Should I sell the LG g2? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Should I sell the lg g2 and get mi4C which is currently on discount for 173$.
I think it is a better phone and I also like miui a lot. I like the g2, but it is only 9 months old from the date I bought it and I know that a lot of people have yellow spots on the sreen after 1 year use.
I don't know if I should change with the mi4c. I like the g2. I am currently on cr droid android m and it is very fast.

Why are you thinking of that ? It is still a good phone . Development is still in motion .

Because the mi4 is a newer and better device with software that I like better

The sore point of the G2 is the slow, buggy stock ROM. One way to work around it is to install an AOSP based ROM, but you lose the stock camera and the ability to run certain banking and video streaming apps (because they seem to check for AOSP ROMs). The second options is perhaps to get a stripped down G2 lollipop ROM (only for d800). But if neither of these works out, I'd say sell it and get something else.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Most(/all) aosp roms are garbage - laggy, lower raw performance, no camera, poor stability, etc. They're experimental roms for enthusiasts to test, not like stock roms that are fast and stable which are meant to be used everyday. For some reason people delude themselves into thinking aosp is somehow better...
Op, if you like miui and want to spend the extra $ for the mi4c, then you should do it. It seems to be a much better phone.

I highly disagree with this post. I am not speaking for "most" AOSP ROMs. Just look at the well established ones: Cyanogenmod, BlissPOP, etc (I honestly think this is it, as far as good AOSP ROMS go). I had pretty much zero issues with Cyanogenmod ROMs on devices I have used them on. Of course, if you run the bleeding edge CM13 will have more bugs than the more stable and well established CM12.1. Right now I am running the last LG2-compatible official OmniROM, which is based on KitKat, on my G2 and this ROM was basically a revelation. It's incredibly, blazingly fast. So fast, that I think if I took away two cores and halved the clock speed of the remaining cores, there would still be no difference in speed or responsiveness, and it still would run fast. The stock 5.0.2 ROM on the other hand, seriously feels like its running on its last legs, specially if you multitask a lot. The lag can be real and very noticeable.
As for the camera, the advantages of the stock LG camera are highly exaggerated. It can take forever to focus, and often fails to focus, specially shooting videos. I downloaded every free camera app I could find on the play store onto the OmniROM install, and pretty much everyone of them is more than passable. Right now I am using Google camera, but HD Camera seems pretty satisfactory too (sans the ads in the free version). Overall, I'd say the LG camera is better, but it's not that much significantly better or more important to prevent me from using other ROMs.

I used reconstruction remix, blisspop, vanir and currently using cr droid android M. Even with android M I have no issues. Have been using it for about a month. Had one crash or two on one app. That is all. I really like it and it is very fast.
I like everything about this phone expect that you can't put tempered glass screen protector, because it doesn't fit good.
The mi4C is on a really good price atm for 170$. I like miui, new features, usb - c, sunlight display, better SOC, tempered glass will stick good, new device(Released 2015 September). The g2 is almost 3 years old. That is the thing that makes me wanna sell it. It is just old and I might get a yellow spot on the screen, because a lot of people have one.
The mi4C is really a better phone, but I am still not sure if I should do it, because I still like the g2, but on the other hand the mi4c is on a really good deal atm

For the VZW variant of the G2?
The reason I ask, is that it will take awhile for the custom ROMs to work as well as the stock one. To be honest, vanilla android is kinda boring and outdated looking. It doesn't have a lot of polish, and a lot of the manufacturers add ons don't work at all, or properly. Then you have stability issues, etc... Very few custom ROMs work as well as stock in my experience.
But what about an optimized kernel? Something that leaves the phone functioning 100% as it was intended to, but maybe gets rid of lag or adds performance?
Thoughts?

