sprint S7 edge root? kingroot? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
Got my S7 edge (about to activate, very excited!).
Curious if there are any root methods available?
I've seen the S7 kingroot page, although I haven't seen much on these forums about it. Anyone have any insight?

From reading other areas there is no root at this time. Some have tried king root and it failed

True that. Just got my S7 edge too. Way too early for root and roms lol

Should NOT have been too early for root!
Root on Samsung has for a long time been easy since the bootloader is unlocked, and Chainfire has a solution that works after just a little work, mainly getting the correct standard recovery image.
The Snapdragon-based S7 and S7 Edge, sold in the US, has a locked bootloader. This means no root until/unless some busy developer finds an exploit (and then likely no custom recovery/backup).
Tweet @Samsungmobileus and (sprrint users) @marceloclaure early and often - bad press (and returned phones) will hopefully trigger a reverse, or an unlock mechanism like HTC has used in the past.

Hey guys, what about this video??? youtu.be/GNInTlCpv8E

So... if I *understand this correctly* the IS a ROOTing process for locked US based Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile phones WITH A LOCKED BOOTLOADER?
Cheers!

Read the forum rules. Rule 1 specifically.
Post the link to the forum rules and quote rule 1 and I'll give you the link with instructions of how to root. :good:

No i cant find it because I ended up here only to read your useless blithering flame because you apparently failed to read the rules yourself.
real hackers don't read rules unless they want to flame you back for wasting their time.

Yeah, it is usually the top post under the guide, news, and discussion section. It says "SM-G935P Root - Updated 08/15/2016"

If you can find the rules but not the links to root then perhaps you just proved my point? You can root your phone. You are very welcome to do so. But failing to take 15 minutes to read and research for yourself (like a "real hacker" would do) you will almost certainly regret it later. Personally, I know that you capable of finding the guide because you found the forum rules and even found this forum yet you state that you can't find the guide. Sorry (not really though) but thats just lazy and I find that rather impossible otherwise. But sure. I'll take reprimand for calling it like it is and refusing to spoon feed lazy wannabe "hackers." Speaking from experience when I say that nothing happens with infractions anyway. At most you're only hurting the community by limiting the assistance by a senior member. Right? But anyway, I won't spoonfeed because all it does is congest this forum with repeated questions and cries for help by people that won't take the time to use the resources that XDA is known and loved for. Yet members like myself have dedicated THOUSANDS of hours to helping members which are truly in need... and they're not even "hackers!" Because at least they've tried. But like you said... "real hackers don't read... " so I won't be wasting any time on helping you or anyone else that continues to take this forum for granted then have the balls to try to call a senior member out on discipline when you clearly know nothing about it.
So... I'm just going to dismiss your worthless bantering as I would any other troll and wish you best of luck.
PS
Even my signature has a HOW TO ROOT guide link in it! That was to try to help people like you. Yet you still manage to complain.

I found it, it just make me mad when people like binary like to ramble on so much and i had to visit his post instead of the guide I wanted.
I don't know why his post came right up when I was searching.
I rooted my phone now i am having trouble un-rooting, lol. I think it was because I switched like day one from g930P "sprint" to g930u, it was great until I rooted, now I can't un-root.
There is some data for you binary, see if you can hit 2000 words this time slacker!

Why don't both you knock off the sophomoric BS and get along. We don't need quoted rules. Either report or ignore. BOTH OF YOU need to heed rule 47 which reads "Come on now, really?"
No more of this stupidity please.

