Successfully rooted LP 5.1.1 without downgrade - Xperia Z3 Compact General

Yesterday I successfully rooted my Z3C - 5.1.1. (never rooted before) with kingoroot 4.5 apk and install TWRP recovery whitout problems
attached link with all files..

Working! Thank you!

can anyone confirm this? Should I trust Kingoroot?
edit: it failed with error code 0x173c17

Did not work

Worked for me.

I rooted my z3c on fw 23.4.A.1.264 with kingroot v 4.80

rooted with kingroot too... working

I used KingRoot 4.8.2 from this topic on the firmware .264. It worked !

VERY interested in this. Do you lose camera functionality?
Edit - to be more specific did you need to back up your TA partition to restore your DRM keys for advanced features? I'm not interested in unlocking boot loader - just want root if that is possible.

No this is just the root. No need to unlock the bootloader or anything else, so we lose nothing.

This thread should be closed, isn't this app banned on XDA? I would not use this period! This app just installs crapware on your phone and i'm sure they get ad revenue from all the built in ads with the app. There is no telling what private information is stolen from your device as well. I repeat i would not use this period.

KINGROOT and any software on XDA is always 'user beware'
That means do your research and MAKE BACKUPS!
The xda staff no longer has any issues with KINGROOT. They made the needed changes to remain on XDA.
I actually use it personally on my Xperia T2 Ultra running 5.1.1. The app didn't work for me, but the pc version did.
With root I use ti backup to remove unwanted extras.

Another confirm working root.
Working with supersume btw (see playstore).
Now on SuperSU instead of kingoroot.
Finally root + full device encryption

Try using this guide: http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2015/05/How-to-Remove-Replace-KingUser-KingRoot-with-SuperSU.html
Worked like a charm 3x in a row.

So just to confirm, this does not impact the DRM keys?
EDIT: Also, presumably it does not wipe any data, images etc. on the phone?

beware that Kingoroot and Kingroot have all permission to collect your data. Kingoroot have more permission than Kingroot

I think kingroot is not stable. I used this root in 2 devices already, but same.
For example, TB not working with this root.

Kingroot sends your IMEI number to China as well and I got rid of it instantly and installed SuperSU after

STOCK and ROOTED SGH-I257M

Thanks to @spyke555 for his backup copy of the Rogers version of the SGH-I257M firmware. I managed to root it with vroot, so there is a chinese version of SU on there but it works. I also stuck busy box on it and tried to get rid of most of Rogers apps.
Now to use this, you must stick it into your backup folder (i.e: clockworkmod/backup) it is NOT a flashable rom, it is a backup. If anyone wants to turn it into a flash rom, or create custom roms out of it, please do. Need to see some I257M roms popping up.
Dropbox
Box.com
G Drive
We also have @dsavard copy of the stock firmware from Koodo, which you can flash with Odin
Dropbox
Mirror 1
And here we have all of the STOCK and UNROOTED firmware for the Canadian I257M over at Sammobile
All vroot does is give root access without changing the rom. It uses the chinese program Superuser 1.0.4. You can get rid of this by following these steps:
Go to play store and install SuperSU.
Start SuperSU and you will be asked for permission by Superuser 1.0.4, choose 允许(means allow). (Should be the right side option.)
SuperSU will prompt to install SU binary, go ahead with OK and it will display successful.
Now, freeze Superuser 1.0.4 in titanium backup, just in case you need it again.
Note: If you uninstall straight away from app manager, you need to make sure SuperSU updated the binary.
Re-run SuperSU to make sure everything is alright. You will be prompt again to install SU binary, just do what it asked.
After that, you are rooted with SuperSU and Superuser 1.0.4 will not be there anymore.
Once you do that, SuperSU will be the default and will be in english.
Good to see this here. I just picked up my S4 Mini today. I'm from Canada so I'm assuming it's a slightly different version than the other models? Cause mine in an SGH-1257M. Is it a different process to root it?
I'm not too familiar with vroot. My last phone was an HTC Evo 3D.

vroot is like SRS or any other one touch root program, but it's in chinese. Easy to use and has a high success rate for most phones. the I257M is slightly different from what we can tell from the other models; different features. As far as I can tell there isn't a different way to root this but I'm not to sure how the others were rooted. I also don't know if there is anything different between the Bell, Rogers, Fido, etc. versions besides their own bloatware. I hope I can get all the different versions uploaded.