But seriously, I have rooted and ROM'd every phone I have had going back to the iPhone 3.. the Droid X... the THunderbolt, Rezound, RazR, EVO 4G, RazR HD, and now the G2.
And on every phone except for the Droid X, the custom ROM's never ran as well as stock. I know, sacrilege, right? But at the end of the day, just being able to brag that "I have a ROM" to my nerd friends(of which I am one), wasn't enough of a benefit to have to give up features, have glitches, workarounds, reboots, etc...
I still run them on my N7, because those seem to work fine and do add stuff above and beyond what Android comes with. But vanilla android is ugly. I like some of the stuff my phone comes with, like virtual voicemail. I like the Quick Remote app, and other stuff that looks nice and works well.
The DroidX ran like crap stock, reboots all the time, and only when I put CM on it did it run properly, but that was the exception...
I removed the bloat from my stock phone, but if there was a great kernel that would make it even smoother, or improve battery life even more but leave everything else working, that would be ideal IMHO.
I don't want to give up features that my phone came with, and custom ROMs are always a compromise...

That's odd.... I've ROMed all my devices (since Donut) as well and never had any stability issues. Bad luck for you.

I agree with you on the stock vs. AOSP issue. It really depends on the phone though. On the HTC Rezound, there was so much work done just to get all the features of CM working that it never really panned out, and I just used (and loved) a Sense based highly-customized rom. It performed better, plain and simple. But on other phones AOSP is a lot faster than any stock rom, since it is so lightweight.
For this phone, it looks like I will be AOSP all the way from here on out! The roms out already are amazing. Once the very few issues get solved, and custom kernels come out, this will be the fastest AOSP phone out there no doubt. Add to that the knock-on, and it has a leg up on the competition. Yep, this phone will rock for years to come.

I agree on some of that. But when you take a phone and slap AOSP on it, how is it any different than any other phone at that point? It might have more power under the hood, but other than that, it reduces the phone to what every other phone running AOSP is. Might as well be an iPhone at that point.
There are some good ROMs out there, no doubt. And as a phone gets to the end of life they can breath new life into a device. My problem with the RazR HD was that by the time they cracked the bootloader, most Devs had moved on to newer devices.
Maybe if I see one worth switching to my opinion will change... But when I see a new thread and read it and I see that it has spontaneous reboots, or knock on doesn't work, or the camera is weird, or an app that is important to me doesn't work, then I have to ask myself, what's the benefit? To go from 33k to 34k in Antutu? haha

I am a technology guy, have been since I was 10. It doesn't matter what other people have, I just care about the performance and features of the devices I have. I just can't understand your viewpoint here.
Your thought on benchmarks is not true at all. AOSP roms often benchmark worse than stock roms. That is indeed the case for this phone. But benchmarks don't tell the whole story, and ANDROID benchmarks are a mess. But somehow even while benchmarking slower, the AOSP roms are faster at pretty much every task in Android.
Also, to a lot of people (including me) bare-bones AOSP has every feature needed. Anything else can be downloaded from the market.

LG G2 questions of an GS3 guy

I currently have an I9300 (A.K.A Galaxy S3) and thinking about upgrade to G2. I'm not looking for a advice on this thread but some info. Been on my GS3 since 1,5 years now and I rather know all the pros and cons of my device.
One of them is our Exynos chip that literally kills the device when using AOSP, second one is broken HW composer due the lack of closed source stuff of Samsung. Last but not least is the camera quality, vastly better on stock Touchwiz roms.
Knowing this stuff I have the following questions regarding G2;
1.- G2 uses Snapdragon, so on paper AOSP Roms should work fine (or not as bad as it is on Exynos). Is this really true? How does perform CM11 right now on the G2? I'm planning to stick always with CM or AOSP becouse can't stand stock LG skinned Android. On my S3 I am currently rolling CM11 and it is pretty OK due the great devs we have there. But you guys know, we always want something better
2.- Been reading a lot about the camera on the G2 and all threads say the same, camera quality on Stock is much better than AOSP. The question is; Is this difference big as on the GS3?
I am running away from the abusive closed source policy of Samsung and limited updates (I know is the same with LG but at least you guys don't have an Exynos chip to deal with :silly
Will I be able reach the full of G2 capacity staying at AOSP or it is going to be the same as it happens with my S3?. Am I going to be cursed to stay at stock Android until LG stop supporting the device? Will I be at home with a G2 or should look for a fugly Nexus 5 instead?
Posting this thing on General becouse it could help guys with the same doubts as I do. Hope you don't mind this big wall text.