RUDE **** like this keep decent people away. The idea of a forum is people have to interact and contribute. If everytime someone posts something and some **** post his opinion on that post the website will eventually die....that pisses me off.... what a ****.
I think the issue here is that there is an already active thread about the Sprint 2.1 release date. The mods already combined threads together.
Apparently, the release date of the 2.1 image is causing some people to lose patience and tempers. Not trying to excuse it, just offering a possible explanation.
As a short timer on these forums I find it hard using the search to determine how many threads are out there already and if someone posted the information already. This is a very active forum and there are so many posts I am sure there is a lot of duplicate information. Being a moderator must be a full time job on active forums like these. To be safe I usually do not post anything new for fear of someone overreacting and sh*tting down my throat (and I assume that's for the best to prevent duplicate postings). I let the experts do all that, but it's too bad someone can't share information without someone acting like an ass.

Share all you want. Just make sure there's not 50 threads about it already. It's fairly easy to use search (even though you say you have a problem with it) for '2.1 release' or 'sprint 2.1' or something. It's all in your search terms. People don't tend to get pissed off unless there have already been a LOT of threads posted...and until recently the mods weren't doing a whole lot of moderating so we'd have 10-15 posts on Sprint 2.1 rumors...which is why each time someone opens a thread like that they get jumped on.

Not only that but, unlike you, he didn't use inflammatory language or resort to name-calling. I fail to see how his post was rude.
2. The point is, he didn't even have to do a search, he just needed to pay attention. The article he linked, links right back here...to our very own forum.
This is a developer's forum folks. Even noobs are expected to be proficient in certain areas. Like searching. If you don't like the search feature provided by XDA, use Google and specify XDA as the search location. In most cases, if you didn't spend an hour searching, you didn't give due-diligence. Think that sounds like too much work? Hey, post away! But don't get upset when someone points out your negligence. I am not picking on you, op, and I certainly am not trying to be hostile towards you or anyone else. There have been a lot of posts lately attacking forum users who are simply trying to get others to follow forum rules. Remember, knowing how to click the search button and knowing how to properly search are 2 different things.

God I love having Mods pay attention to us now!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!
People learn by being taught in a proper manner. Excuse my offensive language but why do people need to be a smart butt to someone that doesn't know. I'm sure since one of the guys first post and interaction is met with rudeness. I guess there needs to be a huge disclaimer on top of this website that says noobs please take your business elsewhere. Remember everyone here is not perfect and everyone was once new to this website. I see this kind of stuff all the time.
One if the beauties of being human is that we have the ability to learn from the observation of others, not just direct, personal experience.

Sigh. Thank you. I was going to post about exactly this, but didn't really have the motivation. My post wasn't meant to be rude or flaming, but asking a direct question. I'm still incredibly new to these forums, but I lurked before I finally joined and knew what to expect. I search, and I've been successful in finding my answer all but once. And even when I did post my question, it just turns out I wasn't searching hard enough. The reason I bring all this up is that all the threads posting with the same information, especially when they have to do with 2.1 rumors (which bogs down a search for ANYTHING related to the 2.1 releases).
Point is, I wasn't intending to be rude, but was met with rudeness anyway. The people complaining are just as bad as the people they're complaining about.

