[FIX] Note4 Exynos N910C bootloop problem + Invalid IMEI "Network" problem FIXED!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Many members threaded the problem of Note 4 N910C Exynos version bootlooping when they tried to get back to stock 5.1.1 from a custom CM13 ( or any custom based on 6.0 ). I've been suffering the same problem for 2 weeks.
After tons of internet gigs consumed, cups of coffee drunk, and hours wasted :crying: , I found this solution :victory: ; which I really hope it'll help.
Let's start
Phone Status:*Custom rom based on 6.0 // **rooted // *** busybox installed "smart install" // **** TWRP custom recovery.
Computer Requirements: *Win7 or higher "I'm using Win10" // **Samsung USB Drivers // ***adb-Drivers ( download SDK Tools, install "platform tools " and "Google adb Drivers" Packages. To test it, run the command
Code:
adb drivers
in the folder where the packages are installed ) // **** EFS-Professional
STEPS[/FONT]
STEP1: Through TWRP, make a full backup; then copy this backup ( you should find it in the folder /TWRP/BACKUPS/(some no.s)/(your backup name) in your phone's internal storage ) to your computer, rename the backup "6.0". This backup has an EFS folder which isn't compatible with stocks lower than 6.0, but its IMEI is the right one of your phone (keep this in mind).
STEP2: a- In your phone - rooted and having busybox installed - apply USB-Debugging and grant root access to adb (for CM13 Users, it's a feature you can find in Developer options settings)
b- Connect your phone to the computer, then open EFS Professional ( you should receive a msgbox in your phone; check "Always allow this computer"; then click "OK"or whatever..... )
TIP: if you face a problem opening EFS-Prof., try restarting it, if not solved, make sure that: *You allowed the computer (msgbox of the phone)// **Your device is rooted// ***Your device have busybox Pro fully installed.
c- When EFS-Pro loads, choose the 3rd tab "Samsung tools" , surf to "other tools" and choose "Format EFS Folder" then click "Execute"
TIP: If a msgbox appears saying that permission is denied, it doesn't matter at all, only click "Execute" again, it'll tell you "Can't find mount points" this means it's done
d- REBOOT IMMEDIATELY INTO RECOVERY ( NEVER REBOOT INTO SYSTEM TELL YOU END STEP3 )
STEP3: a- In TWRP, wipe all except internal storage and microSD
b- power off your phone after the wipe ( if TWRP asked to install SuperSU, refuse )
c- Open in download mode
d- In Odin, Load the pit file of your phone ( search google for one if you doesn't have any ) then load the stock in AP ( mine is COJ5 Brasil VIVO ). Check "Repartition" then Start.
CONGRATS :victory: :victory: ,YOU'RE NOW ON STOCKUnfortunately , Your IMEI now isn't the one your phone really has, so you're not registered on a network. Don't Panic We're going to solve it .
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IMEI FixRequirments: *Your phone on stock 5.1.1 // **The same computer // ***The Backup we made above in STEP1 ( its folder in the computer should be named "6.0" )// ****Root Explorer app for your phone// *****Ext4Unpacker tool for ur computer
STEPS:-
STEP1: Root n' TWRP
STEP2: Full Backup in TWRP
STEP3: Move the backup to your computer, rename it "5.1.1" and save it in the same folder you saved the "6.0" Backup ( keep in mind that this backup "5.1.1" is the one compatible with stocks but having invalid IMEI ). Now you have a main folder containing 2 subfolders called "5.1.1" "6.0" which are the 2 backups
STEP4: In this main folder make a new folder "EFS PORT", inside it make 2 new folders "BASE" & "PORT"
STEP5: Using Ext4Unpacker tool, extract "efs1.emmc.win" of the "5.1.1" backup into the "BASE" folder. In the same method, extract "efs1.emmc.win" of the "6.0" backup into the "PORT" folder. Now you have "EFS PORT" folder containing "BASE"&"PORT" each having an EFS.
STEP6: Delete "imei" folder of "BASE" EFS and replace it with the one in "PORT" EFS.
STEP7: Connect your phone to the computer, Copy the "BASE" folder to it and rename it "efs" (small letters NOT CAPITAL).
STEP8:In your phone; install Root Explorer App. and grant its access to hte root (the msgbox SuperSU will send you)
STEP9:Using root explorer, surf to /efs folder of your phone's root directory ( it'll refuse to delete the folder but its components will be deleted ), then replace it with the one you copied from your computer.
STEP10:Reboot the Phone (don't Panic if it bootloops once or twice)
CONGRATS :victory: :victory: . IT'S FIXED NOW AND NETWORK IS ALIVE AGAIN, ENJOY!

