Anyone know which bands are supported by the VZW version? Is it only 2/3/4/5/13?
TIA

I just read about this. According to this review: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2500353,00.asp
"It (Verizon Wireless Samsung Galaxy S7) has LTE bands 2/3/4/5/7/8/13/18/19/20/38/39/40/41. Samsung unfortunately removed key LTE bands for the other major US carriers—12 for T-Mobile, 17 for AT&T, and 25 for Sprint—to make it difficult to use this model elsewhere."
I doubt it was Samsung that removed it - more likely, Verizon had them remove the others. Just a guess, tho.

Is there an ELI5 version of this thread? What is the importance of knowing which "bands" are supported?

Using the phone LTE in other carriers. Carriers 'own' certain frequency bands which are used to communicate with your phone. Your phone and the tower need to be able to use the same frequency band in order to communicate.
Most phones work on 2G/3G world wide (except on CDMA carriers like Verizon, generally most phones don't use the tech/frequencies for verzion nor would Verizon allow then on their 2G/3G bands of they did). But LTE is new enough that most phones don't support the 20 odd frequency ranges used (2G/3G use less then 10 combined for most of the world).

The modem supports all the bands, Verizon disables it in software. What a bummer! I will suggest you to buy G950U or US cellular model.

Or flash the firmware of the carrier you want to enable the modem which has been successfully posted on a few xda threads and other sites. All snapdragon us variants can be cross flashed.

Yes, AT&T bands are in that firmware, evoke TMO bands are in there. Most gsm carriers have all bands except Verizon and Sprint bands enabled

I don't have links to the firmware, I'm at work. If you look at updato.com you can find the latest for the g930a, or you could get the g930u nougat update. There are plenty of threads that work through Odin usage in each forum in the QA

att s8 question

You'd have to check on the s8 forums. An s7 probably would as I think only the Sprint and tmo phones were simlocked. Not sure though as I've only had my ST phone and read the vzw phone being used on several carriers.

So are you saying that the actual bands are software based not hardware based. So all we have todo is flash the right ENG and ROM and wala I have right radios for my carrier?? US Based.

Yes, flashing the fw of the carrier loads the correct radio drivers. The radios are hardware based, but locked down by what the firmware has the instructions to look for and run.

Great explanation, I’m new to this stuff - we all have to start somewhere right?
So is root required to flash? The reason I ask is that I’d like to buy an S7 but I want to be able to WiFi hotspot tether without carrier provisioning and some versions of the phone allow it while I’m pretty sure others block that (like att)...By the way do you know which version would be best to flash to for WiFi tethering and ALL LTE bands made available? Thanks!

I use the hybrid rom that is loaded with vzw and debloated custom to my needs. It has tethering enabled. You'll just need to use root long enough to get the flashfire setup going and then once you're done it is unrooted. You'll have to check other threads regarding performance tweaks if you decide to stay rooted.

I thought the bootloader was locked on the Verizon S7 which doesn't allow rooting?... So rooting actually is possible on the Verizon S7?

Using the engineering kernel for nougat you can achieve toy, but it's buggy and slow since it wasn't meant to be used for daily devices. That's why the hybrid ton was developed to show some root uses without needing to keep root, like removing bloat permanently or getting the tethering service setup.

Flashing T-Mobile Rom on Verizon S7 Edge

Hey guys. I just bought a Verizon S7 Edge today and I've read online I can convert it to a full T-Mobile version with wifi calling, get updates, etc. Is there a guide to do this anywhere? I searched, but couldn't find it.
I wouldnt recoomend it. Once you flash the T-Mobile rom, you cannot go back to Verizon due to different bootloader versions, which means you will lose your warranty.

Wouldn't you be able to flash back to Verizon after? I'd like the wifi calling and upcoming updates for better lte speeds on T-Mobile.

No you will not be able to flash back to Verizon because T-Mobile is on bootloader v3 and Verizon is on v2. You cannot go down versions. It's entirely possible, in fact it's exactly what I did but I do regret the move. I would recommend flashing the U firmware which is the US unlocked version of the s7e. That will unlock pretty much all of the bands and you should be able to get wifi calling and you can flash back to Verizon.

Thanks, do you think the u firmware will get the updates for the 4x4 mimi etc that are coming to T-Mobile shortly for faster speeds? Also, is it possible Verizon will eventually go to a v3 bootloader and thus be able to flash back again? Do you have a link to the guide to be able to flash the U firmware?

Yes 4x4 mimo should be twice as fast as Tmobile. There's a chance that Verizon and U will be updated to bl3 but there's no way to know. Honestly I would flash U and stick with it.

-edit- Nevermind, I turned off the phone, put my sim card in, and restarted and it popped up. It wasn't showing up due to the fact I put the sim card in while the phone was on I guess.

Hii,
Sorry for the questions, but it would be really nice if you could help me.
I recently got a s7 edge verizon model as it was way cheaper. I wanted your inputs on flashing either the unlocked or tmobile version. i understand that U version is better as there is chance to revert to verizon ROM.
Sorry i do not know certain basic things.
Does verizon model have all bands and just verizon did not open them up??
Do u get all bands on U version that tmobile uses once you flash with U-version
Can u get tmobile wifi calling HD voice features on the U-version
Any other advantages and disadvantages of either version?
other than the bootloader v2 vs v3.
will i get get updates with tmobile and what about samsung pay and android pay?
will samsung pay and android pay work on flashed Unlocked ROMS, i do not intend on rooting the phone.
If i flash the tmobile version will it be tmobile sim locked ??

