[Australia] Users Thread - Samsung Galaxy S7 Guides, News, & Discussion

I have preordered mine on 26th. Hero Black. Disappointed to hear that we are not getting Snapdragon processor.

Getting the same one here in NZ aswell. I'm thinking about buying from the states. Pretty sure it will work on our bands

You do know that Samsung phones are now region locked for the first time right?

It looks like I'll be going back to Samsung for the first time since the S3. Since then I had the LG G3 & G4. G3 was excellent because of the development community but the LG G4 - despite being a superior stock phone - didn't get it's bootloader unlocked and remains unrooted & unrommed after 1 year.
It looks like the AU S6 still hasn't got dev options for MM, so that's a little worrying. I don't want to be caught out with stock for another year.. I'd definitely pre-order, but I'll wait a few months to see how the dev goes (and if the G5 gets a massive price drop like theG4)

I thought that was only for US carriers. International unlocked ones should be fine

I preordered mine from Vodafone on the 27th. I hope there is atleast a working root available as i delete most System apps and bloatware that come with Samsung phones. I have been rooting for 4 years now and can't live without it

The order status changed to "Preparing for Dispatch"... Yay!!!
View attachment 3676064

Anyone got the phone in Australia? Or shipped? My order is still saying preparing for dispatch.

Despatched. With StarTrack now with status Ready to Pick-up

Phone feels much snappier after the update. Maybe placebo, also the samsung keyboard is fixed. Was having issues deleting text and it would jump 2 letters. XSA version FTW! :good:

I always tend to install the Google keyboard. Less drama with positioning for me...
Phone seems smooth enough, and only a couple of little things that annoy me that I'm fixing.

Official OTA 2.3.3 Release

Has anyone gotten this yet? I am still waiting for my update anyone know of the news?
Nothing yet. I wouldn't hold my breath.

My guess is Verizon is holding off on the Droid X update since they are currently releasing the Xoom OTA update which was planned in advance to coincide with Google I/O.

HTC Thunderbolt owners are receiving it as I write this. It is unlikely Verizon will push 2.3.3 to too many different phones simultaneously, to avoid any kind of tech support nightmare.
Edit: my bad...
It's the OTA 2.2.1 update that is currently going out to HTC TB, not the 2.3.3

I got this lastnight Friday the 13th...fricken shaaaaweeeeet. There is a predownload on Droid life you can run...but you have to be stock 2.3.340
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Hrm, I checked my phone as I read this, per my status line I have 2.3.3.340.MB810.vzn.en.us
I dunno, I think I have had it for a while as well, as my phone doesn't seem any different like it has in the past with updates.
I have noticed after installing Yahoo messenger app that it hangs a lot, but I attribute that to the yahoo app, not the OS update.
I didn't get it either and yesterday afternoon my phone was slow as heck (as if something was going in) but I don't look any different.
2.3.340 is just the system version. The Android version is still 2.2.1. Gingerbread will change that to 2.3.

Asian countries seem to have an edge in acquiring the latest cell phone technology, before the USA. And the best/latest phones always appear in those markets first.
Just a personal observation...
Sent from my unrooted DroidX using XDA App
Nate,
I think some manufacturers are treating Asian countries as beta tests for new phone models to make sure there aren't any big problems so they can have a better release in the "top tier" countries like USA/half of Europe. The countries they release these first in seem to have far, far, far fewer overall options, so if there's a problem there isn't much people can do, lol.

Well when your the country of origin for a product, I would expect you to get info sooner. I don't think China has the lasted Harley Davidson bikes.
Will post asap when it happens
I have a father and brother in law that are unrooted and waiting for OTA. Will post when it happens.
The cellular service model is different in Asian countries too: phones tend to be more expensive, but service (per minute charge) tends to be cheaper. In the USA, phones are cheaper because they are subsidized by the manufacturer/carriers in return for being locked into a 2 year service contract. These types of contracts are illegal in many European countries.

Are you guys talkign about the 2.33 release that is listed here ?

Its on the top of the list. But the release date is Feb 2011.
And if yes, why don't you install from here ?. I guess you need root to do that with a PC
If not, then what's new in this release ?

I've been holding off on updating for a while now. I keep telling myself that the official OTA is around the corner, and I won't need to update again for a while (I hate constantly updating my phone).
It's a shame that this phone will probably never see ICS (unless they can hack it off the DX2), but if it's not out by the 26th as stated on Droid-Life, then I'm going the leaked route.

My New Galaxy Note, pre-installed with ICS

I just received my new Galaxy Note from Amazon.de. Tried to update it with Kies to ICS it wasn't working ! Then I checked and it came pre-installed with ICS ! YAY ! I thought I'd post in case any of the devs were interested if it was different in any way/if the black crush was still evident.

