The method only applies to P8 and the author says it might not be applicable to Max as the recovery is P8.

Managed to root my phone.. even when I have updated the EMUI to B018, but there was an issue.. I tell you below
Step I follow from Chinese Forum below...
Preparation step :
1. download the tools from

2. Extract the content to your local. Note there are two folders :
- Folder 1 is for the tool that contains the TWRP recovery.img and the adb/fastboot tool,
- Folder 2 is for the original recovery
3. Copy the SuperSU zip to your phone (either in internal or external memory of your phone)
Installation step :
Step 0, unlock your bootloader (search around on how to do it)
1. Since I am using mac, somehow I don't need to install any driver, but if you using windows, install all the driver yourself
2. Enable the developer mode in your phone, and after that enable the usb debugging
3. Turn off your phone, and boot to fastboot (in off mode, connect the phone with your PC then press Volume Up and Power Button together)
4. Since now your phone has been connected to the PC, go to that Tool folder in respective of your OS, then overwrite the recovery with TWRP with fastboot command (install custom recovery) *note : for mac just add "./" in every command
- check the whether its connected : fastboot devices
- install TWRP : fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
5. Restart your phone and boot to recovery
- restart : fastboot reboot
- after reboot, turn off your phone
- reboot to recovery : turn on your phone by holding Volume Down with Power button
- Now you are at TWRP
6. Install SuperSU (root)
- Install SuperSU zip that has already been copied to your phone using TWRP (use the Install mode)
7. Reboot the phone
- Use reboot function in twrp
8. Profit
Theoritically the above things works but I have some issues following the above :
- After step 4, after recovery being flashed with TWRP seems like my phone Boot Partition is being overwritten too
- So when I rebooted the phone, it boot to TWRP instead
- So I tried to re-flashed the recovery with the original EMUI rom recovery (go to the folder "2.P8Max_Official_Recovery(For_restoration)" to find the original recovery.img). Also note that in the this folder, the adb and fastboot is only for mac. The one for windows use it in the tools

Instead of flashing the recovery to the phone you can just boot it one time. Just use fastboot boot recovery.img instead. This will load twrp and not flash it.

Speaker is damn good... but when playing games or watching movie, it is covered by the hand... so it would be better if the speaker is front facing..
otherwise it's good... but I do hate EMUI though... its making the experience sluggish...

Im try to unlock my p8max, when using Huawei unlock site dont allow unclock because log in by email account, they requested register with phone number, but im not in listed countries for receive a confirmation code by phone.
Who have registered Huawei account by phone please share,

The stock recovery when it's launched, it's in English, dun worry I have re-flashed it as I mentioned in the prev post..
Anyway the stock recovery is extracted from the current available ROM for P8 Max, which is in chinese. There is no international ROM available yet for this phone.

so did you find working twrp recovery? i managed to flash it and install root and boot only one time
i could not boot so system again so i flashed the stock

1. Download last build dc-unlocker
2. Buy 4 credits
3. In dialer enter * # * # 2846579 # * # *
4. Goto - "Project Menu", "Background settings", "USB ports settings", "Manufacture mode"
5. Connect phone to PC
6. Install drivers
7. Start dc-unlocker
8. In list "Phone manufacture" choose Huawei phones
9. Phone model must be setting by default - check "Auto..."
10. Push search button and wait few sec till device be discovered.
11. When phone discovered, open "server"
12. Input login and password that youre already buy (4credits) and store, then push "check login"
Program shows user name and credit balance.
13. Push "Read bootloader code" - warning use all as in manual !!!

Phone will boot in mode === fastboot ===
6. On PC - push and hold Shift and click by right mouse button on folder with ADB and choose something like "open window command" in menus
7. Run command fastboot oem unlock XXX (where XXX - unlock code you receive for 4 credits)
8. On phone screen apears menus where you will see unlock device or not
9. Use Vol buttons for choose unlock and use power button as enter
You receive message about unlocking device
7. Run command fastboot reboot for rebooting phone
During reboot each time you will see yellow warning "phone not trusted" and so on. It dissapears when bootloader will be locked again, but think good you need this or not.
III Installing TWRP
Put TWRP image file (TWRP.img) to PC ADB folder
Start phone in fastboot mode (look upper)
Start command fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img (use correct name of you file)
Then at finish run command fastboot reboot
New builds of TWRP i usually flash using FLASHIFY from Google market (Play)
IV ROOT phone
Download SuperSU
Put it to SD card
Loading TWRP
1. Power phone OFF
2. Push and hold Vol up button and same time push power on button
3. Choose Install for SuperSU on SD card
4. Rebooting. Attention ! Will be proposed to install SuperSU - dont agree, skip!
This will be each time when exit from TWRP - skip!
Note: in my own case i dont remember that it was

