how to get whatsapp and other apps in "always on".... - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

in "always on" whatsapp, gmail.... and the rest app do not show notification.
is not possible to get it? because if is only for sms and missing calls.... is really poor to keep it and loose battery life

Calls and texts only from my understanding.

Loose 20% battery only for this in a day?
To get hour or calendar and sms and calls?
Enviado desde mi SM-G935F mediante Tapatalk

If all it shows is calls and SMS then that is a big mistake from Samsung. I'll definitely be turning that off at least until an Xposed module or root application allows changes to it. Of course, we need root first.....

For me, Calls and Texts are enough, but it's work only with build-in app by samsung, so if you use Textra SMS or another app, it's doesn't work....

Probably need xposed and a clever module to have full access over the apps we can add. I guess they may add that in later to add other apps but judging from multi window chances are slim to none.

I am sure there will be apps available soon enough to fix this.

Yeah, is not the first time that i hear this, hope so, but i donot think so

I think its a gimmick... I mean 20% battery life for that... I want a comparison of what it takes to turn it on and check time, sms, or missed call on average. I doubt its 20%. I plan on disabling that as soon as I turn it on.
I use my gear 2 for notifications anyway so I rarely turn the phone on unless using it to take a call, text, or add calendar event during the day.

I'm using always on display now, I'll post battery stats when it starts to die. The Samsung rep that comes to the AT&T store that I work at said it's 5% in 24 hours

Near 1% per hour is near or 20% per day, said by samsung.

Take a second to look at it from a standpoint of NOT everyone having a Gear S2 to do the checks. The repeated full screen turn on accessing proximity sensors, fingerprint reader and any other cores that wake up when the button is pressed..... to each their own. Just my 2 cents.

Yep the verizon rep I spoke with also said the battery drain isn't notable but we would have to do more testing in order to really see what happens with battery drain and always on display. Hopefully the drain isn't that significant but if it is I will find a way to disable it. Not worth the sacrifice in battery life imo.

I am not in disagreement with you. However I feel like that is what the led notifications are for. I highly doubt the always on will show you who the text is from or the message. I am assuming it will simply show a picture of a text message to notify you of a missed text and same for call. So the question is then is it really worth 20% battery for that when all you really have to do is look at the lights.
Also even if you don't have a smart watch get a watch to check time. Lots faster then pulling phone from pocket or holster and turning it on and then off and putting back.... Just saying.

This will make that one percentage an hour loss a non issue. With this settings, Always On will be off until you take it out of your pocket or bag.

Great point. With all my excitement over the always on screen, I forgot all about the LED notification.

Okay, so it doesn't work like Moto's Active Display?

N910F, "Android OS" battery drain - can't determine the cause

This started happening about a week ago... I didn't install any new apps in particular. I've attached screenshots to the post.
Screen-on time is a little below an hour in these screenshots.
As you can see Android OS and Android System are at the top of the list by a long shot. Android System seems "normal" in the sense that it has 58mn of CPU time and only 18mn of wakelocks (as reported by the built-in battery menu).
Android OS however kept the phone awake for 6h11 which seems like a lot. I'm not rooted, so I did the ADB USB trick in order to pull stats out of Wakelock Detector, and all of the apps clearly don't add up to six hours. Especially not the usual suspects like Google Services, Facebook, etc.
Diagnosis shows a LOT of system processes, and I'm not sure if that means 1) it's all good as far as user land goes (I don't have any weird apps) 2) there's a system process gone rogue for some reason 3) the cause isn't showing up 4) something else???
Does anyone have any idea what's going on?
I have the same issue. Tried greenifying everything. No dice. I reboot, phone fine, then stays away. I will say that my battery life is good though, but this riddle is driving me nuts

Me too - 910F - im on Lollipop, but struggling to make it through a day at the moment.
Checking my Battery Graph is the same Story - my phone seems to be Awake constantly.
Seems Android System is using it....
Anyone have any ideas?
I can only recommend rooting your phones and change roms or kernels.
TW is heavy on battery and if you change to a CM rom the battery life will increase dramatically.
I have rooted all my phones since the very first android phone ever made and i cannot own a non rooted device as the freedom of rooting is just to awsome to ignore.
Every time i have battery issues i ether change my rom or kernel and then my issues goes away...
Can't root Verizon unfortunately
Hmm. Try this. Unchecked under advanced wifi, the option to let Google and apps use wifi, even when wifi off. Since then, 12 hours, I have had normal sleep. Did reboot after Unchecked. . Premature to say I fixed it, but so far so good.
Update. Since unchecking that wifi option, phone sleeping normally still.
Update #2- after 36 hours. It's back! Awake constantly. Unreal

Ironically I see no difference in battery life.... Hahaha. But driving me nuts.
I get through entire day... About 3.5 screen hours on. At 7pm I'm at 20% typically. Maybe that's bad?

