Out of Service Network most of the time after flashing custom ROM - Networking

I hope I am posting in the right section.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 (I9505) and it was crashing on the stock ROM so I flashed the Imperium LL Rom v11.0. The problem I am having is my phone reporting no network signal or "Out of service". But not always. After a reboot I usually have network signal. After locking and unlocking the phone I never have. The signal usually comes within a few minutes. When my phone is reporting "Out of service" I cannot make calls but I can still receive calls. And after the received call has terminated I can still not make calls. After a few minutes the network signal icon comes and I can make calls. Until I lock my phone because it gets lost everytime.
Some info:
1. I was on a rooted Stock 4.2.2 before I flashed the Imperium LL Rom.
2. The IMEI seems to have changed. I never took note of it before flashing, so it might have always been different but the IMEI reported by the phone is different from the IMEI on the sticker underneath the phone battery. I tried the Xposed IMEI changer but the problem still happens so this may be unrelated.
3. While searching I found it could be an invalid Modem driver. In the settings the Baseband version is I9505XXUBMEA so I tried flashing the driver for that version using ODIN. No change.
4. I tried via Recovery to flash Slim80 Kernel Cleaning Script v1.9 and then the Imperium Kernel v3.3 but no change.
I did a factory wipe before flashing the firmware.
Any help or suggestions please?
Thanks!

I have actually solved this. What I had tried before was flashing the modem with the same Baseband I had previously ie: I9505XXUBMEA thinking that there were specific versions which needed specific drivers. Upon reading more I found out that newer versions of the modem should be installed and that XX was a carrier code and the last 2 letters are how recent the driver is. So I tried the latest modem (XXUHOE2) I could find similar to the Imperium Build which is XXUHOJ2 and it seems to be working. My phone retains the network signal when put to sleep.
The fact the IMEI changed is weird and I don't know if it makes a difference. Maybe it was always like this..but it is strange that it is different to the one on the sticker. The format is correct because only the last 4 digits differ.
Anyway I hope this info helps someone with similar problems.

How can I mark the title for this as [Solved]? I can't find any way.

Making and receiving calls not possible

Hi there,
after updating to official Froyo JPO/JPP/JP3 my radio doesn't work no more:
It shows signal after entering the SIM code
I can't make a call as it doesn't seem to connect to the network, although it shows network coverage.
I can't receive calls as well (tested with a landline).
The IMEI is still there and correct.
Product Code is I9000HKDDBT
Restoring old backups via Nandroid doesn't help
I wonder, what could be the reason. Reflashing different ROMs doesn't help (tried with JF3, JPO official, DocRom v8, ...). Supposing it could have something to do with /efs, I already restored my /efs folder to an earlier state, but it didn't work either. Could anyone tell me the correct permissions, owners and groups of the files within /efs? Or is it something totally different?
Thanks for your help!
Noone here that knows something about that?
I have the same problem i think. I can download apps from the market but can't recieve or make texts or calls.
can anyone help?
Same issue here.
Phone shows signal but if you show the status screen it only shows emergency call only.
Signal showing, according to the Debug it is showing 7 antenas nearby, also the network lock code is off for every lock, so i dont know...
is a Tmobile originally branded but flashed with darkys rom. PReviously was unlocked using the one click method,
does you phone display a baseband?
I had a jp3 in today that had no baseband
just flashed it using odin with jpy and it worked fine.
is a Tmobile originally branded but flashed with darkys rom. PReviously was unlocked using the one click method,
If it worked before that install then go back to the original works then you know where the problem is .
jje
Me too, Flash the JPY or other firmware from uk orange firmware, has band and signal covered, but only emergency calls only at some places, specially at home.
hope someone can solve this problem