Only full wipe using twrp - BUT FIRST MAKE A BACKUP - then load the pit file and the stock rom into odin and flash.
Then root, twrp and Flash cm13 .
Then start running the steps

Hello @HmanA6399, thanks for this in-depth tutorial, however I cannot get it to work. I've tried following the steps precisely two times now with same result, here's what happens after I do Step 3 (after Odin flash): 1. Phone reboots after download mode into GALAXY NOTE 4 splash screen. 2. Android in the middle and 'Installing System Update' goes to half, then it stops and says 'Erasing...'. 3. Phone reboots into GALAXY NOTE 4 splash screen, boot loops into the same screen once again 5. Stock Samsung recovery comes up, when I try to reboot same thing happens and I end up in recovery. In recovery it says 'dm-verity verification failed...' 'Need to check DRK first...'.
Any thoughts?
Thank you again.
EDIT: Nevermind! I tried flashing again, but I also included stock COJ5 BL in Odin as well, I'm back to stock 5.1.1 FINALLY!!! Thank you for your tutorial, you saved me a lot of nerves on unstable CM13.
ANOTHER EDIT... : I restored my imei from CM13, but still Emergency Calls Only. What to dooo?

Hi bro, my device is N910H and i want to flash it with COJ5 Brazil N910C same as you. Did it will work or i need flash with COJ4 for N910H ? Because N910C and N910H it's EXYNOS but i never flash with different type

I restored it following your steps, but that didn't work.
HOWEVER If somebody has an old EFS Backup from HERE or another tool of your choice that has efs.img, I used THIS app to restore the old efs.img, rebooted and soon enough I had the little LTE badge up top. All solved and rocking 5.1.1 once again!

I've put the ext4 unpacked amoung the other efs files , and it gives me the same result , please show me how to extract this efs1.emmc.win file

STEP1: Through TWRP, make a full backup; then copy this backup ( you should find it in the folder /TWRP/BACKUPS/(some no.s)/(your backup name) in your phone's internal storage ) to your computer, rename the backup "6.0".

[Solved] cant restore nand backup

if in recovery use "Nand restore" i get "Error: run ' nandroid- mobile. sh restore ' via console!"
i connect to Hero via adb, i use "cd" to navigate to folder where backup is (/sdcard/nandroid/HT97WL903118/BDES-20100917-2023/) but when i run
"nandroid-backup.sh restore"
and i press enter i get this:
"nandroid.md5 not found, cannot verify backup data"
i try search it but in nandroid folder i found only 3 files (boot.img data.img system.img) in folder /sdcard/nandroid/HT97WL903118/BDES-20100917-2023/
Did you rename the backup?
If you did, change it back (their name is the time and date they were made, go on properties to find out.)
If not, you may have no option but to ask a dev to apply it to a MOD...
I'm not that good at giving advice but I have had the same problem and did solve it.
i dont rename anything or change
Create the .md5 manually. There are plenty of programs that can create md5 hashes from files, google for them. Create another nanodrid snapshot and see how the file is formated. Then just apply it to the backup you wish to restore.
i "cd" to folder where is images, run "md5sum *img > nandroid.md5" and everything seems fine now, thanks for help