Yeah, I have a Rogers phone. Just got it yesterday.
Is there a guide on here how to root with vroot? I'm not too good at rooting and whatnot. I've only done it once on my Evo 3D and that was more than a year a go haha!
Just google it. The vroot forum has step by step with pictures

There are forums here on how to temporarily give root and install CMW to make a backup.
Well, I just rooted my phone using VROOT. It is still recognized as an SGH-I257M. However, when any of my apps update it's all in Mandarin (I think?). Would I simply use the backup you posted? Would that solve that issue?
Will the I9195 roms work with phone even though I didn't root it as a I9195?

You can use the backup that I posted but it would be the same as your stock rom. The backup is just for those who don't want to root their own rom, doesn't trust the program, etc. The I9195 roms will still work, but when you flash them, your phone will recognize itself as a GT-I9195 instead of SGH-I257M
Sorry for bumping this, but I wanted to ask, did you have any trouble installing CWM after you rooted with VROOT?
It keeps telling me that SGH-I257M is unsupported.
What I did was use the I9195 rooting method to get CWM installed then switch back with I257M backup. It turns your phone back to I257M but CWM stays installed. You could also try installing twrp

Ah... that's why I'm having issues. I'll look into TWRP.
Edit: Just tried TWRP. No luck.
It wouldn't backup my ROM. Just booted me into recovery with no option of backing up.
Edit #2:
Slowly figuring this out. I unrooted my phone and re-rooted with the I9195 method. I now have CWM.
What I think it is, the I9195 method unlocks the bootloader where just rooting the I257M doesn't do that

Be warned, VRoot and Kingo rooting methods have been temporarily banned from XDA forums. All links to the software have been removed from the posts.
During the rooting process, they collects sensitive data like IMEI and send it to remote servers. XDA moderators are currently investigating the issue to determine if it was done with bad intention or not.

@Omega2513 As a safer alternative, why not install the S4Mini_RootKit_v1.zip from arco68 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980) from CWM Recovery ? It is the same for all s4 mini (I9190, I9192 and I9195), so I suppose it will work for the SGH-I257M too.
It's possible it could work. Never tried it, but since it does the other models, I don't see why not.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23188887
I've uploaded it online for anyone who could need it :

It seems to be in the same format than firmwares found on the sammobile web site. So, it could be useful for those who wish to revert to stock with Odin... and know how to do it.

[Q] How to ROOT Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro

Hi all, I've been browsing since yesterday about rooting Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro, however there was little that could be found. And in this point I'm not even sure whether it is possible.
Does someone have experience with rooting this particular phone. I will appreciate any advice.

ROOT on Lollipop is actually possible, russian guide HERE.
Every game I tried worked flawlessly. I don't think I have ever had any problems with that. Also resolution change (to 1080p) helped with FPS. I think 1440p is for Adreno 330 too much.
Hi, how is it possible to change the resolution? Thanks.

After pressing update? Still keeps asking? I just flashed latest SuperSU (2.46 i think) in twrp and everything works fine.
yes it tries to update then say not successful. needs to reboot. but then the same after rebooting. not sure if it's because i don't have root. i did manage to install twrp and can reboot into twrp.
Then flash latest SuperSU zip in twrp. I don't see a reason why it shouldn't work
hi bro, i tried that, and it really didn't work. I'm also puzzled. downloaded v2.46 from the supersu website and flashed via twrp. the message is successful. but when i open up, it still prompts me to update binary. sigh.

There are dozens of devices rootable with those one-click generic apps like KingoRoot or Towelroot etc... which doesn't need unlocked bootloader, or even adb/fastboot. Ofc you won't be able to flash custom recovery (via fastboot) and things like that, but essentialy you'll end up with SuperSU installed along with su binary (that's the point of rooting the device, right?).
Before Lollipop firmware update our device was possible to root via those one-click apps.

Honestly to say you are right. I dont know why i was being rogue with you. I think what i should hav said was '' in no android planet would you want to root your device with a locked bootloader''. Reasons being no Nandroid backup restore method.. neither via recovery nor via fastboot image flashing method. Of course taking nandroid backup will be possible e.g using Online Nandroid app, onandroid executable scripts e.t.c. Besides unlocking bootloader only clears your user data. We all know rooting is not a disaster but a window to disaster #BRICK. Think about it.

Anyway download pdanet for pc... Install it. Have usb debugging on. Check that on developer options on your device. Connect your device to pc then run pdanet to install the necessary driver. (You could also download and use "adb drivers installer.exe for pc as an alternative".
Check your phone screen to confirm the debug promp.
Download iRoot English version for pc.
Install it and run.
Connect your phone with the usb debug still on.
Once your device is detected and name displayed. A button "Root" will appear. Click on it and your phone will reboot if rooting successful.

