Lock screen stuck on swipe to unlock despite fingerprints being set as the lock type - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I've had the s6 and the lock screen would actually set the way you wanted. I've set up my fingerprints and set the lock screen type to fingerprints, but it still shows the stupid "swipe screen to unlock" lock screen and ignores the fingerprint setting. I checked the smart lock settings and none of those are active. Any ideas what to try next?

Use your finger. Don't swipe.

Settings > Quick Settings > Lock screen and security > Secure lock settings > Secured lock time > Instantly with the power key or when the screen times out
Basically it is defaulted to not lock the phone until it has been off for 10 minutes, meaning you do not need to use the fingerprint to unlock it if you have recently done so.
Set it as I said and you will be required to use fingerprints every time (or a pin, pattern, or whatever secondary method you chose) and it will unlock directly to your homescreen.

Really? Why did you bother with that?
On the off chance you're being serious and not thread-crapping, the screen will only unlock via swipe. no matter the actual setting, it still acts like swipe is the lock screen setting.

THANK YOU! That is possibly the stupidest, least secure default setting they could have chosen! I like Samsung, but they make it hard sometimes. How stupid. Thanks!

I am having same problem & have my phone set to lock immediately. Frustrating bcuz I want that security feature & it's not working.

update: smart lock and my gear fit watch together, were the culprit

Take off all lock options on your s7... then download gesture lock screen from the play store and set it up. It gets rid of the swipe and you can also customize it a lot more. I just got the s7 and was about to return it, especially after seeing so many threads with this problem, but gesture lock screen works perfect for me. Good luck.

Was having the same issue. Would ask for swipe motion after locking if I attempted to use phone by pressing home screen button. As soon as I disabled Bluetooth it started to prompt for finger print again.

it works...

Thanks S7EdgeGirl, it worked fine after I turned off my bluetooth option...now its asking me for the finger print to UNLOCK..
Crazy..........................
thaks a lot..this helped me out...

Issue for me was the Samsung smart watch was listed as a trusted device in Smart Lock. Turn this off and now it locks immediately as intended.

Hey guys, i have finally got the solution!!!! It is happening because of the smart lock option. Please disable it. What smart lock does is, when u unlock the device it remains unlocked until its with you for emergency kind of thing. If you disable smart lock it will prompt you for entering pattern or any other which you have set. Thank you....

I have the same problem with c9pro
Guys please help. I already set my pattern and fingerprints lock in my c9pro but when i locked and immediately switch on the screen, my phone can unlock using swipe only
I already set Lock screen setting > secure lock setting > lock instantly with power key is ON
But still only need swipe to unlock
What should i do?
Thanks

My s7 stuck on swipe. BT off set for fingerprints initially restated phone went through "new" security measures then after first fingerprint opening reverts to swipe. Changed to no security restarted then 're set up still no good. Figuring it was fingerprints changed to pin set up still works as swipe....frustrating

[Q] Where are the Lock Screen Settings?

For the life of me, I cannot find where the lock screen settinsg are on the SGS3. Anyone let me know?
Thanks!

Yes there are some lock screen settings there but in terms of changing what apps appear on the lockscreen and other type settings it appears that AT&T in their infinite wisdom has decided that's too many options to worry about. Don't want to confuse us users or anything.

Wow...so the reveiws I saw about adding/removing widgets to the lock screen is a moot point for us AT&T folks now...awesome.
How about modifying the apps that are available on the lock screen?
Maybe I'm blind or maybe someone smarter than me can figure it out but I think the only answer is we need root and maybe even need a custom rom to fix (I like to think of it as unbreak).

Also, this is where you can turn on an information ticker (news/ stocks only right now it appears), weather, and dual clocks for those who travel out of their time zone.

Is this on an AT&T branded S3? Cause I don't have any menu option "Shortcuts" on mine.
OK nevermind, I figured out why I can't see it. I had Swipe lock with secure lock checked off since I have secure lock turn on automatically every time I hit the power button. Didn't think there was any point in having to swipe twice, once on the dandelion and once on secure lock, but I do see occasionally see the lock screen when it times out without hitting power. Once I enabled swipe lock with secure lock Lock Screen Options went from a greyed out option (which I thought was a header) to a clickable one.

It would be really cool if the camera shortcut would bypass the pattern unlock too. Either way, it is cool as soon as it unlocks the camera appears.
Has anyone tried the text shortcut where you bring the phone to your face and it calls them?

You can change the apps on the lock screen. Settings> security> lock screen options>shortcuts then follow the directions on the screen. I don't think you can have more than four apps on the lock screen, though.

It works from contact view, but it doesn't seem to work from Google Voice text, or messaging text. I'll keep messing with the settings to see if I can get it to work as in the european unboxing event.

Disable swipe up before pattern unlock?

Any way to disable the swipe up required before getting to the pattern unlock? Ideally I'd like to wake the phone and have the pattern unlock screen be the first thing that comes up. I am rooted and have xposed as well, so if anyone has any tips on how to get rid of that extra step, I'm all ears
Not natively.
GravityBox has an option called Direct Unlock under Lockscreen Tweaks. "Shows security challenge directly when screen turns on". So no more swipe up then enter pin. Also, there's an option in here to Quick Unlock upon entering the correct pin without having to hit "enter". And my favorite Imprint mode "Wake and unlock", which unlocks the phone directly from the fingerprint reader, no other steps required.

