15 mins to install Kindle to your Nook glowlight plus - Nook Touch General

I spent the whole night googling how to turn my birthday gift Nook into a Kindle, I owe most credit to this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-touch/general/nook-glowlight-plus-t3230323
Here is what you need:
1. Root, just download Kingo from https://www.kingoapp.com/, with just one click your Nook will be rooted.
2. Download apk you want to install from the web, e.g. I found kindle from here
http://pluto.androidapksfree.com/python/com.amazon.kindle_v4.19.0.131-1145831555_Android-4.1.apk
3. I am a Chinese user and I used 360 assistant (http://zhushou.360.cn/) to install apk from PC. However, you will still only see the the native Nook app. To show other apps you installed, you need a launcher app, I picked Nova launcher. Bingo! After Nova installed, if you pressed home button, you will see the normal Android desktop, from there you will see your kindle App.

Kindle Reader from outside the Kindle UI?

Has anyone figured out why or better yet figured out a work around for why the Kindle software won't start unless you are in the stock UI? I can't get it to open from within GoLauncher at all. Sure I can just go back to the stock UI and read my books and magazines, but it would be nice to get this from inside GoLaunder or any of the other launchers.
-Eric
That's weird, mine launches from Go Launcher just fine. So does my Amazon Video. No idea why though.
For me it only launches in Go Launcher if I have a book already open in the Stock Kindle UI.
For the time being I have a shortcut on the desktop to the amazon launcher. Just 1 extra step, seems to work. And when I hit home, right back to ADW EX homescreen.

I was getting ready to post this same question, I've tried 4 or 5 other ereaders and none work under the GO launcher.. ???
I use ADW EX. I have a shortcut for Amazon launcher on the desktop.
I tap it, and amazon pops up as if you hit the home button on stock.
I go to books, app store for daily free app, etc. All is good.
I hit home button, i go back to ADW EX desktop.
Yep, I just use the icons in the launcher or desktop shortcut, dock shortcut etc.. All Amazon app icons work fine for me either in Go or ADW. No issues.
Kindle apps not working after I rooted and installed Android market on my Kindle Fire
Hey guys, Please help with my problems:
1. I have rooted and installed Android market on my KF successfully. So far, can download and install any apps from the market and run well.
(when stalling the Market, and stuck with vending.apk mounting (it always said"mount failed", I use Root Explorer instead of File Explore v.2.17.1, then it is ok)
2. After having the market done, I wrongly installed another KINDLE APP from the market into my Fire without thinking that this already pre-installed in KF no matter how we root it. However, when i run this, Kindle app still run well but I only can see the eBook that on my Cloud with Amazon but not all my ebooks that i copied in KF before.
I then tried copying all these ebooks to "/sdcard/kindle" like instruction of others, but my ebooks still cannot be shown on Kindle Apps
3. When I went to bed yesterday, I shut my KF down. This morning, when woke up, I turned it on, then I saw status "Installing the Updates....." automatically at start-up stage. When getting into the launcher (I used GO LAUNCHER EXPLORER V.2.7.0), tap into the Kindle Apps icons, nothing appear. It's freeze now.
4. I cannot not remove or uninstall the Kindle Apps (probably because it was pre-installed by Amazon in KF)
Please help.

[Q] Rooted with Go Launcher, but can't read books

Rooted with Go Launcher, but can't read books. The Amazon Kindle application opens, but doesn't find anything on the device. There are books on the device.
If I switch back to the stock launcher, my books are there fine, and I can read them.
Anyone have this issue? Clearly a big issue if you rooted but still want to use it primarily as a book reader.
When you want to read your books, click on the old launcher and use it to read the book. Not a real problem. Being rooted is not an issue reading books, just Amazon Prime which you can fix with OTA Rootkeeper.
Why do you need OTA rootkeeper if you have permanent root?
Because Amazon Videos (Prime) doesn't work with root. You have to un-root to use it.
Anyone know if there is a way to access the stock bookstore when rooted? I'd like to be able to access the lending library but the store link in the stock launcher takes me to the web store and not the fire version. I am rooted but have temp unrooted using ota rootkeeper. Prime video is working.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

