Who has moved from a S6 Edge+ Plus to S7 Edge? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

should I upgrade to this from Galaxy S6 Edge+ Plus or nah?

I am also in the same boat!!
Preordered s7 edge but cancelled it after getting MM on my s6 edge plus. Not able to convince my self the price difference I have to spend for features (water proof, sdcard) which are not deal breakers. Camera is not big but considerable improvement but not worth the difference. Battery life also not a huge bump from the results I have been seeing here. I am getting solid full day and 4-5 hrs SOT with heavy usage on s6 edge+
I am skipping as of now

Yeah when i get MM update to my Galaxy S6 Edge Plus then it could look the same as S7, its only water proof and SD card. Camera mostly the same i think.
Looks like your right.
you waiting for Galaxy S8 Edge?

Yes, or maybe Note 6... definitely not S7 edge

There's just not a big enough bump to justify it.

Not on the S6 Edge+ but on the S6 Edge. Debating if I should still get it. (Only if I can get it unlocked from Verizon if I ever plan to switch to T-Mobile like this link says: http://www.sammobile.com/2016/02/25...-will-carrier-lock-to-the-first-inserted-sim/)

UK shop has unlocked galaxy S7 from carphone warehouse, i don't understand why US locked the bootloader.

I wouldn't jump if I had a s6+ edge... I'm coming from Note Edge (note 4) so it will be a big jump for me. How long of a time gap between S6+ and S7?

Carrier locked is different from locked bootloader :good:

I also didn't want to upgrade to S7 edge after I tried it in Samsung store yesterday.. I have felt more comfortable to use S6 edge+ than S7 edge and only minor upgrade in terms of hardware (water resistant, micro SD, 20% larger battery). I am going to keep my S6 edge+ until 2017.

S6 edge+ together with Note 5 were released on August 2015 and S7 with S7 edge were on February 2016.

I got the s6 edge+ in September of last year and just got my s7 edge on the 3rd. The extra storage space is great because the 25 with the s6 wasnt ever enough. The camera is amazing more than incremental upgrade. It is slightly heavier but feels better in one hand since the back is rounded. The edge screen has also been updated for better functionality. I am glad to have upgraded.

since I go to the beach a lot water resistant is a plus for me. i might upgrade or just wait till the note 6 comes out which im sure it will be water resistant too

battery test Review show Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ Plus battery last longer then Galaxy S7 Edge battery!
so Galaxy S6 Edge Plus has a longer battery life then Galaxy S7 Edge.
Even Galaxy S7 Edge battery is bigger on paper. (spec sheet).
Real life test show the performance are about the same when opening app's.
Web browser about the same aswell. not a big difference.
in games Galaxy S7 is 1 second faster or same as Galaxy S6 Edge+.
Camera is about the same aswell. not big difference.
you only need Galaxy S7 if you walking alot and it could rain anytime. or if your working out doors.
or Installing alot of games, movies, MP3 files.
Not really worth it otherwise.

Note 5 has same spec's as (Galaxy S6 Edge Plus) Vs Galaxy S7 Edge Speed test.
this is bad news for the new phones coming out. performance is same or Half a second difference.

I'll be posting a comparison shortly but I have both of them here and I've been testing a bit.
Few notes:
- The s7 edge seems a bit faster overall but has some weird lag spikes once in a while that were not present on s6 edge+
- Overall the s7 camera does seem superior, in a few daylight instances you can notice lack of detail but overall the contrast and colors are far better
- App launch speed seems the same, but the s6 edge+ sometimes beats out my s7 edge
- Webpage loading: same results as the app launching, sometimes the edge+ beats out the s7 edge
- Display: The color calibration on these 2 devices are pretty different, I feel like the colors are better on my s7 edge but the viewing angles are worse, with a green tint becoming noticeable > 40 degrees
- Battery Testing: I'm only on day 2 so I can't comment much on the s7 edge battery. I ran some benchmarks and found the s6 edge+ and s7 edge are near identical with video and web browsing battery performance. However, when it comes to gaming/3d rendering, there is a major difference. The s6 edge+ was draining 5x as fast as the s7.
My s7 edge is SD820 variant on Verizon.

you have SnapDragon 820 chipset? i heard battery is less then galaxy S6 Edge+ Plus.
Exynos 8890 should be better for battery life.