I stumbled across that late last night. Definitely achieves what I'm looking for, just a shame it hides the clock as well. I'm running the setting you mentioned, just trying to find a way to keep the clock on the screen
Why not use Imprint then?

I'm more of a fan of the pattern, but then again this is my first phone where the fingerprint sensor is easily accessible with a case on (coming from a line of samsungs, once you put a case on them the fingerprint scanner was worthless). Maybe I'll go that route
I'm on a 6P as well, but I'm running nougat. So is there a solution without using gravity box, as nougat is not compatible with xposed yet? I am currently rooted using magisk, so hopefully there is a mod I am unaware of for that I can use to bypass this.

How to double tap to sleep without require to enter password instead of fingerprint?

I tried nova launcher with tap to sleep app, but every time reopen the phone it will require me to enter the password again.
I think this is a new marshmallow feature. If a third party app locks phone, it requires password. What happens if you manually lock or let time out.

Screen Lock Pro by Prahallad has a setting to bypass security. There is a free app by the same Dev but I haven't tried it.
Once installed you can link Nova's double tap setting to it.

This ^.
It's the only app I've found that doesn't cause the pin lock screen to show the next time you unlock.

Hi
Thanks for the pointer, I tried the free version of the app, and setup my Nova's double-tap gesture to use Screen Lock shortcut, I am able to lock the screen but unable to wakeup w/ a fingerprint. Is there something special you had to do?
Thanks in advance

Does this app really lock the phone or it just shutdown the screen until the phone unlock itself on its own?

It just turn the screen black until it lock itself. Takes about 3-4s. I know the developer wrote there 10s but it only takes 3-4s on s7e. You know it when the AOD comes on etc etc...
As of now, from what I can tell there is no way to use an app or double tap to lock the screen without requiring a pin for a non rooted phone. Apps that turn off the screen but don't lock the phone isn't really an answer.

It is an answer though. You just have to tweak the settings in the security section so the phone locks immediately. There is still a 2 sec delay but to get to lock the screen with a double tap again and get to unlock with touch ID it's fine. It costs a little over $3 though.... which isn't much but is on the steep side for such a single purpose app. There is a marshmallows touch ID workaround setting in it as explained which merely turns the display blank (although for me the edge thing is still visible) then after a really short delay the screen actually turns off and AOD turns on. With the system settings set right it actually locks securely the moment AOD turns on. Max 2 sec delay. No one's gonna get a chance to get in your phone that quick.:good:
So, I did come across this same issue, and it seemed to have started for me when I applied the May Security Update. It happened on my Note 5 and my S7 Edge. But when I applied the July security patch to my Note 5, double tap to lock WITHOUT a pin next login actually worked again, not so on my S7 Edge, after applying. Havent had enough time to research and dig, but doesn't make sense working on 1 and not the other when both are 6.01, both on July security patch, both Verizon models, and both use Nova Prime. Has had me stumped since May....
Sorry. Original post placed in forum for wong device.

Major security issue

Can anyone else confirm that while the phone is locked, you can double-click the home button to launch the camera, wait a few seconds, hit the back button, and the homescreen will appear without a fingerprint scan or pattern unlock?
Not on mine, I go back to the lock screen.

If you double tap the home button it tries to read your fingerprint while you are doing it.
If you give it the split second to read it, when you back out of the camera your phone is unlocked.
Try the same thing with a finger you have not registered a fingerprint of and you should always go to the lockscreen.
If that is not the issue, check your secure lock timeout settings.
Settings > Quick Settings > Lock screen and security > Secure lock settings > Secured lock time > check that it is set on "Instantly with the power key or when the screen times out"
For some reason Samsung has it set to default lock only after 10 minutes of inactivity.
Not a Security issue. Look a little deeper here.

I'll thank you when your solution isn't to disable a feature I use all the time.
I think it's more likely what the other poster said about my fingerprint being read.

Require pin to sign in after certain amount of time of inactivity

Is there a way I can set this? Like if I don't use my phone for an hour require a pin to unlock it instead of a fingerprint.
Hola
Simple I think. 2 areas you need to configure:
1. Settings -> Display -> Sleep
2. Settings -> Security -> Screen lock -> Automatic lock

Unless ZTE changed the lockscreen behavior from Marshmallow, the fingerprint scanner will always unlock the device. If you can disable the fingerprint scanner temporarily, I can work something out for you using Tasker. On the lock screen, look for the padlock logo (it might be a fingerprint) at the bottom center of the screen. Either tap it, or press and hold. You may or may not see a message appear (see the attached screenshot). Try to unlock the phone with your fingerprint and let me know if you're forced to type in the PIN.
Apps designated as Device Administrators are supposed to have the ability to lock the device and disable the fingerprint scanner. Nova Launcher, Secure Settings, and Tasker all have Device Administrator supported lock commands. On stock Android, this would disable the fingerprint scanner and require the PIN to be entered. On B29, I found that ZTE removed this behavior and gave the fingerprint scanner absolute authority to unlock the device. If this is still the case, I never figured out a way to completely lock the device.
FWIW I was forced to enter a password today, fingerprint did not work. I did not knowingly reboot. I too find this behavior very disturbing. I do not memorize my passwords as the are robust (long) my finger should suffice in all circumstances IMHO. I am wondering if I could get any kind of an answer from customer service at Axon....