Development stickies

Hello! Recently, as many of us have noticed, the moderator of the Vibrant forums here on XDA has decided to consolidate all of the sticky threads in to a single thread. I, and several other members of XDA, have some major concerns with this including:
Former stickies are mixed in with development threads
Stickies are more difficult to find
Stickies receive less attention, and therefore there is less incentive to update them
Since having easy to access information reduces the number of off-topic and question posts over in development I put forth a suggestion to our moderator, that the users of XDA decide if the stickies are returned or an alternative solution is devised! If there is a majority in favor of changing the presence of the stickies mmelo has stated that he will abide by the will of the users.
If anyone has any alternative solutions besides the ones I have posted in the poll please come forward with them!
Being someone who has two of these stickies, the ones geared for those who need the most help... And the amount of time I spent... And for all those who post questions in them that I answer...
I'm a little offended and upset. I mean first there were stickies that had absolutely no business being stickied and now lumping them all together (now I have no clue if someone posts a question).. Whatever, I've taken a break from it for a few days and it's been nice. Perhaps this is my sign to just quit trying to help so much.
Perhaps we just need a new bibrant moderator too though.
Edit: I guess my suggestion is:
How it was before (before meaning not including threads that should not be stickies)
a new mod, someone who has a pulse on the vibrant and speaks English (isn't that a guideline for being a mod)... I mean absolutely no disrespect, just being honest.
My suggestion was to remove threads like the Nero fixes and stuff and the Samsung numbers.
Not your threads but I guess he didn't exactly understand, but this being a mobile website and all the stickies were filling up most of the screen.
There's plenty positives about this and negatives, but the statement its harder to find is BS.
U guys tell newbies to search anyways and searching will only lead to the same thread.
Find a post where I said search, AND didn't provide an answer.
It is harder. If someone posts a question, I have no clue now unless my thread happens to be on page 1.
The only positive I see is that you don't have to scroll down as much...
You know if you guys don't like what he is doing to the vibrant forum you can always go above him and let the administrators know.
A mod is just an employee and they aren't perfect, some even abuse their powers at times.
Ultimately if the forum members aren't happy then let the people above the mods know.
I personally think there were too many stickies to begin with, but sticking them all in one, including the bible and noob guide was a bad idea. Just my opinion that is all.
As someone who searched first and asked later. I miss the previous setup.

Sick of several things on XDA

Well I know XDA its ment for developers.. And they are kind enough to share their hard work with us.. Bringing new life to our devices and more..
Developers always gets piss off about stupid question and or issues reports without providing a logcat... While I'm agree with this.. I'm not agree with XDA letting average noob post in development section.. Looking at the nature of the forum I can not believe there's isn't a way to block a person from posting in development if that person at least doesn't have (3 months and 350 post) in the forums... That's Imho a reasonable period of learning how to be helpful and provide useful information in development area...
I look at the case of Francisco Franco.. I really enjoy his works and support him a lot.. I had his kernels when I had a Gnex and that + cm9 was the best experience of Android for me.. Then I've sold the gnex and bought the note and one of the reasons I came without thinking was franco kernels does support note.. For my surprise he stopped supporting because of the ****ing trolls about a bluetooth issue in the kernel and so we all rest has to pay for it not haven updates anymore...
Recently he came back and one of the very first welcome post was a random noob asking for the bluetooth again. ... And Ffs I don't want to lose Francisco support again... And he was very clear about it..
I think XDA SHOULD block as I said earlier users with the double conditional of (3 month old account and 350 post) from writing on development.. They could read and download but not write..
Any user with those conditions not only be experienced enough to provide a logcat but will be scared of messing in development because he could get banned and lose his hard work in the account.....
That said I think there is no excuses to do so.. Look also to Entropy... I think the guy gotta buy a new keyboard every day raging at Noobs posting bs in cm9/10 developed threads..
XDA go ahead and take actions before we lose our developers

Wisdom strong in this post is. Franco is a really good developer and I'm sad he left Note. He used to develop for my old Huawei before he left for GNex and his kernel rocked.
But... One shouldn't take the regular forum trolls too seriously. Just leave them crying in their own **** and move own. There is also the report function here.
I agree with you though that there is way too much idiots in the development forums. Just look at the new JB PA 1.1 thread: couple of first pages just full of posts "how do I install this?" "does this brick my phone!?" etc. So annoying to find the actual bug reports or feedbacks through all the ****. This is because people are way too lazy to actually study anything these days. Everything has to brought to them ready and chewed.
Edit: and there is also this one hero that already bricked his note with JB PA because he didn't care to study stuff before flashing. :banghead:

Just report their posts. The mods are also sick of it and are handing out infractions, IIRC. I have yet to see a noob post again after reporting him, so it works very well.
It seems the original dev section doesn't have the 10 post requirement like the normal dev section. And most spam is from people with one or a few posts. It would definitely help to have that 10 post rule there.

Tbh there should be a read count for how many threads someone has read. That would just be a little hard to measure.

