Odd issue in stock e-mail app - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

New Tmo S7 Edge.
Set up stock email app to access my Office 365 mailbox for work.
My team (all 5 of us) largely communicates via an Exchange distribution list. We send email to the distribution list, and we respond to the distribution list. Everyone knows what is going on.
To respond to an e-mail, hit Reply-All, type e-mail, hit send.
On my Note 4 *this worked fine*. It also worked on the Note 3, Note 2, S3, S2, Vibrant and G-1.
On my S7E, when I open up an e-mail that was sent to the distribution list, "Reply-all" is greyed out. So all I can do is "Reply" or "Forward". If I hit Reply, it autopopulates only the sender, so either way I have to manually put in the address of the distribution list to reply to it. This is a fairly big PITA. I can't find any settings anywhere that would seem to apply.
OTHER THAN USE A DIFFERENT APP--I'd love to, by company policy, I won't--anyone seen anything similar on this or any other phones, or have any ideas? Or am I stuck?
Thanks!

Subscribing... I haven't noticed this specific issue yet (I haven't responded to a DL message yet), but I have noticed that I can't see my folders. I have rules that move my DL messages to specific folders, and now I can't see those messages. I'm sure I'll also have the same issue as you. It seems like these were issues we had back in 2011. I haven't had a problem with this on an Android phone in a really long time.

I don't see anything different for the folders for as far back as I can remember. To see folders other than your Inbox, just click on the Inbox which opens up a menu. Then scroll down and you will see all of your other folders. Then just select the folder to see the emails inside of it.

If you part of distribution group there is no need to reply all. you can just reply and all 5 members will receive your message.
Does it make sense? ( at least that's the way i have it configured for my users )

But in this case, when replying, it only replies to the user that sent the last message. The DL is not in the To: field, so the reply will not be sent to the DL.

You're right. I didn't see the option to expand the folders at the top. I can now see all of my folders. Thanks!

You are correct, just realized I make no sense.
Btw I gave up on stock email clients. Got my self maildroid and never looked back.

Select multiple contacts

This is driving me up the wall - I got my O2 XDA Mini S yesterday, and I love it, bar 1 (major) fault - I can't (easily) send an SMS to multiple contacts.
Every day I send out 10 texts (sometimes more) to different people (to see who can play football that night). It's not always the same 10, so I can't just set up a Dist List or Group.
At the minute I have to click where it says To:, choose a contact, click where it says To:, choose another contact, etc, etc.
How on Earth can I just click To:, select as many contacts as I need, then send?
I realise after searching these forums that I don't think it can be done with the standard software, but is there any 3rd party software that will let me do this? (I'm only bothered about SMS, not e-mail, if that matters)
Thank you so much!
FlexMail 2007 seems to do what I need.
hey mate, on my mda vario when I start a new sms the cursor is in the 'To' field.
All I do is start typing the name of who I want to send to and the vario brings up a list of possibilites, like it does when it's guessing what words you're typing during a text. Once I pick a name the cursor then moves across so I can type in another name and so on and so on.
does your Mini S not do this?
I just noticed today that it does!!!
It's a shame really that people say "It doesn't do <insert action here>" but actually it does...
It's not their fault they havn't noticed it, it's that it's so well hidden, you don't see it...
i send similar SMS's to a group of friends. what i did was create a new "Contact" for each person and i put a prefix before each name (ie) 1carlos....etc 2mark.....etc this way they are the very first contacts on the list so when i hit the "To" button all the names are right in order at the top of the list
hope this helps
Same here. I send a list of emails or SMS messages to a group of friends. I never found a way to create a distribution list like you can do on the desktop version of Outlook.
I created a notepad file with all the groups. I cut and paste them in the To: box to send to those groups.

I also tried doing this, but I also discovered not all the addresse received the message at the end...
It seems there is a limit on the number of characters the "To:" field accepts...
And also, if it is faster to send a pigeon, why do I need a PocketPC ???

