Android Marshmallow 6.0 is out for the whole Z5 family and has awesome new features like custom app icons and app permissions.
Edit: Seems like the Marshmallow update is out is a couple of countries so it should hit us pretty soon! http://www.androidauthority.com/sony-xperia-z5-global-marshmallow-update-678243/ Or http://www.xperiablog.net/2016/03/07/global-xperia-z5-series-now-receiving-android-marshmallow-32-1-a-1-163/
2nd edit: You can download the marshmallow update with the flashtool http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
And if you need a guide on how to flash Xperia devices with the flashtool just take a look here for a nice video tutorial. http://www.xperiablog.net/2016/03/12/install-xperia-marshmallow-using-flashtool-and-xperifirm-guide/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
3rd Edit: For the people that dont have the icon packs installed, with this link https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B6oYDQQEaRfVMEtBa2NkdjFVTW8&usp=sharing&tid=0B6oYDQQEaRfVSjFMRzBKX3F4T2M
you can install the 4 basic packs and a S6 icon pack. Install just like any apk and turn on unkown sources.
And here you can download the Xperia X icons for the z5 fam http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-premium/general/xperia-x-icon-pack-root-t3331275

That site was accurate to forecast Lollipop 5.0.2 release on Z3, last time it said LP is going to roll out just after a week it became the reality. BTW, we should get it sometime around early Feb to mid Feb, no reason to wait March, if yes how about wait Z6? lol

lollipop runs oke here but i cant wait for the nice app permission settings from marshmallow.

Marshmallow, like lollipop, can [email protected]#k off. Give me back 4.4 any day. Surely everyone must agree that the notifications/quick settings drawer is a step backwards. Why the hell do i need to swipe down twice to get to quick settings?
Also i cant stand everything with a white background, and considering the z5 compact auto brightness is broken out of the box just compounds the issue. Thank the devs, that that root and drm restore is apparently sorted so folks can do wtf they want with their own device because sony cant seem to make a decent job of it. Grrrr

Don't you know about the two finger trick? Use one finger for notifications, two for quick settings. Made my life a lot easier when I learnt about that trick!

Or you install Nova and have it come all the way down in one single swipe anywhere on the screen

Two finger trick? That would imply that i need to then use two hands to operate a phone i bought specifically for its small dimensions so i could do it with one. I have nova pro and it still does not override the double swipe to fully open the quick settings. In fact, when i first unlock the screen using the biometric sensor, I need to swipe down, then up and then down again to access the WiFi icon, as the quick settings only opens half way, WTF? And whats with the fat finger massive icons? I can fit all five of the icons I need in one row, yet there they are all over my screen.... I could go on!

• As usual good phone calls, volume is loud and clear enough, both in speaker and earpiece. Noise Reduction is not available.
• Vibration intensity is solid. Better than previous leaks.
• All connectivities work, BT, WiFi, 3G/H+ etc.
• 480X800 walls work on both Lockscreen and Homescreen. LOL.
• FM Radio works fine.
• The device will now vibrate+ring
• Swype 3.26.92 is present. It's a Beta one afaik. And have problems. 3.25 is way better still.
• 1080P videos play fine. But Video Recorder zooms in automatically while recording 1080P videos. Was it there from first, can't say!
• Camera works fine.
• Touch screen response is good. Scrolling is smooth. It's not fast as LPH, a bit more controlled, thus you need to swipe your finger fast to get the whole page if it's big. Elasticity effect is more prominent than LPH.
• Same email, GMail app (no multi touch).
• Face Unlock works. Thanks to a cool time wasting feature.
• Stock internet browser is as usual uber cool.
• Play Store works fine with downloading.
• GPS locked fine in GMaps. Yet to test with GPS Status. GPS locks work absolutely fine.
• If you're TW launcher user then at least they have reintroduced the loop option in both App drawer and Home screen. And yes, 3D effect from homescreen and app drawer is not there any more, it never was a deal breaker for me anyway.
•Deep sleep works fine as usual.
• Connection with my Desktop is working fine.
• Chrome Beta isn't FC'ing anymore.
••• What SHOULD be FIXED:
• Same pathetic incoming call UI! You gotta be kidding me, who would like a non slider dumb looking answer/reject option? I certainly don't.
• Call logs don't categorise numbers. So NO compact view of an entry. Poor.
Contacts tab is also removed from dialer!
• Other than the default fonts no font is synchronized in built in apps like Calender, Stock email app body, Main texts in Stock browser.
• Developer Option should be removed after doing the final and needed polishing.
• What kind of annoying lock screen is this? Not ICS, Not GB, what the hell?
• Impossible to edit a text in Stock Browser because of weird cursor movement.