S6 Edge+ Overheating? (And battery issue)

Hi, on my s6 edge+ the temperature stated by HW Monitor says 55C (131F) , and sometimes rises to 70C (158F) then drops back to 55C (131F) or 45C (113F). I got it from Dubai and I am using it in the UK. It is the G928C model. Is this normal/is anyone else having this issue? Should I try factory resetting it and erasing all data?
Also the second problem is that I feel the battery runs out quick! Does anyone else feel like this? It only lasts about 14-15 hours from full 100% charge to empty battery. And I'm only using apps such as youtube, instagram, messenger, facebook.

Never had heating issues even after intensive gaming. However, if you're using apps like youtube or gaming during charging, I'm sure the temperature would considerably go up . Also, apps like YouTube, Instagram and Facebook are actually pretty heavy. They stream a lot of data over the network and would definitely affect your battery life.
Try turning on the Power Saving mode, I'm sure that would help a lot. In my phone (AT&T), I get 6 hours of screen on time and upto 24 hrs of usage (withing 6 hrs screen on) very easily even with wifi & data turned ON all the time.

[DISCUSSION] Doze power saving on Samsung Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100

As discussed many times in a lot of ROM threads, Android Doze power saving comes with Android Marshmallow. But only devices, which have a low power accelerometer can use this Doze mode. Developers can enable Doze in their device tree, but it won't work, because the system can't use the old accelerometer of our Note 2.
Doze requirements
Device implements the significant motion detector (SMD) APIs in the Sensor HAL. Devices that do not implement these APIs cannot support Doze. <--- Note 2 don't supports this
Device has a cloud messaging service, such as Google Cloud Messaging (GCM). This enables the device to know when to wake from Doze. <--- Note 2 supports this

During Doze:
Apps not allowed network access.
App wakelocks ignored.
Alarms deferred. Excludes alarm clock alarms and alarms set using setAndAllowWhileIdle() (limited to 1 per 15 minutes per app while in Doze). This exemption is intended for apps (such as Calendar) that must show event reminder notifications.
Wi-Fi scans not performed.
SyncAdapter syncs and JobScheduler jobs deferred until the next maintenance window.
Apps receiving SMS and MMS messages are put on a temporary whitelist so they can complete their processing.
How can I enable Doze in my device tree:
by adding the following to: overlay/frameworks/base/core/res/res/values/config.xml
bool name="config_enableAutoPowerModes">true</bool>
Statement:
Note 2 can't use Doze
There is no longer batterylife, if doze is enabled in configs
Kind regards

Hey there, sup?
Well i had to read some pages about doze and the conclusion is:
The device must have sensors to determinate if it's really not in use.
"That means no moving around and nudging the gyro or other motion sensors, no touching the screen or the buttons and no waving your hand around in front of motion detection and not connected to a charger".
The devs need to configure their apps to not abuse priority.
"Things like phone calls or SMS messages can get through (and thus waking up your dozing phone) as well as any app that declares itself as high-priority.
To avoid this "...high-priority notifications that aren't part of your carrier network (calls and texts) have to come through a Google Cloud Messaging server."
FYI : "...Of course, people using their phones on a network with a poor connection are still seeing battery drain while idle, because Doze doesn't stop your phone from searching for a better signal to latch onto....A very poor signal will still kill your battery"
Please dont get me wrong...i can do paraphrase what i read, but to make me understandable in english i prefered to quote parts of a good article from here.
I read others articles from different sources but most was about ways for devs to match/check their apps behavior for Doze mode. Like this.
I didnt test anything..but looks like that doze just need to know that your device is really idle regardless "this sensor or that sensor"...if your device can enter in iddle..it can be "dozed".
..."A device enters Doze when the user leaves it unplugged and stationary for a period of time and with the screen off...
Best Regards
Wi7dOne (just a newbie ^^).
Strange...
It felt like Doze saved battery on my Note 2 for me after I tweaked it...
I disabled the motion detection completely and send it to sleep after 3 minutes of idle.
Wake up was allowed every 20 minutes
Edit:
... oh my...
About 3 hours ago my Note 2 froze.
I held down the power button and it turned off.
Now it does not turn on.
Even if I connect the charger.
Seems to be a sudden death

