Thank you for your input. Im going to check it out

Im trying to understand more about the rooting.
But there are some things that puzzle me. It is about the base band number on the phone. Im not sure which update to use. I have lollipop 5.0.2 on my phone and wish to root to novarom but Im not sure that I can use it because it has a different code //download.chainfire.eu/481/CF-Root1/CF-Auto-Root-kccat6-kccat6xx-smg901f.zip?retrieve_file=1[/url] ( [Recovery][kccat6][G901F][31.12.15] TWRP 2.8.7.1 Touch Recovery). So what can I use KCCAT6 on my FXXU1BOC4 phone?
I also understand that custom roms not always the best for my phone?
Do I start with Odin and CF autoRoot ? But I also see that I can use Odin with TWRP/CMW recovery and than download bootloader and modem.
I guess it is a bit abracadabra for the newby but Im really interested to learn more so please be patient with me.
I don't want to brick my phone so Im trying to get it right.

Galaxy S noob questions!

Hi guys!
So, I plan to get a brand - new Galaxy S i9000, after years of being a WinMob HTC user. Right now I'm just prospecting around and it's pretty unclear for me where to start reading about the root process the Galaxy S needs to receive. So I decided to call for help, if anyone would care to point me in the right direction with any link(s). Just keep in mind I'm not very familiar with the Android and I'll have a not rooted, unlocked Galaxy S to "play" with (and hopefully not to brick).
Thanks in advance!
Read darkstriders sticky. Download odin. Then read some more. You'll need to flash a custom kernel (cfroot) for whichever firmware your phone is currently running. Then you'll be good to go. Steer clear of anything alpha or beta til you've a bit of experience and know how to fix a soft bricked phone.

SM-G900R4 USC S5 4.4.2 root?

I'm really new to rooting and I bricked my old S5 by my own mistake when trying to root it. I got a new one and I just need some assistance in how to find the information I need to get this phone rooted. I've had a mesmerize and an s4 on cyanogen but for some reason I can't find much on my model. Am I looking in the wrong spot?
I'm sorry if I'm not supposed to post asking for something I could just search for but I'm unsure of bad roots that may brick it again. Is there an official thread for rooting these things or do I just have to look for community roots? Any help would be greatly appreciated
And if there is any cyanogenmod that supports my model that would be helpful. Sorry for the beginner question but I really want to be rooted again.
I just don't want to go through the hard-brick process again so I'm afraid of rooting but as I stated I really want to free this phone. A lot of money and a lot of time spent without a phone.

How to ROOT Samsung Galaxy SM-G900V running Marshmallow 6.0.1

Hi, I am having some trouble rooting my device and a friend suggested I try here. : ) I have tried using several programs on my own, which probably wasn't the best way to go about it since I'm not particularly technically savvy. My attempts to use KingRoot, Kingo ROOT, and towelroot were futile. They all resulted in a similar message being that my device isn't supported or something like that. I am hoping there is some other quick and simple way to root my phone without a custom recovery or anything along those lines. I don't know about all these sorts of things and don't want to try anything too complex. I also want to try and root my phone without voiding my warranty if possible, but I know it's not likely. I am hoping someone can help me find an easy solution. It would be much appreciated. : )

i am also looking for a method to gain root, unlock bootloader, debloat, and unlock network.
unfortunately it seems developers have not bothered to work on android 6.0+ marshmallow for the galaxy s5.
after all the phone is now almost 3 years old now and they're likely spending their efforts to work on newer phones and devices.
Already tried CF-AutoRoot? its in developing thread, works in mm
The Verizon S5 has its own dedicated forum. Check there.

S5 lollipop upgrade question

I rooted My S5 with this link https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...oot-method-t3561529/post71202995#post71202995 but now I can't get Samsung cloud, Samsung Sync or Samsung backup to work. I have search the Web for a stock ROM to extract those files from but no luck. Is there a way to upgrade to Marshmallow 6.0 and still keep root? The link that I used says you can flash Marshmallow but will loose root.
I would be happy with a rooted stock Marshmallow and may get back the Samsung account.
So my question , "Is there any way to upgrade from rooted lollipop to a rooted Marshmallow ? This link says you can, but I am not sure if it will work with the Toshiba chip.http://www.samsungsfour.com/tutoria...0v-verizon-on-marshmallow-6-0-1-firmware.html
Can anyone give me some thought and advise ?
Thanks for your time.
Scotty
Nah bro that won't work you will get stuck on the Verizon screen with the Toshiba chipset but here try this link maybe it can help you out kind of bc this is the closes you're going to get to root on Verizon's locked bootloaders https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...ow-to-flash-custom-6-0-1-roms-locked-t3393943
Thanks GUNSEY101, atleast now I know for sure and not just guessing and wondering. I think it is about time to trash this phone and buy a new one.
This one has been a pain in my bottom ever since I bought it.
Thank you for the help and clearing up the rooted MM delima.
Scotty
No problem dude glad I could help the sm-g900v is a great phone......When it doesn't have the Toshiba chipset otherwise you're right it's a pain so I'd say get a new one hahaha
Up that Toshiba chip is the downfall of the phone. I like the S5 a lot and have tried to live with it because I don't think the S6 or s7 is really a upgrade. So I don't really know what phone I will get but it will not be a Verizon.
Thanks again for your help
Scotty
Oh yeah I love my S5 luckily it doesn't have the Toshiba chipset haha and yes the Toshiba chip kinda ruined it bt Verizon has a huge stick up there asses hahaha and Meh I'd say s7 is a bit of an upgrade due to the fact they found a way to root 7.0 however it's very experamental right I'd say https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s7/how-to/how-rooted-s7-nougatand-fixed-lag-t3576393
