Noting:
StickMount can utilize the "ntfs-3g" and "mount.exfat-fuse" binaries to add support for ntfs (untested) and exfat, but these are not included. If you place the "ntfs-3g" or "mount.exfat-fuse" files in the root of your internal storage ( /sdcard ), StickMount will automatically use them.
You can find the needed files here:

Yep. I saved both zip's, extracted them (no overwrites occurred), then copied to the root of my sdcard (not root of system).

When you say sdcard are you referring to the card which is attached to otg cable. Also when I downloaded files they over write each other because both zips have the same name and same files inside I downloaded from the link on playstore.

Hey man trying to help you but you have to help yourself a little .
1. Look above, it says, "place the "ntfs-3g" or "mount.exfat-fuse" files in the root of your internal storage ( /sdcard)"
--> This means it's not needed on the external storage device you're pluggin in of course.
2. Both zips have different files. The link from the play store is the same link I posted (for your convenience) above.
3. Wrapping this up: save ntfs-3g-only.zip & fuse-exfat-exfat-utils-0.9.5-static-binaries.zip to where locally.
--> Extract each one to the same directory (again they won't overwrite as attached).
--> Go to the root of your sdcard on your INTERNAL PHONE storage. (hint: this is the same root/top-level folder you get with MTP when you go to browse Internal Storage from say a Windows PC.
4. You can do it, I belive in you. Just do some trial and error if everything (you can't hurt anything if you're still not exactly sure where to copy the EXTRACTED 2 zip files to (hint: 6 to copy in total).
5. Please tell me you're rooted so you have permissions to let stickmount pro do it's thing. If not I'm sure you can figure it out from the above w/ a little elbow grease.
:good: :highfive::victory:
6. If you read this far then you're trying so I attached a picture so you know I'm trying to help . The rest is up to you my friend and please let me know when you get it working. (last tip is try ES Explorer if after mounting in StickMount if you need a quick free browser).

I had already done this but I wasn't sure which root memory required the files. so I left the zip files in both external storage and internal storage extracted and without extracting the reason for asking was so I can clean up the double files from the places where it isn't needed. I appreciate your help. And yes I'm rooted running DU Rom since test builds lol
Also it doesn't matter where you put files on internal or external I tried both and it works. However I get a pop up which says it's not compatible and I should format but I ignore this message as it still works.

Manual Apk installs on Elocity A7

How can I manually install Apk files from my Sd card? Is there a program I can get that does that?
Thanks
I have been able to just put the apk file on the sdcard /root directory and use the OI File Manager to load it. Select OI File Manager >> sdcard-disk0 >> (your apk file)
Thanks mercdoc.
I was hoping there was something in my Elocity that did that. I'm so new to this device I would not know it if I seen it.
For me it was easier to put number of "apk" apps on the USB stick and install them from there using file manager...it is basically the same principal with memory stick being easier to plug in and out..You can also put say a magazine in PDF format on the stick and read it with Elocity pdf reader ( there are several readers around) from there without moving it to device.

Hi 855Elm
What is the max size of memory stick that Elocity can use?
I believe the limit was 64GB, but I know it is at least 32GB.
Dale
From the manual....
You can connect USB flash drives to your Tablet to access external files.
The tablet supports drives up to 64GB in size. Please note that some
older USB 1.1 devices may have compatibility issues.
and I believe it has to be formatted as FAt32 not NTFS...at least it did not work for me ...
Regards
Another suggestion is to use the app dropbox. This way you don't have to bother with the sdcard.

[Q] First impressions & SD card issue?