Yes the Note 4 is nice , but I think I paid to much for it...
460 Euro via Amazon Germany.
Note 5 is not available in Germany, so the Note 4 is more expensive here.
The Note 2 of my cousin also died last week.
I tried to flash TWRP but it constantly gives me failes.
The stock recovery also fails.
To the Note 2 users out there:
Do your backup!
Dude i have one way to resurrect it.
1. Twrp
2. Format all the internal memory.
(i am pretty sure that s.th has gone wrong with the memory)
3. Of the memory hasn't been fixed. Change the memory hardware.
Thank me later. Try it now then let me know

Google Play Services stay awake battery drain

It seems that Google Play Services is keeping my phone awake for many more hours than the screen is on and this seems to be consuming a lot of battery. Had anyone else noticed this and fixed it?
I lost 45% battery in 9 hours with 1 hour of screen time and the phone held awake for 6 hours. Gsam says I lost 3.25% per hour while the screen was off. And that's with the phone turned over so no always on display active either.
It never used to be like this. I'd usually come home from work with like 75% left at least.

Same here. Cleared the cache. Works fine so far. #fingercross
I'm also having the same issue. It consumes a lot of internet data in the background..Do not know what to do
Use Google Service Block and no problems
More weirdness today... Phone held awake for almost 8 hours despite screen off and it sitting motionless on the nightstand while I slept.

Actually, I found a possible solution. It seems that it is the smart manager that keeps google play services awake by some reasons. Try to turn it off, everything goes right after that in my case.

Finow X3+ Battery Life help

I got my new Finow X3+ watch this past week and although I'm really impressed with the look, speed and overall capability of the device, all of that means squat when it can't make it past 8 or 9 hours on a good day with very limited use (basically only checking the time and notifications with only BT tether and cell on, no WIFI).
Not sure if it was bad OTAs that I installed when I got it or what's going on but I think it has something to do with phone not sleeping..If anyone can give tips to save battery that you've found for unrooted x3+ please let me know.
Also does anyone know of a way to disable the pedometer hardware as I'm pretty sure that's the a big issue. Thanks guys
The cell network is the batt hogger. What do you expect from that tiny batt? Because Watch standby is perfect.

It's true, since turning off cell service I can usually get almost a full day (7am-10pm) just using it as a companion watch with m2d but it's disappointing not being able to use it the way I thought I could.
But how are you getting 3.5 days on one charge? I don't think mine goes into full deep sleep possibly because pedometer always logging info? Please let me know if you know how to disable the pedometer constantly running since I'd rather use it and the Heart monitor on an "as needed" basis. Any help is appreciated.
You have installed this update?
Yea I did...should I not have installed it?
I read that drains the battery, you've seen any change?

Yea I noticed bit more drain after that OTA but not overheating like some others. Gonna try factory reset like sonia said
I turned off GPS and WIFI and also ios notification which was big battery hog and it made big difference. How did you stop other sensors and pedometer though? I can't find those settings.
As ios turn off notifications?

Yea I turned off the ios push notification like you're showing in your pic, was taking about 10% battery in mine too. It didn't have any effect on notifications from phone to watch cause I don't use iPhone. Saved good amount in battery too.
So you know how I can disable pedometer if that's possible?
But as ios notifications is disabled?

I force closed ios notifications from the running apps list but for some reason it still takes some battery. Anyway I solved my issue: I did factory reset and then downloaded a phone booster app someone recommended on the Google group page.
Went from ~8-10 hours light use to about a day and half on one charge with moderate use. If anyone has battery life issues for seemingly no reason then try this. Thanks for your help mad.
What phone booster app?