V You may be needed to change phone location
How to check phone location - in dialer *#*#2846579#*#*, then go to Network Information Query —> Vendor Country Info.
How to install new location using TWRP:
1. If you dont have installed, flash TWRP in fastboot using command: fastboot flash recovery <filename>.img.
2. Format in TWRP section /data (Wipe —> Format Data).
3. Flash zip file (approx 240kb) through TWRP (menu Install).

can not boot back into twrp
I can't seem to get TWRP to load back up with the vol+ and power button combo....It keeps going to stock recovery....I have root and all but I can't boot back into twrp. I seem to remember (during my mate 2 days) that I can modify a file with root explorer to so it would boot into twrp with these key presses. Does anyone know the file change that needs to be done?

Solved it... I needed to quickly let go of the buttons to get into twrp.

[Guide] Flash Stock Rom Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML

Hey Guys. This guide will help you if
1. If Using Custom Rom and want to revert to latest stock rom.
2. If Stock Rom got corrupted or became laggy.
3. You want to reinstall stock rom.
Warning:
1. Method 1 require unlocked bootloader. If you want to unlock then go Here . Method 2 doesn't. Don't worry.
2. This will clean your phone just like new phone.
3. First read the post twice carefully then proceed.
4. ALL .bat FILES TO BE RUN IN FASTBOOT MODE ONLY, IF YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT FASTBOOT MODE THEN GOOGLE "HOW TO GET FASTBOOT MODE IN ASUS ZENFONE 2
5. I may change name of files in folder. Use common sense to identify them.
Pre-requisites:
1. Charge your phone atleast 60%.
2. Backup any important data you might not wanna loose to either sd card or usb drive or pc.
3. Copy the rom zip in the sd card of your phone. (The one with size in GB)
4. Android USB Driver should be installed already, if it is not then install all drivers in the "Drivers Folder".
5. Enable USB Debugging.
For that go to "Settings" ,Scroll to bottom goto "about", goto "Software Information", tap "Build number" upto 7 times or till it
says "You are a developer now". Then go to "Settings" you will find "Developer Options", open it and enable "USB Debugging"
4. Common sense, patience.

Procedure:
METHOD 1​Step 1. Flash TWRP recovery if not installed by using "TWRP.bat" (Given in twrp folder) in fastboot mode or bootloader mode whatever you call it.
Step 2. Go to Twrp recovery then choose "wipe" then choose "Advance wipe" and tick everything except "SD card or external sd card". then swipe to wipe.
Step 3. Go to fastboot/bootloader mode and flash stock recovery running appropriate .bat file. It is given in "Stock Recovery" folder.
Step 4. When the command executes from the above step, Go to "recovery" by pressing volume down button, then press "power" button.
Step 5. You will see a dead android logo. Nothing else. Then go to stock recovery options.
If you don't know how then use following methods
Method 1:
When you see a dead android bot with an error press and hold power button, then (while holding power button) quickly press Vol up and release and then release power button..
Method 2:
Go to fastboot mode. Connect your device and open command prompt there. Then Type
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Step 6: You should see stock recovery options. Then choose "Update from sd card" and select the rom zip you pasted in SD card.
(If you don't have sd card, then paste rom in internal memory and don't tick "internal storage" in twrp in step 2) But micro
sd is preferable.
Step 7: Wait. Your phone may take 20-30 or more minutes. So leave it on charging.
METHOD 2​Step 1: Download and Install all drivers given in download folder. Download RAW firmware for your phone. See above in download links.
Step 2: Install "ASUS FLASH TOOL"
Step 3: Go to fastboot/bootloader mode on your phone. Run asus flash tool, select your phone model and browse for the raw firmware. Check wipe all data. And start the process.
Step 4: Wait for program to say successful. If it takes more than 30 minutes. Disconnect your phone and check phone if rom installed or not.
If this process does not work. Then switch methods.
If you have any questions, problems .. Just Comment it.

FAQ
1. Having problems with device connection? like waiting for device.
Sol. Make sure you have enabled USB Debugging (Not applicable for BL Unlocking and TWRP Flashing)
Uninstall all drivers previously installed on computer(every driver of any device)
Reboot your computer. And then install all drivers given in the driver folder.
If the problem persists, try different computer and different usb cable.
2. Facing permission denied in fastboot mode or while running script files.
Sol. Try disabling your lock screen security to none.

Thanks for suggestion. But the reasons​ are
First thing is stock raw image of latest version is very difficult to find.
Second thing sometime asus flash tool stops responding. So you have to wait again for 30 minutes. Also it doesn't show progress sometimes.

As long as you have the correct drivers (which you need for your process too) the AFT will get the job done in one easy step.

