Note this version doesn't support encryption, I'd use squid's version of TWRP if you need encryption support.

Changelogs for Surnia on official TWRP site are from this guy:

hi
I just flashed the latest version in fastboot, if I try to boot to recover it boots to system
G

hey, i am trying to flash recovery in my moto e2 4g xt1521 and nothing is happening, i have unlocked the bootloader and my device is running on android 6.0 marshmallow
edit: when i rooted phone after that i flashed twrp latest image for surnia and when i rebooted nothing happens there were some files extracting in twrp recovery and then some failed failed stuff and bootloader warning sign and phone was not turning on. After that i wiped cache and formatted user data using mfastboot commands and phone turned on, but now when i am trying to flash recovery img again nothing is happening, there is stock recovery there.

Hey not sure if you read the instructions on the TWRP portal, if you flash recovery and reboot to system immediately after flashing, then there are chances the ROM does not get patched.
Instead, flash the recovery, and once flashing is successful, reboot to recovery not system
Code:
adb reboot recovery
Once you do this, it gives the app a chance to patch the ROM and after the next restart you should see TWRP installed.
If you still run into issues, I'd recommend squid's TWRP port, that seems to work well without issues.
Cheers !

Can I ask a possibly stupid question? What are the reasons one would want TWRP if no Android higher than 5.1 is possible on Surnia? The main reason I am looking into rooting/recovery is to overcome the 2 GB limit on the Moto E. I am sick of having to delete an app in order to install another app due to the petty internal memory size, whilst my 8 GB SD is 90% free.

in fact I have installed lineageOS 14.1 based on android 7.1.2.
so you won't have to install TWRP (or any other recovery) if you don't want to install a custom rom...
for me it's no problem to move apps to sd...it's supported by the system

My experience has been, I can only move 1 app to the SD out of every 10 apps. That's my only motivation why I am looking to risk bricking my phone.
Did you in fact install Android 7.2 on your Moto E LTE, or was it on some other phone?

I read somewhere CM13 was supporting Marshmallow for some time, but there is no longer official builds available.
Still looking for a way to overcome the 2 GB internal memory limitation.

Come on folks, this stuff takes time out of people's day, and work to get things copied and uploaded; the least you can do is click a button. I know that manners are a lost legacy, but people aren't obliged to do things - they do it from the kindness of their hearts, so at least show some thankfulness - some courtesy won't take any time, and certainly won't kill you; in fact, you'll actually FEEL BETTER FOR IT

What do you mean this update is for 176.x.x...?
I was getting errors with the 4.4.4 OTA through philz recovery.
So I downgraded to 4.3 and updated OTA to 4.4.2 - 176.44.1.en.GB(187mb) and then an update of (8mb).
Now i am on 4.4.2 and got 4.4.4 OTA 210.12.10.en.GB.

This mean, that this OTA archive is for version 176.44.1. This mean that you cant jump (for example) from 14.71.8 (Android 4.3) to 210.12.10 (Android 4.4.4) because you need OTA with name\version 14.71.8. When you apply it - you will have 174.44.9 (4.4.2, first update). With next OTA with name\version 174.44.9 you will have the last update for 4.4.2 (176.44.1), and so on.

Agree with you,but saw on another thread that some lucky members got successful OTA installation with root and custom recovery. I gave mine a try and it failed.

I don't have root to pull the update from cache since my display has issues that I plan on getting a warranty replacement for
Still need someone to use ADB and grab the OTA for this. My wife's phone is not an option right now...

I agree. Memory management is significantly better than it was. No more Chromecast apps getting closed while running in the background. Still running it through the paced, but it looks much better.
Did any of you have TWRP installed prior to updating? If so, what did you do to get back to stock recovery? I received the update this morning, but can't install it because I have TWRP installed on my XT1063 variant.
Can someone extract and post the boot.img?

Thanks for the reply! But is there a simpler way? Maybe a way to flash it via fastboot? Because root doesn't seem to play too well with my device. Keeps getting bootlooped and i know it's supposed to bootloop with the recent versions of SuperSU but it just doesn't wanna boot up.
Assuming the modified boot image for Root on 22.11.6 will not work with the update, and also assuming the boot.img will be overwritten with the update..loosing Root..
So we will be at the mercy of someone compiling a new boot.img.?

I found that flashing SuperSU caused a bootloop as well and was about to give up. But then I did it one last time and wiped cache in TWRP after flashing it. That time it worked!
The method I linked to get stock recovery back requires root.
If you can find a download of stock recovery from some random website, you can flash stock recovery through fastboot with fastboot flash recovery nameoffile.img

I can confirm rooting works well, I havn't tested Xposed and wont since I don't like Xposed. Reverting to custom roms wont affect anything. Since the new bootloader 41.1A is already supported by CM. I reverted to Alberto's AOSP no flicker or other bugs.

Official OTA is 208 MB yes. To flash that OTA you need to download 430 MB Stock rom, flash that then again download the OTA which is 208 MB and update, so that makes more than 640 MB download in total. But my flashable zip saves you 100+ MB as well as saves you from fastboot and those command stuff and all that. Simple as that.

TWRP OF 6.0 for Moto X 2014

I found a link on motox-brasil.blogspot it contains a working back up of 6.0 marshmallow.
It is only the system and boot therefore you keep your radios and bootloader intact!

It's in Brazil so use chrome to translate Install without rooting otherwise it won't boot.
It's working great.

Actually you're right the other is a back up of 5.1. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that you use before install of the update.
This one is the actual 6.0 marshmallow system and boot that doesn't change bootloader or radios.

This is what I get after installing a backup from blogspot
Okay, so I restored the backup, but after restoring while rebooting twrp says device does not appear to be rooted. There is a 'do not install button' and a swipe to install. When I touch do not install button, it does not do anything. As if it is not registering that command. So I have to swipe to root. Then it gets stuck at boot. I am on twrp v2.8.5.0

You have to press do not install do not swipe to root are you using the latest TWRP?

Actually you're right the other is a back up of 5.1. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that you use before install of the update.
This one is the actual 6.0 marshmallow system and boot that doesn't change bootloader or radios.

The link provided in the thread about Brazil update is a working TWRP for Marshmallow, not Lollipop. I restored it to my device two days ago and it's been running smoothly since.
Won't boot after restoring, it stucks on bootlogo. Reverted to CM13

Okay. After flashing the full 2.2.0-x rom(and hence the system partition will be considered unmodified?) , can I flash this through twrp ?

Use stock recovery for flashing this zip.. Without any issues.. As blusprark is showing an error of updated binary error...
I'm rooted with stock 2.2.0-x , can i flash the zip using the twrp recovery?
Is there a new modem in this update? I haven't used official OOS since getting my Oneplus x on release. Wondering whether or not I should flash an official update to get access to modems, touch drivers etc

I do sound like an idiot, I know, haha.
Anyway, I'm rooted, using bluspark twrp and as far as the posts went, I won't be able to flash it.
Can I go back to stock recovery - flash this zip - flash twrp again?

You can use the 2.2.1 full rom. I have downloaded it from the oneplus servers and shared it on oneplus forum. I don't have enough posts to share it here.
