The USB driver does not work on my android - Zenfone 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have a asus zenfone 5 with the firmware 1.13.40.8 Jellybean WW but the recovery is CN.
For this reason I can not receive OTA updates.
I saw a tutorial for zenfone 2 on changing the version of the recovery.
The problem is that no PC detect my phone, I think it's a problem with the firmware, some missing file on my android.
How do I know? Because change the USB port of my device and all the same.
Please help!

Rootkit for Zenfone 5 A500KL Lollipop WW 12.4.5.58

Hi guys!
I have use this Zenfone 5 LTE variant (ASUS_T00P or A500KL variant) for about a year unrooted until recently the phone failed/bricked due to unknown reason.
The last stable version that I used before the phone failed was KitKat 4.4.2 (UL-ASUS_T00P-WW-11.4.6.94-user).
After a visit to Asus service center, they re-flashed my phone with Lollipop 5.0 (LRX21M.WW_Phone-12.4.5.58-20151013 044030443_201501281349).
When I tried to root the phone with the common Zenfone 5 Lollipop Rootkit available on the Internet, it failed due to some restriction in writing some flash part inside the phone.
Again, one more weird thing with this phone is when I tried the power button+volume up button, it won't bring me to fastboot mode.
Instead, the button combo will bring up a yellow text saying that my phone now is in CSC mode.
In recovery mode, I couldn't find the "apply update from adb" menu too.
Even in the .zip firmware file downloaded from Asus site, I couldn't find the fastboot.img and recovery.img
So, herein lies my questions.
1. What will happen to the failed root process? Will it corrupt my current Lollipop file system in near future?
2. Does anyone know what is CSC mode?
3. Can anyone confirm whether I can root this phone or not with the current setup? I really need to root this phone ASAP as I want to try to recover all my lost photos inside the internal storage with help from other software.
4. Can I still sideload from adb incase the phone brick again since I don't want to visit and pay Asus technician just to re-flash my firmware. I totally can do that myself provided they gave me the option in the 1st place.
p/s: anyhow, I wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone due to above reason.
I have the same issues with this model. I hope someone will be able to help us.
Same problem to me can't do anything .
CSC mode - locked bootloader.

TWRP recovery for a500kl too.
As far as I know the very first version of Lollipop on this device, WW 12.4.5.22, is rootable. I had no luck with the latest versions of firmware, so you probably won´t be able to root your current one. If you get back to this version using the downgrade version on the Asus website, you can use Kingroot to root the device. After you install Kingroot, reboot the phone, otherwise it will not be able to root it for some reason. I bought this phone because my lumia 710 decided to give up on life and it´s mainboard died. I needed some not very expensive phone with pretty good specs and big enough RAM for a low amount of money and so far it´s been working flawlessly
Did you manage to root? I have the same version on lollipop and have managed to root it and install TWRP.

Ok thanks

What's this firmware version?

My zenfone 5 (A500CG) is running android L with fw 3.23.40.49. I have searched on the Internet but the result shows that this firmware does not exist, exactly ASUS has never released this fw. I have tried to upgrade manually into 3.24.xx.xx (higher versions) but it fails. That error is permission denied, something abort, E:////something...... (i dont remember exactly). How can i upgrade the lastest version?

you have maybe beta version? i dont know, but asus delete some bugged version of LL like xx.xx.5x,
and for upgrade just download lates firmware, extract ir, flash droidboot and recovery and boot using ADB and then sideload firmware
dont forgot enable usb debuging
comands
fastboot flash fastboot droidboot.img (or fastboot.img)
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot.img
and then boot into recovery press "update using adb"
adb sideload "name-of-firmware.zip"
then you should delete cache
if you didnt understand, just folow this

3.23.40.49 is come from 5.3.3.3 firmware. Usually it use to downgrade from 87. Get another 5.2.2.2.zip from asus and put to internal memory to downgrade to KK44.
From kk44 --->kk54---->kk540----->L87

actually asus ever released that fw but that's the first lollipop for zenfone 5
but asus has delete that fw and some lollipop fw and some lollipop fw (maybe because of bugs or something idk for sure)
but now lollipop has started from 3.24.40.78 but there's a bug in lollipop even in 3.24.40.87, there's a signal problem when the signal can't retreive and you must restart your phone to get it back
so i think kitkat is still most stable ofw for asus zenfone 5

Help me Zenfone 2 laser ZE500KG Bootloop!!!!!