Flashing T Mobile firmware on ATT

So I have seen multiple people here on the forum claiming to do it or wanting to do it and I am a bit confused. I have an s7 edge on contract from ATT. Can I do this? If I flash T Mobile's firmware on this does this make my phone usable with a T Mobile sim?
Thank you

Can you advise the procedure? I'm currently permanently locked to AT&T network and would like to use a carrier (SK Telecom - Korea).
Wouldn't you still need to SIM unlock your AT&T phone to use on T-mobile network? I don't think just flashing another carriers ROM will allow you to use their network. Am I Wrong in thinking this way?

Flashing the phones firmware will not carrier unlock the device. That is tied to the IMEI. It will boot up the Tmobile software, but it still will only work on AT&T network.
Also in order to unlock the device from AT&T they will most likely bill you for the remaining value of the device as soon as you request an unlock code. You cannot take a phone from one carrier to another unless it is fully paid off.
I have an Unlocked AT&T S7 and I can put in a T-Mobile sim and it works. So why Flash T-Mobile onto an AT&T phone if its Unlocked??? My AT&T S7 is Paid for in Full.
My question is, if you do flash T-Mobile firmware on AT&T phone will you get OTA updates off of T-Mobile, like when Nougat comes out????? Also would you still have wifi calling and get all the LTE bands of a T-Mobile phone????

Yes. All the edge models have identical hardware. Their only differentiating factor is the firmware they run. I flashed the unlocked firmware onto my AT&T model and now get updates directly from Samsung. If you flash the T-mobile firmware on the AT&T device, all features will work and updates will come from T-Mobile. Same would work if you flash the AT&T firmware onto a T-Mobile variant. Or Verizon to Sprint, Sprint to AT&T, etc.

Well people on the S7 edge have flashed the tmo firmware on their AT&T models. Updates come from carrier on branded phones. So if you have an AT&T phone and flash another carriers firmware, it would only be branded by the physical logo on the back. It's like buying a Windows PC and installing Linux. The updates would come from Linux, not Windows, and vice versa. You could always go back to the AT&T firmware, just make sure that both firmwares you flash are on the same bootloader version.

Tmobile radio on US Cellular S7 Edge?

I got a S7 edge US Cellular branded from Walmart.. It is UNLOCKED. I put in my tmobile sim, I get lte, but, signal strength is low.
Is it possible to flash Tmobile software on this phone? The reason is I am not getting any strong signals (inspite of it supporting all corresponding LTE bands from Tmobile). Has anyone tried?
what options do I have? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

US cellular is just G935U I believe. You can just download the tmobile firmware, stick it in Oden and press flash. I suggest you to try flashing only the modem from the T firmware and use 935U firmware for everything else.

Is your US Cellular G935U? I bought a used one/unlocked -not in Walmart though- and it shows G935R4. I guess I will brick my device if I flash the Tmobile firmware. The problem that I have it show 4glte and speeds are amazing, however there are no bars shown. When I get a call, it shows bars and makes the calls with no issues. SMS works great.

It is the same one I got from Walmart. I flashed the T-Mobile firmware and the phone rocks. It's a seamless process if you have some basic knowledge of flashing. I can help you if needed. Please let me know... thanks.

Thanks, I actually flashed the T-Mobile firmware and it worked pretty well. It failed when I tried to use an older version of Odin. Once you used the most recent one, it's flawless and with no issues.

I actually just flashed TMO version via Odin, so far, all seems to be working fine. Does the U version support HD voice/ VOLTE/ Wifi calling on tmobile?

VOLTE on AT&T with Unlocked S8

I ordered my S8 unlocked direct from Samsung. I see that it does not by default have VOLTE available. Is there any way to get that enabled on AT&T?

Does my bootloader need to be unlocked? In the end, I'm not sure if it is necessarily worth the bloatware to get this feature. Any ideas what other benefits there may be to the AT&T firmware?

Don't need to touch bootloader. Users here report that even after flashing AT&T firmware, you may also need to get an IMEI off of one of the devices from AT&T store and possibly provide it to tech support so they can add it to your account. I also know for example there are other firmware versions, that are from AT&T, but without carriers bloatware, check on them too.
Just read/ask questions and you will get your questions answered.

Flashing T-mobile firmware on Verizon s10+

Hello,
I had a s8+ and I was able to re-brand it from AT&T to T-mobile; although I don't remember the exact process. I recently got an S10+ Verizon from my boss and I have it carrier unlocked and running on T-mobile. I was wondering if you can flash T-Mobile branded firmware so I can get access to WiFi Calling and the built in visual voicemail. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yes you can. I don't think there is a inbuilt visual voicemail on the t mobile branded devices. I had to install from the play store.

Yes, I have done it. I ended up going to non-branded firmware. As soon as you put your sim in, it installs visual voicemail....at least it did for me.

Where did you get the instructions to do this? Is it just a matter of grabbing the modified odin and flashing the firmware?

Correct. You can find the download links here on the forum or use SamFirm to download the firmware and odin to flash.

Thank you. Do you know if the hardware is the same for the verizon and tmobile phones? with it just unlocked and with the tmobile chip the signal wasn't as high. I'm hoping when I flash it with t-mobile firmware it flashes the radios to use the tmobile bands as well.

Yes, you get the correct bands. I compared before and after.
