[FIX] Note 4 Exynos N910C/H/U Bootloop issue + Restoring EFS partition - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If you have checked out, downloaded and flashed RaymanFX's latest CM13 Unofficial Nightly ROM for Note 4 N910C/H/U users here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...-cyanogenmod-13-semi-official-builds-t3259878 chances are you failed miserably at getting back to Samsung's Stock Firmware as you have encountered a series of unending bootloops. The bootloops exist because your downgrading from Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow (CM13 ROM) back to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop (Your previous Original Samsung Stock Firmware), however if you've received the Android Marshmallow Update for your Note 4 model number and region as an OTA Update from your device or Manually by downloading it from sammobile.com or any other external link and have flashed it before flashing CM13 no need to worry you won't need a backup of your Samsung firmware (Unless you want one) as you can perform a clean install of your Samsung Marshmallow Firmware via Odin v3.10.7 Here is where the fix lies; i have compiled a series of posts from 2 very helpful XDA Members from the community because from my experience i have managed to rescue my device using their methods which i will mention below.
Firstly if you have made an Efs partition backup from your previous Original Samsung Stock Firmware in the form of a .tar or .img file e.g "efs_backup_2015-06-01_02-37-16.tar" or "efs.img" respectively then you are good to go if not leave this thread.
Also you will need to download a Note 4 N910C/H/U Pit file corresponding to the region of your Samsung Firmware so here is a link to a selection of pit files. You will need to create an account at sammobile or simply sign if you have a current account to see the download links here: http://www.sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30022
Follow FR34K-B1B0's helpful post on getting back to stock here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65414257&postcount=39 Skip the 1st Step since we are restoring our IMEI using our backed up Efs file and we will be using a different method to restore this backup.AND AFTER ODIN IS DONE FLASHING THE SAMSUNG FIRMWARE there is a chance that your phone will boot to the Stock Recovery and you will notice a message down there saying: "dm verification failed" so simply wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache and then reboot. Afterwards your phone should boot properly. Now close he's post and carry on down here.
After your phone boots up and you have set it you will notice that your mobile is not connected to your specific mobile carrier and you will see the Emergency calls only text on your lockscreen hence the Not registered on network error. Go to Settings--->About device--->Status and scroll down and you will search and find that your IMEI is literally not the one your phone has and that your Serial number is of an Android Serial number given to you from flashing CM13( Since it's a pure stock android software). If you want you can download the Phone INFO App from the Playstore to verify your device's information and if you do so you will notice that your Samsung Serial number is a bunch of 0's like this: 0000000000 or it's not even present hence wiped.
HERE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART FOR RECLAIMING YOUR MOBILE NETWORK CONNECTION, your IMEI is wiped and so you must restore it using your Efs backup file which i mentioned previously above. To do so you will need to root your device and the guaranteed way of rooting your device is using Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root Method.
Here are the links to the Odin flashable MD5 files based on your Note 4's Model Number that you must download ---> For SM-N910C: https://download.chainfire.eu/559/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-trelte-treltexx-smn910c.zip For SM-N910H: https://download.chainfire.eu/577/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-tre3g-tre3gxx-smn910h.zip For SM-N910U: https://download.chainfire.eu/557/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-trhplte-trhpltexx-smn910u.zip After downloading the file on to your computer simply load the file through Odin, power off your phone and boot it to download mode then connect your device to your computer and flash the md5 file. After it's done flashing your device will boot to a custom screen with a red android logo then it will boot.
Right now your device is rooted and you will see the Supersu app in your app drawer. Next if your Efs backup is stored on your computer and is of the format .tar simply open it with 7zip or Winrar you will find the .img present then extract it your desktop. In order to restore your IMEI with this .img file we will need an update package that we can flash from a custom recovery(CWM or TWRP). Here is the link to civato's awesome flashable update package: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2331853 and you'll find the package down in the attachment. After downloading the attached file, rename your Efs backup file from "efs.img" to "EFS.img" then extract the contents of the downloaded update package to a folder with the same name of the package, copy your EFS.img file to it and use 7zip or Winrar to add the files to an archive(.zip).
Last but not least copy the new repackaged flashable zip to your external or internal sd card. Run Odin and flash your desired Custom Recovery(CWM or TWRP). Boot to the custom recovery and flash the update package and finally reboot system. After booting your phone will have it's Efs partition restored; your IMEI and Samsung Serial number will be back and your mobile network will be back on again. :fingers-crossed:
Special thanks to FR34K-B1B0 for he's helpful post on getting back to stock firmware
And Many Many Thanks to civato for he's really useful Efs restoring update package! :victory:
And last but not least thank you Chainfire for your great CF-Auto-Root Method that helped root our device(s).

