my htc 816 always going on speaker - Desire 816 General

I have rooted my phone an year back and was using it without any issues. Now recently i wanted to cast the screen and installed some mirroring app. But then as it didn't work, i removed it. But then i observed that since then my phone is always going on speaker mode. In fact "Speaker On/Off" button has no effect at all while on the call.
Also bluetooth though detects the device, does not send out the audio signal to that device and remains on the speaker mode. Even headset after connecting shows the headset icon in the notification bar but music is played on speaker phone only.
Initially i thought it could be internal speaker issue but then even BT and headset are not working, which hints me that it could be software issue.
Has anyone faced something similar? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

You could try just rebooting your phone and or wiping your cache and dalvik cache in recovery but that probably won't do much but you could try. Last resort I would back up all my apps using Titanium Backup/ Super Backup and Google's own backup options in your settings then try a factory reset. Will wipe your phone except for internal data storage and ext SD card but might also correct what the issue is but it might not if this app somehow had root privileges and changed something in your system but didn't remove it when you uninstalled it. Wish I had a better option but that app did something to your phone I'm pretty sure of it. Make sure Google had your phone numbers and contacts backed up automatically or you will need to back those up separately with TB.

If those mirroring/casting apps used root access and modified some files in your ROM, Then you can try one thing, just navigate to /etc You should see mixer_paths.xml file, This file handles all sound routing, and i guess those apps modified this only. If this is the case, those apps definitely kept a backup of original file in same directory.

Thoctor and Sahil.bhardwaj, thank you very much for your help. Actually i tried factory reset but it didn't help. So i unrooted the phone and guess what? It started working perfect. Any ways i wanted to give it to my Dad who does not need unlocked phone so i can live with it now and can experiment with my newly bought Qiku 360!
Sahil bro, actually your comment come little late so didn't get the chance to check that out, but logically it makes sense as long as the developer of the app is well matured to take the backup of mixer_paths.xml or any system files for that matter.

The sound has gone...like completely

Hey everyone this is my first post so i apologise if this problem has been discussed at length already.
Ok so my current problem is that my htc hd2 wont make any sound whatsoever when using the rear speaker (so thats any ringing from incoming calls, notifications, videos, music etc..). I have played with the sound settings relentlessly but can't seem to change its current state and I have also done several hard resets. However, when accepting a phone call or when a pair of headphones are inserted into the handset the sound goes through fine, leading me to suspect that it is the rear speaker which is the problem (My speakerphone after accepting a call also doesnt work).
On two occasions I have been playing music on it in hopes for a sign of life and have had sound on very sharp bursts (no more then 2 seconds). In terms of any programs or updates that I have installed on to my handset I havent done anything but apply the updates from the HTC support website.
The problem ocurred on day 2 of using this handset and I have also sent an email to mobiles.co.uk to ask about a replacement handset. However I was having a lot of fun with this phone and wanted to keep it if it could be solved myself so if anybody has any ideas it would be very much appreciated!
Thanks
Try a hard reset. If the problem persists after that, it's certainly hardware related.
Same thing happened to my HD2 today, all sounds just stopped working for some reason, music player ring tone, notifications, everything, did a hard reset and everything works again, it is a bit worrying when it just happened out of the blue like that.

Did you accidentally turn the volume down using the button on the side of the device? Stupidly, system volume can be adjusted using this button.

Yes it can. It either changes both system and ringtone together (if you only use 1), or you have a tab for both (if you use both volumes), as per the sound and display settings in the settings tab.
No, that was the first thing that I checked, I have the single volume unchecked as well.

I find the single volume the better option, less chance of this kind of thing happening. Other than that, it sounds like you have either installed a tweak or combination of tweaks which are not compatible or you have a hardware fault.

