Random reboots and lag - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

Got my T-Mobile black onyx S7 edge the other day. Love the phone and my wife has one as well. We have both had a few random reboots and lag where the phone gets very hot afterwards. Has anyone else been having this issue?
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk

Nope. Been running mine for three days now, and not a single freeze, reboot, or any overheatng for that matter.
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk

I did have one random reboot on initial setup. After that, the phone has been fine.

No random reboots but I did have one glitch that I have never seen before. I did a test call to my house. I hung up and then the my cell phone started ringing again followed by my house phone ringing again. It placed a call to my house again but there was no indication of the active call on my cell phone except for the audio was there. I could not hang up the call on the cell phone since it wasn't showing any active call. I had to hang up my house phone and everything was good after that. It was very strange and only happened once.

I have had 0 problems - love this phone - if you are still having lag and random reboots, maybe a "Factory Data Reset" would help?

I had a couple instances of lag/hang up the first couple days of use, but it's been smooth sailing since. Probably just needed time to settle in a little more.

No reboots here. But there are numerous hiccups I've had with various apps and such. Nexus 6P still takes the cake as for as smoothness and stability in my experiences.

Only thing I have noticed is when enabled, the 'Game Launcher' feature tends to make my games lag. I'm not quite sure what the purpose of the 'Game Launcher' feature is (I thought it was meant to provide a smoother, less-interrupted experience when in games) but it seems to be causing more harm than good.
Once disabled, all my games are back to running nice and smooth. I am assuming a software update can and will fix this, as it is a relatively new feature so there are bound to be some bugs, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this as well?
Other than games and the 'game launcher' issue, I haven't experience any other lag once I got past the first couple of days.

I had a comparative issue when I first got my Droid turbo 2, it was rebooting a considerable measure. Like 3 times each day. I wound up exchanging the console programming out, uprooting and incapacitating all the superfluous programming the telephone accompanied and after that the issues ceased. Telephone has rebooted subsequent to.

what i do right off the bat is update any software updates there might be then factory reset it through recovery. a clean start to a new device

So after having the phone for a few days now. Looks like that might have been a one time thing upon initial setup as the phone has been running great ever since. Looks like I jumped the gun. My last Samsung phone was the galaxy s2 on Sprint. That phone was so buggy I guess I was a bit to quick to judge Samsung based on a very old comparison.

I had this too. 100% fixed it by performing factory reset via stock recovery.
You are getting lag and reboots because a Samsung security update patch was failing. Only way to fix is factory reset

Heat kills

I experienced a pretty nasty issue today with my galaxy s. As you know it's getting pretty hot these days, and prague is by NO means an exception.
Anyway my wifi stopped working on JM2, I've had JM2 for a few days and never previously experienced wifi issues.
So I basically tried everything, deleting apps, restoring settings, flashing firmware, the list goes on and on. Until I thought, perhaps it overheated?
Opened it up removed the battery and shoved it the fridge. 10 minutes later it was working perfect.
Perhaps JM2 has a problem with heat?

Or maybe simply taking out the battery did the trick?
Your device should also give you a warning message if the battery gets too hot.
Mine did the other day while i was playing some robo defense while charing, two things that both seem to get me a bit hot...

This. Happened to me a few weeks ago.
Sure I did that before, left it for 2 minutes with the batery out,
while I made myself some coffee. That didn't do the trick.
I don't know what caused it to work again but it was consistently not working til I put it in t

G2 randomly reboots

My phone keeps on randomly rebooting. Is anyone having the same problem?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I am experiencing this problem too.
It rebooted once when I was using the Camera (Youtube HD Video mode)
Once When Trying to open Gallery.
And once while just sitting here on my desk at work.
I want to love this phone so bad! I really like it so far though, and the keyboard issue is def. not a problem for me, and I think it's probably a design flaw rather than a manufacturing "defect" considering there are no springs. It is very hard to recreate the hinge problem while holding it naturally, including at a 45 degree angle in bed.
I also have had a few reboots and also media server force closes while running other apps. Never had these issues with my N1. Luckily I still have it. I'll give it a few more days and probably end up returning this G2 and going back to the N1.

I have been waiting for a good QWERTY phone with a fast CPU and a WVGA, passed on the nexus one and kept my G1. After running CM6 on my G1 (usable but sloooow) there is no going back for me after using the G2.
I sure hope this is something fixable in a firmware update
Does it reboot all the way to the white htc screen or the grey tmo g2 screen? Mine does it to the tmo screen and seems to only happen when the phone has been sitting for awhile and I pass through an area with no reception and when I hit reception again is when it happens. Almost like its turning itself off but stays on enough to look for signal and then turns back on. I only say this because on my drive I know the spots where I lose service and the phone does the reboot in those spots. Anyone else?

