Are the EMUI push notification issues still present? - Honor 7 General

Hi I am really tempted to get this phone but one drawback seems to be the EMUI. I Know the launcher can be changed and I actually like the look of all the menu's but one thing thats been constantly coming up is the fact that the push notifications from apps like whatsapp, gmail and messenger do not work as the apps are killed from task manager when the phone is off for a bit.. This seems like a huge issue considering that normally I can still get notifications after killing apps from the recents menu
I was hoping to hear from those that have the device on whether this is still a problem and if there are any workarounds to it?

On my B170 software this issue is gone. B121, B130, B140 I didn't receive snapchat and whatsapp notifications

Still there on 6.0 MM beta and EMUI 4.0

Thats slightly annoying I was hoping the marshmallow update would change that. If I may ask, how bad is it with daily use. I've read that swiping apps down on the recent menu locks them and stops this happening. Has this been the case for you or have you found another way to get around this?
Sorry for all the questions, Just want to make sure I get a solid phone as I normally like to get a couple years use out of a phone before upgrading

I found a way around it, you need root though.
If you move the effected app from data/app to system/app and reboot the app will start as a service which means it remains in the background and push service works as it should, does not effect battery life.

I’m not sure, but you may have lost the capability to be able to update in the future if you have made this changes to the system.

Just in case anyone is interested while browsing around picking up information on the device I came across this tweet which seems like they are aware of the issue and may potentially fix it on the final MM release but I'm not too hopeful considering that this issue seems to span multiple devices including the recently released Hauwei Mate 8.

I am sure that is not the case as i had this setup on B173 and updated to B188, from B321 to B325 to B326.
All of which were OTA without any problems.
In any case you could just remove the apps from system/app and have it back to what is was anyway.
This fixed the push problem for whatsapp, disa, telegram and fixed problem for push of TypeApp mail client.

But you are all talking about Chinese versions? Because I don't experience such thing on my PLK-L01 (since the b170 update)

On either version of the phone (I have both) you can set the phone to stop apps from going to sleep so you always get notifications. It's very configurable. The best I've seen on a phone.

@AMoosa
where do you can get more hands to use all the phones you owned?

for me EMUI is not bad at all.
before buying the phone, i was planning to root it and change EMUI ....
But after testing it. no more need for rooting. it pleased me.

How to stop apps from going to sleep on Mate 8?

How can you set the phone to stop apps from going to sleep so you always get notifications? I notice that I have android wear Huawei Watch and I get the notifications very late. I had another phone Note 5 with this watch and there were no problems.

Apps are un-muting themselves automatically

Hi there,
I'm using LG W100 for about two weeks. Generally Android Wear is preety good however there's a little anoying bug. I can't really tell if that's actually a bug or it has been made that way on purpose but it's pissing me off. If I add any app to mute list notifications from the app don't show up on the watch. Good - but whenever I open such app on the watch manually it instantly disappears from muted list. If someone made it on purpose then I believe that he wanted to make easier for dummies to un-mute app if they muted them accidently, but this is ridicoulus. Why? Only because once a week I'd like to manually open Weather app on watch to check forecast doesn't mean I want to be spamed with weather notifications every god damn 15 minutes afer doing that. Then when new notifications comes I have to mute it again and the game starts all over after I open weather AGAIN on watch. Weather is just an example of course, it happens with all wear apps.
Can someone please tell me if it's a bug or on purpose and how can I change that stupid behavior?

When you refer to mute, I am assuming you are doing that on the watch. If so, I believe this is the intended behavior and cannot be changed.
That said, have you tried blocking the notifications from the Wear app on the phone?

I don't know if it was working this way by design or what but after upgrading watch to 6.0 problem dissapeared. Apps are NOT un-muting themselves when opened on watch.

Mate 8 shuts off off voice-apps overnight

Hello, fine sirs.
I am curious on whether or not you have experienced the issue of calling apps such as Whatsapp or Kakao Talk shutting down after a few hours of use?
I like to sleep with the app still on, but after say 3-5 hours it shuts off automatically.
The apps are white-listed and battery is set to Performance. Neither of these options seem to help.
I don't have any other battery-managment apps installed which may shut down my battery consuming apps.
Any ideas?
Edit: I realize now this question may belong to Troubleshooting subforum. =/ But until deleted, I'll keep an eye here! Cheers.

Hi, that's some very specific information you've acquired! My version is NXT-L29C432B170, therefore one of the ones you've listed as should be working.
Still, if I don't access my phone after 3-4 hours as to "tell" it I still use the voice program, it closes. Sadly.