No sound during calls or when media plays

My MyTouch 1.2 is acting really frustratingly stupid. The speaker and mic aren't working right, and the closest solution (and explanation) I could find for this was a post I found on a T-Mobile forum:
A few weeks back I tried to make a call on my phone and I wanted to use the speaker, when I brought up the menu to select "speaker", I noticed that the option was greyed out and so I couldn't enable it. After that I looked at the screen and it said it was dialing, but I heard no sound coming out. Next I clicked the volume control all the way down to mute and then all the way to max volume, still no sound. After ending the call I double-checked to make sure I wasn't connected to any bluetooth device, bluetooth was disabled. So then I tried to change the ringer volume and the speaker emitted its beeps letting me know how loud the ring volume was. That told me the speakers worked as well as the hardware responsible for generating sound. My next idea was to see if the media player had sound, so I played an mp3 from my sd card, no sound, went to youtube and played a few different videos, no sound. Called my friend, who was standing next to me, and when he answered he said he couldn't hear me speaking, I couldn't hear him either.
Something was seriously wrong with my phone so I bit the bullet and reset it to factory settings, the problem persisted. I took the phone to a TMobile store and they got me a replacement phone. The phone was working for 3 days and then the same problem occured. I got another phone (my 3rd phone) and this morning it has stopped working in the exact same way. I don't do any hacks or developer apps. There is no pattern to this except that it always seems like I'm at work when it happens.
UPDATE WITH SOLUTION: After thinking about this issue it occurred to me that the phone was behaving as if it had a bluetooth device connected to it. As an experiment, I went to my car which is paired with my phone and selected the audio source as my phone. At first it couldn't connect to my phone. So I looked at my phone's bluetooth setting and the status for my car's connection was "paired and not connected". I selected the connection on phone and retried with my car and bam, audio now works. I disconnected the phone from the bluetooth and sound was restored! So mytouch 3g has a bug in their bluetooth services. TMobile/HTC, hit me up if you are looking for a top-notch developer to fix your defects.

Unfortunately, this solution didn't work for me, and I've tried pairing it with every device I could possibly pair it with. No dice. Anyone have a fix for this?

[Q] Multiple sound related issues (call + backspeaker)

Hi there XDA!
I've been searching and searching to try to find a fix for these issues, without luck. So in my desperation i turn to you.
First issue:
When I call or receive a call, I can hear my own voice and my own sounds without any issues. However - the person calling or being called can't hear anything from my end.
Microphone loops back to front-speaker?
SOLVED!
No idea how the issue was solved, but somehow it now works as per usual
Second issue:
Back speaker doesn't work. Considering headset and bluetooth headset works, I've been thinking that considering its a mechanical function that registers if a headset is plugged in, this is stuck.
Could it be any other issues?

Sounds to me like you need to send it back for repair
For some reason the "loopback"-issue sorted itself out. No idea what I actually did, but somehow it now works

Yup, been thinking about it. Just wanted to see if anyone else have had similar back/loud-speaker issues.
I have the same problem with my omnia 7. About two days ago, I completely lost the ring, alarm, message, game sounds. If I plug in a headset, the sounds are there.
And just today I experienced the microphone loopback issue the first time. I turn of the phone, remove the battery for a minute, insert it back and turn on the phone. The loopback issue was gone. May be it would have gone by itself if I waited but I was pissed of because the phone already lost all other sounds.
I was in and out of meetings and plane flights the day before I recognize the sounds are lost. So I switched the airplane mode on and of couple times, and switch between ring and vibrate numerous times. I wonder if that could have triggerred this problem.
I wonder if a hard reset or poking the headphone slot could resolve this problem.
So i have no solution yet, and hope someone will come up with a solution.
Thanks
Problem Solved
I was playing with some diagnostic codes from a website I found on the internet, I noticed there is a "Melody Test\Test External and Internal Speaker" which you can access by typing *#0289# while inside the diagnostic mode. While inside this melody test application I pressed the option 1. Speaker [L-R] ON and option 2. Receiver ON. I dont know which option did it but suddenly a ring tone started coming from the speaker.
I closed the diagnostic app and return to the main menu and now my ringtones, game sounds start working. Hopefully this will be a real solution not a temporary one.
Note:if it not listed in the app list, to get in to the diagnostic mode press ##634# from the phone pad.
Also note: I tried to post the link of the page which contains all the diagnostic codes of omnia but the xda forum would not allow me to post a link outside because I am a new user. The page i found was on wp7forum website

Good suggestion! Although, from what I can hear, that re-routes all music and such to the front speaker ("ear piece")?
I guess you are right. And also after a soft reset the sounds are gone again. Bummer

Update! Now it is working
Hi all,
For the last couple of days I have been searching and reading eveything I could find. And today I messed around with the sound diagnostics tool, plugged in and out a headphone jack probably hundred times but nothing worked. So I gave up. But i forgat to turn off the Music that was playing on the background while i was messing with the phone so that if it started working i would know.
My phone was in my pants pocket, and while i was hanging my pants, the phone slipped and fell on the carpet. And suddenly a loud music started playing. The music i set to play before. And now everything is working fine, all sounds. Even after soft reset.
So maybe it was the stuck headphone slot after all, i dont know.
But now i am afraid the sounds will go again if i drop it again.
Had the same problem... wife said no ringtone. Due to the poor positioning of the power button and volume rocker on opposite sides of the phone, she had gradually turned the volume down, one point by one.
Think simple faults first!