I certainly agree on you with this one. But like in every other forum and the whole internet, you can't really prevent noobs and trolls. Trolls gotta troll man. Kinda hard to filter them out as it will require the mods to check every single day on every single thread with thousands of post on it and obviously that will take full time. Most of us specially moderators do this for a hobby.
Let's just do our part to make the community a better place. That is reporting trolls. Like the other guy said on the 2nd post, let's just click on that little report button and the mods will take care of the rest or you can just ignore the regular forum troll and move on like most of us do. An old internet saying "Don't feed the trolls" ignore them and the average forum troll will just hunt for the next trollable thread and will eventually get tired, while the persistent ones, well let's just keep on clicking the report button and wait for the banhammer to land
The post requirement or the tenureship in the forum is a fantastic idea though. Maybe even the thanks meter/level, like you could post even if you're not 3 months old or don't have 350 posts but if you do have a certain thanks level/meter you could post and access the restricted area of the forums. No one would press the thanks button if you didn't post something useful right?

put categories as "devs" and restrict allowed posts to those people only. then cross referrence the thread to a discussion page for noobs and others to bash each other.
those who wish to post in the dev section should provide a fully working firmware for downloads and testing purposes for the ones designated as "testers" on xda.
i know its a lot of work, but its a solution if the admin will put the political will to it.

Although you have a point here i really don't like the idea. Ok we need to restrict the troll posts but..... once you were a noob too !!!! What we see now is that this site has grown to numbers never seen before. In the early days there were only a handfull users, a few devices and not much to do. Nowadays if you have a problem EVERYBODY refers to this forum from other places. So basicly we have a flood of new, unexperienced, people that just have one big problem: THEY DON'T READ!!!! I've been a member for a long time now, learned a lot just by reading and only post when i think it's usefull to the comunity. Even after all this time i still sometimes ask questions like a noob, should i be blocked???
There is one solution for this problem: NOT allowing to post untill they have at least read a few posts MARKED as an obligation. But i don't think it's possible.
What we see here is the growing of a forum with soo many devices and people, i think about a year or two this will stabelize :laugh::laugh:

Sometimes the trolls you are referring to are actually innocent noobs who are afraid of bricking their new Notes. They just want to double check some crucial things before attempting risky procedures.
Were we not all noobs at one point in our lives?
I know both trolls and noobs can be really frustrating but many of the members here can be quite impatient, responding rudely and degrading the once-friendly community.
I do agree with you though and I definitely think changes need to be made to ensure the development thread remains strictly development related. But I also think changes should be made to some members attitude too.

put categories as "devs" and restrict allowed posts to those people only. then cross referrence the thread to a discussion page for noobs and others to bash each other.
those who wish to post in the dev section should provide a fully working firmware for downloads and testing purposes for the ones designated as "testers" on xda.
i know its a lot of work, but its a solution if the admin will put the political will to it.

I abandoned a forum in my country due to "laws /rules" like that. Things were just getting out of proportion that it is impossible to help people there. Unfortunatly the mods over there think that they are god and if you make a reference about this forum or about rooting you will get banned !!!! I don't think that it's the future of this forum..
Restrict some topics to people that have more then xx months or xx posts will help. But i don't think it's possible to do. And what a bout people like me, i only read here, learn and do not post often. I don't have time to make a rom or custom firmware and come here for leasure ??? Am i elegible for seeing everything...... As you see it is very hard to make the choise about who can have full accesws and who doesn't.
becosemsaida
Write on development section thread should have some restriction.
And thank meter is one good criteria (just being member since long/posting just certain number of post dont make skilled)
if member have at least 10-20 thank meter he/she must have some skill and may not post noob Q.
There is always Q/A section is open for newbies.
this needs to be said.....
i have to call you out on this. The OP has been posting bizarre and rambling questions in DEV threads, getting all pissed off when ppl ask him not too, and has even admitted to not wanting to bother reading the thread because he is not that stupid.
It is people LIKE YOU that are bringing this place down.
If you cant be bothered searching or reading, you DO NOT BELONG on a development website. end of story.
If you want to make your phone look pretty to impress your mates, go some place else. XDA is all about the journey - the end result is not so important. its about trying things yourself and sharing knowledge. If you are just lucky enough, you might even be able to help someone out!
do not come here to whinge and flame others when you break the rules (do NOT post in a dev thread if it is not directly related to the development of that thread).
Also, you have to wonder how a user of 4 months has over 1000 posts, and some members have been here for years with only 500 posts.....

