T-Mobile Removed Some Features - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

http://phandroid.com/2016/03/02/samsung-galaxy-s7-tips-tricks/
This page discusses some features in the GS7/GS7 Edge. T-Mobile removed "Galaxy Labs," meaning there is no ability to remove the app drawer, have the Whitepages features, or have voice activated dialing w/ searching for contacts. We cannot have the "experimental" features Samsung wants to make on its devices. Just a PSA. Idk what to do tbh? T-Mobile might be trying to push its own Caller ID app, which not many people will be interested in if there are free alternatives baked into the phone.

Shenanigans like that should be illegal.

I think they also messed with the Do Not Disturb function... It's missing the rules feature that seems to exist in Marshmallow natively. I don't know what their motivation would be to mess with that.

So far, the ones I noticed that was gone:
- Whitepages ID
- Wireless fast charge
- Labs

I also have a T-Mobile S7E and don't have that option... Very odd.

I have silver T-Mobile S7E, and I can see the fast charge toggle on the battery page. I'm a little disappointed the whitepage function has been removed. T-Mobile doesn't want to include a free service to compete with their paid caller ID feature.

Hopefully a software update when the phone is officially released will solve these issues

It's happened in the past where people start freaking out because they don't see the fast wirless charging option
Once the phone uses fast wirless charging the option will appear in the settings
For some odd reason samsung made it so it only appears if you use that accessorie

The Samsung one they're giving out is standard charging. You can get one from Choetech off Amazon for like $20 though.

I think it was closer to $30, but I got one the same day as I received the phone and can confirm, fast wireless charging works just fine.
Edit: $30 for a fancier one with a light. There is also one for about $20.

I have no wireless fast charging option or the experimental labs but I am able to search businesses in the contacts/dialer apps.

Yep, the $20 one is pretty awesome. Big enough to hold the phone without any wobble, doesn't light up the room while you're sleeping.

I have the wireless charger from Samsung, but still no option. I got the white pages to work by just using the search in contact. When I began to search pizza a pop-up came letting me know I can search for businesses. Enabled it and it works now.

I can confirm this worked for me as well. Thanks for pointing that out.

In past version of Touchwiz Samsung has a xml file called Floatingfeatures.xml in the root of the system directory. It basically makes it easy for carriers or manufacturers to turn off certain devices as it provides simple switches to features in the smali. Im sure that this is exactly the same way and Tmobile just "turned off" the features for some reason or another. It should be really easy to turn them back on but we need root on the S7 first. My guess is that they think it makes it easier to use or something for there customers.
On a side note, i can guarantee that the reason that they turned off the white pages lookup feature is because they are trying to push there own name caller id service (or whatever its called) and they want to charge 3.99 for it. That doesnt really seem right to me but there are apps on the play store that can do things similar.

Hi there. Anyone noticed that Ad Blocking for Samsung Internet 4.0 browser isn't working? The option to use an ad blocker under Setting > Advanced > Block Content is missing.

Got my Xoom

Yay for my local Verizon dealer, who made good on his promise and sold me 2 Xooms today.
Initial impressions are very good... but with only 7 apps in the Android Market for tablets, the community clearly has a long way to go.
Here's your fun fact so far: there's an LED near the Verizon logo that blinks when you get a notification.
Now, if you wouldnt mind... could you not play with it at all for the next 12 hours and just have it run a video loop while connected to 3g and wifi to guage the battery?
Come on, think of the service that you'll be providing. We'd totally owe you one.
Are you able to download normal apps not made for tablets?
Or are you limited to only applications for tablets in the Market?

For now, you can sideload apps via the browser, but you need to go to Settings > Applications and check off Unknown sources.
For whatever reason, I can see some, but not all the Market apps. Compatibility flag maybe? Went looking for Beejive and it didn't show up. Might need to be updated to use the Honeycomb APIs?
I notice the apple bluetooth keyboard... does that work with it?
I only ask because I have one and sometimes I know apple products can be sort of a b#$^@ when it comes to connecting to off-apple brand items.

I was getting contracts for both, so I didn't ask.
Note: neither of my devices are currently activated -- Verizon's systems apparently won't activate any Xooms just yet, so mine will be turned on tomorrow morning. For now it's Wi-Fi, and there was no problem getting it to work without the activation.
It hasn't been released yet, maybe Google has some tweaking to do in their systems overnight before apps show up. 7 apps doesn't sound right..

Just tried it. Pairs and works fine. When you pair, it discovers the keyboard, and asks you to type a 4 digit code + enter on the Apple keyboard. Then all systems go.

If you go to the new Android Market on PC, you can find a NYTimes Android Application for Tablets. Can you possibly have that downloaded to your Xoom and give it a try?

Alee!
Open up the Xoom and tell us what mAh battery size is inside that sucker? We need to put something to rest.. claim is that it's 3250mAh.. we're hoping this is a mistake and it's actually much larger.
Anyone know how to get to the battery? I see 2 screws at the bottom, but I can't mess with those right now as I'm syncing over a ton of stuff to the tablet.

