I've been trying to figure out which gallery to use.
So far Quicpic seems to be my favorite.
Which do you use and why?
I use "Photos" since I have all last 4 years photos and videos there.
Unfortunately the Sony camera doesn't have an option to change the default gallery

I did notice that the photos app ( google ) has a setting for a shortcut to appear in the camera app which can be useful

Its usefull. I use it. But still not the same as a fully integrated solution like Google Camera (and I think some other cameras) + Photos.

I use Google Photos. Having all my pics synced to the web makes flashing new ROMs and getting a new phone less of a headache.

I read about QuickPic's new owner but I haven't really notice what has actually changed. I still like the app. What's so bad about it?
I tried piktures but there seem to be fewer options.
I have all of my photos on my SD card organized in folders.
I can't seem to sort ALBUMS by date.
I can't disable "crop thumbnails to square"
I can't do horizontal scroll
I wish I could just use google photos but I have a very complicated process because of two goals that no one can meet (for free).
1. I want to keep a backup copy of all originals on a PC at home
2. I want to keep a copy or cached copy of all photos on my phone so I dont need to use data.
So all photos I take goto an "unsorted" folder on my phone that goes to Google Drive. I then pick that up on my PC and filter/edit/sort it into folders. Then Picasa uploads them as originals because its the only one that will maintain folders. Then I compress them all on google so its free. At the same time, Folder Sync, syncs them back to my phone into folders and deletes them from unsorted folder.
The problem is Google seems too stupid to realize the photos on my phone are the same as the ones online so it shows everything twice.
I'm using Piktures which is by far the best android gallery app I've used on any of my Sony or Samsung devices. I have my photos organised into different folders eg. work/projects, family etc. Piktures is very user friendly when working with folders.

You can use 'alternative' QuickPic. Someone on xda modified it in a way that it won't try to update via PlayStore. It's version 4.5.2 from original developer.

I wasn't a fan of the Quickpic interface so quickly uninstalled it. I then tried Piktures and found the layout very pleasing. The reason I was looking for an alternative to the Sony gallery is because the Sony gallery only allowed sorting by date modified which is no good when copying a batch of photos from another machine as they all have the same date modified. Pictures allows sorting of photos or folders by name, size, date or date modified, accending or decending or you can manually sort.

I have a ptt app (tikl) that require phone # to be programmed. but on cm 6.1 it states that the number is unavailable. is there a way i could program that info manually
I did Menu>Settings>Call Settings scroll all the way downZ>Additional Settings>My Phone Number. I put my number in. Then uninstalled and reinstalled TiKL for good measure lol and it popped up with a "Is ###-###-#### your number?" (my number in place of the #'s of course) and I was able to get it working.

thankyou very much worked like a charm just did not uninstall
Since RC2 (i skipped RC1 because the wifi calling issue) many video streams stopped working.....i.e. skyfire (or any other browser) is unable to play any of the 'secrets of the dead on pbs', such as http://video.pbs.org/video/1631639851/ i can hear the audio, but no video is shown...just black.....stock had no problem with these....
i have installed, uninstalled and reinstalled every combination of flash 10.1 (both hulu fixed version and reg) both direct from market and adb, etc...
i am hoping there is a simple solution to avoid wipe, etc....Everything seems great with my rc2, but this flash issue...
i have not had issues with the flash but i did wipe my phone before installing any cm6

Of course I wiped prior to installing RC2....perhaps half of video's that did play do not now...
Main issue I've got with RC2 is that Vignette isn't working right with it. The pictures come out fine, but its when you're viewing the camera trying to take a picture that's the issue - the screen is all cropped up to half the screen size.
Also, there's no option to enable the the camera shutter sound.

Email the Vignette developers about the view problem and they'll send you a test build that fixes it. I'm using this Vignette build on CM RC2 and the viewfinder is perfectly center and undistorted.

would someone with a G2 test if RC2 will properly play http://video.pbs.org/video/1631639851/ ...No browser (even skyfire 3.0) can show me the video (although skyfire seems to allows the audio through).....thanks
Aight guys i found the issue for Vignette! To resolve the issue with how the view is cropped while taking a picture, please do this:
Settings - then enable "show full viewfinder" and voila! Issue resolved!

