I dont even know what i have here. - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I live in europe, i bought this phone.
Galaxy S4 model number SCH-I545
Android is 5.0.1
Baseband I545VRUGOF1
Build number LRX22C.I545VRUGOF1
I did follow a guide to root it, this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/general/samsung-s4-i545-verizon-of1-root-t3254434
It went well, i think, i hope i mean did i even root it? The start up screen changed to some unlocked img.
Please help me, what is this phone is it an I9500,I9505 or SCH-I545
And today i read somewhere that i cant even root it cause its some VRUGOF abomination...
Slowly loosing it.
Basicaly i have 3 questions.
1. Did i root it?
2. What type of a ROM can i replace that stock rom with.
3. I only need to replace the rom cause VERIZON ROM does not have an OPTION TO ENABLE CALLER ID so no one sees my phone number when i am calling them.

I managed to get my caller ID shown when i called my provider and told em to shut down the CLEAR function.
But still i would love to have some other ROM then this god awfull Verizon one.

Boot into download mode and check the model there.
Verizon phones have locked bootloaders which make rooting and installing custom roms a pain. I think you have to loki patch it.

Also, the SCH-I545 is a rebranded GT-I9505.

ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SCH-I545
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
REACTIVATION LOCK: Off
CSB-CONFIG-LSB: 0X30
SECURE DOWNLOAD: ENABLE
WRITE PROTECTION: ENABLE
eMMC BURST MODE: enabled

That means it's a Verizon I9505. And the bootloader is locked.
If yoi have SuperSU installed then it is rooted. Though the unlocked img startup screen might mean you unlocked the bootloader. I have no idea.

1. Unlocked image with custom label on started screen means your system area has some changes.
To check whether your phone have properly rooted, get a rootchecker.apk from google playstore and run that app. That will tell your root condition. If you have not installed the supersu please install it .
2. AT&T and Verizon S4 have locked bootloader so it is very tedious to install the custom rom. You can only install the Touchwiz rom.
3. If you don't like your stock rom use debloater application to remove the apps that you are not using. I have AT&T S4 and that was what I did.

Application Root Checker Basic told me.
Congratulations! Root acces is properly installed on this device!
Device: SCH-I545
Android Version: 5.0.1

You still require a root manager app (like SuperSU) for it to work properly.

First of all thank you all for helping me understand what i actually have here.
I have installed SuperSU
So i mean am i set? Can i just install some clean stock rom from US?

Flashing roms does not require root. Root is just for apps that require root. To flash roms you require a custom recovery.
Flashing a stock rom can only be done in Odin. If you flash a stock rom, you lose root and custom recovery.
What you want is a custom stock rom. Custom stock roms are based on the original Samsung touchwhiz, but they are rooted and have custom options, and they can be flashed with the custom recovery.

Some Questions about flashing by ODIN

I brought my Samsung Galaxy S4 (China Unicom version) from China. It was unlocked and I was able to use it in my country pretty well. But I didn't get to install any of Google Apps. And then there's awful Chinese apps that I couldn't able to uninstall. So I downloaded AT&T Official Firmware 4.4.2 and decided to give it a try. I am thinking about install it via ODIN.
Now my question is as my phone is currently unlocked and if I install AT&T firmware by ODIN, will it revoke my current unlocked status? Will it take the device back to the AT&T locked status?
Installing the AT&T firmware will flat out fail. And you don't want to install it anyway, unless you like locked bootloaders.
You need to download an I9500 ROM. We should have one here, on the forums. Installing a ROM will not revoke unlocked status.

My Model Number is GT-I9507V and Baseband version is I9507VZNUBNK1 . And even installing I9507 firmwares failed. Only I9507V firmwares are accepted.
No Google apps so far and these awful Chinese bloatwares. What do I have to do?
I forgot that the China Telecom unit had its own model number. But thank you for stressing it multiple times in bold.
Since the only stock ROMs you can install are I9507V ROMs, your options are to root and debloat the ROM and then install the Google apps, or root and install a custom ROM. This assumes a custom recovery is available for your device.

