Bootloader unlock without losing data, is it possible? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am already unlocked and rooted, but I would like to relock the bootloader assuming that I can unlock it for future updates without losing data. The Nexus 5 had a boot locker app in the App Store which allowed this, but I do not find an option for the 6 P. I'm thinking it may not be possible but thought I would ask. Thank you in advance

No, you can't unlock the bootloader without wiping the device, it's a security feature. I'd advise keeping the bootloader unlocked anyway, if you somehow end up in a boot loop and need to flash the factory images to get the phone booting again you'll be forced to unlock the bootloader. This will wipe the device and you'll have no way to back up your data first. This may seem like an unlikely scenario but it happens more than you'd realise, sometimes randomly, sometimes because an OTA failed for whatever reason. Sure, you don't have the extra security of a locked bootloader but if you actually take care of your device this is a non-issue.

Only thing I can think of is waiting for a hack based root for mm or n and using that to temporarily gain root. Otherwise, just take a bunch of screenshots of prior chats then live with not being able to scroll up and immediately view them.

I don't know specifically about Kik, but you might explore Helium backup. In some situations it can back up apps and app data without root. (By activating the backup using a physical connection to your desktop computer.). Good luck!

The appa should be backed up if you turn that feature on in your Google settings.
You can back up most data with ADB.
Nobody is investing time in root without an unlocked bootloader.
It just doesn't make sense.

Don't lock the bootloader. You can get stuck in an infinite bootloop. If you want to get OTA updates download official firmware for your phone, flash AP, CP, BL and for CSC use HOME file. If you use HOME you won't lose the data, you will lose root but you can get OTA updates!

[Q] Should I root my N7 3G before or after activating with AT&T?

UPS says my new N7 3G will be delivered today and I just wondered whether I should go through the process of activating it before I root it? Will I need to activate it again after rooting (since all user data is lost)?
FWIW, I'm planning to root using the techniques in this thread, CF-autoroot.
Any suggestions or warnings would be appreciated.

Hi, VandVisX...
I would tentatively suggest 'before'... certainly unlocking the BOOTLOADER first... (You can root anytime after).
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Which essentially performs a factory reset... you will have to re-enter your WiFi key, Gmail account settings (for PlayStore purposes)... and any other settings.
(Any media currently stored on the device... pictures, music, videos, documents... will all be lost).
You can root (and unroot... and then root again, should you so chose, pretty much any time you like... and as many times as you like, without effecting your settings or Google Play Store Apps... or your pics, videos or music files).
BUT IT'S UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE FIRST... BEFORE YOU SET ANYTHING UP... (or you'll have to do it all again... afterwards).
Rgrds,
Ged.

Note 4 pin changed itself.

My girlfriend has a note 4 we where casting songs to YouTube when the pin changed itself. Any info on this or how to fix as she is locked out and none of our Google searches seem to help.
Was it rooted ?

How did that happen?
Now completely stock. She casted a song on YouTube then went to unlock her phone and the pin would not work

If you manage to root the device through odin and install twrp or any recovery, then you can flash this file :

This will reset any security to swipe.

There isnt any need to wipe data if you use cf- auto root. Before rooting make sure that twrp can be installed via odin. It doesnt matters what your security was, it will be reset to swipe.
When i root my phone, I never format or wipe anything, unless I want to flash a rom.
Incase something goes wrong, flash the stock rom, you wont have to format it.
You can find that on sammmobile site.
Do you have any experience in rooting?
If something goes wrong while installing twrp, like error while booting the device or bootloop on samsung Logo, then just flash the cfauto root file, it will restore your stock recovery.
Warning: There surely is a risk but I suppose there is no way out.
Let me know if it works or even if it doesn't.
Goodluck.

Question about wiping with twrp, dont know lock code

Hi, I'm trying to get my phone back. I lost my phones password that is used to unlock the phone.
I dont know my google account im using on the phone either. Yes this is my phone.
I dont want to get locked out with google frp either
If i put twrp on and do a factory wipe, will i still need the pin?
Also, my phone doesn't need the pin to boot. thanks in advance

No you won't need a pin in twrp if you have not encrypted the device..no you won't need pin to boot, but frp might get you..not sure how that works, I also feel like there are files you can delete through twrp to remove lock code, someone else will have to confirm this though, just something I heard
thanks but its not a concern now. I was on latest official ota update, flashed twrp but cant get lineage, or any custom rom to fully boot. It just gets to the logo screen and wont go any further. I have not used my moto a while.

FRP is disabled on unlocked bootloader.
PIN can be deleted with twrp's file manager.
LOS - you flashed wrong build. You need custom rom for N Modem. LOS by Hashbang works on N modem.

Lock bootloader after root and ROM custom

Hello, guys.
Recently, i wanted to install the fulmics ROM (which is awesome) on my LG G6 H870.
So, i've done it, the bootloader has been unlocked, it's rooted right now, and i've got the Fulmics ROM which works perfectly.
But, i still have a question. When i boot up my phone, i've got this message :
"Your device software cannot be checked for corruption. Lock the bootloader. etc..."
This isn't a problem, because i can boot up my phone.
But i just wanted to know if i can remove this message, and how ?
Thank you all for your answers and your help.
This is normal and cannot remove that message. Just ignore it, how many times do you actually reboot for it to be an issue? If you ever need send phone off for repair just flash stock and lock bootloader again.
normal bro don't worry

dude I've got a question: if you wanted to get your bank's app working again in a custom rom/recovery is it possible to relock the bootloader in order to get older compatibility (mario kart, spotify options, bancoestado) but in a system like PA Quartz 3 or PixelExperience ? Or bootloader wont boot locked another system than LG?
I seriously need those apps but also need Android 10