That wasn't available on the previous build, which is why it was such a problem. Glad the update fixes this.
That's how I fixed my viewfinder as well. ^^
Just so you all know I started off with a freshly flashed DI18 .tar.md5 through Odin and a clean microSD card. Without ANY modification I went straight to the stock recovery and used the update.zip to bring me up to EB13. From there I logged in and installed all my apps from the Market. I didn't use any backup programs like TitaniumBackup and didn't restore my data.img from 2.1.
Here are actual bugs that I've confirmed:
Keyboard
* Stock Android keyboard word suggestions still don't work. Install the Gingerbread keyboard off the Market.
Camera
* Laggy Camera & Sports mode FC. Flash a ROM that includes this fix such as the Genocide kernel.
* HD video recording: the stock microSD card is SLOW write speeds causing the camcorder to crash when it can't write to the card. Solution: Don't use 720p.
* Since Android 2.2 and below doesn't natively support multiple cameras, many apps handle the front camera differently causing some programs to rotate the image.
OS Bugs
* Rotation Lag. Fix is in this thread.
* Status bar brightness is MUCH LESS SENSITIVE. Slide your finger slowly WITHOUT pulling the notification bar down.
* Audio Out fixed in this thread.
* Compass is 180 degrees in the wrong direction or erratic. Refer to this post.
Audio
* External speaker is sometimes stuck constantly playing white noise (DSP is running and using necessary battery power). Not sure if related to next issue.
* Annoying white noise is playing through the phone. Using Bluetooth A2DP and normal headphone jack I don't hear it. But I hear it a lot through the media dock.
Touchwiz Browser
* Uses tons of memory 60MB+
* Extremely unstable and slow I can't even believe they released this.
Market
* Many apps are missing from the Market. Protected apps are now showing up.
Modem/Connectivity
* Slow 3G speeds (sometimes 4G). Problem comes and goes. My fix: Airplane mode, use astro to kill all apps, exit airplane mode and wait for 3G, then airplane mode, kill all apps, exit airplane mode. Test with Speedtest.
I'll update with problems I find in this thread that I can confirm personally.
I tested out what would happen if I used the data.img from 2.1 and discovered that any program that synced with contacts would force close (Twitter and Facebook) and my calendars didn't sync.
Other than that everything worked fine for the 20 minutes I played with it.
This means that if you updated from 2.1 without clearing data, expect problems.
Camcorder issues
Basically its laggy out the ass...moving the camcorder around blurs everything...never had that with di18.
On a side note though, editing text fields with swype now is MUCH easier.
And 4g connects WAY faster

The stock Samsung keyboard is actually pretty nice too. I don't remember it being this good, then again, I can't say I ever really used it.

I just tried it out, are you in a room full of light contrasts? Dark to light? lol. It's a the autofocus doing it's job but at an extremely slow pace.

Well I'm having issues with my calendars syncing and Facebook / Twitter keep Force Closing. But I think it's a problem with me restoring my /data partition from 2.1 just to see if it works.

Well, I use Dolphin mini on my Epic, and it's pretty snappy. No checkerboarding whatsoever, especially on sites that have checkerboarding with the stock browser.

Thanx.Dolphin Mini is nice and would be my number one but Dolphin HD is better for now because it automatically hides the tab/progress bar giving you more screen estate,while on Mini its always there-it takes away screen room.
They said on other phones going to 2.2 that if you uninstall and reinstall apps they'll function again. Just like some app updates.

Check the market i updated mine - it was a manual update and in the notes said it included notifications
So far EB13 has been excellent!

