Persistent SD Card Notification FIX - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Quite a few people who purchased the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are having issues with the SD card notification that will not go away, or will come back every reboot.
I was having the same problem, then I remembered the "OK Google" notification from android wear watches.
Follow along here.
This was a notification that people could not get rid of, it just sat there every time they turned the watches on.
Then people realised that it started disappearing on its own.
Then we realised that it was set to appear until you used it so much, sort of like a reminder that it was there and then it would disappear.
Finally people realised if you just woke the watch up and said ok google a few times it would go away for good.
Still with me?
If so you might know what I am saying already.
If you use the SD card for a while the notification will go away and not come back.
I took about 20 pictures with the camera set to store pictures on the SD card and it went away.
My wife took a 20 second video and hers went away.
TLDR, Use the SD card, the notification is just a reminder that it is there and available.

I have been heavily using my S7 edge camera for taking photos of cherry blossoms and the recurring notification is still popping up. I think I caught it in the act for the first time today and it actually did say "ejecting SD card" and then it remounted. I've tried re-seating the card a few times but no luck. It's not that big of a deal but it makes me wonder if the tray is defective. I'm using an EVO 32GB card from Samsung. For me there appears to be no rhyme or reason as to when the notification pops up. Sometimes I come back to the phone after it's been sitting still for a few hours and the notification is there. Other times I'll shut the screen off and then go back to check it 2 or 3 minutes later and it's there. Other times it doesn't show up for a few hours.

I'm getting transferring media from sd card on every reboot and it won't go away til I swipe it.... Shouldn't be transferring on every reboot.... If you card is mounting and unmounting it could be a sign of a faulty sd card or might not be in there correctly..... I would try a different card just to make sure your device is not the problem.....

I think it's a design flaw, because I was only getting the message when rebooting and last night my wife threw the TV remote and landed on my phone and I think the shock made the message appear immediately, so I'm thinking thebfkimsy tray isn't seating the SD card as stable as it should be, just my two cents

I would of freaked out if a remote hit my phone... Usually really OCD about my phones for the first week or two.... Nice to have the SD card back though from last year.... didnt Know how much I missed it on the S6

Heck yea I freaked!! My wife instantly got scared cause she knows how ocd I am about my phone's lmao, but no harm no foul

Please note that this can go away for a few days but will come back. No matter what you do (hard reset = I did 8 times), 2 micro SD, one Sandish and one Samsung = same problem. Unfortunately, it is a hardware issue. If I were you, I would protect my phone with a case and screen protector (to ensure to keep full warranty of the device) and wait a few months to get a phone from a new batch. I have a friend who works at Samsung Canada and he anonymously told me that this is a known issue by Samsung who will not admit it and they will still sale the batch that was previously build with this issue. Once they get new batch, this will be fixed. Also, my assumption is that the issue will get worse overtime (sun, cold, bending, pockets, etc). Good luck.

Get a replacement from your provider. Your case is the worst. Mine did this one night we were listening music and watching pictures at the same time. For like 3 hours, I rebooted my phone 15 times. It seems that the more you access it (music /pictures /app to SD at the same time, the more demanding you go on your SD, the more crash happens.

Can all of you download the app "phone info samsung". It will tell you the date it was manufactured and also the place. Mine is 2016/01/11 from Vietnam. Can you post on here? Those who dont have the issue, please also do so and post on here. It may be that the first batch was badly made and/or the place it was made from. Please post. I am currently discussing this with Samsung Canada directly.

If you can swipe it away and it does not come back until you reboot the phone, it is fine.
The problem units are giving this notification constantly.

Made in Vietnam
Manufacturing Date: 3/3/2016
G935FD (Dual Sim modal but I am using single sim and sd card)
Not a single issue with sd card being ejected intermittently. I only get the notification on every restart. And had went over 12 days without any restart nor issue with sd card.

