I'm considering buying Nexus 4 and after reading various reviews and user opinions my only concern is - how is the battery life?
Some are saying it's great, others are saying it's crap... See me confused.
I've got no intention of using it for watching movies or heavy gaming, but would still like it to last me at least whole day without charging (24 hrs).
Currently, my SGS2 lasts from 1,5-2 days without charging (I'm using JuiceDefender).
Can anyone comment on the subject, especially compared to SGS2?
I had a galaxy s2 before the nexus. Compared to my s2 the nexus pisses through power mainly on WiFi and surfing the web. Location services and google now use battery a lot too + overnight i loose more power compared to thr s2. I'm hoping its software related and Google improve battery in updates to JB.
I don't believe those who say the battery is great for one minute.
Pretty damn good so far for me my SGS2 would be dead in half the time, even with the screen off!

Depending on the apps you use, battery drain can be a huge downer for this phone. I use eBuddies for aim chats at work and that thing drains through, so does GChat. Navigation apps such as Google Maps or Navigon also burn battery like there's no tomorrow.
So the question of battery life really is dependent on your daily needs. The difference with other phones is that some have removable batteries.
Expect to invest in a mobile recharger, or to have spare charge cables always on hand with this phone.
I don't do much with my N4 during the day and came over from an SGS2. SGS2 by far outperforms the N4 on battery life from my experiences.
It seems the N4 has fantastic idle battery drain. I let it sit a full 7 hours over night and lost 3% battery, but it seems when you're actually using the phone, the battery is middle of the road. I'd say its still better than my S2 and as good, or slightly better than my S3. :good:
I had the note 3 the battery was terrible and i really thought we'd be getting atleast 4000mah as some websites stated but 3220mah aren't you guys concern? Seems like a joke to me.

This video shows that the Galaxy S5 with Snapdragon 805 and QHD Display doesn't use more battery than the "old" Galaxy S5. So Samsung seems to have found good ways for battery saving.
I am not concern. I plan to get 2 extra battery and a external charger. The Note 3 version was like $30. Whick brand is good? Anker?

You would be correct. The Note 3 Battery life was pretty damn good. I never had issues with it, and if you look over the N3 forum you'll see some pretty outstanding results :good:
I expect the N4 to have been tweaked a little and the battery to be either on par or at least very very similar to the N3.

The Note 3 was widely regarded as having some of the best battery life for any phone of that time.
If anything wall hugging iphone users have something to be worried about with their copycat device, "Retina HD" welcome to 2012 Apple and the battery size, hardly a mention because we KNOW its smaller than Samsungs.
My note 3 has pretty decent battery life. Just make sure to disable a bunch of stuff that you don't need for best results.

since 4.4.2 update WiFi battery usage increased. so i got battery drain...
But i change setting to turn off WiFi when screen off and Battery Life became normal
On Note 4 they claimed for more optimization for power + UltraPower Saving mode...
so we have to wait for reviews and our experiences...

Even though I was disappointed they didn't include a bigger battery, I'm not concerned about battery usage on Note 4. I don't think they would've made a big deal about battery usage the and better performance on the Note 4, if they didn't have something to back that up. It would've been much simpler to not mention the 7% improvement, or just say they increased the battery by 20mAh. I'm expecting a somewhat better performance compared to the Note 3, which is fine.

The battery is still bigger than the iphone 6+'s and you can always swap it out and with quick charge feature 0-50% in 30 minutes, how long does an iphone take?
It's not how big the battery is, but how it's used. I have Note 3 and I saw as much as 40% drain overnight, when phone was not used at all, right after updating to KitKat and I also managed to have as little as 1% drain overnight, after killing some of bloatware. I can't pinpoint anything in particular, but it could be more than one program. Right now for example Google search is draining my battery more than all other programs combined and I'm not doing anything with the phone at all. I don't want to kill it, since I use it sometimes, but if it keeps doing it I may have no choice. Anyhow if Note 3 is working properly it can have fantastic battery life.
According to what I read so far Note 4 screen should be something like 14% more efficient than older version, despite having higher resolution, CPU and rest of hardware should be at last as good as older models and there should be ultra power saving mode, so I wouldn't worry about power that much, unless some program or programs crash and go bananas, but at least software issues can be fixed, just a matter of effort. For example many claim factory reset fixes excessive battery drain right after firmware update, which I had personally.
If you are concerned, you could always buy a ZeroLemon battery.

SOC should use the same power as other Snapdragon 805 powered devices (hint: Qualcomm generally makes pretty power efficient smartphones).

