[guide] Backup with locked bootloader!! - OnePlus X General

thats right!! the title is correct!! I have found a way and just now tested and successfully made a nandroid backup with a locked bootloader!! this guide will describe how to make a nandroid backup of your oneplus x with a locked bootloader so you then can unlock the bootloader and restore your nandroid backup!
First step: Root your oneplus x using this method **(make sure you keep all the files from this guide on an sdcard so you can access them later!! because this method will be used again)**: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-x/general/guide-root-oneplus-x-twrp-pc-t3251027?nocache=1
make sure to hit that like button and thank @StraightEdgeKid for this guide!!
after rooting your oneplus x we can move on to step 2.
Step 2: download flashify from the play store and use that to backup stock recovery, after that you can download twrp (i used blu_spark twrp from @eng.stk link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-x/orig-development/kernel-t3250995) and flash twrp via flashify app.
Step 3: boot into twrp and preform a nanbroid backup!!
after you successfully completed your nandorid backup save it to an sd card or flash drive or computer for safe keeping!
Step 4: head over to this thread and follow the guide to unlocking your bootloader **(note before you attempt to unlock your bootloader use flashify app to restore stock recovery or else it wont work!!!)**
link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-x/general/discussion-how-to-root-oneplus-x-t3242830/page25
also don't forget to thank @CafeKampuchia for his guide and hard work!!
Step 5: after your bootloader is unlocked and your phone is wiped and rebooted, sign into your google account and download a file explorer of choice, download flashify again. Now re-root using step 1, then after you re-rooted and have supersu again open flashify and flash twrp again (again i used blu spark twrp) and then boot into twrp, after your in recovery you can then restore your nandroid backup and thats it!! you now have an unlocked bootloader any yoour phone is like it was before!!
**Disclaimer: I am not responsible for anything that happens to your device (ex: bricks, bootloops, busts into flames, ends the world haha) by using this guide and by following this guide you except the fact that you are responsible for your actions!! Rooting does not void the OnePlus X’s warranty, though damaging your hardware (i.e., burning up your CPU by overclocking, hardbricking the device) will. You proceed at your own risk! I accept no responsibility for what you do with your phone. with that said i will do my best to help anyone that needs it!!
This guide has been tested and proven to work, I personally tested it before i created this guide!

[Q] best way to upgrade TWRP ?

currently I'm on 2.6.0.0 and I was thinking of the benefits to upgrading to the latest version, plus also the risks involved. Whats the best way to upgrade TWRP ?
Use goomanager. It's by far the easiest since it's mostly automated.

I just downloaded the latest version of TWRP, booted into the bootloader and loaded the image by
Code:
fastboot flash recovery {insert name of image file here}
. Easy peasy,,,
oops, it's a bit late. I found the goomanager and installed it, trouble is I installed the OTA update which has set my device unrooted. There is no TWRP any more, not sure how to get into recovery mode as a dead android with a red triangle appears. I'm unlocked, but just cant get into recovery.
I took a full TWRP backup before I started, any tips ?

Just use ADB to Fastboot flash recovery. Either Fastboot flash your root file or copy it to your device. If you copy it to your device, then boot to recovery and flash your Superuser or SuperSU .zip. You don't want to restore your backup though if your on the latest OTA now and your backup is the previous OTA.

Wug works well.. Simple too.

theres TWRP flashable zips in the TWRP thread, this is the easiest if you alrady got TWRP
you can use wug to install it for the first time then use goomanager to update it later or TWRP manager to dl manually.

Do I need to unlock the bootloader?

Hello!
I want to finally install a custom rom for my phone (GT-I9301I) but to do that I want to install TWRP. Every tutorial on how to install TWRP just use odin and phone in download mode despite the fact that in a lot of places it is said that you need to have an unlocked bootloader to flash a custom recovery. (Also in CF-auto root webpage it is stated that bootloader needs to be unlocked). But do I really need to unlock the bootloader (yes, I am new to this) to flash a custom recovery when using Odin? And after the TWRP is installed I can just use CF auto root and then install the ROM, right?
I would greatly appreciate your help !
Thanks in advance,
TheKiloOhm
I'm pretty sure, that S3Neo+ has an unlocked bootloader.
There is a way to flash a recovery without a PC. Use Flashify just from the Play Store.

But I need root access which I can get by flashing CF auto root.
Is Towelroot considered as a common rooting tool?

Well.. Try booting to download mode. (Vol. and center button down on boot). If you want to root you should download custom recovery. I recommend TWRP.
Ok, first of all..
I AM REALLY HAPPY SOMEONE MENTIONED THIS AT LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAST
Now.. I have this device.. and mine is bootloader locked
our s3ve3g is definitely locked...
and I tried to flash TWRP using ODIN and I ended up looping (Read)
So Take Care ...
Been trying to find a way to unlock this thing for a while now... will post my findings here or on my blog if I ever find anything
Edit: Did I mention that some variants of our specific device are locked and some are not !!
and I can't figure out the difference...
Found this
and it pointed me to this
but I don't have time to test now...
OK... I think I found the answer...
According to IanWorthington

FIXED: This TWRP requires 4.4.4. It does NOT work on 4.3.

A factory reset isn't going to help in this case. The reason you are stuck on the M logo is because marshmallow requires a modified boot.img. SuperSU 2.49 is an older version and does not do that. SuperSU 2.62-3 works for pretty much everyone on here. I would use it. But anyways, your best option would be to download that version on a PC or laptop and transfer it to internal storage or external sdcard and flash it in TWRP. The second option would be to reflash the system.img for your specific device. Then root with 2.62-3.