Before G2 I had S3 and Note2 and since both of them have same exynos and camera they were pretty similar in AOSP roms.
With S3 I used AOSP 80% of time (cm11 temasek). On note2 I used lame touchwiz because of spen.
Anyway after switching to G2 I flashed AOSP same day I got it (rooting doesn't void warranty in EU). I got G2 in last december and at that time AOSP was still quite buggy. But now AOSP is nearly as stable as stock.
Regarding your questions:
1. As I said AOSP now is fine, but look for rom that uses kitkat kernel source. In my opinion Mahdi ROM is best for AOSP. CM still uses old jellybean kernel sources that has bugs, so I avoid using it. I have been using Mahdi most of the time and there were only few bugs that were fixed quite fast. I agree that stock LG ui looks awful, but with xposed you can make it look nearly like AOSP (quicksettings and stuff). But you should definitely take a look at G3 roms, they are much better looking.
2. Regarding camera quality yes on AOSP it is a little worse, but in my opinion not as big difference from stock as it was on S3. There are ported stock camera app for AOSP if you want to check that out.
When I switched to G2 I was also looking at Nexus 5 since I am kinda flashoholic. But I am really happy that I got G2 not Nexus5. After I switched from S3 to N2 I got used to great battery of it and G2 has even better battery life than Note2. Plus thoose buttons on back are just the way they should be on all phones.

My G2 is officially ordered. Hope I'll be joining this part of XDA really soon and say good bye my old fellows I9300 users. Im sure here I'll feel at home :fingers-crossed:.
Have a little couple of questions, they are a little specific so couldn't find precise info. Hope you guys can direct me a little.
1.- You surely know that the most famous Kernel on the i9300 is Boeffla, it has own app to control voltages, sound control, overclock, etc. What is the G2 counter part? (I know Kernels are subjective but want to know where to start )
2.- What are the most used OC arround here for the CPU? (On the i9300 was 1.6Ghz)
I'm going to be wondering arround here a lot, so I hope don't get bashed for these questions, they are my base when starting to use a new device. (Yesterday spent 2 hours browsing ROM's and other threads, haha)

1. Well for stock roms there is dorimanx kernel. It has faux sound, overclock, undervolt, etc.
2. With dorimanx you can overclock up to max 2.8 GHz.

s3's camera doesnt even come close to the cam on the g2 ! the quality is unbelievable. just note that night shots do get distorted when its very very dark ! but that happens on all phone cameras so its fine
oh and also cm11 rom doesnt support UHD and 120 FPS slowmo addons i bought this cus of the camera features n battery backup. i cant let it just go

Where did you hear that rooting doesn't void warranty on Europe?
Are you completely 100% sure?
Cause I'm very interested in knowing if this is true.
Only rooting or also installing roms? Installing roms and custom recoveries doesn't void the warranty?

My G2 is awesome. I keep it running stock ROM because I love what LG has done. If you've never tried it before, give it a chance before moving to CM 11. I have Nova installed and using that instead of LG launcher but other than that I really do enjoy all the features that come from LG =).
I compared my phone to a Nexus 5 side by side and it was pretty much the same speed to open apps (Except Viber, it was faster on N5, no idea why..). It's a very smooth phone, even when running LG UI .
My brother has the S3 and it's a good smooth phone but my G2 is an overall better phone.
You won't regret upgrading to it. Just make sure you get one without a touchscreen bug. I was lucky when I bought mine from someone else, it didn't have the touchscreen bug and still does not.
Camera is not the best and I'm considering trading for an S5 or Z2 just for that reason. I would actually go for the Find 7 but a bit too expensive and big. I prefer the camera on the S4 (I had that phone prior to the G2 and I also had the S4 Zoom). The S4 Zoom was the best one with awesome night shots since you can control shutter speed. Sadly we can't control shutter speed on G2 (on Oppo Find 7 we can and K zoom also). Day shots are good on G2 while some shots can really look awesome. It does bokeh effect better than the S4 and looks spectacular for a phone.
Low light shots can be either ok or bad. Too much over-processing going on and white balance isn't the best. I still love my LG G2 though!
I am using xdabbeb's camera mod, by the way, which I suggest you do also if you get the phone.

