FAQs (Please, For The Love of God, Read Before Posting Bug Reports) - Exodus ROM Discussion

We support Exodus not the apps or modules you install on it.
We realize that most of the posts generated in any ROM community, regardless of how well the ROM is done, are going to be bug reports. With that in mind please follow the guidelines laid out below to ensure that your post isn't dismissed out of hand. Nothing pisses the devs off more than having to continuously ask for logs, steps to replicate, device info, etc. Help us help you. If it's important enough for you to make a bug report then it damn well better be important enough to do it correctly...
1) Submitting a bug: 90% of bug reports lack the vital information required for a fix.
- Device? Use the call sign, JFLTE is your GS4, etc
- What nightly are you on?
- Clean or Dirty flash?
- Custom kernel?
- Xposed installed??
- When did it start?
- Brief description
- Steps to replicate
- Log? Post it on http://hastebin.com or a similar NO LOGIN NEEDED, plain text website. We will NOT sign up for anything to read your log!
2) Logcat, umm what's that?
http://hastebin.com/kuyiyuzuzi.vhd
If you can root your phone, then you can grab a high quality log. Short and sweet logs are better than long ones. If you search the log and do not see the words fatal or error then you missed the problem.
This ROM contains support for ContentGuard as of July 24th 2015. Applications flagged as malware, unsafe, or exploiting the market system will be automatically disabled and removed. For more information about this feature please visit http://github.com/ContentGuard

[Q] Modifying ROM .zip's

So I've found myself re-installing the Syndicate ROM several times in the last few days. Been fooling with things a lot, getting edumacated. My question is, I would like to include the Syndicate theme add-on (with battery %) in the ROM to begin with. In other words, I don't want to have to flash the stock Syndicate ROM, and then have to flash the theme separately.
I unzipped both the stock ROM and the theme and it seems to me all I would have to do for this to work is just write over the applicable stock ROM files with the ones from the add-on theme, re-zip the files, put on SD card, etc.
Would this work?
Also, if I wanted to remove say the ES File Explorer from the stock ROM and maybe replace the YouTube app with 1.6.19 and then re-zip, etc. Would that work as well?
this is reposted from jairomeo in nexus forums but this helped get me started:
[THEME] The Ultimate Android Themeing Guide - Updated 4/26
Since we know information for creating themes is spread out all over the place and sometimes hard to follow and understand, I have started compiling a guide using the information spread throughout XDA and other forums. Hopefully this can become a Sticky
I've sent this out to a few new themers and such and they have found the parts that are complete very helpful.
Initially I wanted to wait until it was complete before posting it anywhere, but I've hit a wall on being able to put my thoughts together. I am kind of busy and stressed out with work, therefore I am putting up this way users can review and other themers and maybe start compiling some of the missing information. I also hope for non themers to give feedback or post questions and ideas can be added and maybe get my creative juices flowing again.
The guide is a collaboration of information from many themers/users. I am making sure to provide credit for all individuals writings. I am writing it in word, but posted it in Google Docs to all can view.
If you are going to link to this, please link back to this thread and not the document, this way we can keep the conversation in one spot and work together as a community, to have a document that isn't tool and utility based, but one that teaches people how to edit themselves, and teach with potential of finding more things we can control.
I will update the copy on Google Docs until it's completion.

The document in not complete so PLEASE don't distribute yet or put in other places. Wait until it's finished. I don't want copies floating around everywhere, if I see that, I will pull the PDF

******ROM POSTING******

The following are reasonable formats that are suggested when posting a new ROM. We expect your ROM post to look somewhat professional and easy to understand.
1. Requirements (bootloader version, radio version etc)
2. State that it's from an official manufacturer or source base (stock ROM or AOSP-like source).
3. Thread shows a clear overview of changes made, in a way that users can see what has changed.
4. Explicit installation instructions.
5. ROMs need to identify what kernel they are using. If 100% stock then they must state that.
6. If custom kernel they must provide a link to the kernel on XDA (if available) or a link to the kernel source. This is required by GPL. Stock (untouched) kernels can link to the manufacturers source (if available).
7. At least 2-4 images (screen-shots) 1 of which must be of system/device info. Do not use photo hosts thay deluge users with ads and popups when they select the image. You can either attach the images, or use a hosting service such as photo-bucket for example.
8. Links to downloads. A link to a direct download is preferred. Linking to external websites home pages are not allowed, it must be linked to the Downloads page. Also use of "ad-driven" (adfly for example) or "commercial" sites are mostly not allowed. Registration on some sites "may" be allowed, but is subject to XDA Moderation approval.
9. Credits for sources used. Very important.
10. Keep your "asking for donations to a limit. You already have a "Donate" button.
Simply posting a link to some download site "here it is, download it", is not allowed.
Any questions, please feel free to contact any moderator.
Thank You

How About A Beta Thread

Since so many installing betas from community shared links etc. It would be nice to gather all in one place including discussion and sharing of noted bugs etc. I know most people running official betas wont bother to send their logs so how could they improve the firmwares for our pleasure? If you want this i will try to make it happen ? if you post links etc. Please remember to specify origin as its sometimes bugs related to networks etc.