I really wish my problem was that simple. There is something wrong with my back speaker. Some loose connection I guess.
Every now and then I realize the ring tones (and other sounds) are not working. And when I tap around where the back speaker is (back of the phone, top right) strongly with my fingertip several times, the sound is back again. Everyday I have this loop at least 10 times.

Speakerphone Problem

Hi guys,
Yesterday, I did a bunch of changes/updates to the phone, and later in the night realized the speakerphone isn't working. However, the problem is just with phone calls - the earpiece works fine, but when I switch to the speakerphone, the noise comes out for a very brief moment, and then silence. Music player and other apps play thru the speaker just fine.
So, it seems the problem is s/w related, not h/w. The things that I did are
- rooted
- installed TWRP
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670
- Tether hack
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2493978
- Ran CleanTOOL
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451021
Checked all settings that I can think of. Speakerphone volume is set to top level. I am stumped.
Any clues? Help very much appreciated.
Currently, I am still running stock. I guess flashing another ROM or stock image might solve the problem, but don't want to go thru reinstalling and configuring apps again.
Thanks for your input.

Hi,
Can you be spesific about which changes other than install those files? Would help if I knew.
Try toggling Bluetooth on/off.

Update
I tried restarting the phone a few times, turning the volume up and down, but couldn't make it work. Today afternoon, on a call, I turned on the speakerphone, and it started working. I don't know what happened that fixed it.
Thanks for the replies.

Sound output disabled while sleeping (S7 Edge G935F)

Hello gals and guys, you are my last hope.
I have a Galyxy S7 Edge G935F bought in Germany with no sim lock, i got it with G935FXXU1APAW, updated to G395FXXU1APC8. Yesterday i rooted it with CF-Auto-Root-hero2lte-hero2ltexx-smg935f based on XXU1APBF. I still have stock recovery.
The Problem:
Sometimes, while sleeping, the phone disables all sound.
This happens mostly while recharging, but it happened also while simply sleeping and not recharging. It is not reliably reproducable, sometimes the phone works for 2 or 3 days without the error occurring. Which makes the error very hard to find of course.
Sound off means: No media output is working (games, video, music), notifications are not sounding only vibrate, the phone doesn't ring when someone calls, just vibrates. No calls and notifications means, this is very severe.
When i plug in earphones or headphones, there is also no sound on the headphones. Putting in and pulling out the headphones does not reactivate the sound, so it seems not to be a problem with the headphone jack. The jack is very loose, though, doesnt hold the headphones strongly; but thats another problem.
The sound can be reactivated by the following:
- rebooting
- calling someone (i used to call my provider) or getting called (the first call gets lost, but when i get a second call, it works again)
- i installed an app called SoundAbout, which lets me route the sound to different outputs. I must first route media output to "earpiece" (the small loudspeaker you hold on your ear during calls) and then route the media back to "Speaker". Only this combination reactivates the sound again. Just activating "Speaker" or any other combination like for example first "Wired Phones" and then "Speaker" does not work. It must be "earpiece" and then "Speaker".
What i tried, without success:
- deleted all bluetooth devices
- disabled bluetooth
- enabled "prevent USB audio routing" in dev options
- uninstalled all kinds of apps having to do with sound or lockscreen
- played with all kinds of settings having to do with sound or lockscreen
I searched everywhere. A call to Samsung was not very helpful either. I might have to try a factory reset after all, but even if its good at factory, i still won't know the culprit.
But since the problem can be solved via software, i suspect it is software related or is at least diagnoseable via software.
Of course, it would be insanely awesome when someone could just present me the solution, but i would do all the debugging myself, if i only could.
I am a developer myself, but only on windows. My experiences on linux don't go much further than doing an "ls -la" on commandline and i am a total noob on android. I will not be afraid of using a terminal or adb, as long as i am guided a bit.
I hope, somebody can point me out how to diagnose and this thing.
Can one diagnose the current state of audio routing ? Can i manipulate it via commandline ? Are there other relevant components which i need to query ?
Could i write a script that pulls those queries every minute or so ?
And finally, if the wrong settings are found, are there log files which can point out who messed with those settings. Which apps would you recommend for those actions ?
Thanks to everyone in advance ...
Correction
just getting called doesn't fix anything. Only when i accept the call it gets fixed and then the next call rings again, of course. So this means, while the bug is active, i miss all calls.