I had the 'disappearing sd' issue (SM-G935A), got on chat with my provider and complained and they had me a warranty replacement shipped same-day.
My original device was built 2016.02.18 and the replacement was built 2016.03.12, both in Korea.
Now to see if the replacement has the same issue or not, if it does I'll do the same thing at the beginning of next month.

Vietnam, March 10. 935F, no issues, just get the notification after a reboot.

I just got my second s7 edge sd820 and it was a new shipment that just came in and I dont have the sdcard issue like my first one, it was made in Korea also palm rejection is amazingly better in this new one for some reason before I had to hold the phone so precisley not to touch the edges at all but this one I hold it whichever way and it always registers my touches

No issues with SD card - Samsung Evo Class 10 64GB.
However, my wife's phone appear to be suffering with an issue. I will get her information on this when I am able.

Constant somewhat sd notification, meaning sometimes not for hours and sometimes within minutes.

- SM-G935F (Vietnam) (Gold)
- 2016.03.15
I get the notification after each reboot, but I just dismiss it with a swipe, and that's it. It has never spontaneously popped up without any reason. I did buy a new SD card when I got the phone last week though. I have a 64GB Sony UHS-1 High Speed 70 MB/s card.
So to make it short: No issue.

How reliable is the G1? Any crashes?

Hi,
just wondering how reliable the G1 is in day to day use?
Are there any crashes which happen even if you have no 3rd party apps installed?
Do you ever have to pull the battery out to reset it? If so on average how often?
thanks
Mike
ive never had to pull the battery on my phone to reset it *forget how many times i have on my old shadow*
the phone itself has never crashed for me, only apps themselves have. recently my camera and any app involving it has been force quitting on me..not sure why exactly. maybe due to some of the stuff i have on it along with apps moved to the SDcard..
the phone itself seems very reliable....as long as you have a charger nearby for constant use =)
Not a problem so far for me, i have been using it for at least 1 week with a few third party programmes installed, except for force close and wait for the process thingy. The battery is just a bit weak, if normal use would last me at least two days, heavy use will require you to charge it within one day.
Mine has been crashing a couple times a day now, if I do anything other than make phone calls with it.
Personally, I think it's the lame memory management it has. Really bad IMO.
Also, takes forever to get the card out of locked mode when answering a phone call. Half the times, by the time the phone is unlocked, I've missed the call. Very annoying
Maybe because I moved the apps and cache to an ext2 partition on my class 4 SD card.
I'm getting a class 6. We'll see what happens then.
From my experience it is a lot more stable then WM 6.1 Even if you do have a problem, the OS almost always still runs and you can close out of the program. The only time I reboot my phone is when I do an update or install a new theme.

??? Hit the green answer button? It works for incoming calls even when the phone is locked.
Not sure about the rest, mine has not crashed on me in the few weeks I have owned it. It has actually been fairly reliable. I have not moved cache or apps to the SD Card though.
As mentioned by others; some apps do crash, but it's all happens pretty graciously with littler or no affect on the OS. I have never had the phone (OS) hang and/or require a reboot since I got my Dream in January. Not once. And I play around with it quite a lot. Compared to WinMo and Symbian (and even the iPhone OS) Android itself is extremely reliable.

A friend of mine had almost the exact same issues, and he too had moved apps/cache to the SD card. He got a new SD card and haven't had a problem since. Just a funky SD card issue. Hopefully a new SD card will sort your problems out too.
I've had maybe one or 2 instances that required a reboot since pre-release. The G1 has been THE most stable smart phone I've ever owned.

Not sure what you mean by that. My phone rings, caller ID comes up, I hit the green button and answer it.
Oh the other hand... there's a weird problem with notifications. Sometimes they just don't work. I will get a number of emails without any sound or vibrate notifications. LED flashes, top bar has email icon but no sound or vibe. Works fine after reboot though and does not happen too often, may be once a week or so. Started happening after I installed "lock 2.o", continued to happen after I unistalled it.
Otherwise, no problem at all.
i havent had any problems with mine yet, ive rooted it and everything also. Had it since the beginning of october. The battery life when i first got it wasnt great probably 16 hours or so but since then its gotten better longest i went was about 36 hours and i got the 5% warning. I'm writing this from it right now.
app force closures yes but no restarts
i doesnt have a little reset button for a reason

I've noticed this happens more often than not when the email is part of a GMail conversation or thread. Almost never happens with the initial email.