Bloody G3 - I need to rant

I know this is going to sound very much like a first world problem, but this phone is frustratingly ****. It is easily the buggiest, slowest, most laggy phone I have ever had.
I have tried just about all the LG based ROMS, only to find that each one, although not buggy, are all laggy. The lag is so bad that it gives my old S2 on Gingerbread a run for its money. At least with Samsung phones, you could get rid of the lag by using a AOSP ROM and it would still be functional.
To solve the frustrating lag issue, I have installed a CM based ROM. At first I was delighted. The lag was gone. The phone was now comparable to my super fast Nexus 5. But after a few hours, I noticed the same bugs that every other CM based ROM user has. Today, I had to restart the phone six times FFS! It is a little more stable on 777 Kernel, but the same issues still persist.
Has anyone achieved bliss with this phone? Is there any ROMS, AOSP or LG based, that are fast, (Nexus 5 fast), and bug free?
Don't get me wrong, I love devs and the work they do. Without them, my old Galaxy phones, (S1, S2, S3, S4), would have been poo. My Nexus 5 would have been boring. (Stock android is meh). I just don't understand why this phone seems to have so many issues. Help me understand why it is so hard to develop a fast and reliable ROM for this phone. I know it isn't from a lack of trying. There is heaps of support and devs working on various ROMS in the G3 threads already and all of them are very talented.
Is it hardware based lag or is there something else inherently wrong with the phone?
Thanks for reading and offering any solutions. I don't want to list the ROMS I have tried, as it will seem like I am an ungrateful twat to those devs that worked so hard. Suffice to say, I have tried all the popular CM/AOSP and LG based ROMS.

I switched to note 4 whilst g3 was good I had a better experience with my note 3. So upgraded

I don't want to switch so soon. There has to be a solution. I love the screen and size of this phone. The only other phone I would consider is the droid turbo, but it's so bloody expensive!

Compared to what? Which other android phone have you used? In isolation, this phone is barely acceptable. Then, after you use a nexus, HTC or Sony phone, this phone is comparably slow. Almost unusable.
I can't bring myself to try stock again until someone who has other phones to base their claims on can confirm it is lag free.

Have you tried the usual tricks?
1. Swap out the stock launcher for something like Nova or Apex
2. Switch your keyboard to a 3rd party keyboard
While it does suffer from the random stutter, my phone is generally very zippy and does not lag.

Done all that. On stock based ROMS, stutter and lag is unbearable. My wife, nexus 5 user, even commented on how bad it is. I'm actually embarrassed to use the phone in front of people. I know it isn't a hardware issue, because AOSP ROMS are lag free, but not bug free.

Yeah, the phone is nowhere near as quick as a Nexus. The notification bar is also **** compared to stock Lollipop. There are a few tricks I use to improve performance on a stock rom:
1) Turn off throttling/thermal daemon via the service menu.
2) I use setCPU to set the phone to use the "performance" scheduler whenever the screen is on, locking it at 2.5Ghz.
Still isn't perfect, but it helps substantially. Obviously this is in addition to changing the launcher.
It's just one of those things. As you say, CM12 just isn't stable and worryingly seems to be going backwards, getting less and less stable with each passing nightly. The camera is also completely crap on AOSP roms. Nexus devices are great but the N5 is old and the N6 is too big and expensive. The S5 lags too, and while Note 4 is supposed to be good, but I simply won't believe that Touchwiz lag is gone without seeing it with my own eyes. Even if it has gone, Touchwiz remains the ugliest skin I've ever seen. Sony phones are nice, but they aren't packaged anywhere near as tightly as the G3, which is it's biggest strength: 22mm shorter than an iPhone 6+, with the same size screen. That's impressive. HTC's are just ridiculously large for a given screen size. The 1+1 is old now, and doesn't support all LTE bands used in the UK.
There is no perfect phone. Whichever you choose, there are compromises to be made. However IMHO the G3 strikes the best compromise available today, at least once running the latest Lollipop build and with the tweaks I mentioned above applied.

