Found this article claiming we can get marshmallow now - Droid Turbo 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has someone tried this yet? I don't get how they expect us to flash a custom rom without an unlocked bootloader. Don't remember my old acc info so it won't let me post the link: autoomobile dot com/news/motorola-droid-turbo-2-joins-marshmallow-party/40025169

Meh, this looks like one of those fake articles. We don't even have root yet so how are we supposed to update our phones without an OTA?

That site especially has no clue. They post lots of nonsense for click views for advertising. At the least they often state wrong specs, like RAM, resolution. They aren't professional tech writers. It's a website designed to entice viewers, so they get money from advertising.
If you post a comment below the "article" pointing out they are full of crap, it helps their advertising statistics even more because you're are on the site longer!
I just read the article. They constantly confuse Droid Turbo and Droid Turbo 2. They don't seem to know the difference.

CWM isn't available for either Quark (Droid Turbo) or Kinzie (Droid Turbo 2). Only TWRP is available for the Quark and Kinzie with unlocked bootloaders. While the Moto X Force (Kinzie) has unlocked bootloader, the Droid Turbo 2 (Kinzie) does not have an unlocked bootloader. They are full of crap.

No, the bootloader has not been cracked. However thanks to koush and his bootstrap app, we have a hijacked recovery that allows us to load custom roms, and themes just no custom kernels yet.

That is in-correct information. The Doid X's is far from being unlocked however, there is progress and there are developers working on it.
Whoever posted that may have been confused in thinking that the custom recovery (bootstrap), which is a secondary way around the locked bootloader, was the actual unlocking of the bootloader. While bootstrap is a life saver for the DX, the bootstrap is on lock down.
Thanks guys. I am waging a debate on a danish cell forum regarding the Atrix and its unloackability and I brought up the fact that most if not all late Motorola's had been locked tighter then fort knox more or less

They can't officially release it, just like they don't officially release any beyond the Dev Editions (which happen to also work on the "retail" versions of those phones).
It getting "leaked" or "found some place" which would later get posted to -> http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=0 is another story, but we have to be patient. As soon as they find it, I'm sure it will be posted. Just have to wait for them to get their hands on it.
I ask him about why are others software images can be found, but not receive any reply.

You completely missed what I said. I said that Moto has released images for the Developer X's..
Technically speaking, you did not get the "T-Mobile Retail X Firmware" from Moto. Their web site clearly says you are requesting "MOTO X, GSM Dev Edition: KK-4.4.2-KXA20.16-1.25_MR3 (Retail)"
It just so happens that the GSM Developer X and "T-Mobile" or "GSM Unlocked" versions of the X are all XT1053 and use the exact same rom. Just like the Developer Edition X for Verizon and Retail/MotoMaker X for Verizon are both XT1060 and use the same rom.
So yeah, moto has released the Developer Edition roms by request at -> https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/recovery-images But they have not made the roms available for the "Carrier Branded" Moto X's, like the XT1058 from ATT, or the XT1056 from Sprint, or the XT1058 from Rogers, or the XT1055 from US Cellular, etc..
And Moto does not own or operate http://sbf.droid-developers.org

Under the Development thread there is a Mac Toolkit. The guy who made it isn't supporting it anymore, but it includes mfastboot. You can manually flash the files with it. I haven't searched for the exact commands, but they should be easily procurable via a quick search.

There is a Mac version of Fastboot... but I'm not sure what all is involved to use it. (drivers or anything else??) -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/X-STUFF/Mfastboot-4.4.zip To flash this way, you'll want to unzip the SBF file, open the included .XML file, and convert the operations to fastboot commands.
For example, in another thread of someone trying to flash a Claro 4.4.2 rom, when we opened the XML we came up with -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52051769&postcount=18

I don't think so.
The only difference between the developer models and the MotoMaker/Retail X for Verizon and ATT is the unlocked vs locked bootloader.
As far as using things like RSDLite and mfastboot, as long as you are flashing a ROM that is digitally signed by Moto, you should be able to do the same things.
Now, any rooting, flashing custom recovery or custom rom, etc wont work. But RSDlite or mFastboot to flash a Moto Rom will.

HuH? How does having the ATT 4.4.2 SBF help/allow you to root?
ATT has a locked bootloader, and 4.4.2 breaks/plugs the exploits used by SlapMyMoto/MotoWpNoMo. So flash this and you can't root or disable write protection.

I'm on Verizon. I used Safestrap and the Safestrap stock-rooted ROM over on XDA to retain root. It has literally no downsides to me. Once the SBF was made available for AT&T, someone on Rootzwiki said they would put together an AT&T version of it. Hence, I can root her phone. She's still on 4.4.

