WANTED: Date Calculator app for Android Wear - Wear OS Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't have a smartwatch yet, but anticipate getting one soon (birthday coming up). At work, I deal with some grocery items and I have to compute sell by dates on a regular basis. Example: Today's date + 15 days from now = ??
Is there an Android Wear app that will take care of this?
Thank you.

Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie Release Date, News And Rumours

Android 5.0 release date
Google has announced that its next developer conference - Google IO - will take place from May 15 to May 17 2013, a month earlier than 2012's June dates. Given that Google announced Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at 2012's IO conference, it's not unreasonable to expect to see Android 5.0 at this year's event On 31 January, a Google IO showing of Android 5.0 looked more likely when screengrabs of a Qualcomm roadmap were leaked, showing Android 5.0 as breaking cover between April and June 2013.
Android 5.0 phones
Rumours of a new Nexus handset started trickling in during the third quarter of 2012, as we reported on 1 October 2012. There was speculation that this phone would be sporting Key Lime Pie, but sources who spoke to AndroidAndMe correctly claimed that the handset, which turned out to be the Google Nexus 4 would be running Android Jelly Bean.
While the Nexus 4 didn't appear with a helping of Key Lime Pie, speculation that we reported on 21 January 2013 suggests that the Motorola X Phone is the Android 5.0-toting handset that will be revealed at Google IO. According to a post on the DroidForums website, the phone will also feature a virtually bezel-free, edge-to-edge, 5-inch display.
The same leaked Qualcomm documents cited above also made mention of a two new Snapdragon devices, one of which will be, unsurprisingly, a new Nexus phone.
Android 5.0 features
For 24 hours, it seemed as though the first kinda, sorta confirmed feature for Android 5.0 was a Google Now widget, which briefly appeared in a screenshot on the company's support forum before being taken down. As it was so hurriedly pulled, many people assumed it was slated for the big five-o and accidentally revealed early.
As it happened, the following day, on 13 February 2013, the Google Now widget rolled out to Jelly Bean.
So while we wait on Key Lime Pie features to be revealed and scour the web for more Android 5.0 news, TechRadar writer Gary Cutlack has been thinking about what we want to see in Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. Hopefully the new mobile OS will feature some of these things...
Performance Profiles
It's bit of a fuss managing your mobile before bed time. Switching off the sound, turning off data, activating airplane mode and so on, so what Android 5.0 really needs is a simple way of managing performance, and therefore power use, automatically.
We've been given a taste of this with Blocking Mode in Samsung's Jelly Bean update on the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Note 2 but we'd like to see the functionality expanded.
Something like a Gaming mode for max power delivery, an Overnight low-power state for slumbering on minimal power and maybe a Reading mode for no bothersome data connections and a super-low backlight.
Some hardware makers put their own little automated tools in, such as the excellent Smart Actions found within Motorola's RAZR interface, but it'd be great to see Google give us a simple way to manage states.
Another little power strip style widget for phone performance profiles would be an easy way to do it.
Better multiple device support
Google already does quite a good job of supporting serious Android nerds who own several phones and tablets, but there are some holes in its coverage that are rather frustrating.
Take the Videos app which manages your film downloads through the Play Store. Start watching a film on one Android device and you're limited to resuming your film session on that same unit, making it impossible to switch from phone to tablet mid-film.
You can switch between phone and web site players to resume watching, but surely Google ought to understand its fans often have a couple of phones and tabs on the go and fix this for Android Key Lime Pie?
Enhanced social network support
Android doesn't really do much for social network users out of the box, with most of the fancy social widgets and features coming from the hardware makers through their own custom skins.
Sony integrates Facebook brilliantly in its phones, and even LG makes a great social network aggregator widget that incorporates Facebook and Twitter - so why are there no cool aggregator apps as part of the standard Android setup?
Yes, Google does a great job of pushing Google+, but, no offence, there are many other more widely used networks that ought to be a little better "baked in" to Android.
Line-drawing keyboard options
Another area where the manufacturers have taken a big leap ahead of Google is in integrating clever alternate text entry options in their keyboards. HTC and Sony both offer their own takes on the Swype style of line-drawing text input, which is a nice option to have for getting your words onto a telephone. Get it into Android 5.0 and give us the choice.
A video chat app
How odd is it that Google's put a front-facing camera on the Nexus 7 and most hardware manufacturers do the same on their phones and tablets, yet most ship without any form of common video chat app?
You have to download Skype and hope it works, or find some other downloadable app solution. Why isn't there a Google Live See My Face Chat app of some sort as part of Android? Is it because we're too ugly? Is that what you're saying, Google?
Multi-select in the contacts
The Android contacts section is pretty useful, but it could be managed a little better. What if you have the idea of emailing or texting a handful of your friends? The way that's currently done is by emailing one, then adding the rest individually. Some sort of checkbox system that let users scroll through names and create a mailing list on the fly through the contacts listing in Android Key Lime Pie would make this much easier.
Cross-device SMS sync
If you're a constant SIM swapper with more than one phone on the go, chances are you've lost track of your text messages at some point. Google stores these on the phone rather than the SIM card, so it'd be nice if our texts could be either backed up to the SIM, the SD card, or beamed up to the magical invisible cloud of data, for easy and consistent access across multiple devices.
A "Never Update" option
This would annoy developers so is unlikely to happen, but it'd be nice if we could refuse app updates permanently in Android 5.0, just in case we'd rather stick with a current version of a tool than be forced to upgrade.
Sure, you can set apps to manual update and then just ignore the update prompt forever, but it'd be nice to know we can keep a favoured version of an app without accidentally updating it. Some of us are still using the beta Times app, for example, which has given free access for a year.
App preview/freebie codes
Something Apple's been doing for ages and ages is using a promo code system to distribute free or review versions of apps. It even makes doing little competitions to drum up publicity for apps much easier, so why's there no similar scheme for Android?
It might encourage developers to stop going down the ad-covered/freemium route if they could charge for an app but still give it away to friends and fans through a promo code system.
Final whinges and requests...
It's be nice to be able to sort the Settings screen by alphabetical order, too, or by most commonly used or personal preference, as Android's so packed with a huge list of options these days it's a big old list to scroll through and pick out what you need.
Plus could we have a percentage count for the battery in the Notifications bar for Android 5.0? Just so we know a bit more info than the vague emptying battery icon.