How do I send Batch Text Messages

How do I do batch text messaging. On my old Motorola Razr I could simply compose a message open up my contacts and then go through and check off all the names I wanted to send it to and hit send and it would send to all the people. However in the TYTN I have to add each person separately. Which takes about 10x the amount of time.
I.E. I am arranging coffee for a small group. I want to send to about 20 odd people in my contact list. Is there a button combination I can press to quickly scroll through my list and select all the people I want to send to and have it add that group to the send field without having to open and close the message each time I want to add a new person to the "To" field.
I suppose a workaround would be to add the contacts once, copy the lot of them and save it as a note, then just paste the group each time you need to send out a batch to them.
Other than that I'm not sure how you would be able to get around the single adding thing.
Cheers
Yes this is one dis-advantage in WM5 and above devices. WM2003 atleast had an easy oiption to choose contatcs.
You can ofcourse try the above workaround by copying a list of contact numbers separated by ; if you often message the same list. Else, use the predictive input to type few letters and select them! Get the point?
There have been a couple of utilities posted that will help you in your cause - both called "Group SMS" strangely enough!!
One can be found >HERE< and the other is mentioned a little further down the same thread and links to >HERE<.
Check them out and see if either fits your needs
Cheers,
Mark.
I am just flashing my radio at the moment, but thank you for the suggestions, I will check them both out and post back the results.
This forum and its members have been a life saver for me. You guys are all awesome.
Thanks again.
Happy Hacking.

Thank You, the one from the Asheesh guy, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=306682&highlight=group+sms Worked perfect, I am able to compose my message and then just click through my contacts and select with a check box the ones I want to send to, and hit send, works perfect.
Glad I could help
You can pretty much guarantee that somewhere on this site is the one program that will make your device complete......you've just gotta be prepared to look for it - they tend to hide in some pretty obscure places
Cheers,
Mark.

[Photo Sending] Is there a program thats REALLY useful ??

I was wondering if there is a program built in the HTC that can send photos in 1 click to the assigned emails.
For example : I take a picture, go to send - email, and thats it.
The software automatically sends the picture to any assigned emails.
On my previous N97, I had a program called PixelPipe that can do that. But since the HTC triumphs over the N97, I feel that it can do that without the fuss of using an external program.
If its not possible, what program does that ?
You can do that with the camera.
Take a picture, and when the menu bar appears, click the envelope
Thanks for replying
Yes im aware of that feature, but thats exactly why I was referring for (implied actually)
I want a way to click e.g. Send by Email => It sends to all assigned contacts directly
The option you are referring to, I have to add the emails manually, PLUS I must have an email assigned to the phone.
So any ideas ?

Sorry - you've lost me there. Of course you have to have an email account on the phone, and of course you have to enter email addresses (or names, if they're in your contact list with email addresses assigned).
No phone in the world will have native functionality to send emails without you first setting up an email account, and to suggest you want to send emails without telling the phone who to send them to is ridiculous.
Either I've completely misunderstood you or that request is ludicrous (no offense, but it is!)
Hmm I think I wrote a rather confusing description
I remember in Pixel Pipe you had to register using your email, so yeah either way you must have your email registered, my bad.
But other than that here is how it works :
You open the program
You add a list of emails you want to send to
Take a picture
Press " SEND BY EMAIL "
The software comes in and you click your account name
The software sends the picture to emails you already registered to them before
I hope this makes it clearer

Okay, I understand now. I just don't see why that's any better than the native functionality of the phone as it stands.
You open the camera app
You take a picture
You press send
You select email type
You enter email addresses
It sends an email
It's a very straight-forward process. I guess not many people would want to send picture after picture to the same group of people. (I'm not even sure the group of people would want it either lol).
If you really want the application you mentioned earler, you're better off requesting that from the developers. The only close alternatives out-of-the-box are things like facebook or twitter uploads.
Trying to do something similar to the BBM (black berry messenger) .. Friends share pictures in an instant, one click.
Since I dont have a blackberry, I send by email, so I just wanted a faster way to send pictures rather than typing the same email over and over again.
Have you tried using the "Groups" tool in the HTC Contact application? Not sure if it can do e-mail or just phone numbers since I'm not using it myself.
I dunno about the Groups tool, going to check it now.
But I found a good thing about HTC, thats why I love this phone.
If you assign someone with an email in Contacts, then by typing the first letter (or first few) in the " TO : " Field, the name will pop instantly, saving time from typing it all !!!
So its :
*take a picture
*press mailbox sign
*choose email
*type first letter
*choose contact
*send
Love it
But what is the groups tool you mentioned pphuck ??

contact tab -> all contacts -> third icon "Groups"
my guess is that you can create a group of people and then use this group for your photo mail, but i haven't tested it myself
Not sure how that would work though, because you are supposed to enter contacts' emails in "Send To" field

i would presume that you could enter the name of the group as a contact
I just tried that, didnt work.
It sounds like a great idea though, it should be implemented !!

[Q] How to delete multiple emails or sms ?

Hi, I have a question about deleting multiple emails or sms. When I go to either one of them, I can not select more than one (I used to have X1 and when I clicked on one of them and keep scrolling down, I could select more than one). Is there any way? Do I need to dowload a program?
Thanks!

