I know the golden rule of rooting. "Never ask when root will ready" but I've had the phone a day and I'm begging. Haha.

Package Disabler Pro - Remove Bloat.
All In One Gestures - Re-Map the hardware buttons.
Adoptable storage - http://www.modaco.com/news/android/...e-adoptable-storage-on-your-s7-s7-edge-r1632/
There's already Hotspot mods for Sprint S7 that I know.
I just used a material theme that made the UI dark. Also used a material dark SwiftKey theme. So far I got everything looking great.
So far I'm not desperate for root altho i would love it.

Afrer the lawsuit between samsung and apple. Samsung has become "iSAMPPLE"
I spoke with a Samsung sales friend. He said. After the lawsuit samsung feels they will loss about 200+k samsung galaxy user. That offset is part of the lawsuit settlement.
Is it time to go to Nexus?

You guys realize this isn't Sprint's fault, right?? It's ALLLL on Samsung doing this crap.

Yes

Although this is about the T-mobile CEO, it honestly sounds like he's the only one who cares about it, and is actively trying to come to an agreement with Samsung about the whole thing:
http://www.xda-developers.com/unlikeliest-of-heroes-john-legere-working-to-free-the-s7/
IMHO, THAT'S the guy we need to support in our efforts.

Mannn I want an S7 soo bad but once again Samsung f***ing us over. No root, and the Exynos version has better battery and better performance, so disappointing that the US got the short end of the stick.

Looks like I picked the wrong time to jump ship from HTC....

To me no root is a huge deal breaker. Im returing this phone today and waiting for the LG G5 or the next Nexus. I have the nexus 6 and I love it other than than the broken charging port but I can deal with a broken charging port for multirom and the best support. This phone with stock android and by google would be one of the best phones ever!

Samsung, what you have done to the user community is unconscionable. Don't blame Apple, the carriers, or your mother-in-law. You have made a marketing decision to shut the US user community out from the ability to have phones that are configured the way the users want them. You can't claim support - the same user community has been rooting their Galaxy phones for years without causing you much grief.
I suspect we now know the *real* reason you went with two processor architectures. It's only the US-based community you are hurting.
I switched several years ago to Samsung, and have bought many devices for my organization in the past. I waited a year for the S7 to correct your stupidity in removing the SD card slot from the S6. I'm not waiting another year - or even another three months. I'm looking NOW for alternatives. We all know they are out there. Once I leave Samsung, it will then take, not a really good S8, but my new vendor doing something equally stupid to cause me to consider switching back.
Dr. Kwon, are you listening? Do you even care?

Returning my Galaxy SIII (Verizon)

it is with a very sad and heavy heart that i've decided to return my samsung galaxy s3 to Verizon today. it's by far the greatest cellphone i've seen.
i had shattered my Thunderbolt a couple weeks back, and wanting to keep my unlimited data plan, i was more than glad to pay full price for this device. it's really that incredible.
unfortunately, upon receiving the device, i learned of +Verizon Wireless' locking of the bootloader. they were the only carrier to do such. this has soured the taste in my mouth so greatly, that i am forced to send this incredible machine back to Verizon.
a truly sad day to be a geek.

i am, when i preordered the device there was no 'developer version' (and there's yet one to be for sale on Samsung's developer page)
when it goes live, i'll pick up one, though it makes me wonder just how much Android developer support will be on the Verizon model. not too many devs are willing to pay full price, the community is likely to be very small.
Imo your better off sticking around and waiting for Adam Outleter to finish unlocking the bootloader. I doubt too many will be getting the dev gs3. Dont see much point in a developer edition when there wont be much development on it...

[Returning the Note 7 due to locked bootloader]

All 3 of my Note 7's are going back!
I'm curious to see how big we can get this thread and I hope it makes a statement.
Dumb T-mobile...becoming ATT and Verizon. Actually with the S7 and Note 7 stunt with locking the bootloader, they have...
Such a shame. We bought the phone so it should be ours 100% to do what we want with it. Wth is this? A lease program you're pulling?
Sorry, but I along with many others will not fall victim to your rubbish tactics. I will not be a slave to your proprietary bs.
Who's with me?
Not everyone uses Samsung Pay. No excuses can justify being okay with the fact of not having full control over a device we pay for. It's straight up communist.
I'm solving the issue by not buying one. Period. As much as I love the phone, I will wait to see the new Nexux.

Yes I am seriously surprised at the number of people that thought it wouldn't be locked. It is like the whole S7 release all over again but this time anyone familiar with Samsung and especially members of XDA should have not been surprised at all.
Although i dont care about such things, i do think Samsung should unlock the bootloader. Once the phone is fully payed off you should have that option. I dont think anyone on a plan like Jump should have the option because those phones get refurbished and if anyone else has ever bought a rooted phone off Craigslist knows the pain when the seller messed up there phone and now is trying to pawn it off on someone else. Or maybe they put all phones that have the bootloader unlocked on a special list made to the public so people like me can avoid thise phones

I'm returning mine just because the difference between the note 7 and s7 edge is negligible. Not for $850

The word, "surprised" would only be valid to some, but to most of the enthusiasts, it's not really that we're surprised, it's just that with the international variant (SD820's being offered in markets where there is no Samsung Pay) and with the out cry of the S7, it's not unreasonable to have had a little hope for the Note 7. Long shot? Uh yea, of course...but like I've said, this isn't the first time at the rodeo where we've been faced with the impossible; that became possible in due time.
Come on guys... Seriously? I love rooting and tinkering just as much as anyone... But you are returning all 3 because the bootloader is locked? I'm amazed you bought them in the first place if this is a deal breaker.