Rooting Xolo Q700S after beta 4.4.2 update

So the brilliant gentlemen at xolo have graciously provided us with a spectacular (albeit slightly buggy) update to android 4.4.2 kitkat for our xolo Q700S.
While this has a lot of advantages it lacks a clean and simple rooting method like framaroot or towelroot.
However, there is a slightly complex rooting method available to root our Q700S.
Our brothers with the Q1010i rooted their 4.4.2 devices with a method mentioned here
I just used the method given there and adapted it for our device. If any credit need be given they are owed to the original devs for porting and testing.
So lets get rooting!
1) Download Smartphone drivers for MTK devices from link given here ,unzip and.
- click install.bat
- if that doesn't work : run device management (run> devmgmt.msc). Turn off phone and plug in. Find MT65xx preloader. Update drivers. Browse local harddrive for drivers. Navigate to folder where you unzipped the drivers /SmartPhoneDriver/x86 or x64/infs. That should install drivers.
2) Download SP flashtool for windows from link given here.
3) Download CTR recovery for Q700s ported by tarun from this link
-best if you rename it to recovery.img
4)Download Scatter File for our device. (if it throws an error download scatter file from the attachments)
5) Download SuperSU by chainfire.
- rename to update.zip
- copy to root of sdcard.
Now ensure that you have a proper usb cable, wits, a strong nerve and basic knowledge of how to unbrick a phone if something goes wrong.
All boxes checked? Lets proceed.
>Run SP Flashtool
>Click Scatter-loading
>Select the .txt scatter file
>in the now visible options check only RECOVERY and double click the long empty green bar in the same row. Load recovery.img
>click DOWNLOAD on the top
>turn off phone and connect to PC.
>wait for bar on the bottom to go from red to yellow and then pop-up with download OK.
>now press vol+ and power and boot to recovery
>install.zip from sdcard
>let SuperSu install.
>reboot device (if it shows warning that may lose root access press no)
let android boot up!
if you did everything right then you have a rooted android 4.4.2 xolo q700S on your hands.
have fun!

Looking for kernel patch
It is indeed a great post and that'll gonna be helping people but I have a issue with Kernel or to say the root of this device, I have been using link2SD with JB with my sd card having a ext2 format but since I have moved to KK, it seem to have bugging me out all the way,
I can mount my sd card with ext4 but its useless and doesnt let me move my apps to 2nd partion as internal, eventhough I can use ext3 format which ends up with an error at mounting with unsupported transport end point, the reason made me to look for a kernel patch, I believe you'll try this and will be able to resolve for following readers and well thank you for this one.
Looking for a kernel that adds ext2 support.
Use Latest version of link2sd

2.Unzip it, goto META-INF/com/google/android and replace the 'updater-script' with the one attached.
3. Now zip it back, and flash it with cwm, carliv etc...
4.To root it, download & flash SuperSu via cwm (here: http://goo.gl/OSKQRQ)

To install a custom ROM(OS) on your HTC DESIRE 820

To install a custom ROM on your HTC DESIRE 820, here’s a brief tutorial guide:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 1. You will need to first download the custom ROM you want to install. These ROMs come in a “zip” file format (so DO NOT UNZIP them) and usually 1 large file around 200MB to 1GB. Some ROMs may require you to install multiple files.
You can download these zip files straight to your phone or use your computer to download (as downloading on your computer may be more stable/effective/faster) then copy over to your phone’s storage.
Step 1. Once ROM zip files are downloaded/copied to your phone, get into TWRP RECOVERY MODE BY PRESSING volume down+power button together for about 3 seconds to enter bootloader menu.Choose “RECOVERY” using Volume Down key then hit Power button to enter TWRP recovery.
Before installing a ROM, you will want to do a “data wipe/factory reset” by hitting the “Wipe” button. This will erase all your settings, apps, and app data (but not personal photos/videos on your storage). I highly recommend using Titanium Backup app to backup your apps, SMS Backup & Restore app to backup your SMS text messages, and use an online service such as GMail or Facebook to backup your contacts. Most online service providers like GMail or Facebook offer built-in ability to auto backup/restore your contacts.
*Optional – You can try installing a custom ROM without wipe, but this is considered risky and dangerous as sometimes the ROM may not boot. You can make a backup ROM if you are going to try this route so you can restore easily. Also, this can keep your settings, apps, and app data without restoring them.
Step 2. Once wipe is done (or you have decided not to wipe but have backup ROM), simply use the “Install” option in main menu and find the ROM zip file you need to install. If there’s multiple files, simple install them one by one until you are done.
Step 3. Once done installing custom ROM, reboot and cross your fingers your phone will boot. If your phone boots within 5-10 minutes you should be good to go. If not, you can try re-installing ROM, especially if you did not wipe, try re-installing after wiping.
To copy ROM file into SD card:
-------------------------------------
Boot TWRP, then select “Mount”, then select only “Data” and connect your HTC DESIRE 820 to your computer with usb debugging enabled.
Then download fastboot.zip and unzip, you probably will find a new directory called fastboot under your Downloads directory.
Copy the ROM you want to install to the fastboot folder.
Open a command prompt then type:
cd Downloads\fastboot
adb push ROM.zip /sdcard/.
Replace ROM.zip with the ROM filename you copied earlier to fastboot folder.
This will copy your ROM to the internal storage so once it’s done, just use TWRP to install ROM.
To backup the ROM after installing:
----------------------------------------------
Backing up a ROM will backup everything on your phone including your settings, apps, app data, kernel, and the whole ROM. It will not backup your personal photos or videos stored in your internal storage but it will backup everything else.
This can be handy later down the road your HTC DESIRE 820 malfunctions. For example, if your phone stops booting for some reason (due to bad custom ROMs or apps), you can easily restore your phone to a previous state by restoring your ROM.
If you “still” haven’t made a backup ROM, I highly suggest you to follow this tutorial to make a backup ROM.
Step 1. Make sure “Fast boot” is checked OFF under Settings->Power.
Step 2. Power off your HTC DESIRE 820. Then hold down Volume Down and Power buttons together for about 3 seconds to enter bootloader menu.
Step 3. Choose “RECOVERY” using Volume Down key then hit Power button to enter TWRP recovery.
Step 4. Once inside TWRP recovery, you can easily choose “Backup” or “Restore” to backup or restore ROM, it’s that simple.
Step 5. If you are backing up ROM, make sure “Boot”, “Data”, and “System” are checked and swipe to start backup. Backup process should take about 5-10 minutes or longer depending on how many apps you’ve installed on your phone.
Backups are usually large between 1-5GB depending on how many apps you’ve installed. They are stored in your internal storage under TWRP/BACKUP directory. You can easily save space by moving these files to your computer and move them back to the same location when you need to restore your phone.
Step 6. When restoring ROM, you will find your backups organized by folders. You can name your folders while backing up otherwise they will be stored with the timestamp of the time you backed them up.
Download ROM file from HTC deire 820 android development forum they given your orginal ROM for installing.