1.Download and install latest version of Kingroot to phone.
2.Run the application and get the Root. Important - do not restart the device, because it can lead to failure in obtaining Root.
3.Enable "USB debugging" and "unknown sources".
4.Install the latest version from the PC XZDualRecovery to get full access to reading and writing to the section System (connect your phone to a PC via a cable, run the install.bat to select a number " 1 "on the screen to confirm a request for superuser)
5.Phone will reboot automatically to recovery. Install supersu.
6.Boot

I tried that, it needs internet connectivity. However, the reason I allowed this was I understand that this root is based on a Ping exploit, which would need internet connecivity to work.
I figured the risk werent THAT high for me. I dont re-use passwords and no bank details stored on my phone.

ROOT VZW Moto E 2015 (XT1528) VIA Kingroot on 5.1 (also sticks upon reboot)

Hello everyone,
Today I was able to root the VZW Moto E 2015 with the Kingroot app on 5.1. The Kingroot app said there was a method available and I decided to try it.
Simply install the app on your phone here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=16614
The root sticked for me upon reboot!
**I later found it was a hobbed root. You can't make changes to the system partition but you do have SU capabilities. (like you can run hidden apps and menus or block system apps, not remove them)

Choose a bloatware app that you don't mind losing, such as NFL Mobile. If you "Disabled" it in Settings > Apps, re-enable it.
Install a file manager that has the ability to browse/edit the full filesystem, such as Amaze (https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=com.amaze.filemanager) or Root Explorer (in Play Store).
Open up the app and go into /system/app or /system/priv-app and look for the folder related to NFL Mobile (you'll know it's the right folder if the apk inside of it has the NFL Mobile logo). Delete it. If it deletes, that's a good sign. Reboot and see if the NFL Mobile icon is still in the app drawer, and open up the file manager again and verify that the files you've deleted have stayed deleted.

Reboot and see if the NFL Mobile icon is still in the app drawer, and open up the file manager again and verify that the files you've deleted have stayed deleted.

Wow. Everything fails. Kingroot says I got root and stays upon reboot. Titanium Backup acts like it woks but resets after reboot. Very weird.

Yeah, looks like you have hobbled root. While the su binary is installed, the system partition is still in read-only mode. While you'll be able to use apps that only need root privileges to read files/settings, you won't be able to edit the system itself.
Has anybody got it working? What are some signs of it working (i.e. 2 reboots, no reboot, etc.)?

It is indeed the latest Kingroot
Also tried for 50+ times maybe, sometimes got root sometimes failed---even if got root, always lost root after reboot

If someone gets root again, try to run Sunshine (bootloader unlock). You don't have to pay to see if it'll work.
As a heads up, sunshine fails with an error telling you to contact the sunshine support with your IP address if it continues.
Also, was able to back up the existing boot and recovery using flashify. I flashed the typical recovery used for other surnia devices, but when I tried to boot into recovery, it failed.
It got hung up in fastboot and gave check errors.
It did not keep me from booting back into the rom, so I was able to reflash the original recovery after re-rooting.
Yes, is only temporary root for me on 5.1.
I purchased supersume earlier today with the hopes of ridding myself of kingroot, but it immediately force closes. I trust the kr app about as much as I trust esfile explorer now...

If you have Android 6.0, you do not have the XT1528.
Your device (XT1521 or similar) can be bootloader unlocked and you can install a custom recovery and can flash root.
The device being discussed in this topic (XT1528) cannot be bootloader unlocked.
Hi, I want only simple root I should not want to unlock boot loader and twrp recovery,,, because I don't have pc,, I want to root with phone,,,can you help me regarding this,,,thank you for you response

Not possible. The only known way to have permanent full root is to unlock the bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader is necessary to make /system mount as read-write.
Yes, I understand.can you please send me the procedure to unlock the bootloader.so no body have mentioned correctly in websites and YouTube... So send me the steps to unlock bootloader and root the andriod

Root Xperia Z2 Tablet (All Models/Regions) on 5.1.1 build 23.4.B.0.319 in 3 Steps