Today we got 4.1.2 leak, named N7100XXDLJ2. Post your opinion about this leak, what new features you have found, bugs and etc.
My first impressions: Stable, smooth rom, using as daily. Restored all apps, rooted and didnt got any FC.
You can flash cf root, cwm recovery- they are working fine.
New features i have found:
Brightness slider can be disabled
At camera settings you can ” Use the volume key as”
New camera mod “in low light” Improved quality of pictures which are taken in bad light enviroment
Notification bar can be edited
Ink efects with spen on lockscreen
Group cast, google earth apps installed by default
You can disable multiview
Improved swyping with samsung keyboard, something like android 4.2 keyboard swyping
Browser smoother, no more refreshes of bookmarks (still sometimes)
Browser feature- swyping, left or right sideline, up and down makes zoom in/zoom out
Improved stock music player widget while scrolling through the songs list. You wont see "loading" when scrolling up or down quickly like it was on 4.1.1

that issue is only for 4.2 android, so we will have Christmas (yes there is December at calendar)
yes pretty fast and almost perfect release. No minor bugs, only with that keyboard

yes for me is working with stock browser, but it has big issue, also had on 4.1.1 When you surf the net a lot especially at sites with a lot of flash elements, browser freezes and closes :/

All works fine, 3D games (NBA 2k12 & Need for speed Most Wanted and Virtua tennis tested).
Video playing is great, no failure even with 1080p mkv's :good:
Music playing, good but sound is a little crappy even with good headphones, need a lot of work with equalizer. I really don't know why doesn't Samsung provide good sound playing capability and equalizer on a € 700 phone.
Stability, so far it's been great, but it needs a couple more days to be sure. :good:
Overal impression - Very Good
If Samsung makes TW Launcher capable of grid size change I don't think i'll need change a thing on this phone.

If you open the flash application, go to local storage and "clear local storage", set allow local storage to "never" (with 2 gigs of ram you wont need it)
This should solve your browser crashing issues.

All works fine, 3D games (NBA 2k12 & Need for speed Most Wanted and Virtua tennis tested).
Video playing is great, no failure even with 1080p mkv's :good:
Music playing, good but sound is a little crappy even with good headphones, need a lot of work with equalizer. I really don't know why doesn't Samsung provide good sound playing capability and equalizer on a € 700 phone.
Stability, so far it's been great, but it needs a couple more days to be sure. :good:
Overal impression - Very Good
If Samsung makes TW Launcher capable of grid size change I don't think i'll need change a thing on this phone.

If you open the flash application, go to local storage and "clear local storage", set allow local storage to "never" (with 2 gigs of ram you wont need it)

also have tried like that, didnt help, something wrong with adobe flash maybe. Also sometimes my chrome on pc freezes of flash. Heard that it can be because of limited flash caches or smt like that :/

Sorry but nothing else occurs to me. I have mine set up like that and it never crashed.
even went http://www.ebizmba.com/articles/best-flash-sites"]here[/URL] and opened all websites, one after the other and all went fine.

hmmmm, maybe also it is related to website flash objects. Because at some sites i have never got that issue, on other sites i get it randomly. Btw can you open http://browsermark.rightware.com/ it gives me freezes always.

On browsermark the browser just closes. It does not force close with error message, it just closes itself at 3/4 of the loading process.

as we have bought sony z1 mainly for 20.7 mp camera and water resistance with amazing build quality. but later most of ppol who have lil shaky hands realized that they are not able to take good pix specially during night , low light times. and because of this are upset as we have invested so much and not getting the results for what we paid.
sony z1 camera is really amazing and really good piece of hardware but they have not been able to give the phone the right software, that's where 3rd party apps comes in.
try out NUBIA CAMERA v1.0.26 and above its basically of ZTE , but you will get really good night shots comparing to stock camera, and even better color saturation, ( LENOVO CAMERA is also a very good app but unfortunately it doesn't suits and works with sony z1 camera drivers.)
NUBIA CAMERA additional plus point is that in auto mode it take's 20.7 mp shots, in manual mode there are better focus settings resulting in less grainy image and better night and low light shots. so basically this app supports and uses full potential of the internal hardware camera capability and does not limits the mega pixel issue as most of other apps are limited with and just delivers the better platform for sony z1 camera module.
and please don't ask the download link you can do that in Google and its an free app.
please post end user reviews after trying this app and if any better solution and try to make our camera better then ever

Wow Nubia take way better low light pictures a lot of noise is reduced compared with the stock camera! I have to play more with this app to see how much can do. Thanks! (tried with version 1.0.26 of the app)

How many things can a camera link to? All of those things are plausible. None are malicious.