***Conclusion***
Well I can't say it's the perfect release Samsung has done, but I think it's OK. There are some minor glitches here and there, but no major one. Still there are things need to be fixed, and I am sure next firmware upgrades will solve some of issues.
UK ICS Ofiicial should be coming soon:
In the meantime please do post your feedback and all the pros/cons, if you've found any. Please DO NOT post that battery life is bad, or some third party apps/games are not working because they are meaningless. ICS is just released and many brands are yet to configure their apps and games to make it ICS compatible.
There are many release, so please also mention which one you've flashed in the PDA/PHONE/CSC format.

I would never change my samsung galaxy s2 unless for the s3! Samsung is the best with hardware specs but I would never use any official rom cause samsung is the most terrible when it comes to software. I am on the rom on my signature and will wait for miui v4 to get ics

I think these 2 wierd changes have been done to get around Apple's slide to unlock and similar patents. These changes cropped up after Apple tried to enforce these patents against Samsung devices.
Don't sweat about developer option, they are required by someone using GSII for app development. Some of these were present in GB too but under Applications menu and not main settings menu.
I feel this release was a mistake or Samsung is doing some kind of UAT using 3-4 countries.First thing is the version LPQ which looks like it's a development build and not a final release build since those usually have [Year][Month][Build] format which should have made this build LCx and not LPQ.

Android 4.2.2 Update - Impressions & Reviews!

Yup, finally it's out. Though Sony promised us the update 'soon' enough, it wasn't too late either. The forums will be all over active regarding the update and it's time for us to post the reviews and impressions of the update. The following topics (not limited to) can be discussed:
1. Screen
2. Battery
3. Launcher (Even smoother then .307 if available)
4. Any camera changes (Quality wise and speed)
5. Wi-Fi coverage and stability etc.
I have update mine using the Spain FTF without wiping data and I'll post my detailed review soon. Till then and always, this thread is all yours!
My quick first find: Only the status bar is transparent and the dock isn't. Does my eyes have the problem or what? (Updated: It's just a wallpaper problem, reset it and it's all done).
Second: Camera does take 3 secs on an average to initialize, but the consecutive ones becomes noticeably faster. (Lock-screen camera opens a bit faster either)
Third: A nice animation like the screen gently fading off when screen turns off!
Fourth: Wi-Fi is as worse as before!

Oh, hope then my eyes are fine
it's great so far. almost to the point that I don't need a custom rom. The transparent nav bad is cool, while everything else on the whole is a lot smoother. For someone who frequently listen to music like me, the new lockscreen widget is a godsend!
P.S: are you the same prasad on NBR?

Hope you liked the update! My dock is not transparent though and am going for a full wipe now.
It's not me I hope
not sure if its a placebo , but I just unlocked my bootloader backing up TA and installed the CM10.1 and found the color calibration of the screen is really good with CM10 and now I relocked BL to the official 4.2.2 and screen colors are a bit light compared to CM10... anyone else observed this?
Despite system that is only getting better and smoother, some considerations about UI:
1 - The union between the lower action bar with shortcut bar, have a slightly gap, and transparency of lower action bar and transparency with glass of shortcut it's not the same, doesn't fit.
The glass effect os shortcuts is really strange, could be much better.

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2 - I really have to say something? It's really strange.
3 - this white color and size, including spaces between shortcuts, it's all just strange.
UI could be more (can't remember the world) "one color", i.e. If the "theme" is to be black, than uses all color "as black as possible", not include a white stripe somehow in the middle of the UI.
Camera improves are great, but in intelligent auto is changing too fast os modes, the camera find the type os picture that I want to take but in a blink it reads again a slightly move that I do and changes to another SCN, like soft skin (?).
Wi-Fi still worst than ever.
Battery is OK, not so much improves, and is consuming more in standby so, in other words, worst than last 4.1.2 (253).

My short review on Official Stock v4.2.2 - 10.3.A.0.423 firmware. I use ftf one as Malaysia not receiving update prompt yet.
Finally! Now it as smooth as my sister ZL which base on same firmware as well.
The smoothness is back, not like previous leak .407 which not so smooth.
Thanks Sony remain .253 screen panel color tune. Current .423 firmware color tune is same awesome.
Thanks Sony for the nice look semi transparent status bar and notification bar.
Camera quality is back! Superior Auto is working fine!
Too dark area, is better use SCN - Night Portrait.
Camera quality is outstanding, by far the best I ever seen

Change DPI without root

So today someone I work with from SlimRoms found you can quickly change the dpi of any device running 4.4.2 (not sure if it's possible before that).
I'd post this in Android General, but I don't want to step on his feet, so I'm just posting it here for you guys. (I really hate large text/icons/anything on Android since I'm short sighted)
home screen:

}
app drawer:
Obviously I take no responsibility for any issues it causes since it's a purely aosp implementation. I was surprised it was even in user builds.
so. how to do it:
Code:
adb shell wm density <number> # I used 200
or with a terminal emulator (you need root for this [try without to see why you need root]):
Code:
su -c 'wm density <number>'
if you want to go back to the default, do
Code:
wm density reset
The default density is 240 for reference. Lowering the number makes the icons smaller.
Enjoy, and credit to @gmillz from Slimroms for finding this

No, my message wasn't exactly in par with that, because I'm thinking Motorola would've made it wisely to identify carrier name immediately when you start using your phone, sure dragging the notification bar takes time. My old Nokia 1100 had similar fashion carrier name in the left section, and battery bars in right, so I must say its fair enough by them to follow the General cellular phone screen layout guidelines.