Be carefull of links which state there is 5.0 available for our device
drsobhan -
Please refrain from using or downloading ROM or any other files from other websites. The website you listed did not look genuine.
- HTC should provide us the with an update and source code will be available
- Cynaogen or other third party would provide us with an update
- XDA senior developers can provide link
One CM launches the rom there could be other providers like MIUI etc... but till the time please refrain from such websites

Custom Recovery
Please have a read through the information in this link : http://www.howtogeek.com/193055/what-is-a-custom-recovery-on-android-and-why-would-i-want-one/
Flashing a custom recovery on the L2 is a simple process.
Things Required for this process:
Rooted Phone - (Please see the post on Rooting)
Mobile Uncle Tools APK
Recovery Image
First you have to allow the phone to install apps that dont come from Google Play Store. To do so,follow the guide :
1.Settings Menu
2.Security
3.Enable(tick) Unknown sources
4.Untick Verify apps
You can always reset these back to how you found them when you are done.
Download Mobile Uncle Tools
Mega Link: http://goo.gl/IkyVDo
or
MediaFire Link : http://goo.gl/c5q6Jh
Copy APK file to your SD card, use your file manager to install it.
Run Mobile uncle tools, allow root permissions when menu pops up.
You can close the app for now.Next thing we need is the actual recovery file itself.I've attached the recovery i find works best
Carliv Touch Recovery v2.2 - MTK CWM-based v 6.0.4.4
Download Recovery.img file

or
MediaFire Link :http://goo.gl/U1D2Zu

Once the file has downloaded, copy to the root of your SD Card.
Open Mobile Uncle Tools and Select "Recovery Update".
Be sure to Select the downloaded recovery image, not anything else.
Select the file and proceed with installation.Mobile uncle tools will then prompt you to reboot into recovery if the update was successful.Select Yes and the phone will reboot into the new recovery menu