Hello everyone,
I've noticed that there hasn't been any threads about rooting the Xperia Z2 Tablet on lollipop. Most threads have discussed how to root the device on 4.4.4 and to create an update image to maintain your root whilst updating to 5.0+.
I've scoured the interwebs and found nothing so I'll make it easy for those whom don't know how to achieve root or don't want to do much work without creating images and such.
First off I'm not responsible for any inconvenience that may come with rooting your device and losing your warranty. I can and will be willing to help out in restoring or answering questions that you may have.
This method uses Kingroot... For those who have a problem with kingroot, it is only used to achieve root and this guide will also be showing you how to remove kingroot and install Supersu with ease. Using the link below download the necessary files: Kingroot V4, Supersume, XZDualRecovery 2.8.26. Place all these files on the root of your devices internal storage/SD card excluding Xdualrecovery as that needs a PC. (If you want to Xposed working I will also supply the files needed for that as well). https://www.mediafire.com/download/wrsajbgw2jr6czt
*Make sure you have unknown sources enabled under Settings>Security>Device administrators as well as Developer Options available and USB debugging enabled. (To enable Developer Options go to Settings>About Tablet>Build Number and click it 10 times).
1. Install NewKingroot.apk and run the application. It will notify you that a root method was found and to try it. It may take up to 2 minutes to achieve root. (If all you wanted was root and are content with kinguser then you're done! :good: if you want Supersu and/or a custom recovery then continue on to step 2!
2. Connect your Tablet to your PC via microUSB. On your PC open and extract the contents of TabZ-lockeddualrecovery2.8.26-RELEASE.combined.zip to your desktop. Now double click install.bat a screen will pop up providing you with options to install xdualrecovery. Choose option 2. Installation on ROM rooted with SuperUser by pressing 2 and enter. The script will run its course and tell you to grant permission on your tablet. Open up your tablet and a kinguser prompt will show asking you to grant or deny permission to ADB (Grant it!!!) afterwards your tablet will reboot on it's own to TWRP. (I advise you to either make a backup of the tablet now or after you install Supersu as insurance in case of any mishaps). Click reboot System.
3.Install Supersume, open the application and run it. It will of course ask to grant it permission (Grant it!!!) it will check the environment (making sure that there isn't any Pokemon nearby that you don't need... Sorry Pokemon Go reference) and it will begin removing kingroot and install Supersu. If you didn't have Supersu installed already great! It'll open up Supersu automatically. Supersu may ask you to update binaries (DO NOT click TWRP as it will reboot and you have to start the process over from step one!!! :crying: Just click Normal and once it says successful you're done! :victory: The next step is optional if you Want Xposed.
*Optional 4. Install XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk. Open your app drawer and open NDR Utils. It will ask for permission (Grant it!!!) now here you may choose your preferred recovery... Philz Touch Recovery,TWRP or Clockwork Mod Recovery. Click Reboot to Primary Recovery (fourth option) once it's rebooted you want to click install>SD>xposed-v85.1-sdk22-arm-by-romracer-20160620.zip and swipe to install. You should get a success when it's finished. Now simply reboot and your apps will be upgrading. Congratulations you now have root with SuperSU and xposed! :victory:
**if you wish to uninstall Xposed simply reboot to recovery and click install>SD>xposed-uninstaller-20151218-arm.zip uninstall the application once it's rebooted and you're good to go!
***if you have a problem with Supersume not working, reinstall Newkingroot.apk and run it again to get root. Then run supersume again (Grant permission!!!) and let it run its magic.
If anyone has issues, has questions or needs help PM and I will do my best to help and answer all your questions. Please don't be discouraged because I'm new here! I will be soon adding a link to a video tutorial on how all these steps can be done!

Glad it worked for you. Just wanted to help people out as I had invested time trying to figure out my own. I didn't like flashing files constantly so tried making easy.
Never had luck with kingoapp and today isnt any different
Thanks so much. I am away for another week but I can not wait to try this. I got a verizon z2 tablet since it seemed to be the cheapest 10 inch tablet. You have breathed new life in to it.

Power off device. While device is booting up at the Sony logo hold power and volume down/up (depends on customer recovery) until led flashes green and device vibrates then let go

That's great news to hear! I picked one up and wanted to root and I did on KitKat but when I upgraded to lollipop I lost root and rooted it the long way... Needed something simpler and couldn't find anything on here. So I wanted to make sure a guide was available to all. Enjoy and let me know how it went

If you're talking about your google drive, there is no kingoapp.apk in there
All there is:
- supersume.apk
- tabz-lockeddualrecovery
- xposed uninstaller
- xposed v85.1
- xposed installer
I downloaded the most recent kingroot, which worked on my Verizon sgp561, and then I used your superuser file to change over to su. Seems to work just fine.. I'm on 5.1.1.
I tried the most recent kingroot and it fails.
An old version gave me an error code of 0x162982