{Guide} How to Root ONEPLUS 3T (Unlock bootloader, TWRP Recovery, SuperSu)

Rooting this device is actually quite a simple and easy process. Before you begin, it is recommended that you at least try to understand what each part of the process will do. Although this guide will elongate each step in order to show all of the details, the method used can be broken up into 3 main steps: Unlocking the Bootloader, Installing a Custom Recovery and finally Rooting.
1. Download the ADB For Windows from here :-
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0MKgCbUM0itNVB1elljU2NPR0k/view
2. TWRP: https://mega.nz/#!v9MmGQ5C!i5VroRopCVz2_Uoc6Mi2U6N4oDa0HK1SxCrkDrc4mwQ
3. SuperSu: https://mega.nz/#!eh13yLiC!3tkx_RkLg-D8T6mi35zDUB8AYEPLliBsL8yO1dmZbI8
Steps:
1.Backup Data
2.Unlock boot loader
3.Flash Recovery
4.Flash SuperSU

Simply flash the full ROM.zip manually in recovery, typically 1.4GB.
That means not installing the incremental mini zips. And not installing from the settings menu.
It's up to you whether you want to wipe data or cache.

Thanks for putting this together you made my night!
Thanks, I have unlocked bootloader, Installed TWRP, and Super Su.
one question though, when after setting my account going for nandroid backup there I found SYSTEM as well SYSTEM IMAGE.
what is difference between them, What thing should I backup.
Also there is showing your system is Unmounted, so when I should have to mount it.
Thanks to all Once again.
Hello guys, thanks for the guide!
I was wondering if anyone has faced the same problem as me - while trying to root the Oneplus 3T I constantly get a bootloop after flashing SuperSU. The latest TWRP (3.0.4.0) is installed without any problems in fastboot, the system is mounted as r/w, and I don't see any problems during flashing SuperSU package...
I've tried it before and after OOS 4.0.2, I've tried old and new, stable and beta versions of SuperSU, but either way the phone is stuck on bootscreen after flashing.
P. S. If I flash the official ROM after that - it boots up instantly without any errors... And with no root :/
I'm having the same problem

Working root for honor 8 pro

This is only for Honor 8 Pro (DUK-L09)
DISCLAIMERYOUR WARRANTY IS NOW VOID. IN NO WAY AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EFFECTS YOU INFLICT ON YOUR MOBILE DEVICE BY FOLLOWING THE BELOW PROCEDURE. IMPROPER USAGE OF THE METHOD MIGHT END UP BRICKING YOUR DEVICE AND RENDERING IT UNUSABLE.
PLEASE BACKUP ALL YOUR DATA BEFORE PROCEEDING.
Purpose of this thread is to provide a working rooting method for the Honor 8 Pro. Flashing Phhsuperuser doesn't grant SYSTEM WIDE root permission.
Functions like granting -rw permissions to apps demanding them for accessing /system partition was disabled, TWRP backup wouldn't work.
With this method, you will be able to operate the phone will proper root privileges.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. UNLOCK BOOTLOADER
Assuming you have a Huawei ID, use THIS PAGE to get your Unlock code.
Once you have that, enable USB debugging on your device from Developer options menu.
Make sure "Allow OEM unlock" option is selected.
Use the following set of commands via ADB/Fastboot:
adb device (this should recognize your device)
adb reboot bootloader (this will boot your phone into fastboot mode)
fastboot oem unlock *unlock key* (the part between * is where the unlock key goes)
The device will restart and then perform factory reset itself.
2. INSTALL CUSTOM RECOVERY IMAGE (Source : TWRP Thread by OldDroid)
Download TWRP recovery image from HERE
Rename the downloaded file to recovery.img
Copy it to the ADB folder that you are using.
Use the command "adb reboot bootloader" like in Step 1 to boot into Fastboot mode.
Flash the recovery using "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" command (without quotes)
You have now flashed a custom recovery onto your phone.
3. ROOTING
Download Magisk installer zip file from THIS LINK . I had personally used v 13.3 .
Copy it to your SD card(I would suggest you to use a external card).
Switch off your device.
Boot into recovery mode by pressing Volume Up and Power Button together.
Once in, swipe to allow modifications.
Go to Wipe - Format Data
Then Go to Reboot- Recovery
You should be back into the recovery mode. Go to Install menu - Select storage - Install the Magisk zip that you downloaded.
Once it is flashed, you can Reboot to system.
Note: To confirm system wide root access, you can reboot to recovery and try to take a Nandroid backup. It should now be possible.
If anyone happens to run into a bootloop or soft bricks the device, THIS THREAD by @aKp1 will come in handy.
Thanks to @OldDroid for his TWRP thread.

Yes you will have to unroot first. Since phhsuperuser doesn't have a option to UNROOT, you will have to flash stock ROM.
To do that, download the following: HUAWEI UPDATE EXTRACTOR and STOCK ROM .
Follow below steps:
Extract the Stock ROM
Use the Update extractor and select "Update.app" file. That should give you a list of files. Select "recovery.img" and "recovery2.img" image files and extract them.
Copy them to ADB folder. Boot your phone into fastboot mode, flash the two recovery files you copied.
Next, Copy the "dload" folder to your SD card(preferably external SD). Switch your phone off. Press Vol Up,Vol Down and Power button together. The ROM should start flashing. That brings you back to stock firmware. If you want to re-root, follow the instructions in this thread.

The zip I shared is for the Indian variant . As long as someone is having C675(Indian variant) installed, it shouldn't cause issues. However if you come from a different region(C432) , you will have to use region zip. I guess I mentioned that in the TWRP thread, current last post.
But formatting data can't be avoided as unlocking bootloader will wipe it in first place . More over stock ROM encrypts data on first boot, so you will have to format data(decrypt it) and proceed with rooting.