Root for Core Prime
Hello all,
Were you guys able to find root access to the Galaxy Core Prime? If not, find the kingoroot apk and download and run. You dont need a pc to do so. If youre looking for a custom recovery i suggest TWRP. They have a build for the phone. Let me know if you have any other questions. I am currently running lollipop on a friends phone with it as I told her she needed root and of course she ended up soft bricking it....which is no big deal which is why i have this phone temporarily.. Im searching for an AOSP rom now. if i find one other than my lollipop upgrade ill report back.

try this: install twrp, reboot in twrp, reboot system. it will ask you if you want to root your phone. slide to root and will install superuser installer. reboot phone, go to menu and open superuser installer. it will prompt you to install superuser. choose twrp button( down and right side button) and twrp will install superuser. twrp is installed via odin. choose twrp-2.8.7.1.img.tar from the folder recovery in the PDA section of odin and flash-it. sorry but i can't post link

I could probably build a version of slim pickins for this device ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...rom-slimpickins-stock-rooted-bloated-t3250883 ), I don't have the device myself but the process would be similar. If anybody would be interested in this and or testing it for me shoot me a PM.

Need to know what firmware/region you all need the rom for I'm assuming INS/APA3 but I need to know for sure before I can start building.

Root Core Prime - from Scratch, Safely KingoRoot:
As usual, declaration: :silly: You may lose your Warranty or brick your phone.
1. Install KingoRoot for your PC. (kingoapp.com/)
2. Install Samsung Usb drivers or KIES and Smart-switch from Samsung to your PC. (drive.google.com/file/d/0BxlC2mqv2yMneE5FemFzd3dmRkU/view?usp=sharing)
3. Go to Settings > About Device on your phone, and tap continuosly on Build Number until Developer Options option becomes available.
4. Open Developer options > Check USB Debugging option and uncheck Verify apps via USB option.
5. Open KingoRoot on your PC and connect your phone. When a pop-up appears check Always allow box and select Grant.
6. If Kingo cannot apply ROOT by Safe method, it will prompt you. If you don't want to mess with warranty, please discontinue. Otherwise, continue to ROOT.
7. If rooting was successful, there will be a SuperUser app installed. Verify ROOT by Rootchecker from Playstore.
8. You can uninstall the Kingo App (not the SuperUser app).
P.S.
1. If you are running Jellybean , you may be able to get ROOT access without tripping the KNOX counter (Warranty Intact).
2. Do not flash any SU binary update other than from inside of kingo SuperUser app, as it will DEFINITELY void your warranty.
3. You can also try the KingoRoot phone app without a PC.

have you been able to do anything with it? I have the same phone but is stuck on the cricket screen, i made the mistake of editing the build.prop and cant seem to be able to sideload or use odin to replace it... samsung wants me to ship it to them.....not sure what to do yet.
Flash firmware?
Does it go into Download Mode? If so flash stock firmware, link available in thread by Shiny Side or Bogarrty. Worked great for me. You will have to re-root, re-TWRP, ECT. There are step by step instructions too.
Thanks agai to Shinyside and bogarrty for their excellent work.

TWRP and root for G360H
TWRP has one for SM G360H
twrp-3.0.0-0-core33g
There's an IMG and a TAR.
I can't remember where I downloaded it but if you search Google I'm sure you'll find it. After that install SU. Easy as pie. I've done it on mine and there is no problem.

Rooting Note 3 need confirmation

Okay so I'm fairly new to the forums but I'm somewhat knowledgeable when it comes to rooting and flashing custom Roms.. At least one the Galaxy S3. So I now have a note 3 and I'd like to root and install a custom recovery and then from there a custom Rom after a little more research.. Because.. Eff touch Wiz. Now I got the note from a friend and it's been fully updated knox hasn't been enabled but has been fully updated and I believe the same thing for the security policies. Now this is where my question comes in I found a method on google (galaxynote3root.com) to root and install the recovery I just wanna know if anyone can confirm this method is safe with the new updates and what not? I'd rather not brick the phone obviously lol anyways the phone model is sm-n9008w unlocked but was a Rogers phone.. Android 5.0 stock firmware and recovery knox 2.3 any help would be appreciated
Which note 3 do you have? Are you sure it's not the sm-n900w8? Depending on the ROM you install, you may need to update to the latest bootloader and modem.
Edit: read your post again. Since stock LP is on the phone, Knox has been installed and the phone would be running the doc4 or doh1 firmware.
The simplest way to root would be to install TWRP and flash supersu from TWRP. You're going to trip the knox counter from 0x0 to 0x1. Also, make sure reactivation lock has not been enabled.