the way I did it was I downloaded the amazon kindle app from the google market. then I mounted my kindle as a disk drive in my pc and copy pasted the book files to the folder the app has for books. now all my books are there when I open the app
Yikes, it's worse than I thought. I assumed it was only in Go Launcher that there were no books.
But I switch back to the Amazon launcher, go into the book tab, or document tab, and none of the books I downloaded are there.
Music files are there and play with the music player.
Pictures are there and play with the gallery
Videos are there, and play in the video player
All the new applications I installed rooted in Go Launcher are there and work
but...the four books are there in the correct folder (books), I can see them when it's connected as a Windows drive, but they don't show up in the launcher under the Books or any other tab.
My wife will kill me. She wanted this primarily as a book reader.
Thanks in advance.
I just use the Amazon Kindle app from the Market to read books using Go Launcher for Tablets.
That didn't work for me either. When I click "On Device", it doesn't show me any of the four books.
Just so there is no confusion, I read these four book files (well, tested them) before starting the rooting procedure, so I know that the formats are OK etc.
This is really weird. My Kindle is rooted and I have no issues with Kindle books. All of my books are still there. So there were books on the device but after you rooted they are all gone?

Did you place them in the Kindle folder?
Edit: I just copied a book that I had on my Galaxy Nexus in the Kindle folder to the Kindle folder on my Fire and it showed up in the Kindle app.
The books are not physically gone, the files are all there, but they can't be seen with the stock launcher or Go Launcher.

Try reinstalling the Kindle app from the Market or clear the app data for the one you have installed.
This happens if you downloaded the Amazon Kindle App from the Android Market.
When you download the Android Market version it overwrites the stock version without saving your data.
The fix for this is simple.
[*] Go to Settings-->More-->Applications-->All Applications-->Amazon Kindle
[*] Click "Clear Data" and "Uninstall Updates"
If you did it correctly then it should've reverted back to the stock version(v4.1.2.12)
*But if that does not work, here the original stock version .apk:
LINK: http://db.tt/49Efe35z
Now you will have the stock version, but you will not see any books.
Don't worry though, because all books you purchase from Amazon are linked to your account.
*You need to use your PC for these next few steps!
[*] Log in to your Amazon Account and go to Your Digital Items-->Your Kindle Orders
Now you should see a list of books you have purchased for your Kindle Fire.
[*] Click on "Actions" and choose "Deliver to my Kindle" OR "Download and Transfer via USB"
IF YOU CHOSE: "Deliver to my Kindle"
[*] Go to SETTINGS-->SYNC and you should see your book appear.
IF YOU CHOSE: "Download and Transfer via USB"
[*] Download your book to your PC.
[*] After downloading, use your USB cable to connect your computer and Kindle Fire. Your Kindle Fire will appear as a drive on your computer.
[*] Copy your downloaded file from your computer to your Kindle Fire's documents folder.
IF YOU CANNOT CONNECT YOUR KINDLE FIRE TO YOUR PC FOR WHATEVER REASON:
[*] Download your book to your PC.
[*] Upload the book to Dropbox or the cloud storage service of your choice(eg. Box, SugarSync, etc.)
[*] Now go to your Kindle Fire and download the book.
[*] Move the downloaded book to the "Documents" section of your Kindle Fire.
Hope this helps!
Thanks

For anyone looking for a solution, I found it, at least I can now see and read all my books on the stock launcher.
All I did was uninstall the Amazon Kindle application, and somehow, that allowed me to see books from the Amazon default launcher.
I don't know if I can try installing again and if that will let me read both in the Go Launcher and Amazon Launcher. I will try and let you know.
Perfect. That completely fixed my problem as well. Thanks!

ur making it so much more difficult
if ur running just android and not cm7
just install home launcher and switch back and fourth between go launcher and amazon original book os

Nook Tablet install apps without root alternative

I had to go back to 1.4.0 via the adam outler howto via acclaim_update.zip for "other reasons"
Once I did this, it occurred to me to just setup a web server and download all the apks from that.
So on my normal htc incredible, I downloaded and installed 3 angry bird apps and the nook color app manager.
I then used app sender to mail them to myself
I then put them on a website and went to them the same way you do to get tgps_launcher.
Clicked on the download for the nook color app manager, added a home shortcut to the app manager. Now when I want to run angry birds I just go to them via the app manager that's pinned to the home screen.
It seems you can't have multiple shortcuts on home screen if the name is the same. I don't know how to rename the 3 angry birds yet.
Is there any reason people don't do this?
why bother with rooting unless you're actually after root power for some other reason?