Most of the gapps i ever installed didnt, but yes on a sense rom you can find it and maybe an official ICS or JB that is meant for a certain phone. So i should have reworded that. You are correct though.

[Q] Google Play Visibility

About 18 months ago, I released an app called SureFire Alarm Clock - with no advertising or marketing to speak of, it has slowly increased in the search for "alarm clock" from around the 340th app to around the 35th app.
I have just released a new app called Life Time Alarm Clock, and downloads are terrible. The problem is, I think, that 1 - there is no longer a "new free" section (that I can easily find), 2 - search results stop at #250. I know that almost nobody goes down to #250 when searching for someone, but a small trickle of people would, so my app slowly floated to the top.
I have learned a lot from developing my 1st alarm clock app, and spent much more time on my second one. I can say without a doubt, it is a MUCH better app in every aspect. So my question is - how do I get this app to at least to #250 of the search results for "alarm clock" that it can slowly float towards the top on its own?
I'm not sure that I want to risk a ton of advertising money on this - software development is not my primary occupation, and I'm becoming a little skeptical about apps being able to make a profit on being a "good app" alone. I've tried getting my app on a review site, but they all seem like a scam to get money from developers. I've tried $30 worth of advertising on Facebook as a test, and only got about 100 downloads from that (for a free app). All the other advertising seems like even more of a scam.
Does anyone know how a developer can make it into the search rankings without laying down a lot of money? It's not that I'm not willing to spend ANY money, I just don't want to risk A LOT.
Sorry, app visibility is no longer much of a problem - I have been reviewed on five sites between today and yesterday. Looks like i was freaking out over nothing.
Did you actively seek out those reviews? If so, could you recommend some sites?

Post links of those reviews here ? Or just the site names atleast.
I don't believe I have enough posts to put up links yet. You can do a search in Google for "Life Time Alarm Clock" and you will see the reviews.
I was on Droid-Life first, then Android Authority a few hours later - that's when downloads really started picking up. I went from 3-16 downloads per day to 12,000 downloads in a two day period. The next day I got a little over 2,000 downloads, and the next day, a little over 1,000 downloads. I was also on the App Brain "Hot Today" list for a little while, as well as minor features in Android Police and Droid Informer (short reviews along with several other apps). Life Time is also on some sites speaking Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian, which is odd, because I have ZERO localization right now (which I'm working my butt off to fix right now).
I expect my downloads to go down quite a bit further before they start picking back up again. One thing that I have learned from this, is you never know what to expect when you launch an app. This is my second alarm clock app. My first one was SureFire alarm clock, which never really took off too well, and has remained a steady 150-300 downloads per day for about the last year or so. I thought that from all my feedback, I knew what customers would want - I was wrong.
The problem is, SureFire was >90% American customers, while Life Time has been <40% American customers. The app was not designed to be used outside of the U.S., but I don't want to turn those customers away. I've been getting HAMMERED in the ratings for not having localization or 24 hour support - things that no one cared about with SureFire, so I assumed they would not care about in Life Time.
Also, Life Time customers seem to be smarter about Android - there are much more "bare" Android phones, such as the Nexus 4 and 5, and the Moto X. They want more integration with the Android system - Daydreams, setting alarms via Google Now, etc.
I was planning on working hard to implement features for in-app purchases so that I can finally make some money on this app, but I'll be working on pleasing my unexpected customers for the next few weeks.