I've heard the same too. I'm interested to see some tests/see if there could be a fix for this "android system bug".
But in terms of day to day usage they seem identical in battery right now. Doze doesn't seem to work with AoD either, I lost 10% battery over the night. ugh. That said, I'm pretty disappointed in the battery performance, I'm hoping a future update could address some of the issues. Surely a 3600mAh should be getting more than 3.5 hours SoT.

link below shows the galaxy S7 battery which is sad when looking at the Galaxy S7/edge snapdragon 820 compared to the rest of the flagship devices.
http://bgr.com/2016/03/08/galaxy-s7-battery-life-vs-iphone-6s/

I am fortunate enough to be in possession of both the S6 Edge+ and the S7 Edge. One of my contracts was eligible for an upgrade so I got one with a possibility to change my phone.
After 3 days fair use I have decided to keep the S6 Edge+
As gorgeous as the S7 Edge is - and I mean that, there is something not quite right and I can't put my finger on it. When I pick up my S6 Edge+ it just feels better, more premium even.
The S7 is an upgrade but it's a minor one. It has a better battery and faster charging which is a good thing. It takes better low light photos but the overall quality of images I take on the S6 Edge+ are stunning and I really don't see too much difference with the S7. Then there's the SD card slot. Well I have a 64Gb S6 Edge+ and It still has loads of space available. The S7 has only 32Gb storage of which is taken up by a lot of system files and bloatware. An SD card slot you'd think would take on some of your apps, but I found very few that were allowed to be moved. So the memory card is going to be useful for your media but little else. It was also a bit of a pain getting permissions to access the card by other file managers. The screen isn't much smaller than the S6E+ but due to the brilliant way Samsung has shrunk the casing, it doesn't feel smaller, you only really notice it being narrower in use.
The S7 is a great phone, absolutely and those coming from an older phone would be more than happy with the upgrade. But the S6 Edge+ is still an amazing phone and is still a flagship without a doubt. It is a keeper and until the Note 6 makes an appearance I am happy to call it one of Samsung's best phones available right now.

But it is not waterproof. And that is for me a major plus, my wife has an xperia z3 we don't use but it in the summer (because of dust and water in the beach, ayou know).
Another point is memory card I personally happen to havean s6 for as little as month, and I had to trade it for a G4, why is that? Because I'm an xda enthousiast, and flashing roms kernels and stuff with only internal roms is less funny, as when hou commit an error (and god we commit a lot) you sometimes lose you data, and have hard time copy roms to flash into the phone when there is no system installed. You must go through odin again.
Long story short : those 2 features are more than a small upgrade to me.
Plus, for the first time since G3, I hold a device that has a screen big enought but still manage to be small enough in the hand to not notice it's a 5.5"
Envoyé de mon SM-T800 en utilisant Tapatalk

I had the S6 Edge+ and did upgrade to the S7 Edge. But my upgrade cost was very low, so that is not a big factor for me. Putting on all my work apps (all need provisioning from corporate) is the bigger issue.
Have had it for a week+ (T-Mobile shipped very early). So far for me it's been a meaningful upgrade, Battery life is better. Phone is faster and I don't see it stuttering like my S6E+ did. Bluetooth to my Moto 360 is rock solid (the S6E+ would drop the connection several times an hour, which also created a bad bluetooth experience with streaming audio in the truck).
While I really like the size, my old eyes do miss the slightly smaller screen, however text does "fit" better on the S7 Edge.
My perfect phone would be (although physically impossible) a 6.5 inch screen that fits on this phone without increasing the size (yes I know impossible), but that would do it for me. Oh and give me 128 or 256 Gig internal memory and a SD slot.

Now that Samsung Galaxy S7 is here, how does it effects the scope of your Galaxy S6?