Had most 2014 flagships and G3 is deff fav so far, didnt have KK as updated to LP out the box had little lag after ota but common just needed a factory reset and all good since

Just a tip you can use on any android phone, go to settings, developer options, and set all the animations to 0.5x. This drastically reduces the time the animations take, and it gives a very snappy experience. It makes a LOT of difference, trust me.

No lag whatsoever here. Im running Chupachups newest rom with rin kernel. I've previously owned htc one, lg g2, xperia z1 and this phone definitely outperforms them all.

Ive owned the Xperia Z1, HTC One M7, and tbh id rate this better than both, i would like the battery life to be better my Z1 was amazing for that buh im custom stock rom and i dont get lag, everything is as it should be.

Because LL is still unstable and buggy? And so is any rom based on it?..
Stock firmware sucks because of LG's software - it's very badly written. Almost as bad as touchwiz is. (I used SGS3, trust me on that one...)
AOSP/CM based firmwares are better, but they still suffer due do LL newness. Wait till android 5.1, things may become better.
There is also a hardware issue: unbelievably bad heat management. They used 8974ac, but had not made any cooling system. No radiators, no heat spread throughout the case, and it's facing LCD panel - which is a very bad radiator. GG WP, throttling kick in, phone starts to lag, etc etc etc.

I think there may be problem with your unit... Try to send it back to get a replacement or have it serviced.

The case is, some people can't root their phones and most of them will try searching why G3 stock rom is lagging... if I'm one of them and I happen to see this post, I would feel bad and feel stupid at the same time why I spend money buying a crappy phone.
Well anyways, try Crash Rom v2.0. It is a stock based ROM like chupachups. The animation is not as fluid as CM but I won't say that it's lagging. Compared to CM, I have not yet encountered any bugs and mostly the camera is better. If you're interested you can also downgrade the resolution to 1080p, this will enhance your g3, 3d and 2d graphics performance.

Hi im all so on lollipop 5.0 updated out of the box and its all good maybe some lag not much to notice. Still no root method yet for stock lollipop 5.0 and i dont want to downgrade to kk so il have patience and wait for new root method for me g3

Wow, I went from the nexus 5, to the htc m8, to the g3 all in year. My advice, play with this one to get the phone lag gone. This by far is the best. Like a previous person said, turn off animations and change the launcher.

Can't be an issue with the phone, as it is lag free with CM based ROMS.

Already done all that. Animations are turned off, launcher animations are set to lightning fast, CPU throttling is turned off. I've tried all the tricks in the book. Fact is, LG based software is crap, just like Samsung.
So far today, the lock-screen has only frozen on me four times, which is good.
I'm not sure if I'd rather put up with a laggy phone or a buggy phone.

My phone is currently on V20h. Apart from the occasional Home launcher crash, I've not had any lag that I notice of. The last time there was any lag was on V10i. My phone is rooted but is not running any mods.
Prior to this, I've had the Note 3 and Xperia S. Compared to the G3, I would say that the smoothness is at the very least, on par with the Note 3 running on stock.
I've seen people complaining about the G3 being laggy too. Is your phone by any chance the 2 GB RAM version?

My phone is the 2gb version, but I always have at least close to 300mb free. Sometimes I have over 1gb free. Not that it should matter though, as I have read on numerous places that the 3gb version lags too, and that both phones are very close on performance. The extra 1gb of RAM is negligible.
Just flashing Crash ROM now. I think I'm going to regret it though, as I much prefer the look of AOSP anyway.
Ah crap. Just as I flash the ROM, I read that the dev is stopping support for our device. Based on the comments, it looks like a promising ROM.