Update
Resize Apps Partition
WARNING! This can BRICK your phone if done incorrectly.
PLEASE FOLLOW ALL STEPS CORRECTLY.
Please make a backup of all your important stuff.
Make a backup in the recovery.Make 100% sure the backup completes without any errors
Reboot into recovery mode (Hold the Up button and press power button to turn device on)
1.Select Backup and Restore
2.Select Backup and Confirm(Proceed)
Once the backup is complete, the backup is located in "clockworkmod" folder on SD Card
You have to factory reset device,so be prepared to reinstall apps/games (You are going to lose data)
If you are fine with all of the above,The following mod increases the App Partition size from 1GB to 2GB.It rewrites the Internal Storage to 513MB(Used for videos/pictures,which is fine since we use our Micro SD cards for that)
If you are happy with all of the above, you can proceed with the next step :
Firstly,Download all files required and copy to SD Card
2 GB for apps_Jellybean_4.zip (232.63 KB)
Mega Link - http://goo.gl/ao3NFO
or
Media Fire Link - http://goo.gl/3j9RWm
AND
MTK_Nvram_Tool.zip (2.9MB)
Mega Link - http://goo.gl/Z2Chpx
or
Media Fire Link - http://goo.gl/sjah8X
Once on SD Card, reboot into recovery mode (Hold the Up button and press power button to turn device on)
1.Select "Install Zip"
2.Select "Choose zip Sdcard"
3.Choose "MTK_Nvram_Tool.zip"
4.Select "Yes - Install MTK_Nvram_Tool.zip"
5.Click Next
6.Select "I Agree with this Terms and Conditions" and click Next
7.Click Next again
9.Choose 'Nvram Backup"
Once its done it should say "Backup Completed"
Under that it should say "Nvram Backup Successfully Completed"
It give the location for that backup, always keep that file (Copy to the PC Later)
10.Click OK
11.Click Exit
12.Click Yes
Now you are back at the install update from zip file screen.
13.Select "Install Zip"
14.Select "Choose zip Sdcard"
15.Choose "2 GB for apps_Jellybean_4.zip"
16.Select "Yes - Install 2 GB for apps_Jellybean_4.zip"
17.Go back to main menu
18.Choose Wipe menu
19.Choose Wipe Data (Factory Reset) -THIS WILL ERASE YOUR DATA
20.Wipe Cache
21.Wipe Dalvik Cache
22.Go back to main menu and reboot phone
The phone should reboot. If you get a message saying you have to format phone storage, click yes to format.
Go to Settings,Storage and See Total space is now 1.97GB
If the phone wont boot, power down, then hold up key and turn on to get into recovery mode.
1.Select Backup and Restore
2.Select Restore and Confirm(Proceed)
Restore the backup you made earlier.
This should let the system load when you reboot again, even if it asks you to format the phone again.
Copy NVRAM Backup to PC for safe keeping.
If you want to return to original/stock
Follow the same procedure as above but use the following file instead of the 2GB File
Stock Partition_Jellybean_4.zip (232.63KB)

Okay, you have to download the firmware version for your country, and have custom recovery installed on the phone.
So if you in UK,download the rom for your phone from UK provider.(doesnt matter if its JB or KK)
http://www.ztedevices.com/support/index.html
Once you have the rom,Use winRAR to do the following:
1.open the rom from your country in winrar so you can see the contents.
2.Open system folder (dont extract, just navigate into the folders in winrar)
3.Open "etc" folder
4.Open Firmware folder
5.Select "modem_1_wg_n.img" and extract it(i just drag and drop on desktop)
6.Open the Kitkat firmware you've downloaded using winRAR
7.Open System folder
8.Open "etc" folder
9.Open Firmware folder
10. Copy the "modem_1_wg_n.img" into that location(drag and drop from desktop)
11.winRAR asks if you want to :Add/Replace file/s? Select Yes or OK to allow it to
12.copy entire firmware to phone and reflash it on the phone from the SD card
I dont know if you can just replace the modem file after having loaded the firmware.I didnt try or test it.it may or may not work.
I am working on Custom Firmware for this phone though.
latest achievement was i managed to get the phone to see the SD card as phone storage thanks to various xda guides.this will be built in
FIrmware should be ready in a few days after testing.if anybody is interested in trying it out,let me know
problem solved...
Thank you sir...problem solved...it's really hard to be a noob...have to understand a lot of things now....I'm willing to try your firmware on my phone...upload it when done...keep up the good work...sorry for my english...
Post has been updated
I need to talk to you.... Go read my PM
installation is always aborted.. PLEASE HELP

Thanks
The thread is so useful... Keep up the good work, I don't have patience to try the new ROM!
Is there any chance for kernel supporting overclocking and undervoltage, also with more Gvernor and I/O Sheduler options?
Also Would be gorgeous if there's tap screen to wake option, this would need custom kernel too...
I'm now using DeviRSilva's kernel, which is doing great! Man, don't be afraid to relese it and continue tweaks
Still I'm a noob and maybe half of theese wishes are impossible, but would be so cool if they're possible to develop!
PD: I saw a site promoting Lollipop ROM for our L2 is that real?
PD2: Sorry for my awful English and probably stupid requests and questions...
helpppp
I have probelm, phone do not show sim card, on official site there is no serbia rom please how to fix it?