Yea I had this happen today when roaming in nw ohio I think it may have started after taking pics of my niece. I also have a problem with the memory card it says it mounted read only and none of my pics or anything show up in the gallery.
The incredible used to randomly reboot. I believe that was due to when there was low signal. It was fixed with an ota.

It goes to the G2 logo screen.
I have also had two occurrences of it being stuck at that screen and the power button not responding to long press or anything, only solution was to remove battery.

That would make a lot of sense, I'm at work right now and my signal is very weak here, goes in and out all the time.
What about others who are experiencing this problem?
Also, I am using a Class 6 A-Data 8gb microsd partitioned for ext3/swap/fat (not the included card), and so far each time it has rebooted the USB cable was plugged into a PC (for charging only, no debug or mass storage)
I wonder if any of this matches up with others who are having issues?
Mines always happened not plugged in and has never gotten stuck.

g2 reboot and mulitple force closes
i am getting the reboot issue also, it seems to be random when i am opening an app or going in to basically anything. also i am getting multiple force closes in basically all apps. i did a master reset and going to reload all apps and such and see if that fixes anything.
Could be something you have installed too I remember some people having this problem when nexus first came out and they built a list and narrowed it down

There's a thread on Tmo forums about this issue, the guy fixed it by transferring his number to the new sim card that came with the phone. If you haven't tried it, give it a try.
I updated my sim and haven't had any reboots yet
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
For what its worth, my N1 reboots occasionally, randomly when I may be doing something. Happening ever since I got it. Maybe sone kind of exception happening in Android?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I have transferred my sim also and am still having this problem. It was after going through a no signal zone, which sucks because I am in hotels and places where I have no signal all the time.

Thanks for this tidbit. I called Tech Support and had my phone number moved to the SIM that came with the phone. Probably a long-shot, but what the hell...
Well, after 2 hours on a fresh charge, I sat my phone down for 15 minutes. When I picked it up it was dead (black screen). Had to pull the battery.
Seemed to be a weird fluke. Did have another reboot, though it felt Android related versus hardware.
-oldsk00lz
So it rebooted on me this morning in a spot with perfect reception. I was trying to open the xda app but it wasn't opening...almost like I didn't have any data. Fishy fishy..

Mine actually rebooted twice on me, both at random times.
1st occurence - I was listening to pandora, skipped a song while the loading circle was going on, I tried to go back to the home screen and it did take me there but than rebooted all of a sudden - It went straight to the G2 gray screen with the T-mo logo
2nd occurence - again I was listening to iheartradio app, trying to switch to a different but it rebooted back to the t-mobile gray screen ----- i think iheartradio is not tailored for android 2.2 yet, so i thought it could be the culprit.. since it only supports upto 2.1 in the market.
but yea nothing else as of now... hopefully it wont happen again.
This happened to me for the first time today. I was on the web, pressed the home button and scrolled thru the screens to get to my widget and it froze on me and rebooted to the t-mo g2 launch screen.. it actually stayed there for a good 2 mins so I pulled the battery and rebooted after and it was fine.. is this an on going problem that'll be fixed soon? i hope?

Random Reboot in 2.3.3, not in a call.

I have a non-rooted stock NS on 2.3.3 and the phone was just sitting on my desk doing nothing when I felt it vibrate. I picked it up to check for a text or email, but the phone was instead rebooting.
Has this happened to anyone else on this build? I have had the phone reboot while in call before, but never just sitting there in standby.
This happens to me in 2.3.2. I will have the phone just sitting there and it will randomly just be rebooting. Its not frequently enough to bother me yet but it happens on and off.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
same here on 2.3.2.... thats why I wanted 2.3.3. Ill wait patiently for the nightlies to include it.
happened to me many many times on 2.3.2, but not 2.3.3. knock on wood
Happened to me...2 times already...never on 2.3.2...im rooted though

This happened to me like 2x a day with 2.3.2.
Hasnt happened once yet with 2.3.3.
I never got reboots in-call, though I did get them a couple times when I overloaded the phone's RAM.
Mine just rebooted in 2.3.3. I'm also getting "Can't connect to camera" anytime I use the Amazon barcode app which worked perfectly in 2.3.2.
Haven't tried the new update yet
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I never had the in call rebooting, just overloading reboots on my nexus s. I have yet to have one since the update, but it has only been a little over 24 hours. Then again this has been happening to me since updating my nexus one be it stock, rooted, or CM6 FRF91 and FRG83D or any form of gingerbread I've used on it. The only thing I can say it it started in froyo for me.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
on the new update havent had any issues.
I had the random reboot in 2.3. 2 and thought the update had fixed it.
Unfortunately it did not - i noticed the phone rebooting yesterday.
The camera has crashed twice so far, requiring a battery pull.
I am stock, non-rooted.
I also get random failed downloads and failed market updates.
Starting to get frustrating.