Hi,
Just Got the 7.7 3g - so far so good. Screen is as good as they say
The extra resolution defn. helps with web browsing.
Not finding any lag really.
7.7 is just about the limit for my two handed use but i would say the original 7" was a wee bit easier to handle but something with time should become more intuitive.
Just a few issues - external sd card is somewhat limited. Might be deliberate by Samsung but does not make sense.
Normal user apps cant access to the external sdcard. Using connect bot, i checked permissions and it seems that it is mounted by the os with system permissions, where as the internal sdcard is mounted as sd_rw.
This can't be correct? The only way to copy stuff to it is to use the samsung system file explorer as it has system permissions So copy to internal first then to external - this sounds like a bug?
I have not rooted this yet - might then chown to sd_rw get rid of this ?? There is a lot of entries in the vold.fstab to make sense of. Not a hacker so just looking around. A bit too early to start soft-bricking
But I take these don't have protected bootloaders so thats why we can root ?
Video playback is v.good but I am not able to throw on a bluray m2ts file (obviously with the sd card issue) and play smoothly. I found Dice player can handle m2ts by renaming it to a ts file. It then can use hardware decoding. Still drops frames but still watchable to a certain degree. For all other files mx player is still best. I have lossy transcoded some "native" blurays clips and seems that it handle high profile h264 1080p at high bitrates very well. Hoping, formatting sd card ext3/ext4 will improve things.
On the whole very impressive device - plus more ics goodies to come soon hopefully.
I've noticed some issues with the external SD card as well. Only the stock file manager can copy files from the internal storage to the external storage. I was able to transfer files to the ext. SD via Dooblou's Wifi Explorer, though. Although that would crap out a few times.
I'm hoping that we see some new ROMs with a different file system at any rate. The 4GB limit is so 1998.

Requires root to apply fix.
There is a new permission that older file managers aren't asking for yet. The stock file manager knows to ask for it.

Simple solution for external sdcard write access on Android 3.2...if you're rooted
I've found a simple solution for gaining write access to the external sdcard (/mnt/sdcard2) on Android 3.2. The sdcard is mounted r/w, but the owning group is media_rw which is linked to the WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE permission. Unfortunately, this permission was not required for access to the external sdcard prior to 3.2 so most file management utilities do not request it when they run...meaning they only have read access to the card.
The simple solution, if you're rooted, is as follows:
1. Using a root-enabled file manager, navigate to /system/etc/permissions and make sure you have mounted the file system r/w.
2. Edit platform.xml and find the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
3. Add an additional group definition for this permission...<group gid="media_rw" />
4. Save the changes to the file.
5. Restart your tablet.
After this change, any apps that request the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission (which includes almost anything that access either of the sdcards) will gain group membership in both sdcard_rw AND media_rw, giving them r/w access to both sdcard filesystems.

I think you have to format the sd card in the tab. I been able to transfer files no problem. Maybe its due to the mtp for the internal sd.

Using downloaded apps or the stock File Manager app? Because I formatted the SD card in the Tab and nothing else can write to it. Now, I can drag and drop stuff from my computer via MTP, but that's not the same issue.
Ok, I'm trying to add the permission and it doesn't seem to save after a reboot. I'm rooted and made sure to mount that directory as R/W. After I edit platform.xml and reboot it simply reverts. Can anyone offer a more granular description to this n00b?
Thanks.
Edit: Nevermind. I edited the file on my computer and copied it over the original and am good to go.

Thanks Burhanistan. I had this problem too and did what you did to get around it. Now I can read/write to the external SD with any file explorer.
Hello,

Anyone with the same issue? Any fix?

Things must have changed as i got my P6800 recently did the upgrade from samsung and tried to copy to external sd and no problem for me. I never tried to do it pre upgrade but maybe the upgrade fixed that. Re i can copy and paste to device from my pc when its connected - to both device and sd. I can also copy using the the stock file manager from device to sd card.
No Issues here also
I recieved the tap a week ago. Now my 32GB Sandisk SD is here.
The Tap did at the first startup and using the described 12 MB Android update via internet conn.
Until now there is no issue between writing from/to SD over PC/MTP, copying between internal and external SD. Used preinstalled Filemanager and ES File Ex.
I tried it unrooted and rooted but not before the Android update.