I was surprised to found it pre.installed but I bought it from Amazon.de so it can only be stock (one would hope).
Highly doubt it comes preinstalled with ICS! I have received mine from UK (see sign) and it came with gingerbread!
Got my first motherboard it was gingerbread KK1 in both cases!
And now that i'm getting the second motherboard in Samsung Service Center they told me i will get a motherboard with gingerbread again!

Not quite true. There is an issue with SOME existing GSN units, but not all. There is a best effort utility somewhere on these forums that can give an indication which devices are, or might be affected by flawed eMMc software/hardware. Its not totaly conclusive, but its a good indicator. The fact that Samsung have pre-loaded ICS is good news, and they have either ensured the hardware is 100% or they have an updated version of ICS, or done both. I'm wondering if the OP could post which version of ICS they have ie 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 or something else. The OP have bought this brand new from Amazon.de and can expect to be able to use the device fully, as per the instruction manual without fear, including factory re-sets. If the device croaks, its RTM to Amazon for replacement or refund.
I'm wondering if the OP solarboy, could let us all know how well the GPS runs with google maps and navigation (should be near perfect with no screen flicker/jumping) and would he be prepared to run the Check brick bug App. Post the results. Its a simple app that reads hardware detail and displays the result, does nothing else, and its easy to remove afterwards.
Personally, I think this is a positive move. I did hear on the grapevine that Amazon are getting slightly pissed with the high number of returns its getting with the GSN, maybe Samsung have finally woken up. I do hope so.
Hi im at work atm but ive already posted in this thread the full specs. Turn by turn works great so far and i didnt notice flickering. Ill try to test at lunchtime...

That's good they started to ship with ICS.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but apart from the fact it says 'yes' to the brick question, the rest of the info does point to the problematic eMMc. So, what to do. Firstly, there is a factory re-set option in the settings menu, the user manual does not stipulate how many times you can re-set. But we already know that people have done a few re-sets and got a brick, others like me, have done several factory re-sets without problem (apart from other issues which I have posted elsewhere, but nothing to do with re-sets), and yet we have all got the brick chip. So, for a new owner, you can either run the device as is and wait for a software fix from Samsung, which will have to be verified by developers on these forums, because Samsung inexplicably does not publish detailed update logs, or simply say to Samsung, "I do not want this product, I would like my money back". In the EU that is a consumer right within errrr, 7 or 14 days, not sure check, but you can do that. Amazon have helpful details on that. The next option would be to root you device, all consumer rights going out the window the moment you do that, and flash something like CM9. If you choose that route, please do lots of reading on how that is done with ICS already present. In fact I cant remember seeing anyone flashing CM9 to a device with ICS pre-installed, I'm guessing it shouldn't make any difference.
Elsewhere on these forums, the Indian GSNs have been receiving ICS updates, or at least some of them have. This 'might' be the fix that guys have been waiting for, but as previously mentioned, Samsung do not state exactly what their updates actually do.
Its a sorry state of affairs that all we have to rely on is guess work, the work of independent developers, and the sad stories of guys who now have bricks. Samsung could have made it soooo simple, but no.
Edit: Solarboy, thanks for posting the screen shot.
Not the happiest of posts, but I hope it gives a full picture, and helps in some way.
Well for now I,m going to leave "as is"; after Winmo6.5 this is heaven. I'm sure I'll at least root at some point, I was posting so as to let you all know.. I'm still exploring androidland!

How i support this sentence! Even thought i got my Note bricked 2 times in a row.. i won't change to any other phone in the market currently because i really love my Note

So... My Verizon LG G4 shipped with "MODIFIED" firmware...

So a lil background on me... I'm very experienced in phone rooting and the like. I work for Best Buy Mobile, and see all the new stuff well before anyone else. I played with the LG G4 a month before release and it was love at first sight. Well I ordered mine thru my concessions line I have thru work and it arrived yesterday. I opened it, activated it and immediately turned on developers options, mainly because I knew some animations were turned off. Well, I had to look at the software version, and it said "MODIFIED".
I purchased the one with the leather back. It is completely stock, I've not even attempted to try root, if we even have it yet. Did anyone else purchase theirs and it have " MODIFIED" software?

Same here. I imagine activating Developer's Options, and/or turning on debugging does it.
Pretty sure it said Modified before I turned on Dev Opts.

I read somewhere in this forums that a lot of Verizon G4 users claim that it arrived as modified. They suspected that Verizon disabling some functions, such as FM radio, might have caused it and didn't double check to see the software version.
If I were you I'll contact Verizon to double check.