No not really, that is a potential lose but in actuality they will just go into the refurbished pool. 1000 phones is still nothing out of the 25+ million phones they will sell. That is based just on the Q2 sales numbers of the S7 \ S7E. The 1000 phones is only 0.004 % of 25 million phones.
Also returns are just part of everyday business and expected. Unless the return rate was a high percentage, it is just normal business to them.
Unfortunately our numbers and desires mean nothing to them compared to their own...

lol I know man, this is how I felt when I got the S7E. I said I was done with Samsung and would never buy a locked down phone. Well here I am with my Note7 knowing it was locked. I would prefer to have the option to root and flash custom roms if I wanted to but I decided to just stay stock which is why I was fine buying the phone.
There just isn't another phone out or soon to be out from what I have seen to match this. I am still keeping the Note5 for the wife so if I really get the itch to flash something, I can always do it on that one.

I am sure there is more to it than that but it is a different scenario than what we had with the S7. I would think that this is the most likelihood of the T-Mobile version getting unlocked. BUT with the reports of the F model getting the update that locked down it's bootloader, I think there is a good chance that they will all be locked down before long.

True, once rooted the update can't be forced. The value of the rooted phones could really go up since the supply will start to dwindle.

Any chance you can ask them to list the actual bands the phone supports?
I'm glad I'll be the recipient of the Exynos (unlocked) version. However i can get with the whole security aspect in regards to Google wallet & Samsung Pay/android pay. Like you mentioned though i NEVER and will EVER use this service, it gets disabled from the moment i get the phone (plus my bank doesn't support it anyway lol).
You pay a premium it should be up to the user as to what he does and yes what he/she risks.
I am very much against taking away the option of root and custom ROMs because of a service being forced upon us.

LOL! Sorry but, how old are you? I'm as disappointed as anyone, but you're acting like a child. You think that because YOU'VE been with T-Mobile "since VoiceStream" T-Mobile should change their decision? Ridiculous. The guy you were talking to can't help you, cannot make any executive decisions and sure as hell isn't passing along your "concerns" to Legere. He also doesn't give a damn that you're cancelling a whopping THREE (3!!!) device orders. Did you think he was going to crumble to his knees, beg you to keep your orders and run tell boss, "we must change our bootloader plans because Mr. VoiceStream is simply NOT having it?"
You were just whining to yourself while he typed, "I understand how you feel" and rubbed your shoulders a bit.

Samsung has officially lost by business. Been a samsung guy since the S3 and I've stuck with them in the years since. It's such a shame that they choose to do this. I don't need Samsung pay, as I have a wallet. Awful that they force these programs down our throats as they're nice to have but are completely unnecessary.

The Galaxy S7 came out in March and it took three months to even figure out how to root it. We don't even have a bootloader unlock for the GS7, and it's been a year since it's release. Might want to lower your expectations as devs are moving away from locked down devices like the Galaxy series in the U.S.

Thanks! the hard brick on the one plus one was due to me flashing colorOS which is a Chinese OS for the OPO. I did something wrong and it hard bricked. I took it apart, removed the battary and did my Odin like setup to get back to CM12S before this was a tada look at this recover it was dead and not responding with 100% battary life prior to the brick. Took me all of 3 hours to fix it. to me that's a hard brick that I revived lol. An uncommon HB for the OPO with only 5 others with the issue. Least at the time.
I know I could find or help aid in the search for root and so on if I had an s8 plus. I'm so so close to having enough cash for one. Been trying to get the gofundme thing off and going so I can get to work on finding a solution

lol again, its not hard bricked if it was fixed with a simple battery pull but by all means lol..
i just dont think someone should donate an S8+ to anyone other than an experienced dev as well as I dont think anyone would be willing to do that either lol
in all reality someone doesnt even need the phone to find exploits/root and trust me it is not easy.. experienced devs take a long time if even ever to come up with exploits and it has only got more difficult..

I'm quite serious about doing dev work. Not that you may be or may not be referring to me, but in any case, even tho I have a low level doesn't mean I don't have an education, a brain crammed with knowledge and a yern to see future development. I'd love to contribute all I can since I know a decently fair amount about Samsung devices in particular and going through alot of code. Sorry if I sound "noob" but as Ive said, I've got more free time than Obama while he was in office. As sad as that is to say.