[Q] Nandroid data deleted accidently

Hello xda members ,
I'm using GT i9500
1- As the title says , i accidentally deleted my nandroid backup files. I've already installed oscan rom and now i don't have any backup. What do i do?
2- Does sammobile website uploads some sort of nandroid backup? Can i directly flash roms from there?
3- Should i take imei backup ? Since i have no idea about these stuffs + i lost my nandroid backup data.
I don't want to roll back to old touchwiz but i would like to install the stock samsung's upcoming 5.0 and i also want to be on the safer side , pls answer my questions based on the above needs.
ALWAYS make an IMEI backup. TWRP has an option to back up the EFS folder, which is where your IMEI is stored. Another option that doesn't require TWRP is to install Samsung Tool and make a backup through it.
If you go to the Sammobile Firmware Checker and enter your model and country it will provide you with a link to the current firmware for your device. Click on the link and you're taken to a page where you can download the file to the hard drive of your computer. The page also provides detailed instructions on how to restore the firmware, using Odin.

so i'm not at any risk yet ?
Have you made your EFS backup yet? If not, do so now. Other than that, you should be fine.

N910F lost OS, urgent help please

Hi, I have a N910F in the UK. I was on stock BOC5 rom loaded via OTA. I then rooted via cf root and loaded twrp all succesfully. I took a back up and stored on external sd card and internal. I then saw stock BOC5 deodex so thought i would try. Downloaded the file and it failed to flash. I then used my ext SD backup and that failed, so flashed internal, all was good.
Then the crap hit the fan. I then thought if I went official BOD2 from sammobile then flash the deodex maybe better. Downloaded BOD2 and went through odin, it failed saying the file was too large. i then did a search and found a Pit file, so used that in odin too and failed at the same. went to recovery, it booted into download mode saying to connect to kies. Tried that and my comp didn't recognise phone. Reflashed cf root and twrp, all worked but can only see ext SD. internal says 0mb. i get boot with both samsung logos but then says decrypt and to reset phone. i have since downloaded a couple of sammobile roms and a couple of roms flashable in twrp and no luck.
anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I know this is probably back to samsung repair.
quick update. downloaded newest version of odin< downloaded 3mobile uk version and went through odin with this pit file http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3135354&d=1422307712. this worked, rooted, installed trwp, installed my ext sd back up and all worked fine.
Ok, another update, I have lost efs. i used kies to go back to stock rom and used my twrp back up to restore efs. it passed in 1 sec but nothing in the efs folders.
i do however, have correct imei, connect to wifi, etc it does however have the wrong serial number showing. does anyone know why twrp isnt restoring EFS?

I Just Cant do anything to my Note 3 n900w8, WHY?