Although I get similar results with stock camera too...(8mpx auto)
(out of focus but that's not important)

I don't see no difference in quality after some landscape pictures comparing to stock and this ... I don't know if I am supposed to see a difference though?

No camera app needs permission for phone calls, text messages, and email. I write apps, and to share a picture, no permissions are needed. Just use the default android intent chooser (the menu you get when you click the share icon that lets you pick gmail, google plus, email, messaging ...etc)

No, some are expected since it can probably set the wallpaper, and upload pictures, but I agree...too many unless the dev explains why.

FC on xperia z1 c6903
I am loving all the additional features, customizations and awesome screen but experiencing one big downfall. My family all have iPhones and it was so easy to send videos and multiple pictures of kids when I had iphone. Now it seems I am the odd man out and mine are getting compressed to 1mb from AT&T. Family is getting small chopped up cloudy videos and I have to send multiple see rate text messages to send a group of pictures over.
Can anyone recommend a solution?
Why when everyone has an iPhone with AT&T service u can send multiple large videos and photos with no issue but throw an android in the mix n now there are imitations. Is imessage that much superior?
Is my only solution to have everyone install a 3rd party application like hangouts? Not even sure if whatsapp does same as hangouts. Large video messages and picture messages. I think with hangouts u can also video call?
I love android but I would hate to have to go back to iPhone just for the communication limitation that I am facing.

IPhone uses iMessage for videos and pictures when texting other iPhone users. Similar to how hangouts works on android devices. I personally use imgur to share pictures, and just plain YouTube for videos. Imgur keeps images at full quality, and I typically like to keep my videos backed up with my account anyways so no matter what you can send people the full quality image/video. I did this even when I had iPhone, I just always preferred it that way.
Thats the problem when you go Apple, you get locked in and cant get out. If you cant convince all your family to ditch i message and use Hangouts/viber/telegram etc as the default messaging app than i would go back to iphone. You dont know anyone else with android phones? how do you message them?
I read some thing of uoading to google pictures, can u also upload videos and share a link to family.
Imessage was just so quick n sending a video of the moment to family. I have friends who have android so texting is fine but pictures and videos is what is the issue and all my family is on iPhone.

You can do it on many ways. One of them is to open Google Photos and create sharing link and send it to your family or open stock Gallery app and share via "simple share". This will upload any file to samsung server, generate, a link and send it to any contact you wish through sms.

Hmmm, I'm looking for the quickest way.
I selected a picture in gallery then hit the share icon, scrolled three pages and looked at icons across bottom as well and do not see simple share option. I am running 6.01 stock marshmellow.

Open contacts. Click your name at the top and turn on profile sharing.

I clicked on my profile. I see edit or more on top right and only option is to share contact details. I don't see anything about profile sharing. I am on the AT&T network. Maybe simple sharing is disabled on AT&T network ???
Any other options for a quick easy way to share pictures and videos with family members on the phone when on the go?

and then on the bottom choose "registered information". There you can turn on simple sharing.
The best solution I think is to use Google photos or Google drive to generate sharing link though.

WoW that section is not present on my stock AT&T device. Are u with AT&T?
U r saying it's easier to use Google Drive or Photos. I will have to venture into testing that out.
It just generates a link when I upload and request to share then I can copy that link into a group message? The other users do not need any software installed? It will just open a browser for them to view? Do they have option to download if they want ?

Yep i have that simple sharing also but im on TMo. Mine looks red instead of blue. Could be my theme. Lol. Also i did notice hkw videos look all staticky maybe on my end from msfmg app. I sent my pops a video of my daughter, i wonder what the quality is once he sees it. I too ditched apple and didnt have that problem only when i got msgs from wifey as shes always used android.

I just send them off to YouTube, and smaller videos auto upload to Google photos.
