[Help!] Can't flash custom ROM because.. - Xiaomi Redmi 2 Questions & Answers

I flashed "Resurection Remix" but it's stuck first time booting. I've left it for up to 20 minutes and it hasn't done anything then I had problems getting in to recovery but I managed to get in to recovery but then Windows stopped picking up the storage on the Redmi 2 so I can't get the rom on to the Redmi 2.
I then tried to "adb sideload" but no matter what driver I use, it says "you need adb 1.0.32 or newer to sideload this device" so i'm stuck yet again.
The Redmi 2 only appears in Device Manager when it's in "fastboot" mode and I currently have the latest drivers from Android SDK.
This isn't really my strong point in technology so i'm highly confused as to what to do, does anyone know how to help. Please.

@CarterDavison
This thing also happened with me. Resurrection remix got bootloop on my phone. But there is no thing to worry about. Follow these steps :
1) Download CM 13 (latest emfox build) and micro arm 6.0 gapps from opengapps.
2) Place them in the external SD card.
3) Boot into recovery, Mount ext SD card.
4) Clear data, cache &dalvik cache.
5) Flash ROM then gapps.
6) Reboot, done.
PM me if something goes wrong.

I've managed to fix it and flash "Resurrection Remix" without the boot problem although I keep getting "Setup Wizard has stopped" and "Google Play services has stopped" even though i've tried 2-3 different gapps and reflashing remix.
Any ideas?

I think you need to gave all permissions to gapps or did you used the right gapps?

Give all permissions to all the google apps. This is marshmallow & you need to grant permissions to every app.

Help a n00b there please :o3

Hey, look what i've done while desperately trying to install GearCM or CM12 ROM. First, i installed TWRP on my i9500 device. After that, i put the GearCM 5.1 and Gapps for 5.1 on sdcard, but i got mad really fast when i saw i can't install ANY ZIP from sdcard, then tried another CUSTOM ROMS, same problem, i wiped cache and system ( ye, system ) ) - dont ask why i did that - Anyway, now i have no system files on phone, and on my sdcard i only got that useless ZIPs.
Ah, forgot to mention, the error showing up everytime i tried to install a zip was : "Zip corrupted, Operation aborted" (something like that ).
NOTE : I can't boot normally, but i can boot in recovery (TWRP) . I can't flash another rom using odin as i can't switch usb debugging ON.
Ah, please, don't laugh too much, im pretty serious
Oh, some1 explain this to me -> I tried to install zip @ adb as i saw explained on a blog -> got stuck at recognizing phone-pc due to driver error, so i decided to try last time installing the custom ROMs( THE SAME ZIPs i got error before) from recovery -> install zips. AND GUESS WHAT, less than 20s rom is installed without any errors, i dont know if to be mad or happy. Atleast explain me what happened there.

*stare and laughing a lot*
*Just kidding, okay? :silly: *
And then;
You have corrupted zips. You need to redownload the package completely (ROM+GApps) and transfer it to your external SD card and flash. You can transfer the downloaded zips by using adb push command or remove your external SD card and plug it to anything else (read: SD card reader; of course ).

Yeah, maybe im not exactly as n00b as you think. I used exactly the same zips after(same procedure tho), and it worked smooth(i didn'teven touch them).
NOTE : I think i said i tried using adb to install zips but i got a driver error which i couldn't solve.
I've had that issue for some time especially with CM, have you tried verifying the sh1 checksum once you've loaded it onto your sd card?
Thanks.

A2017G V1.2 0B09 - Cannot install ROMs without Gapps

My phone is bootloader unlocked & rooted + TWRP but still using the original Nougat firmware from ZTE. Now, for some unexplained reason I cannot install any custom ROM that does NOT have Gapps incuded, like Resurrection Remix or similar slim ROMs without Gapps. TWRP just gives the usual can't install error.
Moreover, even if I install a ROm with Gapps successfully I cannot go past the 'Google verifying account' (have to wait for 24 hours) nonsense.
Any advise appreciated.