I picked it up 6/15 at my local Best Buy.
Mine says official.
I picked up mine from Verizon on Saturday, says "Official" .. enabled Developer mode .. rebooted .. still says "Official".
As stated on other threads, 'Modified' or 'Official' doesn't mean anything here.

Nougat update, to little to late?

I read the axon 7 won't get nougat till January I can only assume the mini might get it at the same time. Anybody else disappointed ? 7.1 is already out, but then who knows what will be available by then. i was thinking about swapping mine because it's getting useless reception but now I may just return it.
I just received an update. Makes it much smoother and faster.

I got Spanish one of it on on English obviously and has all the right frequencies for UK well at least 4G & 3g as I have a H3G sim with dosen't connect to anything below 3G if you put a three,co,uk sim in a 2G fone it just says,no signal SOS calls only, or same if you set your phone to 2G only, don't know why this is maybe because the started there company when 3G came out and didn't see the point of paying or building backwards technology and knee it was a cheap waste of money and they were the 1st co to offer 3G in UK
. The phones where massive at the time I remember and I as they never really had much advertising campaigns I had no idea what what 3G was I thought it was a cheap Co using someone else's network and only selling a monopoly of massive cheap fones since others wouldn't work on there network lol, I now I see the were years ahead of there time, They had first internet fones, face to face calling etc etc , anyway waaay of topic here I can't find b21 American or the bets 7.1.2 b2 roms away where I'd love Nuagat on my axon mini swell but just have to wait or keep googling ftp site filetype:rar, zip, rom etc & "last modified" inurl:ftp "up to higher fitectory" d2017b b21 or b09 etc if I find it I will share it here in b09 already has been shared so , next one to I'll share cheers

Verizon FINALLY Gets Android 11 Rolling!

Just read an article that T-Mobile and AT&T have rolled out Android 3.0 so I decided to check.
Lo' and behold, Verizon is right in lock step!

Got it as well and so far it's running smoothly
You guys have any luck when accessing the Chat Settings in Samsung Messages or are you getting an error as well?

That's a different one than I am getting.
Man I haven't got the update yet and I been checking everyday lol
Is there any reason why the firmware still isn't able to download through Frija or elsewhere?
Got Mine
Got the update as well, and also got the error message when trying to use the chat features in Samsung Messages. Ran around with Verizon and Samsung and the gist of it is that it's a Samsung Messages error that will need an app update for.
I don't know if I want to use it anymore, though, because I thought it was going to use the Google RCS but it looks like it's only going to use the VZW version which, my understanding is, only works with other VZW customers with the approved phones. So looks like I'll stick with Google Messages.
what finally??? the whole world is getting it in January.

I appreciate the reference but the VZW firmware is CTL4 and the update comes with a way to enable low band 5G so I need that specific firmware, I appreciate the help though!

yeah, I decided to say **** it and just flash CTL2. If I have to, I'll roll back in the future and reupdate to be on official VZW. It's not like I haven't done it before lol

Lol join the f**k and flash crew. It's almost customary for me to download every firmware for each compatible region and see what flashes and what doesn't lol. Call me reckless.

Right? Lol I still can't get 5G though, I've already swapped 6 SIM cards and nothing. It'll stick for a little while with the new SIM but after a reboot I get sent back to LTE, not even LTE+. Which is weird considering Spectrum uses the exact same towers/firmware as Verizon which is why I was confused as to why I didn't receive the CTL4 update.

That's odd. I also have the tendency to swap between LTE then 5G but generally it only occurs when I'm on Wi-Fi. After disabling it, it will stays on 5G low band. Might just be the area because VZW just flipped the switch in my area maybe a couple of weeks ago.

So, it changes quite a bit at times.
I got the update using Verizon firmware. The phone feels fast and 5G low band is the same as before. Now the things I dislike:
1. The Samsung clock font used on the AOD, lockscreen, and notification is a throwback to the S3 days and looks cartoony. The Roboto font was cleaner and more consistent.
2. The battery life is terrible so far. I'm dropping about 10% per hour whereas I could go a full 24 hours before.
I'm going to see if rolling back via ODIN works. Might see if the November Android 10 firmware for the U1 has low band 5G support.

Hmmm might be because I'm on spectrum, so I'm using verizon network but yet at the same time I'm not verizon? I'm constantly stuck on LTE and the speeds, well pretty much suck. I don't complain much as my medical condition keeps me at home 24/7 anyways and I have 200Mbps wifi so I'm not too worried. My only issue is that I paid for a 5G device so I kinda want to see what the hype is about 5G speeds.

I get what you mean. I don't think we'll get 5G UW anytime soon in my area but the next closest place that supports it is ATL, so at some point in time I'll go up that way to test what the whole hype is about. I generally use wifi as well, so I got the 20 ultra for the 108MP and future proofing, especially when I get BL unlock and root.