What kind of Wing do you have??? When you get a phone call nomatter what ur doing, or if the phone is locked the caller id comes up and u can just answer or ignore, the only time u have to unlock it is if u wanna do smthing else while your on the phone, like text. Back on topic, only apps usually crash, not the phone itself, so its pretty reliable, besides the battery.

Soft reset, repeating txt message

Hi guys, I got a little problem on my hands. Ive had the HD2 for several months now, absolutely love the phone. I have a problem as to when I do a soft reset for my phone, or any time my phone is turned back on, I get two new txt messages. Problem is, is that the messages are not new at all, one is from 129 which I read on here is from visual voice mail, not that big of a deal for me. But the second message I always get, was the last txt from my ex girlfriend, about 2 months ago, which to say the least almost got me kicked in the gonads this morning when my current girlfriend turned on my phone. I did a search and got nothing on this, anyone ever experience this issue? Or is this some black magic voodoo from my ex trying to give me a headache?
I get this on my tmobile hd2 also, it has a little sim card icon next to it, So what I usually do is click and hold the text and select move to phone. Then ill click and hold and delete it. Sometimes it works but i cant seem to get the 129 to go away. it usually only pops up when i hard reset.
Have the same problem, any resolve?
seen this myself, but strangely only once, and that was after dozens of flashes where it didnt happen (although they were custom roms, so maybe had 'show sim messages' turned off, whereas teh time it happened was when i flashed back to stock, where it no doubt isn't turned off.)
Just one txt, about 4 mnths old, that was on my sim card. I put my sim in an old (simple) phone and deleted it from there.
Heh the same in my case. I resolved this yesterday, when i remove SIM card and plug it to my old Nokia N82, enter to SIM Messages and delete it.
Now when i have my SIM card in HD2 back, after SR i don't having this pissing off fake new messages.

x10 restarting alot

im sry for posting another topic, went through all other topics and none helped me, my x10 has been rebooting randomly alot, never did when i first got it
it restarts when im using edge while browsing the internet, restarts sometimes during games, restarts when calling someone and ALOT when i use it when its plugged
i tried so far flashing it from SEUS, removing apps, playing around with settings
its a problem so big for me im concidering changing phones, and returning the x10 to a shop or sending it for warranty arnt options for me
I think it's the phone running out of Ram because your having too much stuff open

no, usually happens after it just booted while doing a random action
Probably time to back up your apps and wipe things out. Also, defrag your SD card because a few times mine became amazingly fragmented.
You could back track and try figuring out what app or what change had caused this but for the same amount of effort you can start fresh. I routinely wipe things out. I do it partially because if you only do a few reformats every now and again it becomes a daunting, intimidating task where you fear losing important info, etc.. just my two cents.
Mine is doing it too, while I have almost no extra applications installed and I don't use timescape and very rarely mediascape.
Just laying on my desk when suddenly the display lights up and the phone says simcard locked (asking for my pincode).
Happens approx. once every 1-2 days, and sometimes a short time after I reboot.
I never noticed it in the almost 6 months I have this phone, until I plugged in a new simcard with the pincode request active
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Reseating the SIM and SD card can definitely help too. But I've personally used the same SIM cards for years without challenges on the network or with my phones. Sometimes you get a dud or some dust in there.
I like using Hot Reboot to reboot my phone from time to time as well. I don't do it too often because I like to see how long my battery lasts, but it helps out a ton. Much better than killing tasks. I only do that before putting my phone to sleep for a long time, just in case some stray apps don't close or trick WiFi into staying on, etc.
My phone seems to be rebooting much more when I plug in to charge (while on the phone or having the earphones plugged in) . . . Its really annoying. Last night just trying to talk to my girlfriend it rebooted about.. 7 times? Less than 30 minutes. That is very frustrating. . I'll go home later and try to defrag the card and maybe the sim and such. I'll see what happens.. if it keeps up I might just have to go back to the storm1 until 2.1 comes out. Hopefully that'll fix this rebooting problem..

