How can I get Google maps to pop up notifications while navigating?
Back on the iPhone, if I was using another app, maps would notify me the next turn was coming up with a notification balloon.
Anyway to get that on my Nexus?
Curious what you're doing with the phone while driving that prevents Google Maps from being open? I have never used an iPhone, but I'm thinking you might mean how the screen turns on and shows the popup like it does for a text. I don't think this is possible with Google Maps and/or stock Android at this time.
If you are trying to keep the screen on music like Spotify or Pandora, you could try something like AutoMate (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bitspice.automate&hl=en) which has a dashboard style home screen that can show music info and maps info in one screen. It emulates Android Auto on the device and works very well. I use it every day.

Now, This might sound like a dumb question, but is there a way when navigating or getting direction through Bing or Google to have the map not turn around in circles? It makes it hard to follow and easy to make a left instead of a right and vice versa. I'm wondering if there's a way to keep the "my location" arrow to stand still and have the map rotate around instead.
Anybody have any ideas? Thanks
I know what you are saying (to always be north oriented). I looked through the Bing settings and couldn't find anyway to do it. Well with Bing, when a turn is coming up it goes to different screen anyway so I guess it really isn't that necessary.
Sidenote: Bing w/ voice navi has truly solidified the HD2 as my all-in-one device. Navi, internet, music player, movies, games... All I need to get through my days are my wallet and HD2.
I agree with you that Bing is a great tool, but I have to say that I find those pop-up screens kind of anoying....maybe it's just me...When I had google nav with android it worked great! It would even automatelly zoom in for an exit or turn - loved it. I just hope that google is going to make it available to WM soon.

I think Goole Nav will available soon with MS Bing drifting behind them, it would just be a good move.
But then again this is Google, a company who tried to self the N1 themselves and look at what happend.
Is it me or the google navigation is missing from this phone ?
I have it, separate launcher icon and all

Mine was missing too. However, once I updated Google Maps, and rebooted the phone, there it was!

And it kicks ass btw!
sorry for my ignorance, but what is google navigation and how do you reboot the phone?
go into the market application search for google maps, or just hit menu, downloads.. you will see theres an update. Update it. Then go into the launcher (applications menu) and search for navigation. Have fun. Its turn by turn directions from google maps, and acts pretty much just like a real car GPS.

It's like having a GPS receiver. If you've ever used VZ Navigator for Verizon or anything like that. It basically gives you turn-by-turn directions without having to pay for it. Pretty nice feature IMO. O yeah and it's free.
O yeah and rebooting your phone all you do is hold down the top home key for a while and it will launch a screen that asks you if you want to power off or reboot.
thanks for the quick response. I will try out the navigation app. Now I pressed the home key and it only has options for power off the phone. oh well maybe if i power off and on the phone it's the same as rebooting.
take a look at your manual, the home key has a little home on it. Either way that has nothing to do with what you need to do, you need to go to your application market and find google maps and update it, no reboot should be necessary
yeah correct once i updated the google maps, navigation have updated it
I know all about the phone's GPS issues... They've been well logged. In maps or nav, I get a lock no problem down to 2-3 meters and it's totally accurate. Any other app that tries to use it, however, is a different story. Neither Minimal Text or any of the other weather widget apps I've tried to use have let me lock onto the city I'm in. I let Minimal Text sit at "Unknown..." for hours before I gave up and tried to use a different app. Genie Widget (news and weather) works just fine, but any non-Google app struggles.
Is there some sort of permission I'm missing out on? I was running AOSP on my Evo forever and never had such a strange happening.
I've had my Gear Live for a couple of days now, and it works great I love it. The only exception is when I'm doing my work outs. When I'm out running I use wired head phones (no built-in mic) and listed to music through the Google Play Music app. What I find really annoying is that during my runs my music pauses because my Gear Live constantly activates the Voice Actions/Voice Search function. "It thinks I'm saying "OK Google."" So in the end, I find myself turning off the watch instead of looking down at it every couple seconds to dismiss the Voice Actions screen. So my question is, does anyone know how to temporarily turn off the Voice Actions/Voice Search functions in Android Wear?

This has also already been answered. Simply "mute" the watch, this will deactivate the wrist gesture to light up the screen and therefore also deactivate the listening for "ok google". The search function is your friend.
Thanks

Thanks, much appreciated. I did not realize it was as simple as that.
How good does Google now work on the note 4? I am thinking about getting the note 4 & I am real big on Google now. One of the features that I like the most that this phone offers is the ability to do Google now while the screen is off and wake it. Does this work pretty good?
Also, I read were moto voice makes Google now laggy. How is the Google now in terms of responsiveness for note 4?
I find it very responsive. However, my Google Noaw stopped working (would respond to okay google command only from Google search screen...would not respond from off screen or any other screen for that matter.) I checked all my settings and they were fine. I rebooted, still no joy. Cleared cache, still not. The only thing that worked was uninstalling the updates via app manager. Why this worked I do not know but....if someone runs into similar I hope it helps.

It works great, the only problem is if you have a gear watch or anything with bluetooth already connected, then it only works whenever it wants. You can't even set up your own voice if gear watch is on. Once you disconnect the fear watch, it works perfect every time, screen on,off, locked. I also have the s voice active. So with my gear watch connected, i use s voice for text, call, open apps etc from my gear watch. I only use the ok google for searching as ok google does a much better job at searching.
S voice is improved drastically. I'm coming from note 2 so, for me, s voice is like day and night. Even the car mode is amazing. I hope this helps your decision. Note 4 is a beast phone. I have been using it for a week now and love it. I'm stock by the way. No root.
i use the google now launcher and i have no issues (i've disabled S-Voice).
Ok Google search comes up whenever i say the hotword. I don't use it from lock screen (have a lock screen security on), but works fine if you have an unsecured lock screen.
Also have a Moto 360 connected via blutooth and it doesn't affect it at all.
There are some conflict issues between s voice and google now voice search. Once i turned off s voice, the problems went away.
"Always-on"-function gone and replaced by "From any screen". Why?
When you go to the settings of Google Search/Voice/OK Google Detection/
one should see the "Always-on" option, right?
I used to have it, but right now it´s gone and got replaced with "From any screen". I don´t know how that happened.
The problem is, "From any screen" doesn´t work when the display is OFF.
The "Always-on"-function does work also when the display is OFF.
I already re-installed Google Search, but that didn´t help either.
Anyone got an idea how to get the "Always-On"-function back?
Not , but I did find out the delay in voice search is caused the touchwiz launcher. Install the free nova launcher, and the search launched twice as fast, plus has a lot better customization.

Good advice, thanks. By the way: Does your Note 4 show the "Always-on"-function, or do you also have only the option "From any screen"?
I wonder whether it could be that there is a special version of the GoogleSearch-app for the Note 4 or devices like to Moto-X?
So when one downloads the standard GoogleSearch-app from the PlayStore, one will not have the "Always-on"-function.
Is that possible?
I have always and also from lock screen checked. There might be a specific version in the samsung pre-installed app store.
I think Always On works better with Nova Launcher than with Google Now Launcher. I was using GNL for a bit and after a long idle, the phone would not respond to "OK Google" with the screen off. It would take turning on the screen, then off, for it to work. My guess is that the Google app gets killed when not in use for a while. With Nova, you have Aggressive Desktop, which is similar to keeping the app in memory. Couple that with enabling "OK Google" from Nova and it keeps the Google app from being killed. Just a theory. Will test more.