Galaxy S4 CyanogenMod

Hi,
Im having fast battery drain issue with my AT&T S4, I read on forums that by installing Cyanogenmod can improve battery performance. Now before installing Cyanogenmod I would like to ask some questions.
1. Will I be able to go back to stock from Cyanogenmod ?
2. Which version of Cyanogenmod should I download ? I think v11 gives better battery result.
3. Will this completely uninstall all bloatware from samsung and at&t
4. Will I get more Internal space ? Currently I have 9 gb out of 16 gb
Also I have rooted by mobile using this Guide
Phone Specification
AT&T S4 SGH I337
BOOTLOADER : I337UCUFNJ4
PDA : I337UCUFNJ4
CSC : I337ATTFNJ4
BASEBAND : I337UCUFNJ4
KERVEL VER : 3.4.0-2960651
ANDROID : 4.4.4
BUILD NO. : KTU84P.I337UCUFNJ4
Thanks
You will also need a custom recovery in order to flash a custom rom.
You should be able to return back to stock rom with Odin.
Yes, flashing a custom rom will remove all Samsung and AT&T apps from the phone.
No, you will not get more internal storage. 9GB user space is all you get with the S4.
Regarding your battery drains. Make sure the battery is still good. If it is swollen you should consider getting a new battery.
Thank you for your reply.
Could you please elaborate the first line. How do I know if I have custom recovery ?
You would've known if you had one because custom recoveries are usually flashed by the user. Since you don't recall flashing any then you don't have one (custom one).
Unless it was part of that tutorial and you flashed it unknowingly
Problem is, your phone has a locked bootloader. This makes the whole process more complicated.

The tutorial I followed to gain root access was like flashing nc1 kernel than use towel root and than flashing back to nj4 kernel. This is what I did to gain root access.
Now can I install cynagenmod in my mobile. If not than is there any extra step I need to perform to install cynagenmod ?
Thanks

Yes. I told you that it requires a custom recovery in order to flash a custom rom to your phone.
Normally flashing a custom recovery is simple. But since your phone is an AT&T model, it has a locked bootloader.
Download and follow the instructions from here.
Good luck.
You should note that this may not work on your device due to the locked bootloader. Then you will have to find another method.

Android version: 5.0
I've heard of safestrap setup and rooting, but can you install any custom roms such as marshmallow?

First you must get ODIN which is a program from Samsung
GET Odin HERE : 3.10 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711451
How to use ODIN: http://www.samsungodindownload.com/odin-tutorial/
Second you must get the Marshmallow ODIN files for 4.4.2 Which are as follow....
BL https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891602
AP https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891890
CP https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891603
CSC https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891604
Using this will revert you back to the N900AUCUCNC2, OPEN ODIN AND RUN THE FILES ACCORDINGLY
Third, In order to easily root I found KINGOROOT TO BE THE EASIEST.. Make sure you enable USB debugging
http://www.kingoapp.com/
BUT you can Also Use TOWEL ROOT: https://towelroot.com/
Fourth Install Super User from GOOGLE PLAY:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....supersu&hl=en
open it and run it
Fifth, Install Busy Box
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....busybox&hl=en
open it and install it
Sixth, Install Safestrap by transferring the APK from your PC to the device and running it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/devd...ct/dl/?id=7216
Seventh you can pick a Rom from Here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/development
kuddos to @rootedi747 from post http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/help/rooting-att-note-3-lollipop-t3201986
Hi Felix,
Thanks so much for the response. Yep, I came across this to root and go to a custom rom of lollipop, but it seems there isn't a Marshmallow rom available for AT&T note 3 due to a locked bootloader.. :/ sigh
