Unable to mount /data and /cache - Zenfone 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys. I'm in trouble. Couple days ago, my cousin bricked Zenfone 5. I don't have an idea what he did, but phone is on bootloop. I tried the standard method: went into TWRP recovery and flashed custom ROM, but no luck. Then I tried wiping everything and flashing ROM again, but while wiping, I got some errors:
Code:
E:Unable to mount '/cache'
E:Unable to mount '/data'
E:Unable to mount storage
So, I can't wipe my device to install new ROM. Can anybody help me? Thanks in advance.

What do you mean? I know how to flash TWRP. Flash the tar file through the AP section in odin? Can I flash it with the img file? Always did it with the tar file, never had this problem....I will check the TWRP installation guide again...
Thanks...
TWRP couldn't read my internal storage....what could have caused this? I have a lot of experience with bricked phones. I managed to flash the stock rom but yeah....I wanna flash a rom you know...
Grts

TWRP error 'E: unable to load '/twre/language/en-US.xml' help me find the right solut

Hi,
Oneplus 2, Stock Rom, rooted, SU TWRP,
Just rooted it and flashed TWRP recently
When I boot into TWRP and try wiping/backing up I get this:
'E: unable to load '/twre/language/en-US.xml'
Failed to mount '/cache' (Invalid Argument)
The above line is repeated 5 times
Backups and restores work ok even though they give me this error.
Could it be a corrupted Dalvic Cache File system?
I've searched on here, but nothing definitive. Also Google yields conflicting results (repair System - wipe Davlic cache etc etc)
Does anyone know why its happening, and what is the best way to proceed?
I got the 'E: unable to load '/twre/language/en-US.xml' as well,
but saw no ill effects. It may just be an error in TWRP.
But the "Failed to mount '/cache' (Invalid Argument)" I haven't seen.
Thanks for that - I fixed the "Unable to mount cache" bit by wiping the cache
(I previously tried wiping the Dalvic cache but I just got an error saying it couldn't mount it.

Accidentally completely wiped my phone - can mount internal storage (TWRP)

I just accidentally wiped my internal storage, now TWRP can't see it or mount it? In the process, I wiped my external SD too (I swear, I'm not a NoOb).....
I've tried installing some ROMs via TWRP, but it errors out and say's: Failed to mount '/data' (invalid argument).
HELP?
[UPDATE]
Finally got a ROM to install....

99% of the time that's how things go ?. As long as you can into the bootloader there's a next step.
Glad you're good to go
Missed your post on my earlier run through. I would of suggested formatting data from within twrp. This is destructive in that it wipes both data and internal storage, but should resolve your issue.

[Solved] Accidentally Deleted Cache Partition

Hi Everyone,
I wanted to post this to help others that may encounter the same issue I just did.
I was running OOS 4.5.14 with Magisk 16.0 (so rooted and unlocked bootloader) and was trying to flash twrp-3.2.1-0-universal-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img using fastboot and these directions (https://www.techrrival.com/flash-recovery-adb-fastboot/) so I could then upgrade to the latest OOS (https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/guide-upgrade-nougat-rooted-encrypted-t3734779) without a boot loop, as I have previously experienced with other directions.
Everything seemed fine and dandy, but when I pulled up TWRP Codeworkx, which was successfully installed, then rebooted to the system, I was stuck in a bootloop. I went back to TWRP, and when I put in my pin it said it cannot mount the cache partition because it does not exist. However, when I am in TWRP and go all the way back to "/" I do see a "cache" folder.
So, what I did was I tried wiping cache and Dalvick it said it was successful. Here was the output:
Failed to mount '/cache' (Invalid argument)
Updating partition details...
Failed to mount '/cache' (Invalid argument)
...done
Full SELinux support is present.
Data successfully decrypted
Updating partition details...
Failed to mount '/cache' (Invalid argument)
...done
Wiping Dalvick Cache Directories
Cleaned: /data/dalvick-cache...
-- Dalvick Cache Directories Wipe Complete!
Formatting Cache using make_ext4fs...
Updating partition details...
...done
I think when the last few lines somehow fixed it, but I am not sure to be honest. Things seem to be working fine now. :victory:

twrp restore problem

Failed to mount '/system' (Invalid argument)
Data successfully decrypted, new block device: '/dev/block/dm-0'
Updating partition details...
Anyone know how to fix this error in twrp? I tried flashing a new kernel and it bootlooped. Now when I try to restore my backup I'm getting this error.