I9505 works only on 2G, no 3G, no 4G

Hi all.
I'm asking for your help in solving my S4 (I9505 jfltexx) problem: it's working only in 2G mode, no 3G, no 4G.
This suddenly started 15 days after the last flash, when I installed the Imperium ROM (ver 10.1) with the Philz Recovery 6.59.
So, I begun searching, googling, following procedures, flashing modems, roms, but I can't solve my problem.
My IMEI is OK, the SIM works in another phone, with a different operator SIM my S4 behaves the same, so is definitely a phone issue.
The *#0011# Service Mode shows the LTE and UMTS frequencies and cells IDs and that, I think, means that the hardware is working and that the phone has a software issue.
Tried Imperium 11.0, LolliROM 6.0, Resurrection 5.5.8, Cyanogen 12.1, brand and no brand Stock (all Lollipop ROMs), different modems.
I didn't downgrade because throughout my readings (a lot) about this issue, no one solved the problem this way.
Tryed this procedure
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/help/i9505-doesnt-3g-t2998527
with no success.
I forced the phone in WCDMA mode and, using the QPST and QXDM, I observed the event log.
This IMHO is the interesting part:
EVENT_WCDMA_L1_STATE----->L1M_FACH
EVENT_RRC_MESSAGE_SENT--->Logical Chan: UL CCCH Signal Msg Type: RRC_CONNECTION_REQUEST_MSG
EVENT_WCDMA_RRC_STATE---->Previous state: Disconnected, New state: Connecting
EVENT_WCDMA_PRACH-------->RF Tx Power: 24, Number of preambles: 10, AICH Status: No ACK
[this last event repeated several times until]
EVENT_WCDMA_L1_STATE----->L1M_IDLE
EVENT_WCDMA_RRC_STATE---->Previous state: Connecting, New state: Disconnected
A lot of people, considering just this forum, complains about this problem but I was not able to found a working solution.
I hope someone can help me because I don't have any further ideas or clues.
Anyway, thanks in advance.
New attemps made:
downgrade to 4.4.2, flash of various Kitkat modems, new upgrade to Lollipop, deep clean (here in italian http://bit.ly/1MRu7lk).
When I tried to restore an NVM backup, previously made by QPST, the procedure failed at 5% due to "Received an invalid command from the phone".
In this way, I completely lost the baseband functionality and the IMEI, without being able to restore them even with an EFS backup, made by Philz recovery.
I re-tried this procedure http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/help/i9505-doesnt-3g-t2998527 and the SRS tool. The only way to have back IMEI and baseband has been to go in a shop where the guy used a Z3X box but, again, without restoring 3G-4G.
I definitely ran out of options now.
same error here!
any ideia?

Hi, I'm having the same problem with my i9515. But, I think that my case is that this phone was bought in Poland and I live in Brasil, so, maybe is not the same frequencies, because I've tested a lot of things and nothing made my 3g or 4g works.
=/
Sorry, I gave up: as said, even with a Z3X box it was impossible to repair the phone and I stopped to look for answers.
=(
I have the same problem here. Everything works, wifi, network, but the Mobile Data is on gsm speeds. I think i bought it broken like this (2nd hand) as i tried various rom and kernel combinations with no luck.
The same happened to me, after updating the baseband. it's not a hardware problem

GT-i9507 doesn't get any signal

Hello
I owned/own a GT-i9505 which had recently gotten a board failure. The device would constantly turn off, and hitting it used to temporarily fix it, but it ended up getting so bad the phone wouldn't work at all. In response to this, I pulled a old smashed S4 out of my draw, and assumed it was also an i9505 (The board on this one says i9505 too), and replaced my old board with it. Upon booting, I discovered it was actually an i9507, a variant with what I assume only more advanced LTE capabilities. I thought this was cool, but upon the phone starting, I have no service. This is on official Optus firmware with nothing changed at this point. My services sometimes changes from the cross to the empty signal indicator. I've now tried installing CM13 on it to see whether maybe it was a rom specific thing, but alas I have no service still.
Any help would be appreciated

Is the phone running the latest stock rom? Imei is properly displayed from the dialler? What is the model number in download mode?
I am currently downloading the latest stock rom, but it was running stock kitkat before I flashed CM13. The IMEI correctly displays
Edit out your imei, It's not a good idea to post your imei anywhere on the Internet.
Let us know if the stock ROM solves the issue.