let me start by saying I've read almost all your threads only reason im actually bothering is because I'm really feeling like smashing my phone to bits .... that's how frustrating this has been. my phone was rooted and custom ROM till about 4 weeks ago, when Tmobile told me the IMEI on my phone was reported as stolen ... i grabbed my box as my phone i have since it was new and compared the IMEI ... to my surprise IMEI on box and on Phone chasis was not same as the one inside phone .... my phone was unblocked by a local unblocking service here in PR so i went to them and surely they took my phone and lent me another one while it was getting fixed ... "IMEI" was being changed again and it wasn't the one on the box either ... the gave me lame excuse about my IMEI .... they kept my note 3 for a week almost 2 after i got it back my note 3 said it was rooted but i couldn't use any apps for rooted phones as it would say i didn't have root access ... as i no longer trust these people i went on and tried fixing the issue myself ... and here's the thing i have tried absolutely everything cf auto root tar from download mode and even thru odin all versions of odin and using the sm-n900w8 cf auto root and the right roms "different one's to see if it was the rom's or the phone" i am about to give up i simply cannot root my phone so that i can install a modified rom ... thought of contacting you guys ... as my last resort ... i am so sorry to bother i know you guys are very busy ... but if you guys cant help i will have to settle for just a regular note 3 and that sucks... i have picture of absolutely everything i have tried and the outcome and the errors i have gotten and all in pics if needed...
Please pardon me for asking for a little help i really thought i could done this i guess i am not as savvy as i have thought...
Thanx in advanced Emilio Pinella
Does the IMEI on the box match the IMEI on the label attached to the battery compartment?
Have you tried using Odin to get back to a completely stock ROM, flash TWRP, and flash supersu from TWRP?
Ok here we go ...
Yes IMEI on box and phone chasis are same ... the different one is when you press *#06# ...
Secondly i have tried usin odin but absolutely all the files i downloaded are in .zip and odin does not recognize any of them i tried to convert from zip to .tar but it crashes odin thats why i have tried it from recovery mode ... even CF auto flash for sm-n900w8 doesnt work odin does recognize phone so it isnt a driver issue ... maybe if i had apropiate files in right format i could try flashing from odin ... but i dont and i cant find the files in .tar which is what odin recognizes ... as i said i have really tried almost everything ... i have been wondering can it be possible these people lock my phone in a way i could not do anything? ... will wait for your replay ... my phone sucks @The Moment i havent downloaded anything as i am factory resseting everytime i try a new method ... just fyi i do activate devops and usb debug after each wipe ...
Use 7zip or WinRAR to extract the zip from sammobile.com. Once unzipped, it should give you a tar. md5 file.
hello again...
well i was certain of my answer but before i started writing i had doubts so i went and open all the files i have for flashing with odin ... and yes none of my .zip files have any .tar files in them , i have no clue why they are zip files if they are intended for use with odin ... so i went to sammobile.com and yes i had downloaded the 3 files pertaining to my cel phone and tried flashing the stock rom but none of them worked ... some just werent recognized and some gave me whole file signature error or signature failed error ...
i have Tesla-hlte-5.1.1.High_Voltage.2.1-Release-20150824 and its a zip and has no .tar, inside also have cm-12.1-20150423-UNOFFICIAL-temasek-hlte-V10.4 and also no .tar inside and its in .zip format, also have X-Note_Build_15_ND5_Public and yes its a zip and no tar inside...
SM-N900W8-4.4.2-(KOT49H.N900W8UBUCNI1) is my original ROM and it does not have .tar inside ....
something they all do have in common is they have an img file inside that cannot be open ...
and i downloaded files for twrp but jajaja also in zip and no tar inside , just an image file wich is not recognized by odin and not recognized by recovery mode either as i have tried putting all these files in my sd card and have tried doing from recovery ending with results of .... whole file signature failed and signature failed error and also wrong footer error i have pic of all this ... would you want me to send them to you i wouldnt mind... btw thx for your time i really apreciate it.
If the files came from sammobile.com, they are defnintely tar. md5 files.
How many times are you unzipping the file from sammobile.com? The original file from sammobile.com should only be unzipped once.
Well after last replay i went and downloaded all 4 available files for my note 3 from the one dating at 2013 to the one with 5.0 lolli i will do this again tonight and will post the results ... i am certain they will be the same as last time but can you please remind me of steps to take using odin and which odin should i use as i have a few versions .
Once again thx for your time .
I like Odin 3.07 which is what I always use.
If you use Odin 3.07, put the phone into download mode, open Odin 3.07, place the tar.md5 file in the PDA box, uncheck everything except f.reset time, connect phone to computer, flash, when you see the word "RESET" in the status window, remove USB cable, remove battery, replace battery, use button to boot into recovery, perform a factory reset, wipe cache, reboot.
Ok
I will do this from home as soon as i get there and i will post results any specific one you would want me to start with?
Start with a rom that matches the bootloader currently on the phone.
Ok
Hmmm is bootloader the number after model example UBUCNC1?
Yeah just checked and bootloader would be for my current 4.4.2 N900W8UBUCNC1 .... Also says that latest firmware is one of the firmware i downloaded the one containing lolli 5.0
So you downloaded the cnc1 from sammobile.com and there is no tar.md5 file after unzipping?
Just got home
I got home im unzipping and i will let you know in about 2 minytes if there are tar.md5 inside what i downloaded ...
Ok so far so good
All have .tar.md5 in them so i will try flashing with same rom version i have 4.4.2 to see if then i can root and flash a cutom rom ... tell you in a few minutes how it went... wish me luck.
ok finished
i finally got to flaSH WITH odin and now my phone is 5.0 lolli ... can you guide me on how to flash root with odin as cf auto root does not work i took picture of what it did when i tried to auto root tell me where to send it .... or can you tell me where or who might have tesla 5.1.1 high voltage rom or X-note in .tar.md5 format ...
once again thanks for your time and understanding all i need now is to be able to root it so that i may install custom rom after i actually find them in .tar.md5 format.
Find twrp here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2494245
Get the latest 2.8.7 or any 2.x.x 4.4 .tar.
Then get SuperSu flashable. You can google that.
Flash twrp with odin.
Flash SuperSU.zip with twrp.
It's rooted.
If you want to flash a custom rom just flash the rom of your choice in twrp. No need to root first.
Sent from my SM-G925F
Root is not required if you want to install a custom ROM, just install a custom recovery. I recommend flashing TWRP.
Find TWRP for your device from here (make sure you download the tar version of TWRP): http://teamw.in/Devices/
Supersu 2.46 is here: https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU Download and save Supersu to either the internal or external memory. If you put supersu on an external memory card, power off the phone and put the card into the phone.
Boot the phone into download mode.
Open Odin and uncheck everything except f.reset time.
Click on PDA/AP button and put TWRP into the box.
Connect the phone and flash TWRP in Odin.
When you see the word "RESET" in the status window, remove the USB cable, remove battery, replace battery, boot into recovery, flash Supersu, and reboot.
Ok will do now and tell you if anything ... but i read somewhere this version of android is unflashable ... but i will try what you are saying .
Which version of Android is not flashable?
Ok i gotta say if it wasnt for you i would still be stuck ... fortunetly i am riding 5.0 lolli and my phone is now officially rooted all i need to do is get tesla's 5.1.1 high voltage on it and i will be good ... so basically just need tesla in .tar.md5 to be good ... all thx to you .
Where can i download it or now that i have twrp as my recovery can you guide me thru on that? ... thx again.