same here, its a perfect phone i and i dnt mind anything in it but the reboot problem, cuz i already have a couple of deals lined up to sell it and if the prob isnt fixed any time soon im gonna take the plunge and sell it
it is a hardware failure. If you smell the back (behind the cover) u smell something burning. it will hapen more often and than you have to take it to a repair center where they can fix it under warrenty. They are repairing mine right now.....
I have same issue in HK & got replace mainboard but still got error restart.
Finally they change a new X10i to me beside they need me keep my old back cover!
My friend has got the same issue and the phone was sent back with the same problem again. In return we sent it back again to sony and we received a new phone
I wonder if the restarting could be related to wifi,
I didn't enable the wifi for about 2 weeks now and it didn't reboot once.
Just leaving 3g network on for the moment.
get your x10 replaced with its motherboard. i had to threaten legal action just to get the restart loop fixed.
its a very common problem with a faulty batch or with the phone itself. you can check all the complaints here

m8 i had exactly the same problem first the restart was just randomly and then the START became random i mean when i boot my phone it restarted itself over and over again so i turn it off and leave it to rest then when i switch it on again i was able to use it about 30 min and then the restarting session comes back again and i wasnt even able to log in to Android OS . The device just reached Sonny Ericsson logo and restart .SO i gave it back to the shop i bought it from and after few days they gave me new one coz it was some hardware issue they couldnt fix that was the only way to repair it for me.
P.s. 1st i bought black xperia but they gave me white cant be more happy coz i wanted white when i first went to the shop but they ware all sold ..
I think it happens when the phone gets too hot. check the back of your phone and feel it it is overly warm, I know my phone has rebooted sometimes when I have been doing cpu intensive tasks and multitasking or using the gps for a while. This happened with my g1 as well.
Are you using a Task Killer? If so, do NOT kill the Backup and Restore application on the phone and see if that resolves your problem.
I know it sounds strange, but I was having a similar issue where my phone would randonly restarted. It only started to happen after I did a firmware upgrade that installed the Backup and Restore feature (I'm on Rogers). Once I stopped killing the app, my problems stopped.
For mine it was GPS. Disabling GPS stops rebooting the phone.
bad chipset... return to se.
Before I tried all the other MODs, especially Froyo ROMs, everything works fine.
After trying and flashing and downloading and ... my GPS will now work for nearly 30 mins or equal to kilometers driven and then reboots or GPS signal lost
It needs to cool down or the timeframe will be shorter just after the reboot. To turn GPS on/off will not work.
I tried everything in any possible combination:with and without backcover; car charger; Navigon, MAPs; reflashed back to 2.1 Stock; formatting SDCard; changed SDCard - problem remains
I wouldn't say that it's the cover will be hot..yes warm, but that's all.
My problem is, that there is a little crack on the touchscreen on the upper left side, so I guess SE will not replace my generic full-paid handset.
I still have this problem lately, and it is right out of warranty, so i am stuck with this phone.
I check with robbers (rogers) if i can get another phone cheaper... heck they are selling me old smart phones more expensive then the market.
I think i am through with Sony ericsson, phone is nice but their choice of manufacturers are horrible.
Seriously, Sony deserve to be hacked and deserve to lose billions.

