems to act a lot weirder than my galaxy nexus did. What does it mean when it talks about setting the baseline brightness and in what context? Do you use it? If so what brightness do you have it set to?
This phone has the worst auto-brightness of any device I've used.
I need to read the manual. I'm assuming the baseline is the minimum brightness, but it never seems to change when expected.
I chose to use a 3rd party app to manage it. Lux auto brightness works really well, and you can calibrate it any way you'd like.

I have mine set to 40% on auto. I found the best way to decide the minimum brightness was to set it at a comfortable level in a dark environment.
To test this, set up your minimum brightness, then point the screen (ambient light sensor) at a light source, keep your eye on the screen and it'll gradually brighten. I've found mine to work pretty well and rarely have to manually override it, but the change is a lot slower than my note 2.

Get lux lite from the play store. It works great
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk 4
Comfortable in a dark room for me is about 5%, unfortunately even in the brightest of sun it seems like the phone never turns its brightness up at all when on auto like this. Anything less than 50% seems to break auto brightness for my device and that is just sad. Even when it works when set above 50%, it takes 5 seconds or so to adjust which is just terrible and the brightness seems to still act funny about how and when it decides to change. It really is the worst auto brightness ever.
Whoops!

Thanks for the recommendation guys that app seems to work sooooo much better than the stock auto brightness so far. The stock auto-brightness is garbage on this phone. Seems like the stock setting either doesn't get bright enough or doesn't get dark enough.
I don't agree, either I have a working phone or others are broke, but this is the best autobright performing phone I've every used, after the hd2, galaxy nexus, note 1 and note 2. Its perfect according to the ambient light situation and is really fast acting

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. If you have auto brightness unchecked your screen will won't automatically change based on your surrounding illumination. If you do check it-it should brighten when in direct light and dim in the dark. So are you're saying it isn't changing brightness based on surrounding light correctly (when checked) or you're expecting it to change brightness not checked?

If you have the screen mode to adaptive display , that might be the cause of it. Go to settings/display/screen mode.