Well, Samsung did pull an Apple here. The launch of S7 felt like a bloated launch of iPhone 6s series. While not much changed on the outer shell of the phone, a lot of cool stuff got introduced inside the phone. :silly:
Waterproofing - IP68
SD Card is back
Insanely improved Camera with Dual Pixel auto focus and f1.7 lens
New display with Always on tech
A beastly processor upgrade - CPU/GPU brings significant gains over 7420
3000mAh of love.
IMHO, I feel that S6 was more of a pilot version on which S7 is banking with several upgrades above it.

So, are you planning to upgrade to S7 or any worthy competitor like LG G5 or maybe even Xiaomi Mi5 (awesome VFM)? Also, given the poor tracks record of Samsung with software updates, do you think we will receive all software goodness and maybe an Always-on implementation (AMOLED, should be possible)?
No, actually i'm very happy with my S6, if do upgrade this year i will go for iPhone 7 if not then next year probably to S8(i had HTC and IMO LG UI's ugly)
1. only thing IMO worth upgrading to S7
2. 32gb is more than enough for me so no need for slow SD cards
3. I have DSLR for photos, phone camera is mostly used for instagram
4. It's probably only software that enables Always on display, since both are amoled
5. S6 is already pretty fast and lag less
6. Now that is awesome
I'm happy with my S6. The S7 looks nice and I'll probably update to it in seven or eight months, but for now I'm perfectly content.
I like Edge. I wanted to buy Edge+ but when i saw it in my hand poooof it was ugly IMHO! But Edge is very nice again IMO. So i stay with S6 Edge because 5.5 inch edge it is not nice.
No ir blaster is a deal breaker. Going to wait for the note 6 and pray it has one. If not then going to wait for the s8 and once again pray it has one.

Nah, I'm waiting for new Nexus, until then I will use S6 with AOSP
I think s7 is rather targeted at s5 owners, so it is not a downgrade in ip68 and sdcard for them

Who has moved from a Note 5 to S7 Edge?

Thinking about making the move. I can get an upgrade cheaply. Don't use the S-Pen.
Things that mostly interest me:
Is the scrolling performance improved over Note 5?
Battery time should be better?
I'm making the switch if and when at&t finally ships the phone. I love my Note 5 and I buy every Note on release. I use the Spen but looking forward to something different.
I hope the battery improves, I'm a heavy user and I'm always out of the office. I need solid battery performance.
As for overall performance my Note barely ever stutters. I expect the same or better with the S7E.

I just sold my note5 for s7 edge. I never used the s pen and 0.2" difference in display isn't a big deal for me. I rather have water proof and 600mah larger battery instead. Can't wait to get my s7 edge lol
Yup, I moved from a Note 5 to S7E. Tmobile JOD, might as well, already got my phone for 3 days.
Scrolling is actually poorer than Note 5 (using chrome and firefox, stock internet browser is fine), lots of lags. I don't know why, early firmware issue I hope.
Battery life is a lot better than Note 5, although right now my S7E have a huge Android System drain (at over 35%), but even with the drain, I can finish my day with 50-60% battery, while with the note 5 I'm at ~40% ish. Standby time is hugely improved, dropping around 0.5-1% per hr, while on Note 5 it's around 1.5-2% for me. I had a similar Android System drain on the Note 5 as well...not sure if Tmobile ROM or...
Extremely annoyed why samsung phones always have "Android System" and "Android OS" drains, these battery should be able to last over 2 days on a single charge. Right now with the drain I got around 30 hours out of the S7E on a single charge. Note 5 battery for me was horrible. 3000mah does not cut it.
Bluetooth connects to my car A LOT quicker than note 5. No clue why...no new bluetooth standard was introduced in the S7E far as I know...but now it connects within 2 seconds, whereas note 5 takes around 7-8 seconds.
Phone now heats up more uniformly instead of at one spot, probably due to that heatpipe design. The screen is smaller, and it's actually a very noticeable difference coming from note 5 although its only 0.2", because now I can clearly see less stuff on the same webpage on the S7E compared to the note, I can see about 4-5 lines more of text on my note 5 than S7E on the same webpage. Also my icons appears packed closer to each other as well. By putting the S7E on top of my note 5 I can see the phone is about the same width as the note 5, but shorter, so I guess that's the reason why I see less stuff, which makes sense, but still feel a bit annoying that I somehow got downgraded. Wish I could manually change the system scaling setting.