[CONFIRMED] Moto will honor warranty after unlock

i sent punit soni an email asking about the warranty policy on the pure edition.
"you guys are advertising unlockable bootloader on the 'pure edition'. a lot of us on the moto forums, and even more on droid life and android central are wanting to know if unlocking the bootloader will void the warranty.
motocare is giving us both yes and no answers depending on who we talk to. please get us some info on this soon. pre-orders start tomorrow and this is very important to a lot of early adopters. "
"We will honor warranty even if you unlock. Wait for official post on this."

for SuperSU, can't we download it from the Play Store and it can install or something? I need root. I need xposed and the Nlpwakelock module that can reduce the amount of wakelocks from Play Services, which can help the battery of this phone :good:

I assume if all you do is root the stock ROM, you can just unroot (completely remove SuperSU) and you'll be able to get the firmware upgrades again. if there is one single change in the /system, then firmware upgrades do not work. but by restoring it to how it's suppose to be, then the update will see no files changed and continue with the upgrade. that's how it worked with the Nexus phones, and the Moto X Pure Edition is essentially a Nexus phone with tweaks

if you disable that option, you can flash things on the phone leaving the phone unlocked and open.
Here's a screenshot from mine. It's kind of strange to me that they're talking about security and locking features but it clearly says allows bootloader to be unlocked. But I'm skeptical, unlocking a bootloader in my experience has never been as simple as a flick of a toggle.

My Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo XT1225 has unlocked bootloader, as does the U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250, which is the device IDENTICAL to the Droid Turbo XT1254 (same FCC ID). The XT1250 runs just fine on Verizon with Verizon LTE SIM card (like a non- Verizon Nexus 6).
Speaking of which, the Motorola Nexus 6 has unlocked bootloader.
My point is, it's Verizon that is obsessed with locked down bootloaders, not Motorola.

Sorry, I don't believe you.
Install TWRP and root and post screenshot. If your bootloader is unlocked, that will take 5 minutes.
Another reason I don't believe you is because if this were true it would be all over the Droid Turbo 2 forum and over there they are still complaining about locked bootloader and no root. So, you really don't know what you are talking about.
_____
The Moto X Force (KINZIE) is the International version of the Droid Turbo 2 (KINZIE). It does have unlock-able bootloader, and has TWRP and root. When the Droid Turbo 2 bootloader actually is unlocked TWRP and root for KINZIE will work on it, just like TWRP and root for QUARK works on the Droid Turbo XT1254 (Quark) with all the other Quarks.
And over there, they are still ONE forum, just like all Quarks were one forum until a couple of months ago. So, it's easy to keep track of what's happening with all Kinzies.

Sorry to bust your bubble, but that slider...yeah, it was on the Turbo when we got the 5.1 update. I could slide it to the "Unlock" position until I was blue in the face, but it had about a snowball's chance in hell of actually unlocking the bootloader. As @ChazzMatt suggested, try to flash TWRP and if you can, I'll eat my words. But the days of an easy unlock on VZW phones are long gone.
So, I just bought a Moto X Style.
And on the Developer options, also have the slide saying OEM Unlock.
It said that, meaning, during the process, the system/ tool will need the permission to unlock
and that slide allows that to happen

Not relevant whatsoever for the Verizon locked down bootloader Droid Turbo XT1254. I wish people wouldn't keep digging up old threads that have been refuted.
The only thing that works with the XT1254 is paid Sunshine fueled exploit. Other Quarks (XT1225/XT1250) can be unlocked via Motorola website for free.

At least we' re doing something,no matter what' s a result.
Verizon isn't going to let Motorola bl unlock these phones until they stop selling them like the X
But there is a new unlock exploit coming very soon that *will* work on the 8960/pro, so most of us will at least get 5.1 via cyanogenmod, it should breathe new life into these devices for at least the rest of 2016, maybe longer.
Maybe there is a chance to even get 6 via cyanogenmod eventually if the drivers can be ported from 5.1 ? Or is that an unrealistic expectation?
Let's hope this new 8960/ pro exploit is real for the sake of those who have not had the pleasure of running LP and MM on their machines. My MAXX and OG Moto X have been on LP for over a year now and it ran much better than KK other than the cell standby bug. I just flashed CM13 on this phone and it is even better. Testing out doze now, seems to be pretty good on the battery. This is a great phone, if it is bootloader unlocked!

root exists on the (verizon) mini/maxx/ultra (same phone internals) because of work done by crashxxl to bypass the bootloader and write over the rom via qload driver mode - basically he writes the changes needed for root and SU
I believe he figured it out by studying the developer edition of the device which is bl unlocked
it works quite well, we have root and xposed but wp=1 of course
laginimaineb's next announcement will open the device for everyone but I don't think he is releasing a proof of concept, at least not for this phone model, so if you are willing, we could probably really use your help when that happens
I'd be happy to send you a mini (to keep) if that will help motivate you

it's kitkat 4.4.4 - the only option right now unless you have a developer model or paid for sunshine so you can use cyanogenmod, etc.
SU6-7 rom was built December 2014 (sunshine cannot unlock this one)

SU4 hasn't been available for a year now, maybe longer and you cannot downgrade these phones
verizon now ships all of them with SU6, so no sunshine, and verizon refuses to let motorola unlock the bootloader like they did with the X