I have the Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML with sound issues, (it's only when the phone rings that the speaker works) and I put it into recovery mode to wipe cache/data, but it got stuck while doing that and I forced it off. But now, it's stuck at the Asus Boot logo with the rotating icon underneath.

damn my asus flash tool says error flashing image failure.... (remote not allowed to flash this partion)

and now the button under "state" is red and under description, it's " check the detected serial number failure (not found the device of "SERIALNUMBER") "
you understand the i've replace the real serial number by SERIALNUMBER in those lines.

I have the latest security patch(March 1, 2019), I've been searching for the past 3 days for a working method to root my mate 10 lite, found nothing.
Huawei stopped providing oem unlock codes, All the services that provided unlock codes for money are now obsolete too.
I'm trying to find a way to root this phone on my own, but I'm not sure where to go from here.
I've read this book today "XDA Developers' Android Hacker's Toolkit", but it teaches how to use rooting methods that are already out there and not how to create your own way to root a device.
Can you provide guidance on where to go from here to learn how to find vulnerabilities in android?

I got my bootloader unlocker, now I'm installing a custom rom, but there's no much custom roms for mate 10 lite.

Sorry, I misread. xD
Well, you can either flash TWRP for Oreo. Not sure which is "best" though, take one with decryption support if available for RNE on Oreo. Then you flash Magisk zip in twrp.
Or you can take your stock ramdisk and patch it in Magisk Manager, then flash the patched ramdisk from fastboot.
I would provably go with TWRP and Magisk zip though, as you would need a stock ramdisk from an update.app of your build. So saves some downloading
Basically flash TWRP using fastboot: fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp.img
Reboot to recovery which will end up in TWRP. Flash latest Magisk using the Install button in twrp.

So it may or may not have working decryption. But if you have an external SD it doesn't really matter as you'd only transfer magisk to that.

Download latest stable.
Flash twrp using fastboot.
Reboot to recovery.
Transfer magisk zip to external SD.
Flash Magisk zip using the Install button
You will probably have to browse to /external_sd manually as it will default to /sdcard in the install browser.
If it fails to install using TWRP:
Open terminal in TWRP from the Advanced button then enter this command:
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/ramdisk of=/external_sd/ramdisk.img
This will dump your stock ramdisk to external sd, which you then can patch in Magisk Manager and flash the output file to 'ramdisk' using fastboot. You will have to install Magisk Manager apk first though, it can be found in the Magisk thread.

Your device must have an*unlocked bootloader.
Huawei HiSuite installed on your computer because it will install all the USB drivers
Download and install*Minimal ADB and fastboot Tool*on your computer. The folder location should be C:\Program Files(x86)\Minimal ADB and fastboot.

Yes you can, although you have to download updates through firmware finder and update with HuRUpdater in twrp.

Then there is another solution - install TWRP over eRecovery (my own experience) :
- copy to SD card TWRP-oreo-smart.img
- in main TWRP menu tap Install image, then navigate
to the TWRP-oreo-smart, select
eRecovery_ramdisk and confirm Flash . System
reboot.
- Download and copy to the Minimal ADB and fastboot folder RECOVERY_RAMDISK330.img

Okay, one can install Magisk without TWRP. There are plenty of guides on how to do these things in the Mate 10 forums. Of course, TWRP makes things easier ....

U can use pc if u have but if u dont then follow these steps

My main goal is to use the tablet as an LCD display for my PC sensors.
I need root to auto enable tethering on usb plug.
Device is still rebooting from the flash for now, but I think it should have done the trick for my purpose.

@Aks BRAR SOTHA Did you manage to prevent Android from updating ?
It tries to update and update fails. Then try again and again..
Edit: For my purpose, I can just disable WiFi, and no more update. But this is not the elegant way :/

Thats the big problem preventing it is not possible
If u are using internet from other device u can shift from wifi hotspot to bluetooth hotspot
I dont know any other way

I just found this thread and thanks for the instructions. I was able to successfully root my tablet using this method. Of course it kept wanting to update and failed during the process so I thought I would try to get the update patched...
with the device rooted (with the old firmware) allow the update to download
get a shell with `adb shell` and then `su -` (approve the root request on the device)
the zip file is located in `data/data/com.lenovo.ota/fileslenovoota` unzip it and copy boot.img to somewhere the magisk app can find (I used `/sdcard/Download/`)
patch the boot.img with magisk
use adb pull to get the patched img onto your computer
boot into fastboot and flash the original boot.img, system.img, vendor.img from the zip provided above (in the original instructions)
reboot the tablet. The update should now be able to complete
once complete, reboot into fastboot again and flash the updated patched boot.img
reboot and you should be on the latest version and be rooted.
I've also attached the patched boot.img from the update