Hmmm, that makes me think twice for sure. I guess the system DPi setting is different on top of the screen size being smaller. Lag being worse I guess will be sorted out sooner or later. Perhaps better to wait out until the Note 6,but then I'll have to pay full amount.
To answer OPs question
I've come from a Note5
A) I haven't noticed any major difference in lag or scrolling, If I had to choose, I would give the edge to the S7 Edge.
B) Battery life is better I'm pretty sure. I have everything enabled, Bluetooth / Wifi / S Voice / NFC / auto brightness on medium / Always On Screen and I just hit 50% with 15 hr standby and 2 hours screen on time. And I haven't even really started tweaking and disabling applications yet. If I disabled a bunch of features I'm pretty sure this thing would last 2 days.
Also on topic, I tested the Nand Storage on the Note5 vs the S7 Edge and the write speeds are much better on the s7 Edge.

Thanks for the input so far guys, much appreciated.
Maybe I should put the question more bluntly: those that have moved on, was it a good choice? Are you happy with the move? Yes/No, why.
Keep in mind folks, the note 5 worldwide was exynos. The S7 edge for t-mobile and USA variants are snapdragon 820. The new exynos could be better for scrolling and lagless.

no choice on getting the snapdragon version internationally???
Im getting exynos which i prefer and usually gives better batterylife

The scroll improved a lot from note 5. When you scroll inside Facebook and lots of app using note 5, its stutter a lot, but using gs7 it's very smooth just as nexus phones. You can check videos I posted.

I really like the S7 Edge but after 4 days I do kind of miss my Note 5 a little. What annoys me on the S7 Edge is you pretty much have to get a case because if not you'll accidentally touch things on the edge of the phone since the phone is so thin. At least that's my experience. Maybe I have bigger fingers. lol I got a clear tpu case and like it but miss the feel of the phone. I miss the screen on the Note 5 but I like the size of the S7 Edge for the summer. At first the S7 seemed a lot better scrolling then Note 5 but yesterday it wasn't. I need to get rid of some bloat that might have been slowing it down. I'll probably keep the S7 but I'll be making my decision on day 13.
Someone from Oculus said the VR looks better with the S7 vs the Edge. I have a VR that I've used with the Note 5 but haven't used it with the S7 Edge. I'm thinking the difference probably isn't that noticeable to most people.
I made the switch!! It's not super different than the note 5. The main reason I did the switch is just for the battery and the snapdragon processor. It also feels better in the hand. Yes it has better battery and scrolling, not a lot but just enough to make the switch.
Definitely happy with it.
I have a note 5, but preordered an S7 Edge...
I'm still on the fence though. I really like the note 5 (and marshmallow looks like it fixed a few annoyances for me).
But I like that the S7 Edge has a bigger battery, and water resistance. And I don't use the spen much, so that isn't a factor.
I may cancel my pre-order, not sure yet.

I'm in the same boat, the camera of S7 have double sided reports and i'm not convinced now that moving to s7 edge is good.

Xiaomi Mi 5 vs S7/Edge battery life rating - what's going on ?

Hello,
Just read the new Xiaomi Mi 5 (Snapdragon 820) review at GSMArena and it got a battery rating of 92h, whereas the Galaxy S7 got only an 80h rating and the S7 Edge managed to obtain 98h (both S7 and S7 Edge tested were Exynos, imagine what ratings would they got if they were the SD820 editions...). The web browing score of the Mi 5 was like 30% higher than that of the S7. Both Mi5 and S7 have 5.1" screens and 3000 mAh batteries.
This leads me to believe that:
- Either there is something wrong with the initial firmware of the Samsung devices (unoptimized web browser ?) that could be fixed with some updates, because I believe that the 3000mAh in the S7 and 3600 in the S7 Edge could be capable of much more, given the numbers put out by the new competition.
- Or maybe Samsung did something wrong hardware-wise ?
Given the Mi5 battery result, I am now expecting the LG G5 to produce a similar or better rating. These kind of ratings are what I have expected from 2016 devices, the S7 and S7 Edge (even the Exynos versions) disappointed my quite a bit in this area (although I did purchase an Exynos S7 Edge).
Here is the battery life section of the review:
http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_5-review-1411p3.php
What do you think ? Is there room for major battery life improvement with updates on the S7/Edge ?
Maybe u should stop comparing full hd screen to quad hd... then re think that again

Maybe they were using a bug ridden S7 Edge like many of us. My S7 Edge battery isn't no where near what it should be. All I'm saying is Samsung better get an update out by next Saturday. If not, this phone is going back and I'll be waiting on the new LG or HTC.