EDIT: I've made my final decision, I'm not coming back to the G2 probably. A Stable ROM is much needed, especially on a recent version of Android. I'll have to give a bit more and opt for the G2. The feedback I got was amazing, thank you so much everyone!

I am looking forward to buying the LG G2 (again, I had the AT&T one with the bad signal bug - I'm getting the D802 now) and the only thing that is currently holding me back is the Custom ROMs. While right now, the G2 is at a great development state, I don't know how much this will be true in a few years when LG stops making updates for us. AOSP and CM based ROMs will be the only option for an up to date version of Android. The hardware is definitely capable of more than 3 more years of usage with a few optimizations here and there. However, my question is how is the experience on AOSP and CM ROMs compared to stock. How's the battery life? Is the audio worse due to the lack of those special drivers? I've heard the camera is awful, is it really that bad? I love the photos my G2 took and while I'm not someone that takes pictures often, I do like a great Camera for the vacations where I have some time to take photos. I'm especially concerned about all of this as my S2 USCC had an awful ROM development and wouldn't want to risk it all again. Not that Marshmallow wouldn't be fine for another 2 years, especially if we get Cloudy G2 4.0.

AOSP 5.1.1 roms are just as good as stock in terms of everything except for camera quality. Battery life is stellar and all features work flawlessly without a single bug or app crash or anything. Try the latest SlimSaber for d802.

AOSP is awesome. It is super fluid on the G2. I keep trying them out (Slim, RR, CM, DU etc) but there are always a couple showstopping bugs that send me back to stock:
• Random vibrations
• 5.1.1 bug: when screen is off, leave a WiFi zone and reenter the zone - the phone will not reconnect unless screen is unlocked (ie no push messages, whatsapp etc etc)
That's about it though. Camera is good, GPS works, QuickRemote with a bit of fiddling works great. But stock gives the full package still.

In my experience the only advantage of custom roms is customization - which isn't a huge advantage considering how customizable lg's roms already are. As far as stability and battery life, it depends on the rom - some are great, others( a lot) are downright unusable. At least with the stock rom you know that it will be stable with good(not exceptional) battery life. Since you mentioned that you take a lot of pictures, nothing beats stock since the developers that made it have access to proprietary data. If you have the time to mess with multiple roms over several weeks, go for it - you may find the one you're looking for. For me, stock does everything I need and then some so that's what I use.

Ive been using the moto x 2013 for some time now. I was going to get a S4 or G2, I just cant stand how big the new flagships are these days. I finally ended up on buying a oneplus x. Ordered 2/29 and should arrive today 3/2....pretty fast shipping I think!
Im excited to try it out. I do like CM but going to wait for a stable official CM 13. Ive never tried oxygen, any tips or tricks to make it better? Any bugs that I should be aware of?

Enjoy with oxygen os . Few minor things are there but nothing which hampers normal usage. I wouldn't point it out now because then you will specifically look out for those issues. Enjoy it, its a nice experience and with oneplus team working hard on, it will get better .
If you look for customization,mod and seemless experience, we have dedicated, awesome developers who are continuousuly working on Kernels, ROMs and other stuff . I had not thought of this fast development for this phone. Definitely a great feeling.

Personally, I prefer CM13 over Oxygen. It's stable enough for using it as my daily driver. I've tried every rom available for the OPX and always go back to CM12 or CM13 by MasterAwesome..
If you decide to root, there are many options for tweaking. I use the blu_sparks kernel, tasker and secure settings, viper4android, xPosed, greenify, busybox, ad away...
My screen-on-time varies from day to day, but I always make it through the day with normal usage.
There are bugs on any device, it depends what rom you're using. Some get resolved faster than others, but there are no perfect devices.
I'm moderately happy with the OPX. It's the right physical size for me and looks great with the rounded glass. It feels great in the hands. I love having the sd card.
I have had an issue with the magnetic sensor tripping and shutting off/locking my screen repeatedly, but that was "resolved" by using a non-flip-cover case.
If I wasn't as comfortable as I am flashing and rooting devices, I probably wouldn't be very happy with this device.
When the time comes to upgrade again, I doubt I will buy another OnePlus. They have atrocious customer service. It's basically non-existent.