What's your TWRP version?
I guess you are installing the Universal Bootloader, right? Do you install a newer TWRP img after that?
Which are the ROMs that fail?
What's the failure error?
Have you ever formatted data? What's its filesystem?

Thanks for the response. I used Axon7 Toolkit for all actions, including boot unlocking (no idea which version Axon Toolkit installed). It also installed TWRP 3.1.1.0 alisa which I've had all the time.
The ROMs that failed were 'XenonHD-170609-Unofficial.zip' and 'Resurrection Remix' (RR-N-v5.8.5-20171108-axon7-Official.zip). Also I installed successfully 'A2017G(N-B06)_AROMA_SL!M2+DF!NR_by_raystef66.zip' which has Gapps included....but the problem was that I could not get past the google account verification, even though I know my google details. It says I had to wait 24 hours before signing in.
The failure error from XenonHD and Resurrection Remix ROMs was: Updater process ended with error: 7
Yes I formatted data each time I installed a ROM.
I don't know how to find out what the file system is.

I believe you forgot to flash the Universal Bootloader. That's an error on your end.
Basically, what the Universal Bootloader does is change your device's info to something 'universal' (it somewhat standardizes A2017s, A2017Us and A2017Gs into an intermediate so that you can flash any custom ROM on any of the 3). It also installs TWRP 3.0.2-N or sth like that. So basically you need to have TWRP-3.1.1-0.img on your phone, then flash the Universal Bootloader, then the modem for your device (get the latest from Raystef66's download center), then the ROM and whatever ZIPs you want to install (ALWAYS install SuperSU or Magisk or you'll get the internal storage encrypted and you'll have to format the internal storage every time you want to change ROM), and lastly Install Image - the TWRP.img - install to recovery partition.
You can get the Universal Bootloader from the LOS thread. There are also modem files for the 3 models but they are rather old, so just get the B09 modem from the download center

Just two things, you mentioned "and lastly Install Image - the TWRP.img - install to recovery partition". I already have TWRP 3.1.1.0 installed so did you mean to install it again after flashing the Universal Bootloader and modem?
Also, is this the correct link for the LOS thread you mentioned: https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/download-center-factory-images-ota-t3606547

The Universal bootloader flashes an old TWRP version. After you reboot and enter the recovery again you will get an old TWRP. So to avoid this you have to flash the Universal Bootloader and then TWRP 3.1.1 or 3.2.1
That's the download center... I mean the LineageOS thread over at the ROMs section. By Unjustified Dev

Hi again, almost everything worked as per your suggestions except installing ROMs without Gapps as mentioned previously such as Resurrection Remix. I get the dreaded 'To Start Android, Enter Password' notice (pic attached). Even after putting a random password it comes up with 'The password you entered is correct, but unfortunately your data is corrupt'. I did a factory reset but no joy. So it looks like I have to install Gapps also?. By the way my device is not encrypted.
On a different note, do you know of a link that has a mod for increasing the volume in the ear speaker so I can hear callers with a louder volume.

You have to format the internal storage, because it is encrypted. Do this:
You need to have Magisk 15.1 or 14 or SuperSU 2.79 ready. I recommend the latest Magisk. If you have an SD card, put it there. If not, leave it on your PC and have the phone connected.
Go to TWRP, Wipe, Advanced Wipe, Format data. Be sure that it formats as ext4 (it will say 'formating using make-ext4fs or something, if it says f2fs then leave it format and then use Change filesystem to ext4).
Right after that, install Magisk. If you have the SD card it's easy, if you don't, try to connect the phone to the PC, if it appears as a mass storage option then put it there and flash it with Install. If it doesn't appear as mass storage use adb sideload
NEVER leave the phone without SuperSU or Magisk! If you change the ROM, ALWAYS install Magisk or SuperSU right after you install the ROM. Otherwise you'll have to format the internal storage again the next time you change the ROM.