So? When I was uncertain about something I posted it in either the general or Q/A section. Why the hell should anyone be posting questions in the dev section?
And no, despite contrary belief, some people are newbies, some people are noobs. Not everyone used to be a noob. There is a massive void between the two. A newbie is one that is self-learning and is capable of exercising some semblance of common sense with regards to forum rules and forum etiquette when he joins a new forum.
So please, if you want to consider yourself a noob at one point, go right ahead. But do not make sweeping statements that everyone was a noob.

I think XDA should do nothing here.
There are no real reasons to rage at some users posts.
There's nothing SO bad about it.
You can always press 'report' button if some super-mega-trolls come to your thread (I haven't seen any yet)
As for me, XDA community is currently not so friendly as it should be.
Devs raging at most of the posts, advanced users trolling noobs...
That's really not so nice.
Blocking users with small post count or small thanks count, etc is unacceptable in my opinion. Really.
Maybe XDA is meant for developers, but developers can't exist without users they are developing for.
Here is Example, why we should need some control

This I agree, sometimes it's not that they're noob, it's that they're kiasu, as we Singaporeans call it. They spam devs with stupid questions, since it's free to ask anyway, and expect people to be free 24/7 to reply.
Also, many devs hate XDA. Because much dev work is not being appreciated here. In the Acer Iconia A500 section, both devs "Thor2002pro" and "dexter_nlb" have made amazing contributions to the community, but many *******s don't appreciate what they have done. They have left subsequently.

VZ replacement S5 on OE1

Just received a replacement device from VZ and its already on OE1. All the threads I've seen show this to be unrootable (at the moment). When root techniques come out, I'm curious where they they "are" while working toward a workable solution. Would like to see what progress is being made and if there is any way to know "are we there yet" before we get there.
BTW - Thanks VZ!

It's a yes or no question. The answer is no. You are asking for a maybe, when it's a no. If all the threads say it's unrootable, what makes you think making another thread will change that fact? Read the following if you want to know why:

Root mostly comes from sources off of XDA. Very few attempt solutions in threads on XDA because of the constant "are we there yet?" posts. Most developers work in private chats.

My question relates to where are those working on rooting it discussing the subject so I may read more about the progress.

Dude, get over yourself. OE1 isn't rootable and probably never will be. He gave you the answer. Too bad for you that it's not the answer you're looking for. Stop asking and accept that. All you can do is watch the thread and hope someone decides to work on it (good luck with that). You're asking for an update on something that doesn't exist. There is nowhere to follow development on it, like the MOD said, it's in private chats. Private means you're not invited, mostly because they don't want amateurs asking questions every minute. Just let it go and stop getting unnecessarily defensive when you get info you don't like!:good:

I respond because I like helping people and providing useful contributions as one should try to do when participating in a forum.
You say my post has no value, yet when I say your thread has no value, suddenly I'm an ass? Such hypocrisy. Not only does my post it address all of your questions, your theoretical maybe and your question of remaining the same for all eternity, it does more.
Even if this thread is "useful" to you in terms of information, not only have I provided you with sufficient theorycrafting which makes perfect logical sense (feel free to correct me if I am wrong), but you are looking for updates to a yes or no question, therefore, you are not providing any usefulness to those developers who may (yet very unlikely, see my links) still be working on root. Rather, you are bugging them. Your thread is useless, you only see my post as useless because the permalinks weren't working, which I fixed. Yet you still reply, and obviously didn't read the post because that post answers your question that you asked me after.
Also, you posted in the wrong section, in which, your thread was answered multiple times. Not only did I respond to you with valuable information, I originally said nothing about your faults. The moderator has moved your thread and has given you the same TL;DR answer I gave you. So you are still asking for a maybe to a yes or no question, which is currently no. So explain to me again, who is the one being rude here?