Blocks Smartwatch

Here is a new smartwatch concept that is just going to Kickstarter.
I think it looks very promising.
The watch currently supports Android and Iphone, but will add Windows Phone in the near future (the orphan sister).
Here is the website http://www.chooseblocks.com
There is also a video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=27&v=BT98FChvoFU
I am pretty excited about this, since every other watch out there tells me what I monitor, this one will be different.
They are working on kinetic charging also, that would be the best. Nothing like getting your smartwatch all set to go, using it for a day or two and then it dies (in the middle of a workout)
Can't wait to get my hands on one of these.
Kickstater Campaign
Here is a link to the Kickstarter campaign. https://www.kickstarter.com/project...orlds-first-modular-smartwatch?ref=nav_search
They met there goal in the first 2 hours.
I think this will be the way of the future. And they are adding Windows Phone support in the next few months.
Can't wait to get my hands on one of these little gems.

I've backed the 4 module edition and plan to add 3 more modules.
Which modules are you planning to get, If any?
The only negative thoughts I have is the screen technology. As for now, they're using TFT

Yeah, I'm hoping for the stretch goal to be reached in a couple of days. It'll give time and money for an AMOLED instead of the current screen technology
What about modules? What do you think?
Stretch goal!
It's here. Our 1st stretch goal is .....(drumroll)..... Gorilla Glass for the Core display! You will be able to get your hands on an (almost) bullet proof display for the Core module that will survive even the toughest of adventures. To make this possible, we need to cross $1 million in funding. Please help us spread the word by sharing the BLOCKS Kickstarter page with your community!
We are considering both IP68 and metal finishes. There is no hardware limitation and there is a mic inside the core. It would mostly depend on what most of our users want and the type of deal we finalize with the telecom companies.
IP68 is important but we have some more exciting updates also.
Also just to let you know - our manuf has confirmed that IP68 is possible for blocks, so technically we could go for it. Just need to consider the cost of production increase that would ensue for IP 68 vs IP 67. So please hold on
This looks very interesting.
In my opinion, it would be nice to have the possibility to install apps directly from play store.
This module shows some promise of that
Programmable Button
Gain instant access to your favourite smartwatch features or other connected devices.
Myself and partner are both watching this project and hoping it actually makes full production and prices drop...
The module system is a great idea and means she can have it set for her purposes as can I mine.... And just upgrade a module as we go along...
Lets hope it's a winner and not a lame duck!!!!
I know, I can't wait to get it on my wrist.
I am on Windows Phone which should be supported by ship date.
Kinetic charging is another big plus for me.
Next year can't come soon enough.
They hit a million this morning!!!!!!!
Check it out https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2106691934/blocks-the-worlds-first-modular-smartwatch/updates