@Matrix_19 I think Huawei may have better battery life if it will be well optimised. Just take a look on Note4 for example.
the 5 gained .2" of screen and 400mah
the 6 lost .3" of screen, gained ~300mah
and the current 6 has better battery life I've seen (I own both with N6 encryption on btw, I'm too lazy to turn it back off at least until marshmallow comes out I'm actually OTA'able at this point )
So based on guessing I'll say the 6 has better battery life assuming the S810 doesn't cripple it.
The N5x is likely a safe bet to get one on launch day but I'd highly recommend waiting for the reviewers to test the thermals on the 6P.
By far the biggest thing though is that the standby time on marshmallow is vastly improved from what I've seen, I've got it on my N5 and I just set up my account for syncing and app updates location reporting etc and even with it updating apps, receiving emails, hangouts messages, youtube push messages, etc I've had it standby for half a month a couple times now.
Either way you can't go wrong again assuming Huawei figured out how to keep the S810 cool.
Yes.... The 6p should have better battery life then the 5x. Hate to burst any bubbles but they will most likely be on par with the 5 (5x) and 6 (6p) or slightly better
So long story short after getting two defective Oneplus 2's in a row from Amazon I decided to step away from Oneplus to a more stable and reliable manufacturer.
I've come from a Oneplus 1 before this and I just spent the last three days going over every review of the MXPE. The only issue I have is if I'm making the right decision considering that battery life is pretty average? I'm not going to be using it for gaming, and I wont be using 3G instead of LTE.
Won't say it's bad. The turbo charged enables amazing fast charging times and Android M has surely improved some percentage of the battery. I carry a quick charge 2 enabled car charger too so i don't feel it's bad. i think you will get used to the battery offering of the MXPE.

I had the same concerns as you have right now. The Screen of my OnePlus One got a crack, so I had to decide for myself "Do you want another one, or do you want to give an other manufacturer a try". I decided to buy the Moto X Style, which is the Pure in europe and was blown away by the display quality, the sound and the overall performance. And of course, it's as close to stock Android as it can get. The battery was a real letdown after a few hours of "testing" and recharge-cycles. Coming from a OPO, with all the possibilites to tweak and getting very high SOT, I was really really disappointed. But now, I'm getting really used to it and tweaked some settings a bit, to get more out of that battery. Now I'm on 4-5 hours of SOT and, thankfully, can go even further with the Turbo Charger. Of course, the battery could've been a bit larger (as always), but that's not a big issue in my opinion. Give it a chance, play around a little and you will see, that the overall experience prevails. With Marshmallow on the doorstep, you should get even more out of the battery, thanks to the Doze-Feature. There's a thread floating around, where a couple of users are reporting about an increasing battery life.
Thanks a lot for taking the trouble to reply guys. @doree Glad to see someone else coming from the OPO, I was used to getting 6-8 SOT with all the underclocking/volting that we used to do with AK kernel. Guess i'll do a bit more research from users using marshmallow on the X and then make a decision.
I'd say so far my battery life experience has been slightly worse than what I had with my Note 4, which is still pretty good overall. Especially since the update to MM it seems to drain less in standby. Currently have 2 hrs SOT with 38% battery left (and it last came off the charger Saturday morning). Granted, when I'm at home I always have it on Wifi which uses less battery than having it on GSM/LTE. On weekdays when I'm at work (where I don't have wifi) it drains a bit faster. And I also have a long commute which also isn't beneficial to battery life as it's constantly hopping towers during the commute.

I've read a lot different stuff concerning battery on the MXPE - with a handful of users reporting it's not great. But I must say, from my experience, battery life has been amazing. I get between 4 and 6 hours of SOT per charge. And a full charge can easily get me through 48 hours. I've never had battery life this great on a phone before. Right now I'm running stock LP, no tweaks, no nothing. I don't use WiFi, but location is set to high accuracy, and I'm always on LTE. I do have more than adequate cell signal strength which helps, and I run minimal apps. But overall I've been super impressed with battery life. :knock on wood:
Battery life is decent as long as your not playing games with full gpu usage. I get three straight hours of battery playing games. For the days I don't play games, battery life is good as oneplus one. But my old OnePlus takes the cake playing games and gpu usage with heat.. I'm on stock MM rom on mxpe and cm12 with custom kernel on 1+. Out of the box, I like mxpe hands down. Probably why I'm still stock on this phone. But once we get Custom marshmallow roms rolling, my flashiolic will kick in!