***Update*** I made a mistake in formatting SYSTEM instead of DATA. Now it works fine installing the ROM's I mentioned. You are a champ!
Now all I need is to somehow find a way to raise the in-call volume (ear speaker).

Thanks for the link, however I recently discovered that with the 'XenonHD-170609-Unofficial' ROM the in-call volume is pretty loud as well as the sound from the normal sounding speakers. It also has just about everything I'd want in a lite ROM. So far it's the ROM I'll keep.

How to install DotOS?

Hello hopefully this question is allowed and this is the right place to ask. If not pls dont hurt me.
So i saw a thread about DotOS and it looks really nice so i thought i should install it. But tbh i'm totally lost. I have a Galaxy S5 SM-G900F model. And i dont know what to do to get something like a Custom Rom to running on it. I saw something about Bootloader there then some Recovery tool and Flashing. But nowhere i found a real "Tutorial" or Step by Step guide. So before i do something stupid and destroy my Phone i ask here for help. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advice!

Did you wipe data before flashing the rom?
You can manually just goto settings and clear data of every Google app but really if you wiped data before you flashed the rom you wouldn't need to do this
Can't really suggest anything else
I use lineageos 15.1

EDIT: I tried to restart the phone. In the left Up corner it say: Waranty something about Kernel in yellow. And the Boot time takes some time longer. But it starts without a problem. But still i cant skip past the "Checking for updates" sequence.

Flash rom zip only
Boot the rom
Go back into recovery mode
Flash gapps and magisk
Restart
Or you can manually disable the welcome screen by editing the build.prop
It's probably a rom thing but since I don't use it I can't advise further
If you can't get it working use the official lineage os 15.1 rom instead

Flash process is as I originally wrote
Also make sure you are using the latest bootloader & modem

Alright so i flashed the rom only and started it. Works without a single Problem. So i guess maybe its something with the Google Apps. But now i installed Google Apps without Magisk and it works too. But when i want to open Google Play Store it just tells me: Google Play Services keeps stopping. So is it something with the MindTheGapps? I used this version: MindTheGapps-8.1.0-x86-20180808_153917
IMPORTANT EDIT!!! :
So i tried Lineage OS as suggested. Same problem. Google Play Services stopped working. So its 100% a Google Apps problem at least i think so. Any idea how to fix this? Tried MindTheGapps x86. OpenGapps on DotOS site with Arm64 then it failed and told me to use for my device the ARM version. Good installed that. Worked but there also Google Play Services stopped working. So what is the problem here? Also i used that Bootloader & Modem thing so i use the latest of these things.

Sorry my mistake - I got confused over which gapps you were selecting
I thought you were talking about 64bit or 32bit arm
It should be arm not x86
Use this one
Just wipe everything and flash again as per original instructions but use this gapps zip

As long as you wiped system data and cache and then flashed the rom zip & the arm gapps no reason why it would
You can always format data instead (option on right of to advanced wipe) but make sure you transfer anything on internal storage you need to keep to pc first)
You can always try OpenGapps instead
Arm 8.1 nano

I dont know. I do always the same as you told me. System ,Data , Cache and Dalvik Cache. Then Flashing and reboot. As said everything works just the Google Apps refuse to work. But hey. I got it managed to install with APK my usual Stuff like Chrome, Discord and stuff. And it works. So no complains. I just have to use apks from now on then. But better than nothing i guess. Still strange that those Gapps wont work....

Volume Up + Home + On/Off button.
Go to Wipe option on TWRP
Click Advanced Swipe
In the option "Select partitions to wipe", choose:
Dalvik/ART Cache
System
Data
Cache
Let MicroSD and USB Storage off. Don't choose them.
So swipe to wipe
Then try to make all the whole proccess again...
For Galaxy S5 will be always ARM. I've always used OpenGapps, since MindTheGapps seems gliched to me.