Your last reply is the only one which is slightly helpful... Odd you make snarky comments then get offended when others do the same. I didn't ask if it is rootable ( which would be a yes/no question), I asked something else. Your premise the post required a yes/no answer is a misunderstanding of the question. Clearly you don't know the answer, and that's OK. Why piss and moan about me not liking your snarky comments. If you're going to dish it, be ready to take it.

Snarky comments? Are you talking about yourself? Look at your first response. I've even underlined it for you. Now look at the second underline. That's what you asked. And I answered your question in detail, in those links, which I'm sure you haven't read, because you wouldn't be continuing your redundant discussion. Even the moderator answered your question, and you still are insistent on pursuing a different answer just because you don't like it.

You need to read what the moderator wrote in post #3. I've quoted it below in case you missed it or just have reading comprehension problems. There is nowhere for you to read about the progress of developers working on root for this phone because if it is being worked on, the work is being done in private chat rooms which you won't be able to access. That is because they don't want to be bothered with the exact kind of "Are we there yet?" questions you are asking in this thread. And I will reiterate what has already been written in this thread. It is highly likely no one is working on root for this phone now, and it is highly unlikely anyone will be working on root for this phone anytime in the near future. You may not like the answer you are getting, but it is the only answer to your question at the present time.
This thread is as close as you are going to get to what you are asking for:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...lausible-to-jtag-to-rewrite-unlocked-t3184952
And the OP in that thread is technically not working on root for the phone, just an experimental and risky thought on a way to bypass the locked bootloader.

He likes ignoring facts too, but I answered this in his other thread about petitioning for the FCC to unlock the bootloader:

or as quoted here:

Which would nullify his entire thread of him trying to brick to unlock the bootloader.
Considering he's having "issues" bricking the phone... he doesn't have enough knowledge, just free time on his hands. He's probably going to just waste time soft bricking his phone.
But there's a simple logical explanation. If you have to unlock the bootloader to write unsigned code, i.e. a bootloader/custom rom, how would writing an unlocked bootloader work? That's like asking, how do you get the key to unlock a safe (if the key is inside the safe) so you can get your money? Replace a safe with an unlocked one? What happened to the money? Edit: on second thought, this is a slightly bad analogy, replacing the safe would be like getting the unlocked dev edition, but it still should get the point across.
He may as well just try flashing all the developer edition roms to his non dev phone (Note to new people: DO NOT do this), because those are all "unlocked firmware", exactly what he's trying to do.
He seems bent on arguing semantics, which is why I went back and forth with him but eventually stopped in his petition thread. But he's not rude like this guy, he just has a mindset that says, this is what I feel the answer should be, so it should work no matter what.

Who made you ruler of XDA? He who is also infamous for criticizing. He who believes he is above the rules, blames others for his troubles, and continues to be disrespectful to users, devs and moderators. He who holds the record for bans both on XDA and on telegram. He who can't read a thread without posting some worthless comment in it.
runninghamster has the freedom to ask and he has the freedom not to post an answer. This does not break any rules. You preach about the freedom to say what you want all of the time, so you should be able to understand that. Even though the things you choose to say are against the rules and get you banned.
If you feel you could find the answer, or know the answer, then be helpful and post a link or give advice. Your post does nothing. Only trying to start another one of your meaningless fights that you have quite the reputation of doing.