Some people are reporting the above procedure is no more needed, however, with several apps (like Titanium backup, and a SAMBA explorer), writing to the sdcard (extstorage/.../sdcard) is still impossible (GT6800 updated to latest samsung firmware).
I have used this procedure and can state that Titanium backup works now with the SD card.
Thanks to many reading within the XDA forum, I have found this simpler procedure :
- download / install the "Root Browser Lite" app from the android market
- add write access to group and other to the following directory: /system, /system/etc, /system/etc/permissions (with root browser Lite, press on the directory name during 3 seconds to get a contextual menu allowing to change the permissions)
- add write access to group and other to the file platform.xml in /system/etc/permissions
- use the editor of "Root Browser Lite" to modify the file platform.xml as described above (you should have two <group gid= ...> lines within the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE xml block.)
- save the file. Verify that a .bak file has been created and that the date of platform.xml changed.
- remove the write access.
- Turn off the GTAB, then turn it ON.
NB: Titanium backup still reports a erronous free size on the SD card (401MB), but backups on the sdcard work.

damm, must forget something, just followed exacty all the steps

the automatic installer failed also
IS there a way to go into the (forgive the incorrect term) "registry" or similar, and have Android re-interpret/understand that instead of looking in "/sdcard"... it should instead look/point programs to "/mnt/sdcard/extstorages/sdcard"...
i heard that it might be called something like a "simlink" or "symbolic link"... maybe this could resolve the application installation issue to the sdcard as well as backups, transfers, etc... right now, not only do i run out of space too fast, can't install apps to the sd card, but as well, if i should run a hard reset... all my data erases! (yes, the internal "SD card" is erased in a hard reset)...
so, for all practical senses, when it says it will erase data, unless you KNOW you have copied ALL you user data to your "Real" SD Card, you will kill your data without even knowing it when you do a hard reset, even if you "thought" you were protected because "I saved my info to the SD card!"
(and yes, this was my experience today, so it's a fact.)
backup programs won't point to the sd card, (app manager, titanium, app list backup, etc)...
so unless you actively move files individually to the card (and know where to look)...
Bottom line... is there a hack/workaround on this that's not just "open up for file transfers" or is someone working on a ROM that might kill the partitioning and allow the /sdcard to actually point to a real external card?
Edited: Nevermind...

hi forum
i would like to use the EzyKernel v1 - 23/02/2012 as in post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513413&highlight=ezykernel
one of the prerequisites is a stock ZSKL firmware.
on the tab is/was XXKL4 AUT/CH
i successfully flashed the ZSKL2 - but that's where the nightmare started: i could not write to sdcard, busybox/superuser don't work properly, as i can't get root via su - which means to me, that there are messed up accessrights also in other places, not just the SD. the funny thing is, that i finally got the overclocking EzyKernel working, but not busybox + superuser.
does that sound familiar to anyone ?
i would really appreciate any ideas about this.
thank you
with best regards from switzerland

could you please explain what "make sure you have mounted the file system r/w" means. And sorry for my noob question, but does this fix allow to install apps on the external sd card or I'm missing something.

microSD card - problem of writing to

Hello!
I have a problem to write data to external microSD card mounted to my Tab 7.7. I cannot copy/move files, create folders, etc. there when doing this using the Tab. At the same time I can do all of this from my PC when the Tab is connected to it - I can create folders on the microSD, copy or move file. Also, there is no problem to read data form the external card by the Tab (books, for example). So, the problem seems to be only with writing to the card from the Tab.
Could anyone give an advice please? Thank you.

You can only use the internal File Manager app built-in the tablet, OR if you have a rooted tab, then use root explorer or estrongs in root mode to do so.
Basically, the microSD card is mounted in a very awkward state - normally you cannot move or delete files from the card, but with the built in file manager app you do have the proper permissions.

[Q] USB Port?