This one is going to be legendary! The next stretch goal is METALLIC FINISH for the Core and Modules! Our manufacturer has confirmed this. We are finalizing the details and we will release all the information when we cross $1,200,000. All our existing backers will be able to upgrade to this premium finish if they like. We would kindly like to ask you to hold on to your questions about this metallic finish until we can announce the final details.
Pre order here https://www.kickstarter.com/project...e-worlds-first-modular-smartwatch/description
Also they now have a referral program for anyone who orders before the campaign is over.
How can you help?
Not only can you help us get to this stretch quicker but you can also earn some free Modules in the process. For every friend you bring in, we’ll give BOTH you and your friend a free Module. To find out more, please click on the following link: http://www.chooseblocks.com/welcome.html?custom-url=wyyG588006J&name=Jory%20Weber
So, if you are thinking about ordering, do so before the campaign is over, 24 days to go.
Then both of us can get an extra module for free
This looks promising. Pitty it will take so long to launch
Will it allow to make/receive calls from the phone without having to take the phone from my pocket to talk?
I know right, I can't wait.
To answer your question yes, you can answer a call on the watch. That will be part of the core module.
There will also be a SIM module, so you can answer calls away from your phone.
The SIM card module does not interest me, since that would be an extra sim card. All i want is the possibility of using the watch has a hands free kit on one of my cars that hasn't got hands free kit.
I've read it's IP67 rating. Wouldn't this allows me to go to swimming pool and swim without risk of damage? After all, the watch will not be always under water, not even would go to below 1m of water.
Regards.
Almost There!!
Blocks Smartwatch is almost through there Kickstarter campaign with amazing results.
They have set several stretch goals and met all but the last one. If just a few more people get on board they will have realized there wildest dreams.
- Metallic Finish is now available!
- Open Design Announced - easily customize the colours and materials of each module.
- Partnership with Tateossian, luxury British jeweler announced for premium shells.
- Partnerships with biggest telecom carriers in UK & US to be announced next week.
- STRETCH GOAL REACHED: Gorilla glass display will be installed for everyone!
- NEW STRETCH GOAL: The screen will be upgraded to AMOLED if we reach $1.5M.

And here it is! Wondering how soon people will start to modify...
Failrure?
@Wind Dancer - There are so many unhappy people, its not looking good, so many questions/emails ignored, would you care to update us?
I received my BLOCKS smartwatch on 16.Feb. It came with Android 5.1 and had an update to Oreo 8.0. Allot of the apps are not functional or not working yet. Battery life with 8.0 is much better than the 5.1 firmware, but I only get ~9 hours battery with Wifi off and minimal notifications. One other said he is getting close to 2 days. Maybe need some more battery discharge/recharge cycles. Watch is considerably larger than the original mockup I saw at CES around 3 years ago. It looks very large on my wrist. Metal strap is not available yet and shipped with rubber strap. Still no word on when the modules will ship. Hopefully I will get my Model 3 quicker than the 3.5 years wait for this watch. Hopefully we will see improvements soon in the watch functionality.

Ticwatch 2 Global Edition

Heads up to those interested.. I think the kickstarter campaign is going to start soon. Looks like it could be pretty decent if the hype is anything to go by.
Hopefully they'll involve communities like this one in their development, it'd certainly help brand awareness!
Edit : In fact they have a pre-launch fb group here - https://m.facebook.com/groups/577584915748399
Edit 2 : Any devs interested in the watch should join, they genuinely seem interested in community participation, so any feedback from you guys would be good.

Congrats guys, hope it's a step above the rest. It is refreshing to see companies interact with the paying public like that, I know pebble did really well with their campaign, but I'm not sure how open they were to suggestion from the community.
Unfortunately (fortunately) I procured a fenix 3 for my birthday recently and it suits me down to the ground, otherwise I'd have definitely grabbed one of these.
Looking forward to the Onyx to add to my collection: seems to offer a lot of possibilities and upgrades for the smart watch communities...wondering if I'm developing a watch addiction...12 steps here I come................

I've received mine - it's easy enough to get Android APKs and Wear APKs on to it, but it lacks a browser and account manager so many apps will crash out. However, many also work perfectly fine, particularly once you modify the DPI.
It's a lovely watch - the best I've owned, although the Gear S running Android is also very functional in a different (ie fully Android) way.
Rooting is problematic for now - most of the usual apps aren't successful at rooting. Has anyone found a successful process?
No problems with the CPU and it charges quickly wirelessly. All in, a lovely watch.
Question - other than the custom OS features, is it worth more than the £99 Gearbest watches? I'm not sure, but it's certainly stylish.
I'd buy it at £130, but I think that's the price point all good smartwatches should be at.

Which there was more NFC (android Pay) support

I am really happy with Android Wear 2.0 people that complain I just do not get.
Watch face has current time (still a watch), mine tells me when of have my next appointment, Heart Rates, Steps, and Weather.
Killer apps ..... it is a WATCH what more do you want or need ?
However the one Killer App that has Zero love is Android Pay and I not only partly understand (I know Americans are behind as far as having POS terminals that support Android Pay) but even in the the USA they are catching up. No more pulling cards out or the wallet, or even your cell out of your pocket..... Just use your watch.
It is the most convenient way to Shop but as far as I can tell unless you have a Huawei Watch 2 or Lg Sport you are out of luck.
Are there more watch that are current are announced that have NFC and does support Android Pay ?

What's strange is that the new Snap Dragon Wear 2100 processor in the new Android Wear smartwatches has NFC built into the chip however many OEM's have decided not to enable it.