IMEI Null & Baseband Version unknown

Hello everyone, it's the first time starting a thread and asking questions in Grand 2 Q&A section.
I am running a unmodified Motion ROM V17.0 on my Grand 2 SM-G7105. The Rom has been operated for 2 months and I didn't faced any sort of problems.
Unfortunately, yesterday when I turned on the device, it gives me a wrong date and time. Just when I am checking what caused this problem, I found NO mobile singal and Wifi singal! I can't make calls, receiving SMS and surf the net. The IMEI number is Null and Baseband version turns unknown! I thought something must have been corrupted and I wiped the cache, dalvik cache and data in TWRP recovery. When the phone booted up again, Start up wizard popup and there's many FCs. I reinstalled the Motion ROM with full wipe in TWRP. The phone boots up but however, it cannot recognize the SIM card. The baseband version and IMEI are still 'unknown' in the Settings App. The phone will lag to death if I didn't turned on the Airplane Mode. The phone has random reboots and cannot be shut down. But the Wifi worked now. I think the mobile singal problem still persistent is because of the IMEI and baseband unknown...
I want to repair my phone and make things works again like before. Is there any ways to restore the IMEI and Baseband version? I've seen a few articles about this and they mentioned EFS folder is damaged. I wanted to flash a stock rom via Odin but no computer is with me now.
Please help me!
Any help is highly appreciated! Thank you!

[SOLVED] IMEI and baseband unknown - unrooted device

Hi all,
My SM-G935F is not rooted and it has been bought network unlocked.
Yesterday I was browsing normally in 4G, the device became very slow and suddenly a message popped up "please insert SIM card". I have done the normal procedures of restarting and wiping cache partition which did not solve the problem.
In the meantime, I have tried the SIM on another device and it has worked properly.
I've noticed that the fields IMEI and IMEI DV are displayed as "Unknown".
I have searched for solutions but, because my phone is not rooted I'm not sure whether it applies to my case. Please note that I've made no change that could cause this issue, it has simply happened.
What could be causing this?
Try to reinstall the stock via odin. Maybe that will solve your problem. If not, it may be a hardware problem.

Thanks. I have installed latest firmware via ODIN successfully. However it did not solve the problem.
Baseband is also displayed as unknown.
If it is an hardware issue,is it repairable?

99% of the time, its a mobo replacement for this issue if it ends up being hardware related, and if a mobo replacement doesnt fix your issue, not much else will. Might as well strap it to a missile if a mobo swap doesnt fix it
SOLVED
Right, the problem has been solved for now.
I have taken multiple steps which have got me confused TBH, but I will try to recall them in detail:
(please note that before these steps I have attempted to flash latest firmware G935FXXS7ETA4 at least 3 times without CSC home before rooting)
1. I have rooted with CF Auto Root hero2lte
2. I have copied EFS, radio and nv_data.bin to a safe location in my PC.
3. Used latest TWRP flash.
4. Flashed latest firmware G935FXXS7ETA4 with Home CSC and that did not work.
5. Flashed latest firmware G935FXXS7ETA4 CSC only and after restarting a message popped up informing that the single SIM mode had been switched to DUAL SIM mode, and network signal was back on.
6. I have installed the app "phone info" which now indicates baseband version and original IMEI. Happy days!
Notes:
On the phone info app I get the following information displayed
Device Type:
hero2lite
Product Name:
hero2ltexx
Is it possible to change this back to the original name?
UPDATE
UPDATE
- Sometimes it switches from 4G to 3G ("E" symbol). 4G comes back on if I restart on safe mode.
- It disconnects from the network randomly, then it comes back on.
- Everything else works perfectly fine.
This is clearly an intermittent issue, could it be the modem hardware failing?