I fully agree that it is difficult, but with all respect, the s7 active has been out for a year give or take and no one aside from me has and any luck with flashing a nonexynos rom from a different carrier on it and having it work well with the exception of the lack of 3 buttons. Yes echo rom works but so do some others as well. I'm not asking for a free phone to mess around with, I'm looking for help with donations to get my hands on one. To be real with the not needing a device to do root and find exploits, im more of a hands on kinda guy and by that I mean device in my hands lol.
We should encourage people to help development, regardless of how significant or insignificant. This is the exact reason random people and developers don't put **** out for these phones. People never have anything nice to say! Even if you know the guy has absolutely no chance, why does that hurt you so much that you essentially have to say he's stupid and point out his mistake?

no one has called him, stupid except for you in your post.. if anything I am saying good luck and ifcppl want to give him a free phone then by all means lol
and to add some actual facts to your post, some devs will not work on certain devices because of fake wannabe devs lol.. jcase refused to work on the LG V20 for example because there was some fakes claiming they were devs and taking ppls domatioms when all they did was steal other ppls ideas and work..
its not unheard of for xda users to help eachother out by letting him know its not as easy as 123 and simply getting a non snapdragon rom to flash on the phone.. again, if ppl want to give an inexperienced user a free phone or donations to buy a phone instead of a proven and tested dev then by all means go ahead.. its a free country and everyone is entitled to their opinions.
I was saying the opposite of what you incinuated, i am trying to bring more real devs over here by implying any free phones or donatioms should go to them as we'd have a significantly better chance at obtaining root down the road this way based on what that guy has been saying

If I can jump in now, I am a bit slow yes, but I have an education and I've been messing with computers and tech since I was 2. I do agree with the comment of not bashing and getting " more experienced devs" on the matter but them devs were once in my shoes....sure theirs some fake bs ones out here but I say to them m.t.f.o.m.f I cannot begin to tell you of how many times I've had ample times to jump in and help on an important matter for development and chose not to for comments like what I read. Not just on here but on the opo forums as well. No it doesn't hurt me, but the shere lack of wanting to aid and this dude over here knows more and therefore should acquire one first is absolute bunk and just WOW lol. Kinda remember why I deactivated my old xda. Anyways, if anyone serious about development wants to help me prove to these "superior athletic guru types" I have a link in my profile. Damn shame when someone wants to seriously offer help for a,community but as soon as my computer lingo doesn't match, its fast to bash. Instead of pointing out my poor computer English why not just ask what I meant? Everyone is fast to judge these days.

Root for Note 20 Ultra US Version ?/!

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned at all on this forum, unless I'm reading it completely wrong.
https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-note-20-ultra-root-us-unlocked-snapdragon-865/
Now, full disclosure, I haven't actually done this but it is very interesting. I haven't tried my device since the note 8, and is have to get more comfortable with knowing how to unroot before I attempt this. In addition to the details installing custom recovery, I'm just not ready I guess. I'm talking myself up though lol
What do you guys think?

Didn't try it but glad to see there's an option for it now, even if it costs $150

Yes, forgot to mention that. It's posted on XDA's page, so I figured it was okay to share. Thanks for mentioning that detail!

Yeah price is a little steep but will be worth it. I never use samsung pay so losing it is no big deal. Just hope there are some devs out there to cook up ROMs, kernels, etc!
Hey guys, I've been out of the loop since the Galaxt S2 lol... Is it a possibility to pull the unlocked/rooted image off of one phone and use it for others?

You have to unlock your bootloader before doing anything. That's where the issue is
Interested in seeing the results for somebody
That's a bit too much for something you have to wait for someone to have the time to do it .
It comes from China and have to use teamviewer and what about a refund if it doesn't work? Think I'll just stay stock for the mean time, no telling what might get installed on your phone.

Well, I already have WeChat installed so if they are gonna get me, they did long ago lol. Besides, if you root your phone this is a risk you're taking right off the bat. There's a reason Enterprises don't allow rooted devices to connect thru Microsoft/Exchange Activesync services.
Giving superuser access is a risk.
Edit: it also clearly states there is no refund if it doesn't work.

I know the risks of root been doing it for years, just think the risk out weights the advantages with China involved!

No the token is special to each device
---------- Post added at 07:07 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:04 AM ----------
The guys doing it are legit. So all the nasty comments can go up the road. It's either pay it or don't. If you don't. Don't whine about it. Cause obviously you don't know
This method also works for the Canadian variants as well.
Personally I'd probably stay stock but I can see many take advantage
of this method to Root their smartphones.

Ye sir, I agree with this sentiment. Please don't take my sarcastic response as an insult to China. It's 100% the opposite. More skeptical of a product/service purely because it originates in China? What a joke.

But the question in play is development. You pay and then no development hurts too. Thats why I try to stick it with known models if at all possible
i rooted my U model
will cost you 125
that's not something you'd spread on xda

More then likely somebody will copy it and either charge money as well or just release it to the general population. Stuff leaks happens all the time and seeing that they are making what seems to be good money gives even more attraction to those skilled enough to copy it.

I suppose my feelings about paying are: if I want to root bad enough, I'm gonna want it $125 bad. In the scheme of things, is not a huge amount. Not if you can afford a $1300 smartphone, or even ~$800 with trade in.
And yes, it's also worth supporting development.
Edit: also agree, there is a lot going on in China. I've worked with colleagues in China and have friends there. Is a different culture there, there's so much more job competition than here. There's not room for half-assed efforts.