If you want to delete a whole sms thread, then you can just long press on it and you should get a popup where u can choose delete entire thread
No idea about email - the inbuilt mail app sucks anyway
Thanks, but the what I more need to know is how do I delete multiple emails, instead of deleting each individually and just click on one and scroll down until I select the ones I want to delete. I guess is not possible...that really sucks
I feel like a broken record, and honest I don't work for them, but Handcent SMS allows you to delete multiple threads. It does lots of other stuff too.
The email app does absolutely suck, but having looked for the answer on this before I believe it is an android problem not just an X10 prob. Not found any answers on any of the forums that I lurk on.

The 2 most popular email apps are K-9 Mail, and Droidmail. I personally prefer K-9, but both are better than the regular email app that comes with android.
Multi-Select delete, and all of those great options are there in K-9.
Ok thanks! Hope they do something soon for this matter.

Ooooh thanks for the heads up. Must have missed this one on my trolling thru. Downloading now. See, it is true you learn something new everyday!
Update... have downloaded it and finally found a way to get rid of the gmail folders, as I dont use them, that are a constant on the stock app. Loving it so far. Thanks again
For deleting multiple sms without wiping a thread, there's an app called sms cleaner. Couple of different options for deleting messages including by date received and keyword. Some reviews say it doesn't work, but it's because the numbers don't reflect instantly. Waiting a bit after closing the messaging app and checking later will show the correct number of messages remaining.

Deleting multiple emails

Hi,
Nowhere in the manual does it state how to enable a multiple selection of emails.
any help would be appreciated.
I have 462. Hahhahaa!
Go into your mail hub and press the ... (dots) on the bottom right, the second icon that looks like a checklist and says "select" under it allows you to select multiple emails.
Thank you!

Just checked it out. I was here already but don't you still have to check each box individually?
I want to slect all 400+ emails that came in after I set the email up and delete them in one fell swoop.
How do I do this?
Thanks!
It would be easier to delete the account and set it up again.
You can also touch to the left of the email, and it will open the "multiple select" boxes.
If you cannot "select all" and delete, this will be a major disdavantage for this phone.
I receive 40 emails a day.
Please don't tell me each individual email needs to be checked.

I get over 300 emails a day and I do not find the need to delete more than a handful of emails at one time. the clicking to the left approach and selecting multiple works perfectly fine for me.
what emails are you deleting? Is it spam? Does your ISP or company have a good spam filter?

If you receive 300 emails a day or 600 desktop/laptop), wouldn't it be nice to shift/highlight or "select all"?
You are checking 300 on your phone alone.
My 2 year old HTC Fuze could delete all in 2 clicks.

Then go back to your Fuze... if you are asking a question, ask it. If you are complaining about not being able to delete X amount of emails find a workaround... like going on your computer and deleting them from there rather than your phone.
you do realize that unless you're using a pop server, if you delete emails on your comp it'll reflect on your device?
wouldn't it make sense to just delete the spam and whatnot from your computer where it is easier and just read what you need to on the device?
I admit i like keeping a clean account, but damn man 300 is a lot of emails.

I am not complaining. I am asking mr fanboy!!!
I haven't found a way to select all, but if you want to deal with just the unread, you could always shift to the Unread section of your message hub for that account.
Is this Exchange or POP based? I guess I'm really confused about why you want to delete all messages so often (as are so many others) and we just want to help you the best we can.
Well I appreciate your help but I think it is what it is. I personally like "selecting all" 40-50 emails at the end of day and deleting with 1 click.
Nobody sees the benefit of this?

Everyone has their own preferences and finds certain things annoying that others might see no harm in. I agree with the previous poster that if this phone is not to your liking, you may find it better to just go with the old saying 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' and stay with whatever phone you had previously that performed all these tasks for you.
As I've been poking around these forums to see what other people think of the phone, as I purchased one as well, I've noticed that you seem to only have problems and even stated that "this phone is for kids". Not many people seem to take issue with not being able to sync over 500kb worth of info (which I'm pretty sure is false as I've synced 3 e-mail accounts with different contact info, photos, and hundreds of emails in each), and I don't think most people will take issue with not being able to delete 300 emails at once from their phone. That said, you could probably accomplish it easier by doing it from a computer or accessing your e-mail through the browser instead of the app.
I don't mean to come off as harsh, but as it was stated earlier, this just seems like complaining under the disguise of asking a question, but if you really do find these issues so staggering, the beauty of this situation is you have plenty of other options.