Idle drain is a big percentage of the score.

To buy or wait?

I was looking forward to buying the samsung note 7 this December as a gift from me to me. I had done my research and was simply waiting for the holiday's. And then poooooof it all goes up in smokes.
I am now back to square 1. What's the next best thing? The Samsung Galaxy 7 Edge was something I was considering and I think it is something I read in regards to the curved edges that put me off. Thoughts?
I need a phone with a good camera as I travel quite a bit. Internal storage as well as the ability to add the extra storage is a must as I use the phone a lot for work.
Previous phones have included nexus 4&5, LG, Z3 & Samsung 6. I was looking into the Pixel but like all other Google phones, you don't have the ability to add an sd card
Recommendations?
S7 camera is like good compact (amazing camera ever). 32 GB internal might not be the best, but u can use microSD. It depends. If u want to wait for perfect phone, that might never come, but S7/S7E is good option. For now and future.
S7/Edge is great but it's so close to all the new models from oems I'd wait and see what comes
At this point, if the S8 comes out in early March, it might be best to hold off. Otherwise, the Pixel XL is awesome. Might want to try that.
I think you'll get buyers remorse if you buy an s7 now as the s8 is so close away, and with the pixel if 128gb can suffice for you it's a really awesome phone, camera is just a hair worse than s7e which IMO has the best mobile camera atm
If your budget is not limited, than wait for s8, otherwise you can buy the s7 edge for a low price and I would buy the s7 edge
Great battery
Great camera
Great performance
Great display
Expandable storage
...
Wait for S8 or buy the Pixel (XL ?) or OnePlus 3T
Greatly appreciate everyone's input. At the price that the Pixel is going for in Aus (aprox $1400 for the 128gb), I might as well wait for the samsung 8
I upgraded to the S7 Edge after I saw the price and issues associated with the Note 7 too. I had a Note 4 and to be honest the price I ended up getting the S7 Edge at definitely contributed to my purchase.
If you've got an S6 right now, the S7 Edge is only slightly faster in my experience and the camera is better, but the s6 still has a stellar camera (brother had one for a bit).
If you can get the S7 Edge for a good price (I paid £400 for mine back in June, hence why I bought it) then I'd get it.
The S8 will run of course be expensive to begin with, but it will also drop like the S7, so if you CAN wait, then go for the S8, if not, find the S7E at a good price and you won't be disappointed.
got an S7 Edge today online. Will be delivered to me in the next few days. Only reason is cuz my beloved Note 4 sm-N910G died on me At first i thought it was the battery, so i brought a new original battery from eBay but hence... no cigar. It still wouldn't turn on or recharge. Now i'm thinking how good is the S7 Edge compared to the late 2014, early 2015 flagship Note 4 ?

From S6 to S8. Is it worth the upgrade?

Hey guys.
I have the Galaxy S6 and I'm wondering if it is worth to upgrade from S6 to S8.
I've been using the S6 for quite some time, and now they launched Android Nougat (7.0) to the Galaxy S6, which I am currently using the official version.
But, I am wondering if I should upgrade to the Galaxy S8 (Non Plus) variant.
I'm in love with s8's screen.
If you can, please post a "reason" why I should or not be upgrading.
Thanks!

Better SOC, better graphics, better screen, more ram, more memory 64gb, sd card, better battery, better camera front and back, usb C, better performance overall......BUT if you didn't see all this already and you're still in doubt, might be that it doesn't worth the upgrade for you.
I did this. Battery almost 2x, Speed great, too.

Same here. Switched from S6 Edge. It is a major upgrade in every way, just like OP said. No regrets.