Can i install stock ROM(zip file) using TWRP? N910F

Lot of confusion please help i want to go back to stock for my gear VR
According to
this thread where i posted photos of my phones INFO
I downloaded N910F( UK BTU) 6.0.1 firmware (.ZIP) file
When i tried to flash using TWRP it says ZIP file is corrupted.
I downloaded it from two website
sammobile
and
samsung.org
both are corrupted(it should not be i think)
When i look into it it has only one file .tar.md5
i tried to extarct it using winrar and it says file is corrpted
\BTU-N910FXXS1DQFA-20170726090446.zip: The archive is corrupt
Although it extracted the N910FXXS1DQFA_N910FBTU1DPL1_N910FXXS1DQA1_HOME.tar.md5
In both files i got the same result same
i dont know what to do now
I tried Odin and it stuck at "there is no pit file partition" or something like that
(yes i wiped out cache and system delvik etc.)
I also tried inserting PIT file but no luck
i would prefer without Odin if possible
As I can go into TWRP recovery
Please guide me or at least answer a few question
1. Is it even possible to flash stock rom using twrp like i flash other roms?
2. Can i install extracted .md5 file from that zip? will it be the same like stock zip?
3. Why my Both zip files are corrpted? your opinion?
4. Should i download again same stock rom?
5. Can / Should i flash or download and /or downgrade Stock firmware (same 6.0.1 )but different release date?
6. Am i downloading the right firmware for my device here is my device details posted??
Lot of confusion please help i want to go back to stock for my gear VR
Based on the amount and type of questions, I believe you need to read up on basic Note 4 flashing/customization knowledge first. Go and read up on the stickies.
Without knowledge and experience, we can tell you how to do a brain surgery, but doesn't make you a surgeon.
No, twrp cannot be used to flash stock rom. Stock rom are most of the time md5 files, used by ODIN only.
Since you downloaded the zip files, use the "Test" function to see if it is corrupted?
Maybe you should just flash a stock based custom rom with VR and be done with it.

Check your Winzip version. It may be old and doesnt handle large zipfiles too well. I had the same problem but I know the file was good as I downloaded it at work, and Winzip worked just fine; but when I got home, winzip failed on my pc - old 8.1 version. I used the trial version just fine to unzip.

Did you keep the ROM as a Zip file when you loaded it in to Odin?
Do not unzip the ROM file.
Try again.

Bricked G950F with Empty efs folder

Hi guys, a few months ago I tried to install a custom rom (LightRom) and I was stupid enough to not backup my EFS folder. It stuffed up my Sim card so I tried using a tutorial which said to flash a file called fix.regalstreak. After flashing this my phone was hard Bricked and after flashing TWRP, my phones EFS was empty and no ADB command could fix it. I still am unable to boot into any ROM or stock - even though I can get into the custom Roms install page and my EFS folder is empty with no backup so how do I fix this?
Note:
When flashing stock firmware, if I try to use a pit file with combination of AP, BL, CP, CSC it fails, but if I flash AP, BL or CP it works so CSC has an Issue I think.
However, when I flash with no pit file my phone gets stuck at the Samsung Galaxy S8 screen.
Sorry for the long post
I had the same problem but I managed to solve it by downloading the file: https://www.mediafire.com/file/z0z69kilpala6tu/EFS-SM-G950F-31-08-2018_03-48-37.tar/file after opening in odin put the device in download mode, use odin 3.11.1 open the file in the AP tab then press start, after the procedure, install twrp and install a custom rom I recommend the hades rom 2.0, the stock rom doesn't work the only problem and the device has a null imei
Thank you so much I have been searching for answers everywhere and you have saved my phone