[Q] March 24th update messed up my Fire

After today's update, I no longer have any of my books, can't view the cloud books either. The music section is no longer there, and I have a stupid music button scrolling my last song played when I hit the setting at the top. All of my favorite apps are gone and Amazon tech has no idea why, they are wanting me to do a factory reset, but we spent so long trying to fix it that they have to call me back when the battery if over 40%. Anyone else have a problem with this update?
What update are you referring to? There hasn't been an update past version 6.2.2.
Yes, there was today. http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle/...Forum=Fx1D7SY3BVSESG&cdThread=Tx1SYOUQZI1SLRR
It updated the reader and mp3 player and I don't knwo what else, but it also installs Google Play.

u sure about that? i don't see that listed anywhere...
I found out what the problem was, as well as the updates were coming from Google's Play!
I had the same problem. Only way to get my books back was to do a TWRP backup that was a month old.
Same here. Had to recover from an old backup using TWRP.
After all of the BS, I found it best to turn off background sync and make sure the Play is not allowed to update automatically.
Looks like it will be an active day in this forum after the Amazon KF update has tweaked rooted devices.
i'm doing following (on stock rom):
- no automatic updates (only manually)
- don't update amazon software from google play (the kf has special versions which are integrated with the stock launcher - google play is'nt aware of)
- atm this is amazon mp3 and the kindle app
if you accidentially updated one of it simply go to settings - applications and select amazon mp3 or kindle - select uninstall updates - no need to restore a backup
hope this helps ...
I too noticed that all of my books disappeared today.
I still run the stock 6.2.2 ROM, rooted, with Market (google services apps), GO and ADW launchers installed for a more android-like experience. I have my home button set to run GO launcher, and I access the original Kindle Fire UI via a shortcut to "Launcher"
After fighting with this problem of my books all being gone for about an hour, I found that:
1. the Market app is now Play Store, so it looks like that has updated itself.
2. Google's Play Store has installed "Amazon Kindle" app which seems to conflict with the native Kindle software (the app drawer used to have the app "Launcher" as the only app to get back into the stock looking UI that incorporated the reader and book list, but now there is also the app "Amazon Kindle" in the app drawer as well that allows access to books, not the stock UI though).
3. re-registering the device via the Amazon Kindle app seems to allow me access to my books, through the Amazon Kindle app, while the native UI/reader (called "Launcher", with the shelves) does not properly download/show my books.
4. Instead of short-cutting to the "Launcher" app, which is the original kindle fire UI, I set my shortcut to the "Amazon Kindle" app, which seems to work fine.
I only now realize that others are having the same problem I've had, as I read this thread. I still wonder exactly what has been updated -- is this trouble caused by Play Store or Amazon or both?
I for one will not miss running the stock UI, "Launcher", because I thought it was ugly, and now that I can't use it to access my books, it is also useless to me. I suppose that for those who do like it as a launcher, you could add the new GooglePlay-added app Amazon Kindle, to your list of apps in the native launcher, if you really like it and want to continue using it.
After all of this, I am seriously considering flashing a new ROM, which leads me to a few questions: If I run CM7, can I completely erase the kindle ROM from hogging up a portion of ROM space? More importantly, will I lose the ability to take full advantage of my Amazon Prime account I pay for, such as watching Amazon Prime videos?
I actually ran into this problem on Thursday. At first, I thought it was because I played with SuperUser and tried to install Busybox. I ended up restoring a backup that I had from when I first rooted my Fire (which was only a couple of weeks ago). Then when reinstalling everything that I had done in the meantime, it happened again. So another restore. I then started reinstalling things one by one and came upon the problem being the Kindle app. I deleted the update and things seem to be right now.
So maybe just deleting the update is enough to get things back to normal?

Autostart apps on firetv boot - without root or llama

Hello,
I got a fire tv stick recently and quickly installed Kodi via adbFire, but like everyone else was looking for an easier way to access it.
I then found FiredTVLauncher, which was very nice, but I did not have an easy way to autostart that.
I found an app that allows to set one or more apps to start on boot, and it works just fine on fire tv, its called "AutoStart - No root". I installed it via aptoide and was able to use the regular firetv controller to set it up. I did not have to root or use llama, and it just works. I have it setup to start firedtv, but I suppose it could start kodi or anything else. I have rebooted the stick several times, and a few seconds after the regular amazon launcher is shown the firedtv launcher kicks in!
This is the app ""AutoStart - No root" (com.autostart), can't post urls yet but its in playstore and aptoide and others.
Good luck!