I upgraded from the S6 Edge to the S8
As the title says I upgraded from the s6 edge and let me tell you it is worth the upgrade! :good:
Not least of all the S8 is waterproof, having paid £250 to repair a water damaged s6 edge last year i think its worth upgrading for this reason alone.
I like the fact the finger print scanner is on the back - it never made sense to me that it was on the front in the first place.
Face unlocker is fast to react.
And I am just chumping at the bit to get a DEX like dock (however at this point not willing to pay £110 for it).
Interesting comments.
I am really tempted into upgrading it. Since my S6 sometimes struggle when I'm scrolling on Chrome or Facebook, and I'm too far down.
I think it is time for that upgrade!
Is the battery really enough? I mean.. 3000 mAH on the S8.

Battery life has been a mixed bag for me - I'm not quite seeing as good a result as I've seen many post but it's likely due to varying conditions. It definitely gets better life than my S6 - I wouldn't make it to Noon with that and I start my day, off the charger at 430am. With the S8, I get through the entire day, no problem but might need a hit from the fast charger if I do some browsing after dinner...

Well you can upgrade but i recommend waiting for another phone with the same SOC...
My dad bought the S8 and is pretty meh...Narrow design, same screen as the s6 just bigger and slightly higher res which makes it looks strange...camera is the same as an S6 on good light conditions and slightly better on dark conditions...Figerprint positioning is absurd...Battery is not that good...SOC is newer but you wont notice any difference unless you try hard...And the price is way too high for whats is worth...
I dont want to start a new thread but i am wondering the same but i am coming from a oneplus one.. again is their any bonus in upgrading.. and how is development for samsung devices
i went from s6 edge + to s8. Very happy so far. the form factor fits better in the hand, software is fine. I like the back being glass. good feel overall.
A BIG YES. I upgrade from a s7 edge and to me it was so worth it
If you like the S6 and want to stay with Samsung, I'd say yes. Otherwise, I'd say wait until more info is available on the Google Pixel 2.
It's such a large upgrade from the S6 it's silly to even have to talk about all the reasons why. For comparison, the S8+ made the S7 Edge seem very dated. There is no comparison, unless you like old, slow phones with far inferior displays, memory size, camera..... I could go on. Not even in the same ballpark. By far the best phone made to date - S8/S8+. That changes every 6 months or so with a new phone taking the crown, but right now this is the top dog.
Agree, S8&S8+ are top-of-the-foodchain!
How are the lags on the S8? Because on the S6 when I'm scrolling in chrome or facebook I get lags. Usual android thing. That's what making me wonder if I should wait iphone 8 or get the galaxy s8. Btw, I don't plan going to Google Pixel 2 because I like the Samsung devices. I've always had Samsung phones. Tried Nexus once but I'm not a fan of stock android.
Upgraded today to the Grey/silver version from S6.
Ordered awesome spigen case too.
Role on Friday.

Zero lag in anything I have done on my S8+. Smoothest, fastest phone I have ever used.
I went from s6 Edge to S8. I think it's worth it. The battery is much better. Bigger screen, not as wide so easier to hold. It's pretty better all around. If you got nougat on your s6 then the software experience will not feel drastically different. Haven't really tested the camera head to head yet.

I have to disagree with you on a few points:
"far inferior displays" - Just because the S8 has a more futuristic look with its smaller bezels and increased height over the S6 I don't see it being fair to consider the S6 to be far inferior. The S6 featured an incredible screen at its time, and compared to alot of flagships out there it still is an amazing screen anno 2017! (pixeldensity is still better on the S6 vs the S8 by the way)
"memory size" - Just because the S8 features 1GB more, it does not mean that you actually use it. Just because it looks better on paper does not make it essential in daily usage. 4GB future proof? Yes! Absolutely necessary at this moment? Probably not.
"camera" - If you are talking about the front facing camera, then yes probably you are right. The rear camera however is only marginaly improved over the S6.
Don't get me wrong, I agree with you that the S8 beats the S6 in all of those points, but I think its actual difference in daily usage is to be argued whether the TS needs to upgrade or not
From S6 Edge to S8 is a perfect upgrade at all levels. I gave S6 to dad and I am using S8