Turbo Root Update

Are you stuck at work and want to know if we have root? Are you away from a computer? Did you just get in a car wreck and are laying there, taking your final breath, with only your phone in your hand, wondering, "Do we have root?" Then this is the app for you.
I was messing around with Google's new Material Design standards I decided to throw this together. It'll be updated the moment a root method is discovered.
Another note: this will only work only Droid Turbos.. I can add other models to the list upon request, however, I didn't make the app responsive, so it only looks right on 2560x1440 screens.
Enjoy.
EDIT: This will now work on ALL devices!
EDIT_2: I realized just now that I chose the same material design color as SuperSU and did the same icon design completely by accident. No correlation there, just sheer happenstance.
FINAL EDIT: A root method has been discovered and will be release shortly. The latest update of the app will point you to the root video so you can root whenever ad wherever. Thank you all for downloading!
Neat little app haha. Hopefully we wont need it for long!
However I must say this is in the wrong section of the forum, the more appropriate location would be -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/themes-apps
Does it push a notification when the device gets rooted? Or will it just replace my xda refreshes with opening the app every 5 minutes?

I agree. I would have put it there, but no one will see it cause they are checking here for root. Thus the post in general.

Push notifications would be an awesome thing to have!

I can add an update for it. I don't have a subscription to any push services currently so I'd to re-up for that.
I'll call it, the are-we-there-yet? App
Why not make it so others can keep tabs on it, too? I have an LG G3 and would like to know when the Turbo gets root.

More like "Are we rooted yet?" Makes more sense

I was limiting it because I didn't want a bunch of phones with 1920x1080 resolution wondering what the deal was cause I didn't make it responsive, but I think I will just update it. You convinced me.
Man, this is great... Genius. I check these threads lately about once or twice an hour, just waiting on good news. When I open a new tab, Chrome goes, "Oh, lemme guess... XDA Turbo General?" This is a time saver. Thank you, sir.

You're exactly the person I made it for! You are welcome!
Sad your effort cannot be easily installed on older moto's. We would not care about a skewed image of an unlock graphic!! Would not the ultra/Maxx be an easy one?
But what do I know about generating apk's.
Great idea anyway!!

At the office now, but when I get off tonight, I will be opening it to other devices.
The graphics won't be skewed, but rather they will be blown up. I will probably write in a line to scale the graphics accordingly on smaller res phones when I update it this evening. :good:
Kinda curious why you chose Lua and Corona.

Kinda curious why you are decompiling my apk.
Been bouncing around trying some different things. Noted that the Corona SDK used lua-- a language I had previously used in the form of eLua to program microcontrollers. However, 80% of the code draws off of Corona's predefined functions which makes it feel like a "copy and paste fest". I also remember reading that a lot of WoW addons were coded in lua (easily embed-able) which spiked my curiousity. I'll have to say though, it is incredibly simple to use.

I decompiled it because I was curious.
Doesn't everyone do that?
Check out NativeScript when you get a chance.

Actually I've noticed a few online games now have used lua in encrypted game files (to prevent hackings and game mods, but lets face it someone is going to crack it at some point) not just add-ons.
Just wondering, how does it work? Do you just monitor XDA for "root" threads?

Google picking up a feature from EMUI in upcoming Nougat 7.1 release

Google plans to introduce a new gesture to open the notification shade using the fingerprint in Android 7.1 release
You’ll be able to swipe down your finger on the fingerprint sensor to pull down the notification shade, and swipe up to close it.
Devices like those made by Huawei or its brand Honor has this feature implemented already. But it's interesting that Google will be picking it up as a Nougat feature.
In the animation, we can see that it works. Just swipe down on the scanner, and your notification tray will descend.

Like Apple now learning from Android a lot, different Androids learn from each other as well.
But I'm never a gesture person... I don't use gestures at all..

I agree, it is a feature that all should adapt, makes life much easier with single hand handling..
funny, I have an honor 8, but can't seem to activate this feature. Is there any settings to it? or is mine faulty

I dont have Honor 8. I use it in my 5X.
I dont see any setting to enable that in my 5X.
Swiping up, down, left and right works well with any fingerprint and is not restricted to the registered fingerprint.
Annoying feature which makes me swipe it down by mistake when touching the sensor. Feature off at all times.
Wow. I hope to see this in AOSP based ROMs soon.

Hmm I'm pretty sure that the feature is also on honour 8. Anyone else know how to make it work?

If you don't see it in Settings, then it is not present in EMUI of Honor 8.