OxygenOS is fine. I have been using it since Dec 2015. It is clean and very close to AOSP Lollipop. I will stay with stock for official Marshmallow update from OnePlus. Hopefully the developers community will have similar AOSP based ROM available to play with.

Well its too early to call for favourite ROM. CM13 is good but RIL is little weak on that. WIfi, mobile data issue. Its as close to daily driver but depends on person to person. Since all of them are close to pure android, It would be hard to pick a favourite . Btw right now I am sticking to OOs for manual camera mode, it comes pretty handy sometimes. Though there are few bugs, smoothness makes me happy. Btw I am rocking Boeffla kernel, greenify, amplify and xposed.

Thanks all for recommendations. Been using it for few hours and so far I like it. I do wish the size was smaller like the moto x but I'm sure will get use to it. One thing, wow is this phone slippery! I use to have nexus 4, that was also all glass but I never felt like I would drop it. Maybe it's the metal edge of the OP. Any good cases, something slim and light?

I recently bought few phones and don't know which one to keep to replace my old 2013 moto x. I got galaxy alpha, oneplus x, and Z5 compact. To be honest none feel as good ergonomically as the moto x. The oneplus is nice, good screen and speed but a Lil big. The z5c is really nice but darn thing si hard to hold without a case. Just way too slippery. And loli on it not very fast in my opinion. Also gets pretty warm with light surfing. Not terribly hot but the hottest of the bunch. The alpha is good all around. Nice size, weight is awesome... So light! Speed seems good. My first time using Samsung, it's not as terrible as I thought would be. I switched to Nova prime and feels good. No SD card is a bummer but not deal breaker. It's also slippery but best grip of bunch without case. Screen is good but a bit yellow and not as sharp next to oneplus.
What do you all think, which would you keep?

I am the type of person that nitpicks all the imperfections in phones. every single phone that been out for the past 6 months i have tried it. so i basically had a try of every kind of software. i had a iphone 6s plus but i felt that i paid to much for what i was getting. so then i was hesitating getting the one plus x because it said it was missing bands. but i was lucky to live in a area where lte is supported. i feel the one plus x is a well rounded device. and the community for this phone is pretty amazing. i was also coming from honor 5x but there was development on it yet. for me the size is not an issue i actually i wish it was a little bigger. alpha and compact i haven't tried them. but what your getting for in the one plus x is definitely a win in my book. if you think its too slippery buy a skin from dbrand or slickwraps. Hope i made your choice a little easier. @mario24601

I'm glad to see that you're having a positive experience with CM13. May I ask how battery life worked for you? — as I'm seeing battery life as a con for a majority of the ROMs available for this device.

I have previously used CM roms on my phones so I isntalled CM 12.1 by MasterAwsome right after I got the OPX. Of course like it , but encountered a bug in volume call. So decided to give a try to Oxygen OS 2.2.0 and I can say I am more then happy with it. Missed some CM customization but nothing I can not handle. On Oxygen , I encounter the bug related to the missing button to close all opened apps - I had to reboot to safe mode then reboot normally to fix it.
I use wifi on work and home, 3g and location always on during day, gps and sound while walking - and I can make it through 2 days before charging, since I watch videos rarely and as long as screen brightness is not set high (I set it at 25%). During the night battery-saver option comes handy.

It's the best in comparison to any other ROM out there. 6)-7 hours of SOT easily

I'm liking the X more and more as I use it.
When I'm using SD card, every time I reboot, I have to enable SD card in camera to use it, is this normal?

Well, battery life is relative. Some days i get 4 hours SoT, sometimes i can get 7. It depends on so many things: whats apps i used that day and for how long, the strength of my wifi/cell signals, screen brightness etc.
On some roms, ive noticed the battery draining very quickly even while not being used.
Right now im using the new CandySix rom and it also has pretty decent battery life.