Then you have to try the newest L29C636B180 rom... You can install very easy with dload method(without root or unlocked bootloader) but you have to know that you will loose OTA update, online themes and 3g - 4g icons only with data closed (when you activate data the icons working perfectly)... But whenever new update for your version(C432) show up you can install it back with dload method and everything will work again (OTA THEMES...)
I have B180 almost a month and everything working great (my version is C636) and notifications... Unless you will have to wait at end of May for B321 to come as update to Europe version (C432) Now only Chinese AL10 has get it....
It's critical to know that every time you update you will have to restore the phone (format) to make sure that everything is set up for andand with new version
I have the L29C636B180 update.
I will note: Notifications for applications are coming more frequently now.
I also note [on the bad side]: Two of my essential apps that rely on automation & wake locks are not functioning properly.
a) Applications are in Battery Manager → Protected Apps
b) Applications are 'Allowed' in → Ignore Battery Optimizations
c) Battery Power Plan: Performance
My 2 applications which relies on timers and wake locks to enable/disable certain features have noted. Their applications are being killed & restarted despite being "whitelisted". They are:
a) Silence Premium
b) Situations
I have a Oneplus One on Marshmallow 6 and this does not happen. What is wrong with Huawei? What is wrong with EMUI. I should not have decided to buy a piece of hardware with software from PROC.
Is someone @huawei actually trying to reach out and fix issues??

I don't know if you are on MM yet but I noticed that there is a thing under App's (on MM) in settings where you can set what apps draw over e.g.. facebook chat bubbles. I think if you enable your apps that you want notifying you on lock-screen to draw over mode then it may show on lock-screen. Its working so far for my weather updates from google app... I could be entirely wrong and I am using a fairly wonky build of MM but I just thought I would offer my insight Best of luck bud.

I am not on marshmallow as yet waiting for the Ota
I'm sure MM will fix that for you bud!
I do know the struggle, waiting on OTA's for us in New Zealand is painful. On top of the fact that before I went MM I wasn't getting notifications at all, calls missed cause it wasn't bringing the call screen up...all sorts of havoc.
Worst comes to worst you could try factory restore, then do the theme thing that other guy mentioned. You should technically have a default, it's weird you are missing it.

My Zuk Z2 Pro experience

Hi all!
I recently received my Z2 Pro (128gb) from Coolicool the other day and I though I would let you know of my experience.
It came with the 'international firmware' on it preventing the use of OTA and Uhealth so like many others I proceeded to flash it with stock Chinese firmware.
Following this guide - ahh...as a new user it seems I can't yet post links. But I would like to thank m_atze for his time in writing it!
METHOD 2!!
At first I kept getting saraha errors but moving the firmware to a short folder on my laptops main drive solved this error (ie. c:\\zuk\.....)
Flashing went ahead without a single problem
Changed the language to english and proceeded to uninstall chinese apps and install the ones I wanted.
There was then the latest OTA which didn't require a VPN
Other than there being a few mis-translations the phone seems very fast and stable (I am coming from a Galaxy S4)
A day of standard use from me left me with over 50% battery compared to the <10% I would have from the i9505
Overall very happy with my purchase and looking forward to an official full english android 7 firmware release!
I do seem to be having issues with push notifications and widget updates. I'm sure that will be fixed soon enough.

Hou can I make Android 6.0's doze feature not suck that much?

Hi,
I really don't understand how the doze system works on android marshmallow. I mean, it kills apps that I need, and leaves on apps that I need killed. I have done all the battery optimization exceptions from settings->apps, I have excluded and included in the keep alive after screen lock option in battery manager, nothing is working how it should be.
I want apps like Tasker and Automate It to work when i close the screen, but even if I exclude them from all things that could kill them, they work for only about 2 minutes and then bye bye.
Is there a setting I missed, or maybe an app that keeps them alive, or maybe some root underground terminal emulator magic I can do to fix this issue?
Thanks in advance.

It's not Doze that sucks so much, it's EMUI's power management. It's overly aggressive in killing apps.

You're probably right, even though they fixed this in EMUI 5.0, but I don't like Nougat because it has an annoying bug, so maybe there's a fix to this for MM. I'll try to write to them too.

What annoying bug do you mean? I find N better than MM in almost every way. And now with B380 battery usage is amazing.

At random times, my screen won't turn on when I unlock it. I can hear the unlock sound, receive phone calls and probably use all other phone functions, but my screen stays black. I have to force-restart the phone in order for the screen to work again. It probably is a problem with my phone, but I'm too lazy to send it to warranty.