Yeah I saw somewhere, cannot remember where, but you have to remove some screws.
Surprised that Engadget or another site hasn't tore the Xoom apart to see all the bits and pieces and see what everything is already.
Sort of odd. Then again those no real reviews from sites either... just a wirefly guy unboxing it and talking too much about things he seems to know little about.
Question; How much did you spend out of the door total ($960-$970)?
All the major sites have posted their reviews and all concur that battery life is awesome. So who cares about the size as long as you get the life?
Its all about the power consumption and not about the battery size

$800 each + tax. So I didn't get the Verizon price for contract but totally worth it to get it a day early.

WIME Nano Smartwatch, looks nice

Interesting Android smartwatch here. It can actually be used as a standalone phone, bands are GSM/GPRS Quad Band:GSM 850/900/DCS 1800/PCS 1900 MHZ (can this be used on AT&T?).
What I'm not seeing is if it can be used as a dialer for your phone, so you can just leave it in your pocket and make and receive calls like the Gear.
What do you guys think? I'm tempted to get it just to play around with.

Doing some further reading, yes you can initiate a call to your phone with it, woot! It also has music over bluetooth and local storage. It looks like it has no speaker/mic so you have to use a headset with it, boo, but that's ok.

Feature phone software, bleh.
Although I guess for 100 bucks you can't expect it to run Android.
Edit: Hmm, just noticed no where does it say there's a speaker built in...guess you have to use a headset to use it as a phone.
Also only compatible with Android 2.3-4.0. Doesn't say it works with newer.

Strange, I was also surprised by that 4.0 rather then 4.x reference. And I think you are right about headphone 3.5mm jack as the only way to listen to the music. Would have been great if they would include a camera in there.

Haha, first thing that crossed my mind when i saw it.
Dunno why but personally i find most smart watches just tend to look either dull, or just plain awful. Maybe it's because of the space they have to work with? Dunno :/
You guys realize it's a phone? It might be nice to have as a backup phone, or if I just want a tiny phone. It doesn't run apps, but I never had much use for apps on a 1.5" screen.
It's interesting, I may grab one just to play around with. It seems to have AT&T bands. I don't plan on using it like a watch though, it's too ugly like that. I'd just stick it in my pocket or clip it on.

We're fully aware. It's just between recent offerings like the Omate Truesmart and previous offerings like every chinese watch phone out there, this one seems like too little too late to really make sense right now.

So I got one and got to say this thing is a perfect companion for a phone at work. Built in mic allows you to answer on your wrist and be like I'll call you back it also has Bluetooth audio out and wireless headset support. Weird thing is contacts and messages won't work without a sim has to have one active or not I'm on Verizon so its pointless to try lucky I had art laying around and it vibrates!! This thing is sweet to be cheap!!!

From the watch description:
Smart Sync Function: Can sync with smart phone, downloading phonebook and call history (iOS 4.0+ and Android 2.3+) to the device. When using Android 2.3+ OS, download and install the WiMe NanoSmart APK on the Android device and the NanoSmart will sync with the Android device (Google calendar events, new Gmail notification, call history, phonebook, sent/received SMS).
Have you tried to install WiMe NanoSmart?
I'm on 4.3 AOKP linario I can't say its bougus but the contacts sync but....... With out each and every number having the country code in it it refuses to call or message weird right? Gmail hasn't worked or calendar. I refuse to downgrade for it. I use this to get away with texting and calling at work via mini Bluetooth headset and a beanie lol.

Wow... sneaky bastards!
All phones on Marshmallow have this option by default even if it does nothing. It's a feature that Google is using for phones with unlockable bootloaders for increased security and it just happened to make its way here and on multiple other phones that don't allow unlocking.

Verizon wear24 any way to unlock for use with other carrier?

I just picked up a Verizon Wear24 for cheap. I'm a Project Fi user and would like to get rid of the verizon crap on the watch and link it more completely to my phone. I'm new to Android Wear but not to android. Is there a way to unlock AW and flash a more stock ROM?

The SIM actually comes out in this if you take it apart enough. You can replace with any SIM of your choosing. The real problem is that the phone is limited on bands as it is just LTE band 13. Let's say you succeeded in adding bands, you would still have an issue entering APN settings as this menu is restricted.
Without root you cannot add any bands. i did this with my tmobile lg g3 back in the day. while complicated it did work.
Has anyone rooted this watch?
Adding bands to qualcomm you must patch rmt-storage or any modifications to the bands will revert
then you have to enable APN menu as adding new APN is disabled on this firmware.
Since this watch was available at $80, a lot of people jump in to get one. Hopefully with time we get more developers to be involve. I'm looking to replace the bands. As of now I don't care about LATE. But I wish we can enable NFC for Android pay

I have Sprint. Will I be able to receive calls via Bluetooth (speaker phone)? I have been told different things. Also will texting work like normal (voice response)without the Verizon text app? Will it work like another watch that isn't carrier specific?

That's freaking awesome news thanks. I've been told by bunch of people that it won't work at all unless you have Verizon however it doesn't make sense because it's Android Wear watch

Check if your BT profile is set to phone audio.
Or reset the watch and start over

Bt is phone audio. I'll do a reset see if that helps. Hope so because it is a nice watch. Maybe we will get stock wear it soon and have the full potential unlocked.
Tried the reset but no change. Everything seems to work except the mic. Google assist also does not work for texting with ok google. Watch is solid tho.