[Q] Do I have a faulty phone or is this just normal

I just got my G2 delivery from Verizon and have been playing around with it for about an hour or so. I have the preinstalled sim card pulled out because I need my other phone as my daily use phone for the time being until I have time to transfer things to the new phone. So for now i'm just using wifi to play with the G2. It came with the OTA update 24A already on it so I guess i'm up to date.
So far the phone seems to work great except for two odd problems that I can't seem to resolve even with two factory resets. Just wanted to see if anyone has any answers, if I have a faulty phone or if this is just how things work with this phone. Both problems happen on a reboot of the phone.
1.) I set my brightness level manual 50% and my screen timeout to 30 seconds but everytime the phone reboots, it resets the brightness level to 100% and the screen timeout back to the default 1 minute setting. If I make the changes again and reboot the phone, it resets things again back to default. Is this a software glitch? Does this happen to everyone? Or do I have a problem that requires me to return the phone for a new one. I guess I could live with it, but i'd rather not have to.
2.) This one is really odd. The first time I turned on the phone or did the factory resets, I had a notification in the drop down list that I needed to accept LG user agreements. I did so and the notification went away. When I restart the phone, the user agreement notification pops up again, but this time it doesn't ask me to accept anything. I just need to clear the notification from the drop down list. How on earth am I supposed to get this to go away completely.
I haven't rooted it yet because I might need to return it so I am completely stock at the moment. The only thing that I don't have is the sim card installed, but I can't imagine that not having the sim card plugged in would cause these two problems. Does anyone have any possible reasons for these two problems or should I just return the phone to Verizon for a new one?
Thanks for any suggestions....
EDIT: Did a little research and found a post on the AndroidCentral forum that my brightness problem may indeed be the result of having the sim card pulled. I have to wonder if it is also the reason for my user agreement problem, but won't know for sure until I can put the sim card from my old phone in the new phone. For now I will take a wait and see approach. Feel free to delete this thread if need be.

Phone Reset In Pocket

So I was doing cardio at the gym with my rooted verizon s5 in my pocket. It was only for about 30 minutes and I checked my phone before I started. Once I finished, I checked my phone, only to see the set-up menu asking me what language I wanted, gmail account, etc. I have a lock screen on my phone, so I don't see how it could have pressed the right buttons to reset in my pocket even of the phone was turned on somehow. I had quite a few hours customizing it, so I'm pretty pissed. I did do a back-up and according to root checker I still have root access, so I guess I'll just do that even though the back-up is like a month old. I'm just wondering what the hell happened, and more importantly, how I prevent it in the future. I was getting constant requests for updates and security reports, but always dismissed them because I was told that was normal. Thanks in advance and let me know if you need anymore info.

I restarted mine the other day pulling it out of my pocket. I thought that was odd...
Samsung pocket reset explained. ****ED ME OVER
So about 3 months ago i was playing ultimate Frisbee on a school trip with some friends with my S5 in my pocket. After about 30 minutes of play i heard my phone making a strange noise. I pulled it out and realized i was operating in Chinese on a screen that was seemingly a setup screen. All my phone data had been lost due to a factory reset. I was pissed but it wasn't that big of a deal because i had gotten the phone a week earlier. So I reinstalled the few apps I had, re downloaded my contacts, and didn't look into to it much. But today, four months later, I was doing the same exact thing, playing ultimate Frisbee with some friends, and it happened again. But this time I had a 32 GB SD card in that was nearly full of important pictures, videos, files, folders, documents and schoolwork. What I now know is those retards at Samsung made it so the phone thinks the SD card is part of the phone AND IT PERMANENTLY FORMATTED IT. I was am and still livid that those ****tards have no way to fix this problem what so ever. The phone has a defense mechanism that resets the phone after too many incorrect password attempts and the phone against my leg in my pocket did the ****ing trick! Me - "So there is no way to recover the data?" Dumb Samsung ****head - "No its a permanent reset that protects the phone from intruders". How Stupid do you have to be to create something like that, that can be triggered by so many other means than an intruder, AND HAVE NO WAY TO FIX IT. I am now ****ED by Samsung and never purchasing a phone from them again. DON'T BUY SAMSUNG THEY ARE ****. And don't buy Apple either because they are WORSE. Hopefully this helps someone hate Samsung a little more because I'm SCREWED.