i do not play games but i do chat a lot, movies etc, i get around 5 hours on screen time.
the phone usually lasts the whole day but you have to watch your apps some apps just drain your battery.
keep in mind that you can get 40% of charge in 15 min, you gotta love this feature over the one plus
I'm beyond impressed with this phone in the 48hrs I've had it. Coming from a Pixel 3 and S10e, upon first powering on it felt noticebly jankier than my other phones and understandably so. But after initial setup and allowing it to settle, it's actually pretty snappy. For my use case at least- web browsing, Twitter, Reddit, etc. PUBG is playable, but I'll leave that to my 3xl.
But what is blowing me away is the way this 670 sips on battery. It took me way longer to drain this thing than I thought it would, but between yesterday and today I managed almost 9hrs sot. This was just here at the house, 100% wifi, adaptive brightness on, and aod on. I'm curious what it would do with aod off, but at this point I'm sufficiently hooked on that feature. This is far and away the best battery I've ever had on a phone and it's truly plenty snappy. A step behind the 3 of course, but I'm good with this and the gains in battery are more than worth it. I honestly don't know who buys a Pixel 3 at this point.
Caveat: digital wellbeing was turned off before this test.
Bought unlocked at Best Buy. $399 with a $100 bb gift card; effectively $299. Crazy good value. It feels like Google just decimated the mid-range market.
BTW, the clickiest buttons I've ever had on a phone. The buttons seem oddly high quality for a phone this cheap.
I'm getting about half that with the XL but it's expected, I'm cruel to my batteries. I do agree about the value statement. When day one deals have the phone widely available for 100 (or more) less than MSRP you can figure that's your real buy in price and at 300 and 380 these things are screaming deals. You've got a top notch camera, a good software experience, best update path available,etc. Not an easy combo to beat and I'm very curious about where the sales numbers are going to come in at on these things. Personally, I'm hoping their good and we'll see more of the same.

I think this phone will be very popular. I don't see any reason it wouldn't have a strong development scene as well.
Yeah, I've been over optimistic about some phones that didn't do as well as I expected so I'm a little more guarded now about taking guesses but that aside I see this one as a winner. It's a very compelling package in it's price point.
I gotta give it a pretty good on the battery too. My 3a (small version) arrived on thursday.
It's clear it's gonna be able to consistently do 2 days for me.
Couple hours of PowerAmp via BT, which is a fairly power hungry use, plus 2:45 hours SOT (barely any overlap between the music and the screen use, by the way), over 12 hours with 57% left, good enough as far as I'm concerned..
Quite satisfied with the phone, happy to be back on a "Nexus" (the 3a feels so much like the spiritual successor to the Nexus 5X I knew it'd be the phone for me. I was right).
If next year they make a 4a with small bezels and the same or just slightly bigger screen size (so a slightly smaller overall size), I'll be all over it, almost guaranteed to stay with me for years.
Pixel 3a XL user. I'm not a heavy user but unless something changes I charge the phone every other day. I am on day 2 about to call in quits for today with 34% charge remaining and SOT of 6 hours and 30 minutes. Will put on the charger tonight. I really don't want to start charging the phone when it has over 60-70% charge remaining. I may start charging the the phone to only about 80%. I do that for my laptop because it is supposed to improve battery life. I hope that the excellent battery life continues.
Anyone know if ambient display affects the battery life noticeably? I heard some Pixel 3 owners are complaining about 1-2%/hour idle drain when its on, I hope it's fixed on the 3a.
I'm coming home with 80% battery left where it use to be 20% on my LG....This phone is awesome.

Yes aod is very battery hungry.
I lost 12% over night (8h) .
For me aod is a deal breaker so I turned it off for more battery life.
Overall the battery life is extremely good on my previous oneplus 3 I barely had 4 - 4,5h sot (with all tweaks).
Now I get 8-9h sot so I'm pretty impressed.
With root, substratum and blackedout apps I'm sure the battery life will get some significant boost.
Oh and the idle drain is also very nice, no deep sleep issues. Now with aod off I loose over night 0% yes zero

I'm liking sofar but I got spoiled by my last phone's battery (Mate 9) At least I'll be getting updates though! I have ambient display off and I have a watch connected and a bluetooth earpiece on about half the day. I haven't not kept on charge when I knew I was going to be away from the home for sometime but it does seem like it will get about 20-22 hours on the battery at my usage level. I'm happy with that.
I have been pleasantly surprised by my battery life with my 3a. Best battery life I've ever had on an Android phone, at least in recent memory.

I'm not shure if this could be your drain issue but on the Pixel 3 it does the trick

That was one of the first things I've done. Pretty much all these 'fun and useful' features I've turned off as my phone is 90% of the time in my pocket. I reinstalled Naptime and Greenify, to get it to doze faster.
I just flashed ElementalX Kernel, so we'll see if that helps any.
I don't know why you can used for 9hrs SOT, but I think the average SOT might be 6-7hrs in wifi condition, although it is common, but concerned about its 3000 battery, that's fine. Anyway, how is your setting for that