TWRP 3.0.2-0 (TeamWin) for zenfone 2 laser!
ALSO DO NOT FLASH WITH ADB! Help me. :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
Hey,I dont know if u found the answer yet
TWRP can just flash unofficial rom
not official rom
if you want official rom
you have to use oem recovery...not twrp
I m look for answer too...that is all i know
TWRP can install both Stock Or Custom Roms...it is based upon the update-script...
I had an issue where I could install any of the cyanogenmod 13 nightly updates past June 14th on my phone, a ze551kl. I resolved the issue by updating to the OEM ROM 21.40 from the Asus website. Hopefully this is helpful.
I downloaded the following files from the?*Asus website and copied them into the?*SD Card?*of my phone:
- UL-Z00T-WW-1.16.40.763-user.zip
- UL-Z00T-WW-1.17.40.1234-user.zip
- UL-Z00T-WW-21.40.1220-1615-user.zip
- UL-Z00T-WW-21.40.1220-1794-user.zip
I then used fastboot to install the stock recovery image. After installing the stock recovery, I rebooted into recovery mode and installed 1.16 and restarted the phone. After the phone booted into 1.16, I rebooted into recovery and installed 1.17, etc . . . until I updated to 21.40.1220-1794.
After the last update, I replaced the stock recovery with TWRP and l was able to install the latest nightlies. It seems like installing 21.40 was the key to fixing this issue.
An important side note : I downloaded the WW ROMs because my phone is a WW region. If your phone is from a different region, you will need to download the appropriate ROMs.
Good luck with your phone.

Chicken & egg situation caused by system & recovery SKU mismatch from the factory

Chicken & egg situation caused by system & recovery SKU mismatch from the factory
Hi All,
I've been stuck on this for 2 days now and I thought maybe it would be quicker for someone here to point me in the right direction.
This thread isn't for my model of phone but it does help explain my problem in the most clear way.
https://www.asus.com/zentalk/thread-14962-1-1.html
This is what I have:
Asus Zenfone Max ZC550KL
- Z010D
- 8916
- 410
- 2GB
- CN Recovery
- WW System
The phone is stuck on android 5.0.2 and never received the OTA updates. or it did, but failed. I think the reason the phone has so many issues with updates is because the supplier of the phone side loaded the WW system image on top of a CN recovery. Apparently this is a no no.
So now I'm trying to fix the problem but I seem to be trapped in a chicken and egg type situation. I need to change the recovery firmware from CN to WW. To change the recovery firmware I first need to unlock the boot loader. When I try to install the unlock boot loader apk through adb it says "[INSTALL_FAILED_OLDER_SDK]". To unlock the boot loader I need to first update android. But I can't update android over OTA because that isn't working. I also can't update the firmware by copying the latest version from asus (8916-13.8.26.110) to the SD card because android doesn't notify me that it has found this update in the root directory. I can't even update the firmware by pushing it through adb. It says something like 'Can't install WW firmware on a CN phone'. Lastly I have also tried using the ASUS flash tool but that was unable to extract the firmware.zip. Apparently I need a raw firmware zip for aft to work but those are hard to come by.
I'm thinking my only option would be to either find an Asus boot loader unlocker that works on android 5.0.2 and the Z010D. Anyone know if this exists?
or force the normal asus boot loader unlocker to install on android 5.0.2. Anyone know if this is possible?
or find a raw firmware zip for the z010d to flash using AFT. Anyone seen this?
Any other suggestions?
Edit: I figured it out. Follow the instructions for using AFT here https://ainotech.com/how-to-flash-firmware-asus-zenfone-max-zc550kl-root-custom-twrp-recovery/
I used AFT v0.34 because the newer versions either couldn't see my phone or couldn't handle the zip file.
I also flashed the old v12 firmware they have listed because I couldn't find a newer version in raw format. (AFT requires raw zips). But it doesn't really matter if it's an old version because once AFT has flashed the WW recovery, you can freely update to whatever WW version you want using traditional methods. I didn't even manage to get that version running because of boot loops. But the recovery works perfectly. From there it was simply a matter of downloading the v13 zip from the asus website and flashing it from the recovery menu.