HI.. firstly, thank you for the ROM. I have installed it on my cancro. Couple of questions -
Which version of Gapps? I tried installing PICO or nano (ARM / 10). Both failed - either no space in partition or the package is not the correct version for this OS. Please help.
I also tried installing Play Store apk. But the app never opens and keeps crashing everytime.
Thanks in advance

Hello, on Mi3w Data(f2fs)
First I installed rom, then wipe cahed and dalvik, then reboot to recovery.
Next I tried "BiTGApps-arm-10.0.0-v0.6_signed.zip" but failed sdk version.
Then I tried "open_gapps-arm-10.0-pico-20201204.zip" and no errors at first try. so I wiped cache and dal and reboot again then flashed "Magisk_20.4"
And boot to system.
Reminder, skip pin entering after selecting 3 lock options. face unlock feature crashing and will NOT end SETUP.
BTW this is Great! Thanks! my first exp on AndroidQ.

Now I tried
flashing Rom and Gapps(pico) then Wipe Cache and Dalvik
then reboot to recovery then flash Magisk 20.4
(Optional Reboot to recovery I wiped Dalvik, Cache, Data, including Internal Storage.
Then I reboot to recovery again, because my recovery setting will reset after wiping internal storage)
Now reboot to SYSTEM
SETUP REMINDER! (My Mi3w) Face Unlock CRASHING and will NOT end SETUP.
To be safe I did (no sim inserted) Skip Data and Wifi.
Selected "FaceUnlock+Pin" (DO NOT ENTER PIN) "Skip" setup everything later.

Damaged File System - Need Fastboot Help

Unlocked Mediapad M3 wifi 713, damaged file system showing 0 storage, managed to get TWRP installed via fastboot, but TWRP is unable to change/repair any partition. I've tried to use "fastboot format:ext4 userdata" but I get the "remote: command not allowed" error.
Is there some way to use fastboot commands? Or some terminal command from TWRP?
thanks, jf
Bro have you unlocked the bootloader and it would be very helpfull to know how you corrupted the data partion,it could be solved maybe if you enter the second recovery (erecovery) and click on download lastest firmware install or so , then after its done with the installition it will probably not boot click power and volume down wait, do it some times until you get to the bootloader and unlock it, after factory reset it should boot but first explain a little more about your issue we dont want to srew your device up

Not sure how things got corrupted, had installed Linage on it, but was not able to download files from any installed program. Reinstalled Linage and it blew up. Erecovery fails to download anything, don't know why. I followed the instructions here https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-sp/help/format-data-using-twrp-3-0-2-t3371137 to format all partitions, and still TWRP only sees 0 space, can't do anything with it..
In short - can't see how anything could screw it up more!
which version of twrp is currently installed and normally for format matters only data partition is used, have you formated the system partition too,
maybe we can try to force install the update zip / you were on nougat then lineage oreo and then in the current state right?

TWRP is 3.0.3-0 It is failing to mount /data (Invalid argument) nor can it mount any other partition.
Yes, was on stock nougat, then Linage oreo, then reinstalled Linage and got current state.
When I try to install zip from PC, it appears to be successful - but apparently is not.
can you intall the twrp 3.3.1-0 which is at the lineage oreo thread and then try to install los zip https://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-m3/development/rom-t4085115

The good news is... I did that, got in unbricked, installed ROM, GAPPS... installed apps - and I'm back to the same problem I had before. I can install apps, I can download from Google Drive, but programs such as Gmail cannot download attachments. even though permission to access storage is turned on. This is all to internal storage - no external chip at this time.
thoughts?
thanks, jf
For gmail you must install the micro version of the gapps not the pico one after that it should work

It's not working for Aquamail either. Also, can't download from the web, using Brave browser.

I'm having the same issue basically storage is off limits to my apps.
The developer of the Linux 15 ROM is aware of the issue, it's on the list to be fixed.