I have files on several USB flash drives. I purchased a USB to Micro USB adapter, thinking I could then access these files on my N10. I have tried it, and I can't seem to see the USB drive in the file manager. Am I missing something? Do I have to purchase all new micro USB drives? Or is the N10 incapable of this and the micro USB port is only for charging?
Get Nexus Media Manager. It will auto mount the mSD card and allow you to read from it. To be able to write to it you will need to root your device.
OK...thanks. Not what I wanted to hear, but at least I will be able to read the files. I still think this was a stoopid move on Google's part...not providing support for read/write to a USB stick. Bad enough there's no SD card. Good thing I LOVE the tablet otherwise!

Make sure your adapter is an OTG cable. OTG USB cables allow for data transfer and recognition of external devices. As mentioned above the media importer works for Read Only access. You can use Stick Mount and root your N10 for R/W access if necessary.

If this is really an issue, you can always throw on a custom ROM with OTG enabled. Then you get R/W access baked right into the OS. I believe craigacgomez's ROM and Task650's AOKP based ROM both have OTG enabled.
Thanks. I don't think I'm ready for rooting a tablet at this stage of my life. I'll live with using Box.com or another cloud solution. I'm too old to root anything! LOL

Your choice, but it's really easy with a Nexus and there are fool proof ways like mskip's Toolkit that make it a breeze. Good luck either way!
Hello! I have question. OTG will work on stock ROM with Nexus Media Importer, but I be able to only read files? Or I should flash custom ROM and kernel?
You could flash my custom boot image in the dev section and re lock, you'll need to root just long enough to copy vold.fstab to system unless someone mods the stock system image to add it, or creates a update zip you can flash with a temp recovery.
I'll look into modifying the boot image to create the vold.fstab then no rooting is necessary.

How are you "mounting"? You shouldn't use any apps or run anything, it should mount automatically, in /uskdisk or /storage/usbdisk
I've found that not all file managers will give me write access once it's mounted, depends how the FM works. ES usually gives me read-write, Root Explorer sometimes does, other times I have to click "mount r/w", Solid almost always works...
Also bare in mind, my boot image is for 4.2.1 not 4.2.2.
That said, if you don't want to flash the boot image, it's possible to do this by just editing the vold.fstab to point to a directory inside your SD card (which you always have write access to) and it will mount there (assuming you make the directory), no need to modify your boot image.
I use this way now, because I like to switch ROMs and can't be bothered modifying all the boot images. I just make a folder called "otg" in my sdcard directory and modify vold.fstab to mount there.

No problem.
Don't mount with stickmount, the whole point in my mod is so that the system auto-mounts it, which means you get global access. You can edit the vold.fstab with a text editor, if you're on 4.2.1 using my boo image, you don't need to edit it, otherwise just open it up and replace the mount location with a path on your internal storage.

I'm on 4.2.2. - so i just open the vold.fstab with a text editor and replace the path there with any folder on my internal storage?

It doesn't exist unless you put it there, look at my "4.2.1 boot mod + otg"thread for details.

[Q] OTG Cardreader's root Location in Rootbrowser?

I got a otg-cable which has a USB port and a SD/micro SD card slot. It works fine (I can browse files when tapping on notification icon, card is empty/formatted), however, does anyone know where it's root folder is located? I can't find it with rootbrowser or root explorer.
Tried /mnt/ but there's nothing related, not even ext-sd, only the usual SDCard (internal storage), and i tried most other folders, just can't find it...
I want to backup my flashable (ROM) files from internal to my SD card without the need for a PC (which i currently don't have).
I'm using CM13.0 Snapshot on a G2-d802
anyone??
Just a thought: If the drive is indeed mounted and accessible, you could try the "df" command in Terminal Emulator to see a list of partitions and their mount points.
I have already found it. Apperantly i did not get through all folders in "/mnt". It's root-folder is located at "/mnt/media_rw/XXXX-XXXX/". I'm not sure how i messed that the first few times.
Thanks for your reply though, at least you took the time to actually make one