With all the problems you stated, it is obvious that ur rom is corrupt. I suggest you to back up all your settings, wipe everything and then reinstall a rom .
He's not rooted dude. Btw I get a reboot on every call. On cm nightly, no matter what I try/flash

Nope.
It happens to 2 Nexus S, both stock, not even rooted. One barely has additional apps, too.
I think a lot of people don't notice the reboot, because it is silent, so if you are not looking at your phone exactly at the particular time it reboots, you wouldn't know it.
The inability to dial at times is much more annoying, IMO: you punch in a number, the phone tries to dial, then hangs up. At the same time, there are 3-4 signal bars. When it happens, it normally takes several tries to get it to work.
The crashing camera also doesn't happen every time, but it is definitely a new bug in 2.3.3.
Just had my first random reboot on 2.3.3 while phone was sat on my keyboard while at my PC.
Rooted detoxed Rom stock
My 2.3.3 phone went into the weird "Dim Screen Reboot Screen" reboot at some point during the night last night. I was late for work because the alarm clock didn't go off (I know, I know...don't depend on a cell phone alarm clock)
I'm about done with this phone. And Android. Anyone wanna buy my NS? Dead serious.

This dim reboot screen thing used to happen quite a bit on my g2 in its early days, got it launch day. OTA fixed it.

I am still hopeful, but I am losing some patience with Android.
The platform seems to be all about selling the newest hardware, but the user experience is definitely below that of the iPhone. I keep hoping that the next Android OS upgrade will close the gap, but....
The iPhone 5 will have 4" screen, with Apple's better screen aspect ratio. If it only did Flash....
Anyway, the Nexus S is really the best user experience Android has to offer, and it's overall fine. Except when it acts like WM6.

Anyone noticing random freezes?

Alright I got my grey 16gb yesterday and played with it all night. One thing I noticed was how sometimes the screen would freeze and become unresponsive at certain places. Like when I was trying to setup my settings, it just froze. I could press the home button and it will work, but continue to be unresponsive on the home screen. It happened about 5 times last night. Anyone else noticing something similar? Thanks.

I haven't noticed that yet, but I am on my second tan because of light bleeding.
Edit: I did have a soft reboot randomly. Hopefully Samsung will push an update to fix some of these issues (like slow browser typing).

Is it possible an app could have caused freezing like that? After restoring it, i had my gf use it all day while i was at work and she said no freezing or lag what so ever.

Nexus 10 Rebooting

I have noticed that my nexus 10, which i received today, reboots itself whenver i put it in sleep mode. Also, when charging it turns itself off. These problems never occur during use, just when it is in sleep mode. Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions?

I've seen this once. I'd just put the tab down, lock screen active but display still on and bam! I was pretty shocked.
I'd be much more pissed off if it happened during use though!
Mine has locked up about 5 times since yesterday.....

This was happening on mine as well. It stopped after I updated the device, so I think it might be a software issue.
There's a long thread on this in the Q&A section. A lot of people are noticing it. Hopefully Google fixes it in a software update soon.

Mine has stopped rebooting, but it still turns itself off after a few minutes of being asleep. Any solutions? Or should I consider a return?
4.2 definitely needs an update. Freezing everywhere, gesture typing is sluggish, reboots and lock-ups.....was not expecting this :/
Honestly, I've not experienced any of this. I'm only playing a few games and browsing mostly though so maybe I'm not doing something that triggers it. One of the N7's I bought did that, and I returned it. If you reflash the stock image and clear data and it still does this I would suggest getting a return. I've had no real software problems with mine.
Man, you all have me really worried. My wife bought me a n10, and it's sitting in the closet because it's a christmas present. If it's having software issues, that's one thing....hardware issues are a whole other animal..I need to make sure the hardware isn't bad before I miss out on the return period.

I had similar issues with the first one I received. CONSTANT reboots, occasional freezes and shutdowns. Returned it for a new one, which I received today, and for what it is worth, I haven't noticed the same problems at all yet with the new unit. So, at least in my case, it does appear to have been a hardware issue...
